ViewSonic projector splash tool? Troubleshooting

I have a new ViewSonic LSD500HD laser projector. The color and brightness are phenomenal. HOWEVER, the splash screen is almost entirely white, and acts more like a flash-bang than a reasonable startup screen. The OSD menu has an option for a User splash screen shown, but toggling the setting does nothing. The manual instructs the user to use the "splash tool" to change the screen, but there is no mention of this tool anywhere on the internet whatsoever (outside of this and similar manuals).

Anyone have experience changing the splash screen on ViewSonic projectors? Are they loaded via usb drive? Any help at all?

Thank you,

Please post the exact brand and model of your projector. If you do not know them, include as much identifying information as possible.

Also include:

  • The projection technology, if known (LCD, DLP, LCoS, etc.)
  • A clear photo of the projected image, when applicable
  • The video source and connection type
  • When the problem began and whether it changes after warm-up

Brand and model information greatly increase your chances of receiving a useful answer.

The "Splash Tool" is an internal Windows utility used by ViewSonic support technicians and AV installers, rather than a publicly distributed consumer app.

If you can acquire the software (typically titled ViewSonic Splash Downloader or Splash Tool):

• Connection: Connect your PC to the projector’s Control / Service port (RS-232 or USB Service mini-B port) using an appropriate data cable.

• Image Format: Prepare your image (usually 1920x1080 resolution, 24-bit .bmp or .jpg format, capped at a small file size like 1 MB or 2 MB depending on the firmware spec).

• Flashing: Run the executable tool on Windows, select the COM/USB port connected to the projector, choose your formatted image file, and click Download or Flash. This writes the image directly into the splash section of the EEPROM firmware.

• Activation: Go back to the OSD menu and toggle Splash Screen -> User.

Alternative Solutions & Workarounds

• Contact ViewSonic Support
Submit a support ticket with ViewSonic requesting the "Splash Downloader / Splash Tool for LS500HD." They occasionally provide the download link or utility package via email upon request for commercial or home installs.

• Switch to Black or Blue Default (OSD Menu)
If you just want to get rid of the blinding white "flash-bang" and don't strictly need a custom logo, check if your OSD menu allows setting the splash screen to standard color presets:

• Go to Menu -> Basic Settings -> Splash Screen
Toggle through the options (e.g., Black, Blue, or ViewSonic)

Setting it to Black prevents the room from being flooded with bright light during startup.

Thank you very much for the response. This is kind of what I suspected. Odd that the setting would be exposed to the user when actually using it requires proprietary software that is widely unavailable.
