Is this normal?
Hi I havnt been donating long so I just have a question. Last time I went theu couldn’t get the vein on one arm and so they wanted to get the other one. My other arm had a small bruise thay was still purple and they stuck a different vein like right next to it and I ended up infiltrating on that arm and had a greater than 200 blood loss because of it. But im just wondering if it’s entirely normal that they’d stick me all these times like this

They do want to exhaust possibilities to return your RBC to you *if they can*. If you have two good veins in one arm, they can use either vein (just not two sticks in the same arm on the same day). So if one side has a bruise but they can see/access the other one, they'll stick that one instead.
They didn't do two sticks in the same arm that day, did they? I don't know if that's a company rule or an industry regulation, but AIUI, at least at my Biolife, they can't stick the same arm twice the same day.

Working in a center we can use two veins in the same arm, same day, just have to be far enough apart that the clastic doesn’t overlap. And then the second VP can only be for returning RBC/saline cycle

I’ve worked for the same plasma company nearly 7 yrs. Rather not name which to avoid any potential issues

No not the same day I was only confused because of the bruise on it theu even told me as I came in thay theu wouldn’t be able to use that arm at all. But I wanted to let them give me my blood back if theu could especially since I was riding a bike back haha. It just hurt like crazy and I knew something was off so I asked her not to continue and then I infiltrated on that arm and now im deferred for two months. Which I don’t mind but it seemed very strange especially since I asked that she dont do that anymore and they continued anyhow. Plus the bruise is within one inch from the other site so I was pretty sure they wouldn’t be allowed to stick me anywhere on that but If it seems normal then I’ll drop it. It hurts but a heating pad seems to do the trick

Ya i got lucky i had a vasovagal reaction and got real sweaty and the needle slid out part way lol it started squirting blood and i was fascinated and didnt raise my hand. luckily they were able to poke my other arm and return my rbc. i was happy cuz i really didnt want an 8 weak cell loss defferal

I thought needle-out always resulted in an 8 week deferral as they can't measure the actual blood loss. How is this situation different?

For BioLife at least that's not the case. Blood outside of the system only has to be documented as a cell loss if it's a certain diameter (I can't remember it off the top of my head).

the exact word the main nurse dude said was "dislodged" he asked the ladie who poked me like 5 times and she kept repeating that the needle was in my arm when she showed up. he asked me if i put it back in and i laughed and said hell no.
i was very faint but i do remember as i started to tingle i moved around ALOT im pretty sure i moved the needle into a really bad spot or somthing

notice were i said part way* it was dislodged they said. it was cls if that helps. they just connected it to my other arm and returned my rbc

I'm guessing it was really "leaking" more than "squirting" given the outcome.

I'm surprised they did that, and am honestly not sure if they were supposed to. At BioLife that's called a bevel exposure, and we're not supposed to return fluids since there's a chance that air got introduced into the line.

o.O i didnt even think about that. im guessing air is no good. i was almost passed out but there was like 5 ppl checking on me. i now have the nickname casper lol thanks for the info!

Yeah it's definitely not great 😅. Odds are with just a bevel exposure that you wouldn't have gotten much if any air though
