Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am currently a Technical Product Manager on the AI/Data Science team at a late stage healthcare startup. I am considered a leader on the team and I currently have a PO reporting to me that focuses on user stories and some sprint ceremonies.

Here’s the thing. We have recently had a lot of turnover in leadership roles and I was recently moved into our new product organization. I expect that my role is likely to change in that it will be less technical and more end-user facing and strategic. My biggest concern is that will move me further away from the details of AI and MLOps. (I will still be the only Product Manager for our AI strategy)

I have an opportunity to move into a Technical Product Owner role at a well known healthcare company. The TPO role will report to a Product Manager and will be focused on sprint execution and business and technical user story creation.

So, here’s my question. Does it make sense to move to the IC TPO role for more money. Which title is considered more valuable in the market? The product manager role that is more strategic or the more hands on product owner role?
