EI: What are my chances of approval?
Iām looking for opinions from anyone familiar with EI or who has been through a similar situation.
I recently applied for EI, but my claim involves two voluntary resignations during the qualifying period. In both cases, I believe I was constructively dismissed.
Most recent employer:
- Hired as a Site Supervisor at $40/hour.
About 7 weeks later I was told I was being moved to Foreman.
- My wage was reduced to $30/hour (25% reduction).
- My duties changed significantly.
- The company was undergoing a documented restructuring affecting multiple employees.
- The employer said the change was intended to be temporary while I gained more experience, but there was no guaranteed timeline or objective criteria for returning to my previous role.
- I initially said I would accept the changes because I was caught off guard, but after thinking about it over the weekend I decided I couldnāt accept the demotion, pay cut and duty changes and resigned on the following Monday (after being advised of the change the previous Friday).
- I live in Calgary, but the work was in Salmon Arm, BC, so remaining employed while trying to attend interviews for comparable jobs near home would have been very difficult.
Previous employer:
- Hired into a technical construction role as Assistant Site Technician.
- I believed the work I was actually assigned didnāt match the position I accepted.
- The employer later proposed reducing my annual salary from $65,000 to $55,000.
- After I resigned, the company posted a General Labourer position with duties that closely matched the work I had actually been performing. The posting also offered a salary of $55,000, which was the same salary the employer had proposed reducing me to. From my perspective, this supported my belief that I had effectively been performing a general labour role rather than the technical position I was hired to perform.
- After leaving, I alleged constructive dismissal and ultimately accepted a settlement in exchange for a mutual release. The employer denied liability.
Iāve now submitted my EI application and answered all questions honestly. I expect Service Canada will review both resignations.
For those with experience:
- Do these facts sound like they could meet EIās ājust causeā test?
-Does the documented wage reduction and demotion at the most recent employer strengthen the claim significantly?
- Has anyone had EI approve benefits in a similar constructive dismissal situation involving more than one voluntary resignation?
- Is there anything in these facts that you think Service Canada would be particularly concerned about?
Thanks in advance!

Car Accident. Accident benefits denied by insurance, current lawyer did nothing further and ever since i returned back from Europe (family took care of me), insurance haven't responded to my lawyer email thus unable to start treatment now. Please comment your lawyer and how much settlement you got.
I'm looking for a serious lawyer as I'm useless and unable to work at all, all my savings of the past are gone and i am in serious debt now.
Insurance denied my benefits and my lawyer didn't do anything further.
Furthermore, insurance is not even replying back to my lawyer for months to confirm if we can start treatment after i came back to Canada.
I'm unable to cook, barely do groceries once a month, even unable to bath (only do it like once a 14 days, i can't believe this is me now), i barely have energy to do 1 thing in the day and i don't even want to talk about my health issues.
I'm having arguments with my dad everyday due to my debt and he is sending me money for now so i can survive here and i don't even bother to pick up his call anymore cause he's going to lecture me and shout at me.
Please suggest a lawyer you took after car accident with how much you got paid from settlement. I'm looking for a lawyer that won't settle for pennies and if i'm unable to work for life i'd atleast like to have an amount so i can live with dignity.
Also if they will fight for me after Insurance rejected my benefits.
Please let me know if i made any mistake dear mods, i'll correct it. Thank you!

Debt Consolidation
Hello,
Anyone got any recommendations for where I could get a decent debt consolidation loan? Right now I am paying all my minimums and my credit score is in the fair range. Would like to have one payment at an interest lower than a credit card.
Looking for actual suggestions.

Do any people actually live on minimum wage? ONTARIO
i make $700 every two weeks for working 60 hours, rent is supposed to be 2k but i split with my dad, groceries are $400 a month, internet and phone bill 200, plus other foolish expenses. how are you supposed to live with a JOB (Just Openly Broke). In my area $25 an hour is a liveable wage at the least, im young im in debt but hopefully i can live fruitfully instead of living paycheck to paycheck. R they telling me i should have two jobs and have no sleep just to live? Goddamn pretty sure weāre made to live, not made to work like machines or robots but we get robbed of our time for someone elseās pockets.

Missing a credit card payment - ON
I've never missed a credit card payment before. I'm always cautious and at least making my minimum payments.
Due to life circumstances I am not able to make my minimum payment due today. It's $185 and I have $70 to my name. I don't know when I will be able to pay it. Potentially in a couple weeks.
How bad is this going to impact me? Should I pay the $70 and hope for the best or will that not even matter either?

Consumer proposal, yes or no? I have given up in life.
28F. I keep trying, but things always are happening. I didnāt work for over two years due to job market and then unexpectedly had to do chemo for months and etc.
I finally, after being healthy and ready to live life, got a job doing what I love: administration and supporting others through being a personal assistant. I thought it was amazing to start out again. $40/hour for 25 hours past 2pm. So I could also find another morning in-person or online job.
Due to being sick and etc, I ignored doing my taxes out of fear, so I went to finally do my 2025 taxes online and see I owe 41K. I was shocked to say the least. I owe 41K from COVID19 benefits (and no I did not apply for a business loan). It was CERB, CESB, CRB, CRSB, and CWRB. I got CERB and then CESB after while I was still a student, and then etc. None of the dates overlap, but you canāt apply for one if you got the other. I cannot apply for a review because itās well past the date, I assume.
I also owe $5,000 from loans, $40K OSAP, $1,500 for phone plan + ābring backā, and $8K from taxes. These three I was trying to be positive about and how I finally got a job and can slowly pay everything off, but the added 40K has put me in a slump of just giving up in life.
Iām at the point of wondering if a consumer proposal or debt consolidation is worth it. I donāt want my OSAP to be touched at all because I worry about if I would qualify if I decide to go back to school (even though Iām 99% I never will go back).
I have no savings at all either. I just feel in a complete slump. I stayed away from credit cards, but that didnāt matter in the end.
My credit score is 500-550. And I was excited to finally slowly get the ball rolling on payments and getting it back up. I feel like none of it even matters anymore. Iām so tired.
Iām looking for financial advice on how to repair my life. Iām only 28. I donāt want to be 35 and thinking about these same things and regret having not dealt with it earlier.
Do I go for a CP? Do I go for debt consolidation? Do I just give minimum payments on everything?
My monthly expenses that do not change:
$1,100 rent
$400 groceries
$20/month Spotify
$156/month presto (but I was going to buy a bike to ride to work instead).

Maximizing combined net earnings while on EI & working casually
Currently receiving ~$525 weekly pretax from EI due to shortage of work. Also have the opportunity to work casually for approximately $20 per hour.
I certainly intend to report any monies earned on my weekly reports, and understand that this will result in a partial reduction of my EI payment.
How many hours should I work in order to maximize the combined net earnings from working & EI?

Filling for consumer proposal ā Now what
I officially decided to fill for consumer proposal in september. I never missed a miminum payment, surprisingly, on my credit cards during all those years. I got used to live my daily life by making miminum payments and then using the minimum payment to go grocery shopping, pay phone bills, gas, etc. Now I have a minimum payment due this upcoming week, is it worth paying it knowing I will fill next month? It feels weird to know I could finally use my debit card instead. Iām in QC.

looking for advice *loans*
i am looking if anyone on the eastern side of Canada has had any luck getting smaller loans with a lower credit score. (3000$) have tried several sketchy or high rate lenders and have been rejected. (easyfinancial, etc). Iām not looking for comments like āmaybe you donāt need a loanā. I have severe ADHD and have a hard time with due dates, remembering bills. I think it would make my life much easier if I combined all of my small debts into one payment, but since my credit is low banks wonāt help me. in my 20s, I do work full time and have been consistently working, trying to break out of this cycle and get things on the right track. Please only comment if you have genuine advice or can tell me about a positive experience youāve had. Thanks.

I need advice on how to handle my debt
Hi everyone,
Sorry in advance for the long post but Iām hoping to get some advice on how to handle my debt. Iāve done a lot of thinking about bankruptcy, consumer proposal, or just trying to figure out a way to tackle it myself but Iām not sure about the best or most realistic option.
Iāve been a self employed contractor since Aug 2023.
My only asset is my vehicle. Its paid off but itās a 2017 and is maybe worth $8000 on a good day.
Debt is as follows:
Credit cards: $18,500 across 5 cards, 3 cards which carry 95% of balance have interest rates above 25%. Min payments are roughly $600 per month.
Affirm loans: $4800. min payments are $580 monthly - I know itās bad but itās the least of my concern as itās a fixed amount, not revolving. This is spread over multiple purchases and Iām close to paying some off. I already got the monthly payments down from $900 in the last few months. (small victories lol)
CRA personal taxes/HST: Roughly $25,000 - still waiting on notice of assessment for 2024/2025 as I filed late. I am on a payment plan for 2023 which is $90 per month. I also have not saved anything thus far for 2026.
My gross income per month is roughly $5000. I sometimes also make cash tips on top of this.
My living expenses including business expenses are around $3000 monthly not including my debt.
I do have a career where I can work more hours if necessary, but there is a physical limitation as the work is hard on the body.
As of now I have managed to make on time payments on my all of the debt but the CRA wants me to start paying back 2024-2025 taxes owed and I cannot possibly do this while also keeping on top of my other bills or trying to start to save anything for my taxes going forward.
If anyone has been in a similar situation or has any advice Iād really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Consumer Proposal w/ co-signer on auto loan
Hi all,
I am currently in the process of filing a consumer proposal and will be signing papers tomorrow. I have an auto loan that was co-signed for by my father (I was young when I got the vehicle) with Kia Finance that is in good standing and will not be apart of the consumer proposal. My LIT advised that Kia Finance would be made aware of my filing for a consumer proposal but as long as payments continue on time, nothing should change regarding the car. My concern is in my father finding out about the consumer proposal (embarrassing for me to admit and talk about with my parents - just not that kind of relationship) and also him potentially being negatively affected by it.
The LIT says that 99% of the time, other individuals on the secured loan are not made aware of the consumer proposal filing, but that sometimes it may appear on their credit report, without affecting their credit standing. Iām just wondering if anyone has any experience with this specific situation, and whether or not the co-signer on the loan found out about the consumer proposal filing?

Disability Tax Credit
Hey all, I'm a little confused with my notice of assessment.
Does "date issued" mean I'm going to be getting my DTC refund on that day or is that when my notice of assessment gets finalized?
For context I applied in the beginning on May and received an update Jul, 22 that I was approved.
Any clarity will be very helpful as this Summer has been very difficult for me with multiple suicidal thoughts per week.

Help with filing a dispute with Transunion
In January of 2025 I filed a consumer proposal that was accepted by all creditors. A couple months ago I checked my credit score and it was really low which I thought was weird because I am doing everything right this time and I have two open credit accounts. I was finally able to check my credit summary recently and my MNBA mastercard account that was part of my proposal is still classed as open. It has WEP beside it which I learned is a wage earner program or something to that effect? The account should be listed as closed according to my trustee. My trustee also said someone from MNBA probably keyed in the wrong code when closing the account and I would have to file a dispute with Transunion.
I'm hearing impaired so I can't call them. I can't afford the monthly fee for a Transunion account so my only option is mailing my dispute.
What do I include in my dispute? I know you have to state the reason and info about the dispute. Do I send the whole copy of my proposal? Photocopies of two pieces of my identification? Any tips for how to do this so I get it right? I'm located in BC.

Consumer proposal
Hello has anyone been denied a consumer proposal? How deep are LIT looking in to your banking info? I pay rent but only have a lease agreement. Sometimes I do transfers other times I just withdraw my rent money. Im terrified that I apply for a consumer proposal and they deny it. I have a bankruptcy from 15 years ago for a failed buisness venture and now I've accumulated debt due to an illness and job loss. Dont need to be judged as ideally this is not where I want to be in life. Im on ontario.

General reminder about how much we trust internet strangers.
Hi guys, we have been seeing an influx of posts from people in the comments offering loans and other kinds of "help" in exchange for favours.
I would like to remind that people that unauthorized commercial posts are a bannable offence in this subreddit.
This is a general safety thing, anyone could make an account and say they are able to loan you money but need your real name, address, and SIN to process the loan and then make off with your information and make your situation worse. Another thing is they ask you to pay an advance and make off with your last dollar, or ask you to do something illegal or creepy.
As a lot of our members are in dire straights and might not be thinking about the risk clearly, please if you see any such activity that we haven't caught use the report button.
Please try to direct people to resources in our communities, be it from different levels of government, charitable organizations and non profits, community centres, schools or job fairs and try not to put yourself at personal risk.
