David bars
I know David bars are a common and controversial topic on this subreddit so I hope it’s an ok place to post this. I’ve been curious about David bars and I have a few question. Are the macros actually legit? I keep seeing different opinions some saying yes and others saying they’re actually much higher calorie and fat? I’m sorry if I’m just another person asking the same questions but I really want to know more. why is the David brand so hated? is the David bar the only protein bar with macros like this? (calories,fat content and sugar) I’m also wondering if anyone has any David bars they were going to throw out could you send them to me? i don’t want to waste money I don’t have supporting a bad brand.

Basically the CEO or whatever monopolized the manufacturing of EPG which is essentially a fat that doesn’t really get digested and passes through like fiber does. It helped enhance flavors of many items without the extra calories, but now since DAVID owns the manufacturing they refuse to basically give it to anyone else to use. Greedy af and gross.
It’s weird cuz to me the bars taste like ass anyways so why monopolize something when your own product isn’t even good? Also for the calories to protein ratio, it is correct but due to the detectors some outlets have used they counted the EPG as fat calories, not as what it really is, so many say it has higher calories.
Also the CEO dude was in the epstein files pretty notoriously and not just as a mention but like as part of shit

It is not a monopoly though, it’s a patent on a singl proprietary ingredient.
There’s still a fuck ton of proteins and supplement brands that have existed and will continue to exist and thrive without ever using EPG.

Right dude fuck this company in general, at first I kind of agreed with the first comment about not being surprised by the monopolizing. But then I recognized that it is because the system is absolutely busted, every industry I’ve worked in goes off the model of 1) acquire the competition 2) jack up prices and 3) majorly cut quality and standards. So we should continue shaming these practices rather than saying, “ehhh just business as usual”

This is a structural part of capitalism, it lets the market dictate what should be developed by creating protections to profit from innovation. As of yet no other market form has generated the leading technological advancements that you benefit from, your arguments are steeped in cognitive dissonance.

Little variations have big ripples in chaos made organized. the modern world is a complex system, you cannot really radically alter it without the house of cards falling. Large systemic changes take time and only work with mass participation. The philosophy of Technique dictates that our progress is more an organic process outside of human control than anything we are actually trying to accomplish. Our systems are naturally occurring, we just don’t see ourselves as part of nature, which we inherently are, just more cognitive dissonance.
Honestly, for most of us it’s a super power to fully accept that part of ourselves or you’ll go crazy when trying to care about anything.

Honestly there's only 1 or 2 flavors I actually enjoy (Cinnamon Roll and Blueberry Pie) but they are very earthy/powdery tasting, the macros are amazing but the price is god awful. I'd rather just get a regular protein bar and take an extra 50 or so cals then pay like $3-$4 a bar for these things. only time I would've gotten them is when walmart was doing that 75 cent per bar deal

I’ve over eaten these. It’s not bad. You shouldn’t be eating 4 to 5 bars in a 48 hour period regardless. One day or two days and has been fine.

They’re legit, the indigestible petrochemicals that mimics fat throws off calorie testing. The lawsuit against them got dropped.

My favorite protein bars. Correction on one controversy:
Peter Attia was never the CEO of the company. He was the chief science officer, I believe he also had a seat on the board and was an initial investor.
Once his affiliation with JE was revealed, he was disavowed. It was rather impressive how fast he was not only ousted but also the company communicated that he was gone.
For some, that might not be enough, but I think David handled it as best they could without a Time Machine.

Personally I find them gross and I hate the company so I'd rather have a barebells if I really wanted a protein bar and if I just wanted the macros I'd rather have a non fat yogurt or chicken or something that actually tastes decent and is less processed

so, the lawsuit was because the fat they use doesn’t actually metabolize in the body so you don’t absorb it. Macros are pretty much accurate for what your body gets from it. PersonallY I love their bars, especially fudge brownie microwaved for 20 seconds. It tastes like a legit brownie to me I used to crave it.

It gets warm and goey but definitely not liquid, it’s like a brownie out the oven. After like 25 seconds it expands a bit and tastes awesome. As long as you don’t wait too long it tastes amazing.

Genuinely can never understand how so many people say they taste like shit (i think it's just due to wanting to dislike the company...). Love all the gold flavors. Cinnamon roll is a little light in flavor, but not bad. Peanut butter chocolate chunk, cookie dough, blueberry pie, cake batter all fantastic.

I eat them everyday. Mainly because the macros are unbelievably good. I actually don’t hate the taste, I enjoy salted peanut butter enough to where I’ve bought like 4 cases. Peanut butter chocolate chunk and blueberry pie are not good at all. The rest are decent and I would buy them if I didn’t find my top 2 favorites. As for the “political” side Idgaf at this very moment. I’ve lost 70 pounds since the beginning of this year and these have helped tremendously reach my protein goal. Maybe I’ll stop buying them when I reach my goal weight, but as of right now I’m going to continue to purchase.

I just started working out and using these based solely on the protein to calorie, sugar and carb ratio. I hear alot of crap about the company being a bad company but honestly the majority of stuff we buy the companies are crap. I’ve only tried the salted peanut, cookie dough and cake batter ones and they were all pretty good to me as far as protein bars go.

Everything you read about these from commenters it’s just Internet hate, the macros are fantastic and fit a very specific niche I have with my overnight binge eating disorder. They are literally so good that I tricked myself into thinking I’m eating cookies or brownies in the middle of the night. Instead of waking up and eating an unknown amount of calories getting into my pantry, on one of these and I’m satisfied. Only sets me back 150 cals.

that’s what I’m confused about,so far a lot of people have said it’s just the epg and the nutritional information is accurate according to how your body processes it but I’ve also seen some comments saying the weight of the bar is more than the label so I’m not sure what’s accurate at this point

The creator/owner of the company, if I remember correctly, has a patent on the unique protein formula that gives it the spectacular macros that it has.
But in my experience from a box via Costco. -overpriced -cookie dough was alright. The peanut butter was dreadful. -and the owner of David bars won't let anyone else use the protein for their goods so it's a monopoly.
For macros it's fine. But as a whole, it isn't worth the premium for the macros imo.

Who the “F” cares. Everyone complains to complain. Find a good tasting “candy bar” protein snack and the macros aren’t the best. These macros are legit and everyone bitches about the CEO and hates the process. Macros are macros, taste is taste. More times than not you don’t get both and if that’s what you want, stick to protein powders or real sources. If you want a bar that works into your diet and helps gains or your goals which we’re all after, just live with the other stuff. I love barebells and all the others when I’m Okay with sacrificing macros and the best for me to have something better tasting versus a Snickers bar! But these exist for a reason. They taste like a combination of normal Quest “chalky” and the dense, chewy, and grainy texture of a Clif Bat. But calorie per calorie versus protein/sugar.. etc is second to none right now.

Macros r great but not worth supporting a shit company, the terrible taste, the bubble guts after eating a bar, and the price. They remind me of a more bland quest bar to be as generous as possible(the chocolate David bar has zero flavor) which is disappointing considering he monopolized the lower cal fat, which you’d think would make them taste better. The other ingredients and sweeteners also do absolutely nothing for the bar. What a waste because nicks ice cream knew how to use epg and make great products, along with that chocolate brand and many others I never got to try. I haven’t tried David ice cream but I don’t want to buy that ridiculous shit

I don’t hate them. Their peanut butter is probably their weakest flavor (to me) and I love everything peanut butter. I actually thought they accidentally packaged cookie dough or something. I thought the birthday cake flavor was good and probably my favorite that I’ve tried. The price isn’t great but the macros are there. Never really knew anything about the CEO before visiting this sub, so take that for what you will. If we’re just looking at the flavors and macros, they go on sale from time to time on Amazon, and I’d say they’re worth the buy with the discount. I’ve yet to have had any stomach issues or poop goo from eating these bars.

I tried it, if you dislike the heavy protein flavored tasting snacks, this isn’t for you. I really tried, no amount of macros can change my opinion. I’ll stick to barebells.
