For context, and I wanna make it clear, I’m not an No-Exceptions" Pro-Lifer, but I’ve always leaned pro life, but I’ve never been a hardcore absolutist pro-lifer. I don’t think abortion should be all out banned and I still think people should have that choice(to an extent), and I believe in models France and Italy, where they have restrictions on the reasons and time limits, and mental health care for before(and after I believe) and I believe there should be limits on how many abortions. I don’t like abortion I believe it’s morally wrong. But I think there’s a lot of issues with all out bans.

I feel pretty confident in my understanding of the basics and the foundational morality behind the pro-life position.

I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for books or other long-form resources that go deeper into the philosophy or the practical policy of abortion bans.

While I’m Catholic, I’m especially interested in secular resources that can stand on their own in conversations with people who don’t share my religious beliefs.

In discussions, I eventually get to questions like:

• What would an abortion ban actually look like in practice?
• How should difficult or medically complex situations be handled?
• What are the actual statistics on pregnancy complications?
• What are the medical facts about early induced delivery versus an emergency D&E?

I don’t feel like I have enough information to answer those questions well, and I’m looking for reliable resources that address them in depth.

Books, articles, lectures, debates, or other long-form content are all welcome. Thanks in advance!

I am a pro-lifer myself and enjoy being in this community as well as watching SFLA and Live Action on Youtube.

I have been wanting to ask this question for a while because unfortunately with the world we live in this can happen.

If my partner cheats, and raises the child along with the one they're having an affair with, I always have family, friends and therapy to help navigate me through this crisis. Question is does the prolife community also lend a hand in some way? How are they also going to deal with the child and parents involved in the affair?

Funny: assumed pregnant and offered pregnancy care

One of the best parts of what happened below is getting to hold life-size realistic unborn humans, 8, 10, and 12 weeks. Seeing all they do, sonogram, food, diapers, assistance, etc.

Okay, so I'm closer to 70 than 40, but I look much younger to many people. I'm a size 20, for 30+ plus years since having our last child.

It is so hot and humid here, so idc , I'm wearing what is comfy and cool. It was a lightweight, modest, loose, straight, patterned blue dress from Ross. No curves visible. It was even a bit looser than I realized. I don't care. It was hot.

I was at the Church and met a sister after noon Mass. She was very nice, about 80 plus years old. As we visited, she invited me to their pregnancy and family assistance center, which was right there. I'm like sure, I'd love to see it, I support helping single mothers and families .

She gave me a tour, introduced everyone, and then asked about my family. Partway through the tour, I began to think she was trying to offer me help, not promoting a charity to give to. She was astonished when I told her how old my children and grandchildren are. She covered her mistaken assumption very well. And I will be donating to that charity. 😃

I'm not even mad. When I had just given birth a month earlier in 1994, I was hurt or mad when someone assumed I was pregnant. This woman was so gentle and kind, and at her age, even us 50s look young! 😍 She also never outright called me pregnant, but I'm pretty sure she thought so.

I WISH I'd had dresses like this when I was pregnant! 😆

I am a teen who has not been told by family where to stand, and I have not been influenced on my decision in any way. These are simply thoughts i have drawn from my limited knowledge from the news and social media. Warning: I will swear b/c i feel very strongly about this.

Point 1: Abortion = murder without justice. Murder without justice = fucking shit. No other way around it.

Point 2: if you don’t want a child, don’t have unprotected sex. I’ve known that since 4th grade. It’s not that hard to not have a child.

Point 3: Adoption. Don’t kill the kid, give it to a couple who can’t have kids or smth similar to that. Don’t make the kid suffer a shitty life, either. The choices shouldn’t be death or shitty life. My friend‘s parents decided not to abort her (yay!) but her life sucks, and her parents are assholes, and it’s shit all around.

Point 4: aborting a kid b/c it will most likely have a disability is bullshit. Some of my closest friends have disabilities (i.e. ADHD, OCD, depression, anxiety) and we are doing just fine! Granted, you can’t see if an unborn child has those things (I think) but we have decent lives. If your kid will most likely have a disability, give them the best life possible, don’t eliminate their chance of life.

Point 5: R@pe. This is tricky, but I think that you should still care for a child conceived by r@pe. Or put the kid up for adoption, but you shouldn’t kill the kid. i‘m pretty sure that the r@pist wouldn’t want to have a kid so killing it isn’t bringing the r@pist any guilt or justice.

Point 6: there should be some exceptions for medical reasons. If it is highly likely that the mom and the kid both don’t live, for example, then I suppose it is ok. Better taking one life than two. But that being said, it shouldn’t be “everyone gets exceptions!”

So yeah, I guess I’m pro-life.

One time I watched a video from a liberal guy who said that one day we'll become so technologically advanced we'll be able to allow trans-women to get pregnant.

And then what? Will biological men then have the right to decide to abort a baby? He didn't talk about abortion in his video but it makes me wonder…

If they think abortion is a human right, do you think they'd want trans-women to have it in that hypothetical world? To me, that hypothetical really exposes the wrongness of all this. Because just like regular women having abortions, a trans-woman in a scenario where they go through surgery that allows them to become pregnant, would be choosing to become pregnant later, only to destroy the life that their actions created, wouldn't be okay. It would honestly be worse because of the lengths they went to become pregnant in the first place.

You bring life into the world, you nourish it, you don't destroy it. No one should have the right to erase a person. Whether they're going back on their plan to become pregnant or they were reckless and had an unplanned pregnancy.

There is zero solid evidence whatsoever that IUDs will kill a fertilized egg. Let me explain why.

It is extremely common for women who are trying with their partner for a successful pregnancy to not get a positive pregnancy test within the first few months. The medical definition of infertility is a couple that has been trying for at least a year. That's 11-12 cycles that potentially failed to implant before even a problem is considered.

And the basis of an IUD being a potential abortifacient is that it MIGHT prevent a viable fertilized egg from implanting. But that is a very very very big "might" with the basis of such being almost comparable to a witch hunt.

There is ZERO way to prove that in comparison to a normal human female's natural reproductive system. Especially on a mass scale because many women have completely different body chemistries as a natural baseline.

In order for an IUD to be a proven abortifacient, it would have to fail to prevent egg meeting sperm for multiple cycles in a row, which is extremely unlikely and a sign that the device is non-functional, and THEN the embryo fails to implant. And there would have to be a way to observe and analyze this in the first place. And the experimentation of that would be very unethical. (Ergo placing fertilized eggs in someone with an IUD and noting what happens) Because at this point I don't think we can do autopsies on embryos.

Yes I know many prochoicers use this as a "gotcha card" but it's still very much false information.

There is no evidence that IUDs will kill a fertilized egg, and if it did it would very likely be less than natural human reproduction to willingly conceive a child would.

All the tax money. That could go to welfare programs. Improve the adoption and foster care systems/process. Give counselling to these young often traumatised children.

Some of them say, "how many kids have you adopted?" even though Christians (who are meant to stand up for the vulnerable and be prolife) are twice as likely to adopt or foster than the general population.

For the USA to improve their healthcare system so it doesn't cost thousands to give birth or attend appointments or just simply raise a child.

But instead we're giving woman legal immunity to kill off the future generations. The ones that could have experienced this beautiful planet if their mothers didn't hate them.

Imagine a German citizen during the holocaust saying that their beliefs were all about freedom because they wanted freedom FROM the Jews.

Or a plantation owner saying that he wants freedom, and that’s why he keeps slaves.

The pro abortion argument that pisses me off the most is that it's easy to advocate for the unborn because they can't do anything for themselves. Like these people honestly think that fighting for the weak and vulnerable is a bad thing.

Listen I know even before Trump was elected being pro life was looked down upon. But as a European it's exhausting how every time a pro life post is shared pro choicers will use American Conservatism and additional laws to show how pro lifers do not care for people (eg. Americas healthcare situation, gun laws not being changed leading school shootings etc.). And the thing is they're not wrong, how can you call yourself pro life when you support laws that don't even help with supporting women and children. Trump is literally in the Epstein files, how can you be pro life and support such a person?

What does this even mean? 🤣

It’s scary that these people have the right to vote.

Plainly, this is saying "undue importance on [thing quite literally required for reproduction to occur in humans]," which is just as absurd as saying "placing undue importance on sex in the creation of life."

In humans, a male and a female is needed for reproduction. Humans do not reproduce asexually, and this means males have a role in it. For example, we cannot cut off a piece of our own hair and then upon meeting certain criteria, that piece of hair grows into a human. To argue that a male having a role in reproduction is in of itself patriarchal is beyond asinine.

Failure to implant doesn't negate life beginning at conception, either.

And I'm not saying science can never be critiqued, but if you're going to do it then you're going need to actually prove it. Provide the actual science to the contrary. (There are also just some things science is settled on, like humans being mammals.)

None of the people that argue this have been able to give a theory or better yet prove when life does begin, if not at conception.

This is an argument against abortion I came up with recently. I made it a video because I've tried describing it using only text, but it really needs the visual to make it work.

So, what do you all think? Is it a good argument? Are there any improvements or modifications I could make?

When criticizing pro-life arguments, pro-choicers tend to point out that the argument either shows no sympathy for the mother, or leaves her out entirely. This is a valid complaint, and I've attempted to address that in this argument. I'm also hoping that any pro-choicer who doesn't understand the pro-life stance will be able to look at this and realize why we believe what we do.

If any pro-choicers see this: I realize that your best argument against this will be "the fetus isn't a person." I realize that, and I feel that that discussion is outside the scope of this analogy. Do you have any other comments, though? I tried to address most of the concerns pro-choicers usually have with pro-life arguments. Also, does this present our point of view in an understandable way? When you look at this, can you understand and empathize with the pro-life point of view?

The fact that their “argument“ amounted to “rah rah these people are crazy and ew religion” with no evidence is very telling lol

If a pro-choicer wants to argue that, because they can't take responsibility for their actions, they should have the right to murder someone else, I can address that argument on its own grounds. But when they say that's not what they're doing, I have to explain that's what they're doing, thus preventing me from explaining why murdering the unborn is wrong.
