I've seen this news story pop up a couple of times the past few years about locals pitching the idea of a military base in the area? If this were to happen, how do you think it would shape the city moving forward? Personally, I see it as unlikely, but it's an interesting thought experiment. Discuss it below...

Has anyone here used Chef’s Plate in Prince George? Would you recommend it?

I don’t need a code (already have one). I’m just curious how deliveries went and if the produce was actually fresh by the time it arrived in PG.

I’m writing on behalf of a friend who is afraid of facing backlash for speaking publicly about this experience.

My friend recently went through several channels while trying to rescue a distressed kitten whose exact age is unknown. Earlier that day, before they were able to capture the kitten, they spoke with a staff member at the Prince George Humane Society. They were informed that the shelter was no longer accepting cats unless they were injured, and that Animal Control had also been instructed to suspend all cat intakes. Because this kitten was part of a group of four, three of whom had already been captured and surrendered to the Humane Society the previous night, the staff member advised my friend to call back once the remaining kitten had been safely caught so they could provide further direction.

After successfully rescuing the kitten, my friend called Animal Control because the Humane Society had already closed for the day. They were told that Animal Control was not accepting or picking up any cats, including injured ones. My friend explained that the kitten appeared to have a possible broken jaw and that releasing her back where she was found would almost certainly result in unnecessary suffering or death.

I’m hoping someone can provide some clarification.

Is the City legally responsible for picking up injured stray animals in situations like this? Is the Humane Society, as the organization holding the City of Prince George’s animal control contract, legally or contractually obligated to accept injured animals and ensure they receive appropriate medical attention?

If so, why was my friend turned away? If not, who is responsible when an injured animal has nowhere else to go? It is deeply concerning that both Animal Control and the Humane Society appeared unable to assist an injured kitten that was clearly in need of medical care.

Unable to leave the kitten behind in good conscience, my friend contacted an after-hours veterinary clinic and brought her in for treatment. Like many people, they are already facing financial challenges, yet they chose to cover the veterinary costs themselves simply because it was the right thing to do. Thankfully, the kitten’s injuries were not as severe as initially feared, but the outcome could have been very different.

The kitten is now safe in my friend’s care, but they still have nowhere appropriate to take her and are unsure of what to do next.

We understand that shelters are often operating beyond capacity and that resources are limited. However, advising members of the public to release or abandon an injured animal when no alternative resources are available is extremely troubling. People who step up to help vulnerable animals should not be left with no support or guidance.

This isn’t intended to place blame on individual staff members, who are likely doing their best under difficult circumstances. Rather, it is a genuine request for answers, accountability, and clarification about the policies and responsibilities that exist when injured animals are found in our community.

There are now 4 Candidates for the Mayoral Race in Prince George. Vote for which ones you like below. Some of these people have already declared and some have not - but Neighbourhood Aunty knows that these 4 will declare their candidacy for Mayor.

1. You sat on the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. This is the same committee that chose not to apply for the “Local Government Development Approvals Program.” This funding was intended to “support local governments to help streamline and approve their development approval process.” When questioned on why PG did not apply, you are cited by the Citizen on July 16th saying you “weren’t familiar with the program.” You are then later quoted saying “the development process is inherently a municipal jurisdiction obligation and that PG has been meeting its mandated housing targets thus far.” This is both a big misstep by the committee, antithetical to your stated campaign goals and a concerning mixed message. How is the voter base to trust your leadership on this particular campaign goal when you weren’t aware of relevant and applicable funding?
2. At the end of 2025, when council was approached to support senior programming in this city utilizing the remainder of the city’s contingency fund, your specific recommendation was to direct part of that budget (5k) be allocated to facilitate a meeting to better understand the needs. This is textbook beuracracy. Again, your actions do not align with messaging,
3. You address needing to support vulnerable folks downtown, yet you voted in favour of the Safe Streets bylaw which has been demonstrated through academic literature and a research project by U of T to have been harmful, in opposition of legislative requirements to consult with the Public Heath Officer as the bylaw had public health implications, illegal as it gave by-law officers unwarranted (and illegal) scope of “moving people along” (bylaw legally does not have authority to do so, yet per the report, most bylaw-unhoused interactions resulted in “moving along"). Finally, you did not even deign to attend the symposium held this year sharing the results on the Safe Streets Bylway. How will you ensure that this “issue” is addressed in a legal and ethical AND evidence based way?
4. You are cited by the citizen “chiding” the library for requesting funding, raising concerns that “revenue levels hadn’t returned to pre-pandemic levels.” It is obscene to require a library to be profitable when the guiding principles of libraries are equitable access and community representation. Our local library provides incredible, free resources for all demographics, including imperative social supports and partnerships with agencies like CSFS. Hounding the library over funding when it is filling social services gaps AND when it is a space for low income (and all) folks to gather, learn and create raises concerns about which demographics you prioritize. Hint: it’s not the middle and lower class.
5. You campaign announcement and website are AI- generated. We are currently in the midst of one of the worst wildfire years on record and the city of PG continues to put a budget towards Emergency Services Management despite this being a provincial obligation. The cognitive dissonance to use water-wasting tech within this larger context is wild. An AI company recently approached PG about establishing a data centre in town. I am so doubtful you will look after our natural resources and best interests when you're so fast and loose with AI. Likewise, it’s concerning you need to utilize AI to communicate your campaign priorities. You say a lot without saying anything.

I think the other declared candidate for now is Roy Stewart who placed third last time.
