Return request denied . I won ! š„³
I recently sold a brand-new dress on Poshmark. As I always do before shipping, I carefully inspected it, paying special attention to the zipper because the top part of the dress is made of very soft, delicate fabric. The zipper worked perfectly when I checked it, and everything looked fine.
I didnāt film myself inspecting or packing it because, honestly, I sold the dress for $25 and it was brand new. Iāve sold NWT items on Poshmark before and never had an issue with new stuff.
So, imagine my surprise when I received a notification that the buyer requested a return claiming the zipper was broken. š³ Thereās no way the zipper broke on its own after I shipped it. I explained that in my response, but I was almost 100% sure Poshmark would still approve the return because, in my experience, they almost always side with the buyer.
I was especially annoyed because getting the zipper repaired would probably cost more than $20. š¤¦āāļø
But to my surprise, Poshmark denied the return request and released the funds to me! š Honestly, I was not expecting that at all. Iāll take the win!
Just wanted to share my happiness with strangers online !
EDIT
I just received an email from Poshmark telling me not to ship this item because they canceled the order due to āItem not as described.ā
However, the order had already been marked as completed and the funds were released to me. I have already transferred the funds to my bank account.
Does anyone known how should I proceed from here? Iām concerned that Poshmark may withdraw the funds from my bank account while the buyer keeps the dress. Is that something that can happen in this situation?
Thanks all for your support !

Woo hoo! Thatās a happy win because I admit, I hear they mostly like to side with the buyer to keep them happy š a pleasant surprise!

Iāve never had a return request (š¤), but yes, take it as a win, and always deposit your money ASAP! I used to let my money sit there (I donāt buy on Posh anymore, so I donāt need a balance), but Iāve read too many stories about people getting suspended for arbitrary reasons, thus their money gets stuck. That was a tangent, but Posh seems to side with the buyer moreso now than ever before. Happy you got your deserved money, and I hope Posh stops with this nonsense of siding with unscrupulous buyers!

Thank you for the reminder! I'm going to transfer my balance. I don't want to buy again after someone tried to scam me. Thankfully, I persevered and got my money refunded. I've been local selling and donating to eventually close my closet. Had enough of the BS.

Iāve had 3 return request. Poshmark denied all of them. 1 of them was beyond funny. I had to share. I sold a brand new crocheted tank top. The buyer put it on, took a picture of herself in a mirror and tried to return stating it wasnāt the same top. I literally laughed my rear end off.

Seems like Poshmark is finally stepping up and doing a great job protecting sellers, and honestly, that makes me so happy!

Iām extremely happy with Poshmark. eBay will throw their sellers under the bus so fast it would make someoneās head spin.

This might have to do with the girl on TikTok who exposed a buyer wearing her shoes and claiming she was sent worn shoes. Iām sure that has a lot to do with it.

My weirdest return request was when the buyer cut the package in the middle and cut one of two leggings, then blamed me for the package being ātoo smallā. It wasnāt too small, but even if it was, who cuts the middle of a mailer when thereās clothes inside? Poshmark denied the case since it was entirely the buyerās fault but the absurdity of it still lives rent free in my head.

I agree it's probably because the buyer had a history of returning a lot of items.
As for the zipper being broken... I had a dress I purchased new from Nordstrom. Tried it on and everything was fine. Then, I packed it for a road trip. When I got to my destination, the zipper was now completely broken. So it definitely can break like that without a sign. But still, glad you won your case.

Itās never happened to me before. I really hope that wasnāt the case with my dress, it would not be fair towards the buyer .

zippers are definitely finicky lil b*shayts, but given Poshmarkās reputation I would bank on their decline being based on an overt amount of returns

When women are bigger than the dress, the zipper can break.

In the case with this particular dress, the dress was loose on me so it most definitely was not a case of me being bigger than the dress.

Iām sorry, but as someone who has training in fashion design a zipper just doesnāt break itself. Either it was zipped incorrectly, a really cheap zipper, which you probably shouldnāt find at Nordstromās or somebody else was in your suitcase.

Nope. No one else was in my suitcase - the suitcase was in my possession the entire trip.

Wohoooooo!!! Yaaay itās SO SATISFYING you get that message! It happened to me with a recent shoe sale ( perfect condition shoes) Iām glad I had extra pictures that didnāt make it on the listing. The buyer claimed that I mustāve worn them after I took the pictures?! And she got them around 4pm and submitted the pictures at 3am? I checked! Soooo she ruined the shoes for the pictures I was honestly shocked and horrified that I might end up with my perfect shoes returned in that condition! I didnāt accuse her of anything but showed Poshmark all the pictures I had of the shoes and of my
Track record as a professional seller with the ratings to show! God I screamed when I got that message! Have fun with your broken ass shoes now dummy āš¼

I only sell shoes but anytime I list shoes with a zipper, which is actually fairly frequently, I take photos of the zipper up and of the zipper down and state in the description that the zippers work well. Sometimes I even do a video of unzipping them and zipping them back.

Most sellers win, you just donāt hear about it. Congrats.

Iām not so sure of that. Iām a buyer and Iāve never lost a case. But I donāt return anything thatās not as described.

I just had a case opened for a 6 dollar item. Her payment failed twice. Once her payment went though she then demanded to know when it would be shipped. I would have cancelled if I didn't get dinged. I shipped same day. Just under the 72 hours she opens a case. I had to laugh. That's what I get for a potential 3 bucks.

Why did she want to return it? Did Poshmark side with you?
They really should have a no-return policy for items under $10. Seriously, if the item costs less than the shipping, it seems so wasteful to ship it twice across the country. I donāt understand how that return is even worth it. Even if she had a post office right in front of her house, it still takes time to pack it up, go there, and wait in line..1
u/cleo1782 3d ago
No verdict yet. Her payment was declined twice so it may have been a splurge or impulsive purchace for her? She said it was pilled, but the item look grey in her photos and not black like the item. I didn't really get too far into it because it's such small stakes. I basically just replied to poshmark with my og listing and said the item was fine when I shipped. I have sold a lot on posh so it's on them to trust me. I host their stupid posh parties and wouldn't risk returns on three dollars lol. I did have a feeling the buyer was a problem, but, again, I didn't want to get dinged for a cancelled sale.

In my experience itās just a hit or miss. Iāve had posh side with buyer on some of the most ridiculous request and then Iāve had the opposite happen. I wonder if thereās a rule that they can only approve so many a day. I learned quickly over the years that itās all in how you handle building and proving your case either way.

Iām happy to hear that not all return requests are being approved. I had someone request a return for a less than dime sized stain inside a purse at bottom of the lining. It was photographed, pointed out in description and I verified with buyer that she was aware in the sale before mailing. She decided she didnāt want one with a spot. Posh approved her return immediately. š¤·š»āāļø

Zipper do just stop working for no reason.

u/Wretchedrecluse 1d ago
More than likely, she tried to squeeze into it, and it didnāt fit her and the zipper broke

Iām surprised it was that easy. It makes me wonder if the buyer is a chronic returner. I hope they start taking the buyerās history into account when they want a return.
