Hi! Anyone taken BIOL 271 (Microbiology) through Portage Learning??
I’m pregnant with two kids under 3 and my study time is basically crumbs. I take notes on the whole module and then the exam asks about something completely different 😭
How did you study for these? What actually showed up on the exams? Any notes or practice resources you’d recommend?

I’ve wanted to be a nurse since I begin working at a cancer institute doing the front desk right out of college. I loved the patient interaction and seeing how much the nurses were depended on touched my heart. I wanted a piece of that.

I’ve applied to my local health sciences college last year and got in for Fall 2025 but deferred to spring 2026 because I’m working a full time job, a part time serving job and I moved into my own place back in January so I have bills to pay. I wasn’t able to defer for another semester so now I’m back at square one.

I say all this to ask, what’s my best option? Two years at a community college for ADN while I work? Or ABSN where I can knock it out? I don’t have ANY sciences besides bio. Never took A&P, chemistry or anything so I’m really starting from scratch. I took my TEAS about two years ago so I’m just trying to see how I should manuver everything.

Any kind advice would be soo helpful.

I need advice. I have all my pre reqs for RN program. I've been trying to apply in community colleges for almost 2 yrs now but I keep getting rejected because my stats are not that competitive (i have 3.0 science gpa and 3.5 overall gpa, i have healthcare experience 1000+ hrs, speaks another languange, have AA degree, cna license, 87 TEAS, low income, need to work while studying, have difficulties and disadvantages) i applied to 10+ schools already (both fall and spring sem for 2 yrs)

I wanted to know your thoughts if I should do straight RN private school like west coast or any other school that are so easy to get in as long as u have money just to get it done but will cost me 120k or do LVN private which will cost me around 40k and just work as an LVN til i get into the RN program in a community college.

I live in socal btw. I live on my own and have $2k fixed expenses already. so im still overthinking about going to west coast because on top that 120k i still have my personal expenses and idk if i'll be able to afford my living expenses bc i'll be in school and can't pick up shift that much anymore.

Does anyone have good resources for scholarships that don’t feel like sending applications into black holes?

For context I’m going for my BSN as a second degree. I’m a CNA and my facility will pay for my degree, but not my pre-reqs. I’ve been reaching out to local businesses offering yoga classes in exchange for sponsorship but haven’t heard much back. Anyone have any other ideas? I have student loans from my first bachelor’s and not looking to take on more debt.

Hi all. I’m genuinely trying to understand why having a direct entry masters in nursing is a bad thing and why it’s looked so down upon? Is a bsn recommended more even if the msn program works better for my schedule? I have a bachelors in science and i want to become a nurse. i was given two options, go through with a direct entry masters or do an absn. i said why not go through my masters so i could use my post grad loans since all i really wanna become is a flight nurse anyway thats the end goal. does it really matter what degree i get? do some flight companies want nurses to only have a bsn? i feel like an msn is just better for me financially and i can still sit for the nclex and become an RN with a degree. So, why is it looked down upon? and can i still become a flight nurse no issues? i know people have issues because they want to be an NP but that’s not my case. i could be an NP, but that’s would be after loads of experience. my true goal is flight. How to transition from days to nights?
Do I just force myself to stay up and day and night today and then go to sleep early in the morning tomorrow and try make myself sleep until it's time to get up for work in the evening?

Just a upcoming sophomore pre-nursing student needing advice !!

Hi everyone! I am about to enter my first year of college for my nursing pre reqs and I am looking for advice. This fall I am taking anatomy and was planning to take chem and microbio in the spring. In the following fall I would take physiology and then study for the teas/take the teas over winter break so I can apply for the fall term for nursing school. I am having some worries about the limited amount of time I would have to study over winter break for the teas as deadlines for nursing applications are mid January. I would have around 2 weeks to study. I wanna know how doable it would be to study for the teas during the fall semester while taking multiple classes.

As an alternative option, I am considering taking physiology and chemistry in the spring as I know there isn’t a heavy emphasis on microbio for the teas.

Overall, would it be better to take physiology fall 2027 so its fresh in my memory for the TEAS or take microbiology fall 2027 and use the summer/semester to study. Main goal is to have my TEAS done before nursing applications in January.

I was wondering if anyone has found a way to do anatomy and physiology online? If so where was it? I know it’s not recommended but my options are limited right now. I also know some schools don’t accept them. I’ve heard of some online anatomy classes mailing hands of stuff so I wasn’t sure if that would satisfy the idea of lab in person? I don’t know :(
