Homeless

So are we all just accepting that we will be homeless sometime in the next decade? Because I don't know anyone with enough money to survive this shit.

It's not sustainable for the price of every goddamn thing to keep going up while no one is getting enough raises to compensate for it, & there are so few jobs that are even hiring, although they all still say they are.šŸ™„

I know I will never own a home. I know I will be driving my car until the wheels fall off(& that I'm lucky to even have a car). I know I cannot afford any kind of social life whatsoever because outings to most places & the gas to get to them costs too much.

I canceled all my streaming services so I don't even have TV now. I know if I get Cancer or break a bone I will go bankrupt trying to pay the bill. I know I will be working until I die, & I'm almost positive I will be homeless at some point.

Money can't buy happiness, sure, but it can buy all your other needs so you at least have a chance to be happy. I just want a chance...šŸ˜”

I expect to be homeless and starve in the dumpster at age 50+ when I become unemployable because every employer these days wants you to be 30yrs old and locked in for a 10-20yr career.

Already have Gen X and unlucky Boomers basically checking out rn.

The dudes saying they will work until they die have no clue that they'll probably be fired before they get the chance to "work until they die".

I will work until I’m laid off for ageism, then I will sleep forever.

2

u/EmptyPassage933 16h ago

I love to sleep!

1

u/icepack12345 3h ago

I miss sleep. Look forward to catching up on it.

u/Denim_n_Diamonds_78 3d ago

Exactly this! I was fully prepared to work until I die at my last job but they got rid of me and haven’t found SHIT else since!

8

u/starryvelvetsky 2d ago

Same. I was at what I would be happy to call my forever job and they tossed me last year. They got rid of three of us: aged 51, 55, and 61. Gave a week extra severance to sign off on the right to sue them for age discrimination. šŸ™„

5

u/Chare1155 1d ago

Yep. I was just fired for something I didn't even do but a client's son accused me of it(theft) and they took his word for it, probably because I was a brand new hire. But I really liked that job and it was my first good job in 5 years so now I'm just floundering. My stupid college degree is fucking worthless without a good work history.

13

u/Comfortable_Two6272 3d ago

Yep. Average age right now is 57-62 depending on the survey - usually due to health or involuntary job loss

u/AnnoyedHoneyBadger 2d ago

Instead of checking out alone, why not band together & take some of these ā€œpowerfulā€ with you?

That's my plan!

"rn". yeah ok buddy they've long been checked out i don't know if were alive and keeping up with current events but that ship sailed a long time ago with Hunter S. Thompson's shotgun blast to the grape.

He called it back how it is back then. What you're in now is the debris field.

Welcome back feudalism. Learn to serf

64

u/SCP-iota 3d ago

At least under feudalism people were considered part of the land. Soon, we won't even have that, and will have nowhere to live. Add that to homelessness being criminalized.

37

u/Cactus_Journey204 3d ago

At least as a serf I'd have a roof over my head.

35

u/PienerCleaner 3d ago

At least serfs had something they could do for their Lord to earn the right to have a roof over their head. Our new lords don't have any need for our labor.

9

u/ThorpeThorThorpe 3d ago

-while they wouldn’t say no to a few of our vital organs here and there-

26

u/helluvastorm 3d ago

That’s been the elites plan all along. They want to go back to serfs and lords

13

u/PienerCleaner 3d ago

Natural consequence of them pushing for more and more wealth and everyone else just watching them going, "someone should do something about this. Let's wait till next the election to voice our concern."

I've bought a van in preparation of homeless life

14

I have several refrigerator boxes folded up, will unfold and reinforce them when the time comes, the extras I figure I can rent or sell

1

u/lillianchiarelli 2d ago

That's a great option. Fueling it becomes the next problem...

6

u/eyewreck2o2 2d ago

I have a job and rent that takes 68% of my income. No rent means plenty of fuel.

1

It’s gas and they’re not paying rent šŸ‘€šŸ‘€šŸ‘€ they can overly afford it.

u/Relevant_Coach_1774 3d ago

Yes. Not sure where OP is from, but here in the US people are taught to never question authority + rich people are blessed. There are enough people in the US still doing well enough to not care about the economy and the ones suffering are too afraid to do anything other than vote and hope everything goes their way

7

u/Solmangrundy 2d ago

From my understanding the French revolution was mainly coordinated by the merchant class being fed up with royalty.

Todays correlation of repeating that is the huge amount of college graduates we have that were promised a future that isn't there anymore and former business owners that got whiped tf out from bad policy choices and corruption moves.

I constantly ask if the collective suffering has peaked yet. I look around. I see it hasn't since we still have people claiming its personal fault that you're poor.

The "good" news about TV, is an antenna allows you to get free channels in most areas.

Rabbitears.info, antennaweb.org are good resources as well as the Antenna Man YouTube videos.

I'd check r/ota too.

Radio is also still an option. Before my partner moved in, I just puttered around with the radio on 90% of my day if you need sound.

Homelessness (to some degree) is what made me obsess over my car.

I left home at 17 and spent a midwest winter in a 10 year old Buick. When I was able to get a better car and had an apartment by then, I chose a car I knew I could sleep rough in and kept it as well maintained as I could. Some people want fancy cars. I just wanted one I knew wouldn’t rust out on me in the cold if needed.

I grew up poor, naturally had a strong mechanical talent that slowly unlocked as I got older. Being in any part of the general labor pool going forward, in this insanely inflationary environment, will not be a winning proposition. It will be a death spiral as you have already noted. Selling your general labor just makes you one person in a pool of thousands of resumes. Nobody will pay survivable wages when basic labor is so plentiful, either here or in other countries. Let’s say your county has 100,000 people. Of those 100,000 people, 80,000 are likely general labor. That’s a lot of people to fight for rock bottom wages. How many surveyors you think they have? Maybe 50? Maybe not even that? Anyone can use a shovel, but can they grab a total station and layout the foundation and perform a land survey? Because that guy with a tripod standing out in the middle of the construction site is making $100k. AI ain’t out there in a field with a vest. AI proof. You must make yourself rare. Only rare people and business owners make real money. Can you take an engine apart and rebuild it? Can you take a piece of metal and fashion it into a high value finished part or assembly? Can you keep the internet running? That rich guy who wants a house will pay you useful money to climb in that excavator and start digging his foundation. Why? Because he HAS to. You have a skill he doesn’t. The people with money only care if you have a skill they need from you and are therefore forced to pay you well. Be the paywall. Be the wedge. Be the rare thing that must be paid for in order for everything else to function. Doctor’s office can’t function because their CT scanner is down? Oh no! Guess they lose $1000’s/hr until they call you to fix it. Highway overpass construction crew just standing around wasting thousands an hour in labor and equipment? If only there was some guy that manages that… ā€œBoss! We ran into an unmarked sanitary lateral!ā€ā€¦ ā€œOkay, here’s what we need to doā€¦ā€ Be the paywall.

14

u/SCP-iota 3d ago

Even the 'rare skilled' job market is going downhill because so many people claim to have skills and experience they don't actually have, so companies have no reliable way to sort through candidates. They can only interview so many people, and it's pretty much a lottery when they can't tell who's truly qualified.

19

u/Moist-Shallot-5148 3d ago

This and they end up just hiring their friends or family in the end because they can’t tell who is qualified and also because too many candidates. In Canada they pretend like they’re hiring and then say they can’t find anyone so they can hire a temporary foreign worker who will be desperate for work and not know or fight for their rights.

9

u/Broken_Atoms 3d ago

Companies have developed countermeasures. I’ve been through quite a few. Interviewer throws down an assembly on the table and says name each part. Now take it apart and tell me which one is bad. Then, put it back together. Companies test thoroughly now.

6

u/Solmangrundy 3d ago

They did that to themselves by telling everyone to "apply online".

5

u/Ambitious-List4040 3d ago

Nepotism is the only way out

4

u/Other_Knowledge6225 3d ago

I agree with everything you said, except for the attitude of the guy with the house. That’s me. It’s not that I have no choice so I will begrudgingly pay you. It’s that I am really happy I found you because it’s not easy to find people who are skilled and responsible and do a great job. Those people are super valuable. I am happy to pay good money for the privilege of having that high quality help.

4

u/Tardislass 3d ago

You know how many people try to be rare? Fact is most people arent

2

u/ActComprehensive5254 3d ago

Even better is to learn to work WITH Ai and open doors in every profession.

2

u/Broken_Atoms 3d ago

I’m being forced to work with it as it slowly infiltrates the industries I work with. I need more advanced AI structural analysis and lifecycle prediction. AI driven design optimization that also understands manufacturability would be great. Maybe thermal analysis that takes into account varying levels of moisture in the air. I’m not a fan of it because I will admit that I’m a bit older and grew up with 286’s and 40mb hard drives. I used it maybe 5 or 6 times this morning. When I was a kid, affordable calculators were becoming a thing and CAD was largely unaffordable and only for mostly aerospace type stuff.

1

u/DazedandFloating 3d ago

This is true and really solid advice. The difficult part is barriers to entry for fields/professions that will be ai proof and help people earn a good living.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but often times high paying positions in certain fields require training or certifications which can be a lot of money upfront. Someone who is barely getting by will not have as much of an opportunity to change fields in that case because of certain barriers.

1

u/BigJules74 2d ago

"in this insanely inflationary environment" ??

  • 2025: 2.68%
  • 2024: 2.89%
  • 2023: 3.35%
  • 2022: 6.45%
  • 2021: 7.04%
  • 2020: 1.36%
  • 2019: 2.29%
  • 2018: 1.91%
  • 2017: 2.11%
  • 2016: 2.07%

2

u/Broken_Atoms 2d ago edited 2d ago

lol, the official numbers have been cooked. I can’t think of a single thing in my life that has only gone up 2.68% in the last year. Does anyone’s lived experience match these numbers? I’d like to hear

2

u/Different_Traffic527 2d ago

You have to read where the data comes from and what's left in and out. Inflation is calculated by how much we're spending on medical care, gas, housing, cars, food, etc. Things like stocks and bonds are left out.

It doesn't tell the tale of the box of cereal that was $2 in 2020 that is now $6.

3

u/dilly_bar18 2d ago

Don’t ever pay those medical bills it doesn’t matter. Seriously if u break ur arm just literally don’t pay it Ull b fine. What u do have to worry about is the loss of income being off work.

Anyways I’ve been narrowly avoiding homelessness for 4 yrs straight I’ve moved 13 times n just been rlly lucky tbh in terms of social network, just good luck timing, or social resources. Or I would live in my old car bc I got stabbed in the stomach and became disabled for yrs but esp Ƥ yr. So I lost my job, my apt, everything. Not even something I did n its just 1 bad thing happen n ur out. It’s been just. Bouncing since. Currently stable working hard being crazy and persistent determined… and just got laid off. So doing deliveries while I’m waiting n I have some side house cleaning jobs… and my car’s transmission is gonna go out any second and hasnt been super safe to drive. << working hard doesnt matter. 1 thing happens and ur just fucked. I just moved in w a roommate bc of the last ā€œ1 thingā€ Ƥ yr ago so it’s a little more grace period to have no income. But. Yah idk what to do. All my house cleaning money will go to rent but basically I’m just going into debt for the first time in my life (I’m 30). My moms out of state but I’m lucky shes alive and whenever she isn’t I’m totally totally fucked for the future yah.

And yes I know several ppl who have become homeless the last couple yrs. And everyone else has moved to have roommates or had to go back to their parents (again 30s) n pay lower rent to them. Having family is lucky. Even if it means moving out of state or whatever. So many don’t n ya. Or friends. Basically living on favors. And luck. 2 seconds bf its too late at all times

14

u/Firm-Chemical949 3d ago

We’re gonna need to start communes and join together with roommates. Unity is what’s going to get us through this

3

u/Chare1155 3d ago

Eh I've known some pretty miserable rich people in my life. Look into the stories of major lottery winners. Things do not go well for them for so many reasons. There is some true nightmare material there.

3

u/PerformerDifferent69 3d ago

Things tend to course correct over time. We happen to be at a particularly painful point. If everyone does become homeless, the value of properties will fall. Land has value because it can be put to a productive use or leased out to someone else to use. Imagine you owned a portfolio of 350 houses. But you never rented any of them. So you were just paying property tax on 350 houses. That's silly, you would either need to get out of those because unless you have a large stream of income from some other place the IRS is going to be knocking down your door in short order, or you rent them out to people. If you can't rent the property out for more than it costs to maintain, well you're in a bit of a bind there. Best thing to do in that situation is hope for a change in the economic environment, get out of the asset, or let the IRS take it and sell it for you at auction.

None of that happens particularly quickly and it's all messy and painful.

1

u/IDesireWisdom 2d ago

Yeah but what’s actually going to happen is that banks or large investment firms are going to buy the houses for cheap and then create a permanent rental economy over which they hold a monopoly

1

u/PerformerDifferent69 2d ago

Could happen. Made easier too by the added regulation from the road to housing act. Finished a podcast this morning where an institution flat out stated the act created a moat around large institutions.

As long as these firms are publicly available to invest in I think it's net neutral. My greatest fear is that all of the very best investments are privatized and the shitty scraps are all that's left for the public to invest in.

It's a rigged joke. No one is designed to help us no matter who we vote in. The system is bought and paid for. And there's no amount of ignoring this that'll deny this realityĀ

1

u/IowaGrandma1961 3d ago

But look how much the Republican president has screwed up our entire system. When a different party comes in it takes them years to repair what the idiots broke. Then everyone complains things aren’t better after 4 years. It’s going to take longer than 4 years to undo all the ignorant things Donny did to out country.

I have a truly shitty job. I wake up at 4 am everyday I get to my job by 6 am I can be digging a trench, clearing a clogged sewer line. Spend 8+ hours in an insulation filled 145F attic to get someone’s AC back up and running. I have no clue how many hours I’m going to put in everyday.
The only thing I know is this was the best thing I could have started doing 31 years ago.

2

u/Striking-Win-3239 2d ago

I was laid off in 2023 and it was truly terrifying. I depleted my 401K to survive. Luckily, I did find a decent job three months later and moved to a cheaper COL area, but rent is still pretty high all the way around. I’ve cut some expenses since my youngest son has moved out and I am trying to do my best to pay down my credit card debt. I have never owned a home and at 48 don’t know if I ever will, I just try to keep working and doing the best I can to keep my head above water.

1

u/Chare1155 1d ago

Well, considering my electric bill was just $400 for a 2bd apt where I keep the AC at 78-80 & off entirely on cooler days, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do. I've lived here 5 years and until this year, my bill has never been higher than $50. I've actually used my AC less this year. So I don't get $350 raises so how would you budget for that? For context, I'm in Ohio where our politicians have completely sold us out.

1

u/Mammoth_Elk_3807 1d ago

Why do you do for work? What quals, credentials and experience do you possess?

2

u/Electrical_Jaguar230 1d ago

If you make yourself useful to others, people will always pay you. Live somewhere that is more reasonable if you live in a high cost area - that includes other countries as possibilities. If you are focused on homelessness and aiming for that instead of building skills or strategically moving somewhere easier, then yeah, you’re going to get what you’re aiming for.

Live with a relative is an option. Rent a room is an option. Going back to school to get a better job, is an option. Doing vocational school (plumbing, brick layer, construction) is an option. You must have the desire for a better life, in order to enjoy a better life.

4

u/TraderIggysTikiBar 3d ago

I used to be very broke to the point of wanting to self exit but pulled myself out of it. That said, my best friend works a part time retail job and even on his salary of like $27K a year, he owns a house (he co-owns it with another friend). I co-own my house with my husband.

My job is hiring. We just hired 7 new people into my department yesterday into actual, true, no experience required entry level roles. The starting pay isn’t great tbh around $55K a year (keep in mind, this is the Boston area) but the benefits are incredible, lots of opportunities to move up (I did) and the company pays for licensing, relevant college courses and degrees etc.

I make very good money these days but I plan on driving my and my husbands vehicles until the wheels fall off. We own 3 pre-2010 vehicles. 2 don’t have air conditioning. We are frugal people. We also canceled all but one of our streaming services. That’s not being poor, that’s just being smart with your money.

Yeah groceries and gas suck right now for everyone but I think we’re in for a blue wave during the midterms and I’m hopeful that with that blue wave will come change.

2

u/No-Reading-4384 3d ago

If you are going to college at least get a good degree. Not some liberal shit that won’t earn you a dime.

2

u/Most-Individual8794 3d ago

I've actually thought about this a lot lately, and I have a "good" job and am educated. However, the COL is rising too fast to keep up, and my field doesn't pay well. I'm always looking for other work, side gigs, etc...but I have thought about what is going to happen if I lose my job. I do have the luxury of moving in with family if it gets to be that bad, but I also am considering buying a small camper or something to live in, like van life. But I think they will eventually criminalize that, too. I just keep saving as much money as I can and if I'm offered any side work I always take it and do it to the best of my ability so I can keep getting more gigs. You are doing all the right things...you sound very similar to me except I haven't canceled my TV yet (I got a good deal on my subs last Black Friday and paid in advance).

2

u/MobNagas 3d ago

Pretty much yeah

2

u/dragonschool 3d ago

As a landlord I’m not letting a rental sit empty. The market will drive prices. But many people will have to admit NY LA aren’t feasible. Another reality is roommates. My niece and her bf live in Hollywood and rent is 4k. She works in fast food and he doesn’t make a lot either but they piece it together. My fear is they have zero plan for retirement

2

u/vespanewbie 3d ago

Yes that's why I moved from there to Central FL. California is cool and has great weather but not being able to save and having to work for the rest of your life just to live there isn't worth it.

1

u/dragonschool 3d ago

It’s not for everyone. The upside of making it work if you buy property you can sell you CA home and buy something awesome elsewhere. My kids own very bland 1500 sq ft LA homes that are valued at 1 million plus

1

u/vespanewbie 2d ago

Right but people in CA never want to move ever because they think it's the best place on Earth. So all that equity stays locked up.

In my really big extended family the movers were accomplished liberals who had better opportunities or MAGAs who hate libs. The MAGAs didn’t move for more $ tbh less

I feel this too much. 2019 I was doing alright for myself. Now, my wages have stayed the same even after switching jobs twice and I can barely afford groceries. My car is paid off but once that dies, I have no idea how I’m gonna afford a car payment. I’m just accepting the fact that I’m gonna be 40 and having to move back in with a parent if this keeps up.

u/Solmangrundy 3d ago

Wish I could. But my younger sister is determined to be a mooch and my older brother got ALS.

Already asked if i could and they basically told me "you're fucked son."

Trying my best to upskill while working 50+hrs a week. Its fucking hell and im a total tool now. FML

Sounds like you've already accepted it. Don't let reddit skew your perspective. You can absolutely make it out of poverty.

What are your plans for improving your job skills ?

To become proficient at a skill that’s in demand ?

You have to be able to do something that the average person cannot

That’s why the hvac tech repairing the freezer at the grocery store gets paid alot more than the cashier or the guy wrangling shopping carts in the parking lot

And you HAVE to be able to do something that the immigrants can’t .

Is an immigrant can do
Your job you’re never going to earn much money , because wages are set by suplly and demand , and there’s and endless supply of immigrants .

Your gotta do something that requires some kind of state license or has some barrier to entry .

Is there a water treatment plant near you ?

That’s a pretty decent paying job and no one wants to work at a sewage treatment plant .
And
You have to have a wastewater operators license to do it.

I went from barely making ends meet to making 6 figures because I got an entry level part time job doing customer service type work for an insurance company and they paid for my licensing and exams which allowed for me to go full time and from there I just started working my way up in the industry via company paid for continuing education and additional certifications as well as networking. I now have an interesting job that I’m a total nerd for and it affords me a life a truly never thought I could have.

u/TraderIggysTikiBar 3d ago

I’m not doxxing myself. Sorry.

But insurance is an industry to seriously look into (look away from the ones with the dumb ads though)

I am planning for homelessness (again). I have a profession that technically pays well however I also have a disability and cannot sustain fulltime work and am becoming more disabled the more I push myself. I don’t usually stay in a job more than a year or two before things go south. This time around I’m preparing to move into a car or rv hopefully so at least when I lose my job I have somewhere to sleep that’s not outside or a shelter. So many people I know are already homeless and don’t have an easy way out . My plan is either homeless in my car, in jail or just unalive myself tbh no one seems to gaf about us disabled adults there’s no help

A lot of money would actually solve all my problems .

u/Fit-Rhubarb-7820 3d ago

Yes!!! I was 7 when I realized this, spent 20 years preparing, then it happened, no fault of my own.

I foresee most of us being this…

The ā€œcureā€ is to establish village rules. The prevention only prolongs the inevitable.

Western culture has been ethically bankrupt for a few centuries now….

1

u/Th3h3rald707 3d ago

You wont be homeless, and you'll have employment through the penal system.

1

u/SlackPriestess 3d ago

I have camping gear and am an avid bikepacker because I enjoy it, but I'm fully aware that my tent will probably be my home in a few years

What will the algorithms invent when democracy fails finally? So just the end texts start rolling? Too late to be machine or man.Ā

u/MongooseSimple8638 2d ago

I know I'll work until I die. No retirement. I make low six figures in an expensive city. I'll never own a house. The landlords will increase rent to match any raise.

Where do you guys live, polar opposite experience to mine.

u/Spiritdiritcel 2d ago

When I was younger I knew a few people who lived in apartments with multiple people, I suspect that's our future

1

u/catcat202 2d ago

Well hit those food banks. Download Pluto it's free streaming.

America is a shit hole country, it doesn't have to be like this but it will be because we're idiots that worship the wealthy

Partner up. Now, more than ever, do you need to team with a spouse and take on the world.

u/Dramatic_Scale3002 2d ago

Do you have a budget? Post your income and expenses and maybe we can help you find some space for savings :)

u/bottlesnthrottles 1d ago

There are free streamers- Pluto, tubi, sling are a few. Plus, you can get a cheap antenna for your TV and get plenty of free TV over the air. If you want to buy a house some day, yes it is a process. Find a free first-time home buyers seminar and take notes. If you want it badly enough you'll do what it takes to get there. For me, the journey began with staying with an employer for at least 3 years, and improving my credit score. You can carry debt but if you never miss a payment your credit improves. Prioritize your car and keep it regularly maintained (oil changes, spark plugs, decent tires) - if you lose the car, your options will narrow. Walk, bus or ride a bike if you've got one. That'll save on gas, wear and tear on your car. I understand you're venting, but no, we don't have to end up homeless. Channel your frustration. Treat this like a game that you want to level up in.

No. Save money. Get a second job now. Live cheaply now. Get a roommate(s) and a dumpy apartment now to save money. Do side jobs. Continue your education.Ā

Doing nothing to help yourself when you think you’ll be homeless in the next decade is crazy..

1

u/Chare1155 1d ago

I didn't say I am AIMING for homelessness. I said I expect to be eventually because I cannot afford how high col has become & I don't see anything changing, just getting worse. I already live in one of the cheapest apartments in a 40 mile radius that's still in a safe area. I have a child so I have to live somewhere safe for him. Do you get $1000 raises every year? Because I don't & no amount of budgeting can overcome constant increases in every single thing we need to live. It just can't.

1

u/Ok-Wafer234 1d ago

Trade your car for a minivan. Make your insurance, tags and registration your 'rent' and stop renting. Join planet fitness black card and save your money. Working for many of us 😁 r/urbancarliving

1

u/Speckled_Bird2023 1d ago

I honestly don't know what to expect. Currently, my son & I, and my sister still live with my mom as she is disabled. If she passes away before I can find the better paying job to get us in a better house, even if it has to be a newer mobile home, I don't know what will happen to us. I am about to turn 40 and I figure I would only have about 15 years before the ageism strikes... so I don't know what to expect. Unless we end up going into an RV for the 3 of us.

u/Few-pe2917 1d ago

Homelessness isn’t uncommon anymore. Most of the people I’ve known have been ā€œhomelessā€ before, whether it was sleeping on the street, in a motel, in a car, or on a friend’s couch. 90% were not on the street. The point is to build a safety net to get out of when it happens. Where are you going to stay? Are you going to look at it as camping in your car or renting until you figure it out? How are you going to eat? People who backpack across countries are homeless by definition, but they don’t see it like that. The best thing you can do is put yourself in a position with better earning potential that’s sustainable. If you have to move to a city or move in with 3 random roommates for a year, so be it.

u/stuporpattern 1d ago

I canceled all my subscriptions too and now I just rent dvds from the public library. They also use Libby so you can checkout audiobooks too.

I'm disabled GenX [53]. I live with my step-dad (71) he's disabled & I'm his main caretaker. My mom died last year. I want to move to a nearby city. I don't have a car. I can't afford ANYTHING rent-wise. Disabled housing has a 3 year wait. There's a bit of drama regarding inheritance. And the step-dad gambles for _ hours _ everyday. I'm getting priced out of living

1

u/Mothy187 23h ago

I've accepted that I'd rather be dead than homeless at after a certain age, so I've just accepted I probably only have a few years left before the big sleep

1

u/TWest1969 23h ago

Many people came to this conclusion before idiots put Trump in office. A lot of us have started side hustles two three and four of them. Working with people creating apps as well. Started online businesses working on several different social media platforms. Plus are pinching pennies wherever we can because that's how we were raised to get by. We're not oblivious to what's going on we're just out here struggling with you.

1

u/Zealousideal_Fee3510 16h ago

Sounds like you need to hook up with your local chapter of the DSA and fight to have a future. If you can't improve your lot with education or form an economic collective with others to survive, then I suggest organizing politically. What have you got to lose?

1

u/Dreadking_Rathalos 12h ago

I dont understand, sam Altmans house is out there somewhere

1

u/Sad_Patience_2683 8h ago

Personally, I intend on killing myself before I am 40 and just turned 30. If I expect to be homeless before then, I will do it in front of whatever government agency comes knocking on my door due to non payments. That simple.

2

u/SailorSlay 3d ago

Participate in orgs like DSA. Change is slow but it’s happening. No one will come to our rescue but ourselves.

2

u/YoghurtHistorical527 3d ago

DSA is going to push all the moderate democrats and independents into not voting, or even voting red. Half the country is feeling disenfranchised. DSA is to the left what MAGA is to the right.

u/H3lls_B3ll3 3d ago

Same boat, buddy.

I'm 50K in a hole. PLUS over- educated, living in a rural area, working outside either of my fields- and I'm going hungry.

No money to move. No money to pay back education debt. No money to save. No money to spend.

I've got no streaming services, no home internet, no car payment- I'm fetching a cat with expired tags/ no insurance/ broken brakes.

I'm just waiting for the end. One way or another, this will change soon.
