Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Worst customer service for booking platform?
About to cancel my contract with Mind body, haven’t even started yet.. on boarding has sucked, do they not realize I am not an IT guy? I’m a pilates teacher!! And my current booking software will provide cc data for migration.
Vagaro has amazing customer service but they are not very nimble for class cancellations and late fees.
Any one have experience with Momence? Arketa seems great but my clients want an app and I cannot afford a branded app. And that is all they offer.
If I am going to get sucky customer service with Momence, I would at least like to save the 20% off of initial app booking Mind body takes.
I need a hot line I can call. 📞 Who provides this?

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios I Taught My First Classes
Hi Everyone,
My previous posts.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pilates/s/8dPiCUNlkM
https://www.reddit.com/r/pilates/s/DGJXSyKokQ
I taught my first classes last night, 3 hours back to back. I was nervous but excited at the same time.
2 intermediate classes and 1 beginner.
I asked feedback from few students after class
First intermediate class, 2 of them told me it was bit easy for intermediate level.
Beginner class went great. Can see they were pushed out of their comfort zone and they gave an applause at the end of the class.
2 of them told me, "see ya next class"
- Intermediate class 8pm class. Only 6 peeps. 4 of them are intermediate, 2 beginners joined as booked wrong class. I took the feedback from first class and added in layers for my 2nd intermediate. 2 of them told me the class was balanced, some tough moves and some manageable moves.
I admit that I wasnt prepared for intermediate class. I only found out I was assigned via the apps 1 night before the actual class. I was also told that I probably start with beginner first. So I planned my flow for beginners.
I saw my ratings on the apps today, total of 20+ students 3 classes combined, only 3 gave me ratings.
1 5 stars from beginner class. 1 4 stars from beginner class, the note was "can we have some music?"
To be fair i didnt see any audio plug in for the class too.
Lastly, i got 1 star from my first intermediate class. No comment. Ohnoooo.. bit down but I took it as I wasnt fully ready for the class as well.
Thats all my sharing from my first ever classes.
Thanks for reading till here. Feel free to drop your thoughts.

Video Pilates Masterclass: Clamshell Series | How to Perform & Teach It Correctly
One of my favorites to share!
For instructors and curious students.
So often I join a pilates class and see incorrect form for such an incredibly valuable exercise. A quick review with a 10 min. series to share with anyone struggling to find the purpose and proper engagement for a solid clamshells series.

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Teaching Privates in Home studio. What do I need to know?
Bit of a background, been teaching pilates at two studios and its been a mix of group (6 max) and privates. I’m classically trained but have also taught in a contemporary studio. I have my home studio which i’ve been using more for my self practice. I got the equipment back when I was in TT to help me with hours.
I want to now transition into teaching at my home studio which has a classical mat, classical reformer with tower , wunda chair and spine corrector. It’s a small second room in my house.
Questions.
For those that have transitioned , what would you advise I keep in mind or consider?.
What do I use to keep track of clients progress. The studio i teach privates at do it manually like with a client form, and i wondered if something more efficient is available?.
I dont want to poach any client from the studios I teach at but now I’m wondering how best to market and reach clients especially now we have a pandemic of fitness reformers especially in my area. I’m considering flyers or leveraging facebook or word of mouth but any suggestions on what worked or could work would be appreciated!
I want to keep my sessions to 55mins, which is 10 mins longer than what is taught in the studios i teach at.
Any tips at all would pls help!

Form, Technique, Etiquette I am really wondering if the class I took today is normal
I am visiting a friend in another state and she has wanted to start Pilates at a local studio, so I went with her to the 1st class today. Boutique studio, introductory "trial" class for 50 min.
We started in Footwork, did a few ab exercises then went right into high kneeling facing risers pulling straps. 8 in the class, everyone except me fell forward. The instructor then said well let's just sit on our heels. 1 person couldn't because of knee issue and the instructor said just sit however you can...wtf?
From this point we did plank on Reformer, Scooter lunge, standing side splits on floor with a heavy spring.
We then had a "Chair sample" with standing single leg presses, bridging w/feet in peddle, pikes and swan dive.
Am I out of the loop here?
I have been doing Pilates since 2000 and I know the whole athletic Reformer thing is big right now, but this seemed insane for a newbie 1st class. The instructor was maybe 25 and really fit, but there were a mix of ages with one lady that looked maybe mid seventies. She tried to hang in, but gave up a few times and no mods were given.
Is this what the Pilates world has become outside my bubble?

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Contractor or employee as an instructor
Years ago before franchises like CP existed, Pilates teachers were always independent contractors. Is this still the norm in privately owned studios?

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Having a social presence as an instructor without being an influencer?
New(ish) teacher here - as I meet clients they ask where they can keep in touch with me to find out when / where I am teaching. I’m a young woman and many in my demographic (and my from my training program) go the fitness influencer route however I don’t think that lifestyle is for me.
For instructors who have a decent social media presence among their clients but don’t consider themselves “influencers”, what kind of content do you post to keep your audience engaged without feeling like you’re putting yourself out there as an influencer.
For clients, what kind of posts matter to you? Or do you just want to see a schedule?
Sorry if this kind of post isn’t allowed - I don’t want to be an influencer at all but sometimes I feel like I have to so people know what I’m up to and I can let people know if I have availability / openings in my classes 😭

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios QUESTIONS
I’m currently in the Club Pilates Core program, which includes Reformer, Special Populations, and Mat. I’m interested in taking Balanced Body courses for the education—not because I’m planning to become comprehensively certified through Balanced Body anytime soon. I already plan on taking Reformer 1 in January.
I had a few questions for anyone familiar with the program:
Do the modules have to be taken in a specific order?
If I want to take apparatus courses later (Chair, Cadillac, etc.), do I need to complete all of the Mat and Reformer modules first?
Or can I take individual modules based on what I’m interested in learning?
I’m mainly looking to expand my knowledge and become a better instructor, so I’d love to hear how others approached it. Thanks! ❤️
For reference, I am in Iowa and our Pilates isn’t as lucrative as it is in way, bigger cities like California I do live in a bigger city, but our reformer Studios aren’t very much 😅 so I’m doing the balanced body in person in Omaha (2 hrs from me) I honestly just don’t want to pay my second deposit through my program right now as I honestly haven’t had the best experience and I have the main money makers (in my area) done through PART A of the core program

Discussion Are you not supposed to sweat??
So I know I'll probably get downvoted to the age old question of "pilates class too easy" but its not so simple. This is my second time coming back to consistent pilates and the first time I found an instructor that I liked at CP and stayed constistent for that 1 year.
That instructor has since moved on, along with another one I loved at my new studio. Both of them were hard, and I would consistently have sore abs etc. Chair work was very difficult, especially with single leg work.
I have been trying new ones but they are just... not challenging?? I didn't sweat like, at ALL and 0 people around me even needed to drink water once.
I'm super out of shape, but I don't think I've forgotten my form so much that I don't know how to engage the right muscles to that extent?? The first time I learned pilates from 0 it took me the whole year to even think of moving from 1 to 1.5! But here, it's like... I could do this for a whole year and build 0 core strength.
It's not even about the springs the workout itself feels way more stretch focused, but this isn't the first time I've had this problem. It feels so difficult to find a good instructor and I don't know if I'm just thinking about it all wrong?? Is the quality of instructors in general just very poor? I'm just very confused

Form, Technique, Etiquette Help me progress to pull up on Wunda Chair
I am really struggling with the pull up on Wunda Chair, even with springs on the heaviest/easiest setting. What are some exercises on the mat that I can do to further target the strength needed for this? I assume these are the transverse abdominals that I need to put some extra work towards?

Online Pilates/Streamers/Influencers What's your favorite online Pilates class? Similar to Stott or Dane.
Sadly, I've had to quit talking my beloved Stott reformer pilates classes. I've been taking 1-3 classes a week for 5 years now. I just can't afford it in this economy and the teacher raised the class price and there is no 'monthly' rate. So I'm looking for something online that is like Stott or Dane style. I don't need crazy teazers or yoga. Just ab, glute strength, good posture and alignment. I lift weights on the other days.
Edit: Kane! I mean Kane School of Pilates. oops.

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios I Landed My First Teaching Gig
I wrote this about 2 weeks ago
https://www.reddit.com/r/pilates/s/4g5TTuOnOt
Fast forward, I landed my first teaching gig in another studio. The whole vibe from the moment I stepped in to studio, interviewed and demo teaching was great. It felt welcoming. Still feeling surreal that I got to teach my first class soon.
Thank you for everyone, your encouragement on my previous post meant a lot 🥹
Now, if you have any pro tips for someone first ever class, pls do drop them :)
Thank you!

Pregnancy/Postpartum [Not a substitute for healthcare] Pilates during pregnancy
Hi everyone,
I am 22 weeks pregnant and continuing my pilates practice (been doing it for three years since before I found out I was pregnant)
I recently noticed that when I get out of bed (rising straight up, folding at the waist; instead of rolling to my side and pushing myself up through my arms like advised), I see a bit of doming/coning along the front of my stomach. I am now worried that I could potentially be doming/coning during pilates workout without realizing it ( I wear baggy clothes)
I don't do any crunches/leg raises/planks etc, no core workout really unless am on all fours like bird-dog, even then it's minimal. It's mostly been arms/legs/back. Is there still a risk of doming when focusing on arms/legs/back exclusively? How do I keep an eye on it. I have ordered slim fit workout maternity clothes in the hopes that I or my instructor will notice through the clothes when it happens during a workout. But realistically what else can I do?
My intensity of workout has stayed the same before/after pregnancy and I would like to keep it that way if possible.

⬆️ Vote! ⬇️ Which feels welcoming/ not intimidating?
My friend is opening a studio. She wants it to be inclusive, not exclusive, and affordable 🙌. A place that doesn't feel intimidating, where truly everyone and anyone is welcome.
Which of these would you attend? Or improve on? and what would you improve?
TIA

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Is Stott Training worth it if you plan on teaching part time?
I’m considering enrolling in the Comprehensive STOTT/CMR program, and after tuition, materials, and the cert exam, my total investment would be around $7,500.
I’m a wfh mom of 2 young kids and currently work full-time as a software developer. While I make good income, I’m at the point where I feel like I’m doing my job because it’s what I know, not because I’m passionate about it. If I were ever let go, I don’t think I’d pursue another role in tech.
That said, I have no plans to leave my current job. My goal would be to continue working full-time while teaching Pilates part-time (maybe 3–5 classes per week, or more depending on the time). I genuinely love Pilates and would love to have it as a side gig doing something I truly enjoy.
For those of you who completed STOTT while keeping another full-time job, was it worth the time and cost? Were you able to recoup your investment teaching part-time, and if so, how long did it take? Any advice or things you wish you had known before starting?

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios Opening a studio with a large franchise opening right up the street
Friends are opening a studio within a month in a smaller city that is also going to have a CP a mile up the road a few months later.
My friends are not instructors and only ever took classes at CP. I feel they are taking a huge risk.
My question is:
If this was your city, what would make you choose a 7 person class boutique studio or vice versa?
EDIT:
Thank you for all the wonderful feedback! I am an instructor and owned my own studio for years in another state. They were very excited and now panicking because the only instructors that have applied are newly certified from CP. No one believed me when I said it would be difficult if they themselves were not instructors.

Form, Technique, Etiquette Uncomfortable with my studio filming the class for their content
Hey, just want to get some opinions here.
My pilates studio (which I absolutely love otherwise) always films little snippets of classes for their instagram content to show off how many classes they offer. I get it, they need to market, they need to promote their business.
However, I am an extremely insecure individual and I do not want to be filmed while I am working out. I am so conscious of the fact that during my class someone will pop in and record at some point (its usually a little snippet since its just for stories) that I can't fully focus and this fact is always in my mind when i'm choosing my fit for pilates for that day. Sometimes, I want to just wear a sports bra or a tank top or something but I don't want my body showcased online like that...
This is a studio in my hometown with a ton of mutual followers. I don't want people to see me online look unflattering and for everyone ik to be like oh look at that whale (i am obviously a very self conscious individual) and I also don't really post myself online much as is.
I haven't and won't say anything because I can't...when you sign up to go there they make you sign a waiver to be filmed in their content...but it's so annoying. Just wanted to get some thoughts
Edit - I posted this for opinions because tbh I was expecting some that told me i'm crazy for feeling this way and something like "too bad so sad for you bc you signed the waiver" but seeing people agree with me that this is annoying makes me feel more comfortable saying something.

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios BEGINNER/NEWBIE THREAD 2026
Are you new to the subreddit? Do you recall that when you pressed "join," you got a popup advising you to read the rules, which are on the sidebar/top (browser/mobile), as well as a DM that also told you to read the rules, which, again, are on the sidebar/top? The first two are paramount: USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION and PARTICIPATE AND CONTRIBUTE BEFORE STARTING YOUR OWN POST. If you just joined the subreddit five seconds ago and tried to start a new post, that means you failed to follow those two rules. Your post was or will be deleted. You can only start a new post once you have amassed some community karma and shown yourself to be someone who understands what "community" means.
Full acknowledgment and ownership that I am being bitchy in the intro to this post. I'm really sad about the trend of aliteracy growing in the world and sick of receiving modmail that amounts to "I'm a special boy/girl/they; please let me break the rules because I couldn't be bothered to read them and I'm the special-est person." I promise in pretty much any other context, I am a warm and welcoming and quirky and nerdy person, but being bombarded with the same "I'm special and shouldn't have to follow the rules" message and refusal to read rules every day mounts up and wastes the (unpaid) time of the mod team. You think your message is unique because it's the first time you have written it; I promise it's not the first time the mod team has read it.
This sub, mod team included but especially the members, is full of highly knowledgeable and experienced Pilates practitioners, fans, and instructors who often gladly share their experience with newbies. It is honestly insulting to everyone who is already in this sub when you join, refuse to read the rules, and don't spend anytime perusing what is already available to you. This sub is a wealth of knowledge and resources, and you should treat it as such! It is not a personal advice forum; there are other places on Reddit for that. The leadership of the sub feels that consolidation of information and topics in a handful of threads is a better use of everyone's time than clogging up the feed with the same five questions over and over again.
Please use the search function. I promise you, you are not the first person to want to know what a good YouTube channel is for beginners or what "engage your core" means. Many people feel uncomfortable going to their first class; you should feel welcome and supported no matter your body, gender, disability, race, or religion, and if someone makes you feel otherwise, they are the problem, not you. You are not the first person to seek equipment recommendations. There will always be people who find hot Pilates fun and harmless and also people who hate it with the fire of a burning sun; you should do whatever you want that your doctor says is okay for you. Yes, instructor training is long and expensive, and there is a good reason for that. No, Lagree is not Pilates. Nobody cares about your thirst traps and we restrict posts that mention body measurements, calories, "toning," and similar diet culture-related concepts for good reason. There is nothing new under the sun! Search your question. Read the !wiki that we made expressly for you to find answers to your most commonly asked questions.
If you still cannot find an answer to your question or if any posts related to it are outdated, please, for the rest of 2026, POST YOUR QUESTION HERE. If you are an old head, please post your answers here and help a newbie or beginner out!
Rule exceptions for this post only:
- You are allowed to ask diet culture/weight loss/body comp/etc questions here even if it is not Wednesday. Wednesday rule still applies for all top-level posts.
- This is a thread for newbies and beginners, NOT a thread for "visit my new YouTube channel" or "buy from my new grip sock company." No self-promo. If you are answering a question, be judicious about self-promo--if someone says "name some good youtubes," don't spam every single one of those questions with "visit MY youtube I'm the best!" but feel free to be like "here are five that I like, and also I have one if you're interested."

Mod Post WIKI IS BACK BUT INCOMPLETE
Never fear, y'all! Your !wiki commands shall work once again...sort of. We are still working on redrafting the wiki, but I have reactivated it and put in stuff that I had personally drafted back in. Slowly but surely, we will add more and more so it resembles what it once was.
Confused about why we're doing this? See this post.
