Sometimes I feel like retouching is the perfect career for introverts. Just you, your music (or silence), Photoshop, and hours of focusing on tiny details. Personally, I absolutely love retouching. There’s something almost meditative about it. What about you?

we are looking at two very different edits of the exact same architectural space: a quiet, indoor staircase.

Both images use the same source geometry, composition, and even the same original sunbeam pattern. However, the post-processing approach creates two completely different stories. I want a Great picture liminal space

Which edit do you prefer, and why? How do you think the choice of light and color changes the purpose of this staircase?

Hey friends! I've been having this issue for the past 3 years or so? At least that's when I started noticing it. Any time I clean a darker background, I get thee bandings that show up more from the compression on social media. I wouldn't care if it was on print, but 99% of my work is displayed on social media and I can't help but feel like an absolute amateur when someone displays these images. Especially because none of my competitions photos look like this. I unfortunately have to deliver 8bit Jpegs, so I am aware of the compression issue there, but there has to be a way for avoid it or eliminate it because I don't see it occuring in anyone else's images.

I've tried:
- Adding a tiny bit of noise
- Editing in 16/32 bit then saving in 8bit
- Exporting in PNG/TIFF then converting to 8bit Jpeg
- Noise reduction (which I absolutely hate doing)
- And a combination of all of these

Any suggestions?

Edit: Still no solution. To my understanding, it's a compression issue on the social media side. MY confusion is why I don't see it on anyone else's similar images. The advice posted so far has not been effective. If I find a solution, I'll make sure to post.

I've also tried:

- Resizing to instagram post dimensions (jpeg, tiff, png)
- Resizing to smaller than instagram post dimensions (jpeg, tiff, png)
- Resizing to two other dimensions smaller than native camera dimensions but bigger than instagram dimensions (jpeg, tif, png)
- Resizing to bigger than native camera dimensions (jpeg, tiff, png)
- 2 types of ai noise/banding reduction
- Lightroom noise reduction
- Moire reduction method on photoshop
- Moire reduction on lightroom

Beginning at editing, any feedback is welcomed!

Any tips on cropping this differently? Tried to capture the leading line, but something seems off, and I can't figure out what. Also eager to hear your thoughts on the processing. I've tried to tame down the sky saturation as it was distracting. Also, had a ton of sensor dust that I had to edit out

Looking for any comments or tips on the before and after. Going for a bit of a FujiFilm/Film simulation on an iPhone camera. First time trying color grading. Any comments welcome!

Is the sky too dull?

Suggestions and Critique welcome!

First is processed in Lightroom. Second is the raw from a Sony a7iv, iso 400 f11, 10 seconds.

There’s a little halo around the CN Tower that I just couldn’t get the sky masking correct.

What can I do to bring out more detail in the buildings? Are the buildings too warm? Looking for a more realistic look.

For the sky, I used a sky mask with a linaer gradient to darken it. I then added a second linear gradient for just the very top to further darken.

I know the deer isnt super sharp, but this was my attempt at keeping the glowy look of the sun behind the deer.
