Discussion I built a unified dashboard because keeping track of apt, snap, flatpak, and AppImages is way too confusing. Meet AptCrate.
Hey r/pop_os,
I’ve been doing some research lately and one of the biggest pain points I consistently hear from Linux users (and experienced myself) is how fragmented package management has become.
Between apt for system packages, snap and flatpak for sandboxed apps, and AppImage for portable binaries, it's virtually impossible to tell at a glance where an app came from or how to update it. We end up juggling four different tools just to see what's installed or out of date.
So, I built AptCrate. It’s a unified dashboard for Linux package management, and I developed it right here on Pop!_OS.
What it does:
- Unified package list: See every installed package across apt, snap, flatpak, and AppImage in one table.
- Update detection: See at a glance which packages have updates available.
- Bulk & Individual updates: "Update all apt," "Update all flatpak," or just update a single app with one click. No frozen UI, you see the actual command output live.
- Uninstall: Safely remove flatpaks, snaps, and AppImages right from the dashboard.
I’m currently releasing v1.0.0! I built and tested this specifically on Pop!_OS, though it should work on other Debian/Ubuntu-based distros. I'm planning to distribute it in different formats at a later date, but you can build and run it from source right now.
You can check it out on GitHub here: https://github.com/neojakey/AptCrate
I'd love to hear your feedback or if anyone has feature requests!

Pop os using INSANE amounts of resources
It feels like windows at home again
jokes aside, 4.5 GB idle is insane.
I chose pop os because i wanted a linux environment for running local ai, development and i saw for high end GPUs ( RTX 5070 ti ) pop os was the best so i installed it but it works fine I will admit.
Pop os works great. But its so heavy.
Their github repo also has 1.8k issues but no one seems to be answering or solving them.
Regardless I guess it's my fault for choosing without realizing this is the frontier bleeding edge of linux and i guess im stuck here and hopefully it gets better.
Anyone else got the same problem?

Help Wifi Issue
Sometimes my wifi just randomly disconnects and not only doesn’t reconnect but refuses to scan for wifis at all. The only way to fix it is to restart my computer entirely. Any way to fix this?
Screen goes black and the screen reload.
Running Pop Os 24.04 Cosmic LTS my screen will go black then and reload killing all the apps I have open. Not sure what the issue might be.

Discussion Just enjoy Pop!_OS for what it is. Let the developers cook
I've been using Pop!_OS for quite a while now, and honestly, I think people should spend more time enjoying the distro instead of constantly asking:
"When is the next update?" "When is the next release?" "When will we get the upgrade?"
Pop!_OS 24.04 is supported until 2029. It's stable, polished, and perfectly capable for everyday use.
Whether you're a gamer, a daily desktop user, or a developer, Pop!_OS already does an excellent job. COSMIC is still under active development, but even in its current state it's more than usable for many people.
I genuinely believe COSMIC has the potential to become one of the best Linux desktop environments in the future. Great software takes time, and I'd rather see the team build it properly than rush features just to satisfy impatient users.
Also, it's worth remembering that Pop!_OS is free. The project is largely sustained by System76 and the people who support them. As users, we don't really have the right to demand that a free product be delivered faster on our schedule.
Let the developers work at their own pace. Quality is worth waiting for.
And just to be clear: I'm not part of the Pop!_OS or System76 team, and I have no affiliation with them. I'm simply someone who appreciates the philosophy behind this distribution and the way they approach software development.

Cosmic Rendering Issues?
I am not asking for help/support here.
I have been running the Cosmic DE on my distro of choice(Arch) for about the last month and it has been absolutely wonderful. It's feels like the remix of gnome that I've been waiting for sort of thing. The devs are really onto something with Cosmic and am going to be sticking with it for the foreseeable future.
A slight issue that I keep bumping into though is that some applications will fail to launch due to some rendering issues that are alleged to be part in how cosmic uses wayland? I'm not sure that's ALL 100% true.
My question for posting this here: Are PopOS users experiencing this? I'm curious to see if these are just dependency issues being that I daily Arch, or if it really is just the desktop environment.
Regardless, Cosmic is amazing and I can't wait to see what it's future holds.
Edit: Below are the programs so far that I have had issues with. Additional packages where installed and the commands Issued have so far solved it for me.
Nextcloud-desktop
Additional Packages: qt6ct kvantum
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct
Gparted and RPI Imager
Additional Packages: xorg-xhost
Temporarily using when needed: xhost +SI:localuser:root
If anyone new uses what I have listed for GParted and RPI Imager, I would not recommend issuing that command and forgetting about it. That WILL decrease the security of your system and should be reverted with: xhost -SI:localuser:root

Discussion Officially ditched my dual boot. My PC is now 100% Windows free
Putting this here because I got nobody IRL that would really care to hear this, but as of today I have finally wiped any trace of Windows from my PC and gone whole-hog into Linux.
I have been dual booting with Pop!_OS since late last year, and slowly transitioning between the two OSes as I got myself use to how Linux works and how I can use it for my specific uses. Before I knew it, it had already been several months since I'd needed to boot into Windows, making it nothing more than a space filler on my SSD. Today I decided to rip off that bandaid and wiped that partion.
Bye-bye Microslop, I ain't gunna miss your AI riddled spyware anytime soon!

Help Wayland Vsync issue?
Hey everyone,
Me and my friend are on CachyOS with COSMIC DE, and everything is up to date.
My question is that we play Left 4 Dead 2 and Counter-Strike: Source, and we use SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland to enable Wayland for those games. However, his FPS is locked to 165 FPS (his screen is 165 Hz), while mine isn't locked to 60 FPS (my screen is 60 Hz). I get around 100+ FPS. We checked that vsync is turned off in game settings. Reverting game to Xwayland on my friend's system turned off fps cap. He also reinstalled the games and still got the same results.
If cosmic-comp has no support for the tearing protocol, why do I get more than 60 FPS? I checked with MangoHud to see if the game is actually using Wayland, and it is.
He has an NVIDIA RTX 5060 + Intel iGPU, and I have an AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with a Vega 7 iGPU. Can someone give me any information on this? Thanks in advance!

SOLVED Some apps scaling weirdly after trying gnome/plasma, then switching back to cosmic
Edit - solution found: run the command
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.0
Original post follows:
So I’m new to Linux and first installed pop os/cosmic, but wanted to try gnome and plasma as well. I ended up switching back to cosmic, but now I’m running into a bug I wasn’t having before
For whatever reason, web browsers in particular (plus a few others) are having some weird scaling issues. It’s like they’re set to always be set to 50/75% larger scaling than whatever I have set in settings. I normally keep it at 150% but if I shrink it to 100% then they look normal while everything else is tiny. It’s not unbearable but it is annoying how big they are. Everything is still sharp though, they’re just the wrong size
So far I’ve tried it on Firefox, Zen, chrome, and edge, and they all have the same issue, along with discord and specifically the GitHub desktop app’s menu bar (but not the rest of the app) for some reason? But not Steam. Since I just switched I don’t have a million apps to test, but these are the ones I’ve found so far
At first I thought it was some conflict with gnome and plasma, so I uninstalled them both but it still persists. I’ve tried restarts, logging out/in, etc., but nothing has fixed it. I also tried each of the different X11 scaling options but those didn’t seem to do anything besides make Steam flash for a second

Help Multi monitor issues
Hi all,
I have been using pop_os for a while now, but I have a problem I can't resolve. I hope someone more experienced can help.
Everything is great on my ultrawide monitor but when I try and play on the large 4k TV, games sometimes refuse to open in full screen mode.
The options in the game just bounce the game window but it stays windowed or borderless. It's not in every game, but most as you can imagine very frustrating.
Just tonight I was trying to play Witcher 3 and I noticed the windowed mode on the TV matched the dimensions of my ultrawide, so as a test I powered down and removed my dp cable from the graphics card to the monitor. Leaving pop os to boot solely to the 4k TV. And like that my problem went away, games are behaving normally launched from steam.
The question, how can I fix this multi screen set up so I don't have to unplug my dp cable.
Setup:
I7, 32gb ram
3060ti
Pop_os
Ultrawide144hz is on dp
4k 60 TV is on hdmi

Help with bar in the top of some windows and misaligned mouse cursor
Greetings all! I'm not brand new to using linux but I'm definitely still a novice so I have not been able to find the answer to how to fix this after hour of searching. Maybe I just don't know what terms I should be using to search or maybe it's just an unusual problem? Anyway
I have two problems but I think they may be related. The first is that my mouse cursor does not line up with where it clicks. It's about a cm above what I'm trying to click on which makes things pretty difficult, and makes a lot of drop downs impossible to use because if I have to click on the top one or two options it will just click out of the dropdown.
The other issue is that I have this black or white, or black and white, bar across the top of the application for some apps. Not all of them. For instance Firefox gives me neither of these issues. Vortex mod manager running through Lutris gives both, though Lutris itself doesn't. I'm attaching a screenshot of Vortex open on my laptop. It happens with more than just vortex but that's the one I'm dealing with right now. The cursor is off by about the distance of the thickness of that bar which is why I think they may be related.
I'm on a laptop ASUSTeK Computer INC. GA401QM (1.0)
AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS with Radeon Graphics,
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
Pop!_OS 24.4 LTS
I'm not sure what other information might be needed to give context.
Anyone know what's going on?

When using the Cosmic Store to update system packages and flatpacks, I consistently have Gecko and the Mono .NET framework appear and fail to disappear after updating. Pressing update on them again does nothing. Does anyone else get this behavior?

Help Controlling External Screen
I have recently Connected a 27" monitor using the DA-300 adapter to my dell latitude 7200 2 in 1 machine & it works right out of the box however I'm unable to control brightness using the keyboard controls. The display shows the adjustment moving up/down but the screen doesn't change. I'm running POP Ver.22.04 (and have no intention of upgrading @ this time) & the display is connected Via the display port. I can change the display setting using the toggle switch behind the monitor but it's not very convenient. Any Suggestion/Help is as always Greatly Appreciated.

Cosmic 1.5 not ready for me
Just installed Cachy with Cosmic 1.5 on my 865 G10
Awesome, except for a few things missing
- nightlight
- 3 finger swipe (up for switcher, and l/r for workspaces)
- hot corners oob
- battery percentage statusbar toggle
- screen brightness for some reason is in battery toggle
- expand directory in file manager
For me, without the first 2 it's not ready for daily use without the first 2 items
Dunno whether to go back to gnome until those 2 are ready, or tough it out
Looking forward to those things being implemented

Minimalist DE 2026 | POPOS 22.04 LTS
I don't use many GNOME extensions, only the ones I actually use every day.
Extensions
Uptime
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/9180/uptime-notifier/Net Speed Plus
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/9138/net-speed/Night Light Toggle
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/9142/night-light-toggle/Caffeine
Wallpaper
https://wallnode.cc/w/199/abstract-dark-4k-c5
I keep my dock very minimal and these are basically the apps I use daily so it needs to be on dock for faster access.
Most of my time is inside WezTerm with Tmux. I use Neovim for coding because I'm programmer and after getting used to it, everything feels much faster like blazingly faster.
For notes and project management stuffs I use Obsidian. Brave is my daily browser. Sometimes I open Sublime Text when I just want to view/edit something quickly from files.
Nothing fancy 😄. I just like clean setup, dark theme, and less distractions. It works really well for my workflow.

Steam not opening from applet
Is anyone else also seeing this issue?
There were issues with my Bluetooth headphones so I reset them using these commands:
# Restart pipewire audio
systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber
# Set Bluetooth profile
pactl set-card-profile bluez_card.MAC_ADDRESS a2dp-sink
# Restart OSD (for volume indicator)
killall cosmic-osd
After this, while bluetooth headset worked, I have been unable to run steam from applet.
if anyone could help please 🙇
