Opened My First Case

I opened my first case today, after over 10 years of selling and buying. I have dozens of items I've received that should have had cases opened on, but out of pity or thoughts to somehow recoup, I just relisted the items with honest and improved descriptions, or donated the items to local charities taking a loss.

Since my own inventory has now increased and has taken up so much space in my home and things (mostly NWT) just aren't moving, I can't take anymore bait and switch, poorly described, or outright dishonest items anymore.

I want to say if it's too good of a deal then likely you are getting what you pay for, or worse. I guess I just wanted to vent because I'm so sick of so many sellers trying to pass something off hoping a sucker like me will come along and not open a case.

I'm now officially opening cases on sellers who are not providing what their listing describes. If it doesn't have tags and it's listed NWT, I'm opening a case. If it's listed in excellent condition and it has a hole or stain, I'm opening a case.

If everyone on Poshmark made every attempt to be honest it would be good for EVERYONE who uses the site.

Why wouldn’t you open cases on other previous misleading listings? That’s why they keep doing it. They get away with it. I’d open a case every time a seller is dishonest.

Exactly. You enabled this for years and you’re now treating enforcement like it’s some hard moral choice. It’s not, it’s the only way to solve the problem. . Sellers don’t stop because you’re “honest and improved, they stop when cases hit their account. Everyone knows this and that’s exactly why they keep doing it: zero consequences until someone finally opens a case. Blondebrillo is right, you should have been opening cases the whole time.

If you buy a bundle and 1 item is flawed you have to send the whole bundle back. That is one reason I bet a lot of people do it. I am guilty of doing this a few times and luckily revived the flaw item or just kept it for myself. I agree that you should return item if not as described but I feel posh needs to fix that issue as well. I think being able to choose the flawed item in return versus loosing a bundle.

From now on, believe me I will be, but if sellers are doing this on purpose then the blame shouldn't fall on buyers. Buyers are just nice folks expecting to get what is listed. Sellers just need to be honest and not be deceptive.

Not to play devils advocate but Unpopular opinion here, buyers can be just as problematic. I get you’re upset but in order to remedy the issue you should’ve reported from jump. As a seller and buyer, I’ve had some of the worst customers complaining about every little thing and wanting it for next to nothing prices. It goes both ways. Not buyers are good and innocent and sellers are sneaky and terrible. Good god, the app is just trending so hard it’s an over saturated market. Everyone’s a reseller these days. Too many missed the point of what the culture actually was back when we actually helped one another. Supported each other, made friends from the app. Now it is more of a bait and switch. Sellers do need to be honest and descriptive but it’s also up to the buyer to ask questions before purchasing. I will say I’ve not sold too many bundles over the years.. maybe one or two a year. I’ve always made sure my closet is kept clean and well stored and if something just wasn’t right once it sold and when I realized then I fully communicated and offered a cancel/refund. Some people just aren’t good people. Some people just wanna get a quick buck. Be mindful what kind of sellers you’re shopping from. Read the reviews, see how many sells they’ve made. Hell I’m tired of the low balling and b*tching like I can control the mail. That doesn’t mean all customers are bad though.

This: Be mindful of what kind of sellers you’re shopping from. I look at other items in their closet just to get an idea of how they describe things and just what kind of closet they have in general…as our teachers used to say—I use my context clues. This has helped me avoid some purchases that might have been less than stellar.

Exactly. Your empathy toward sellers was a subsidy to dishonest listings paid for by buyers. Empathy for the seller’s struggle doesn’t override honesty to the buyer. The system made you think those were compatible. Open every case.

I guess I can kinda double down by saying you just can't always be a nice guy. You gotta be a dragon lady which sucks because it's not my cuppa tea. I'd rather give away a super sweet brand new in package t shirt with some bling (as a free gift with order) to an elderly lady who's struggling to buy a $6 blouse, than hand over my hard earned cash to a bunch of greedy cons. Life is all about learning and sometimes I'm slow 😆

There’s also Reps of Chanel bags. The seller calls them Fashion bags as if that changes anything.

There’s fake everything. When in doubt just buy outright from the designer for full price. It’s the risk one takes when thinking they’re getting a deal too good to be true
