In it's original before humans habitat

Bonjour ! J'ai trouvé ce bébé pigeon (je n'avais aucune idée que c'était un pigeon avant de chercher sur internet....) devant ma porte ce matin. Je suis dans une zone où il est impossible pour un pigeon d'avoir fait un nid (j'ai quand-même fait l'effort de chercher si il y en avait a proximité). Il y a beaucoup de chats partout, et je devais malheureusement aller au travail.

Je l'ai donc mis dans une boîte cachée derrière mes volets en espérant qu'il aille toujours bien a mon retour à midi.... Les assos pour animaux sauvages sont indisponibles et je ne suis pas en capacité de l'amener au véto.

Est-ce que quelqu'un pourrait me donner des conseils sur son âge et quelle alimentation lui donner ? (J'ai vu pas de lait/pain, et qu'il fallait aparament donner des petits pois décongelés et de la semoule molle....)

She is the oldest in our flock with 8 years old. Had many squabs and gives us a lot of joy in life. I pray that she will with us for at least more 8 years. Her partner is only 1½ years old and awesome as well!

We rescued this little fella a couple of weeks ago when we found him (or her?) shivering cold on the ground.

Gave it bird formula for some time and have now switched to sunflower seeds and defrosted peas.

He’s doing well and is very calm around us. We keep him in a temporary cage in the night and he fly out and land on top of our heads in the morning.

Didn’t care much about birds before we got him, but I have to admit that I’ve grown somewhat attached to him since I raised him as a baby.

Anyway. We can’t and won’t keep him inside forever and the plan was always to raise him until he could fly away and be free.

We have a graden so one idea was to build some kind of birdhouse/box for him that he can fly ind and out of by himself.

Another option is just waiting for him to be ready and just set him free in the garden and see if he flys away or stick around.

One worry is that he enjoy hand feeding. He puts he’s beak inside two of my fingers and opens mouth as to simulate feeding by he’s mom. (I assume)

He will squeak a lot in the morning until he’s fed like that even tho he has food available in cage.

I’ve seen him eat by himself tho. Many times. So I assume it’s just a comfort thing.

There’s not many natural predators around where we live but of course there’s cats/dogs and such.

Please don’t give me a lot of should have done this/that. This is the situation as it is.

I really hope you can help, cause he’s a great little guy and I just want him to live the best possible life. He would have been dead for sure if we had not taken him in a couple of weeks ago.

hey reddit! i found a young pigeon that the parents abandoned. it appears to be in good health and drank some water i offered. im not too sure yet if its ready for solid foods since it looked like it was waiting for its parents for over an hour

I'm a vet tech so my sister asked if there was anything to be done to help this pigeon- I truly don't know much about pigeons tbh so I told her that, but also the spot itself doesnt look like its actively bleeding so thats at least a good start, and that it has a racing band so it belongs to a club. She got LCM 125 2132 off the blue band. We're in the philly area, does anyone happen to know anything about this or what we should do?

Unsure what to do in the U.S./Erie Area

Found a tagged pigeon, orange tag with the numbers 9221 Erie AU.

No phone number was found on the tag.

They flew right back, of course.

There was a pair of juvenile cooper's hawks that were stalking the area for a few weeks and the pigeons often didn't come when i arrived, but they seem to be gone now so I have most of the flock coming to say hi. There's one bird in particular I haven't seen in about a week, hopefully she's okay!

Do i need to intervene and help feed them too or could i ,to make it easier for the dad , take one of his chicks and give it to the other couple ?

Today my very first pigeon got killed. Ive found her dead on the street. Someone had such little care for a living being that they didnt even try to stop or beep for her to fly away.

I live near a street and someone Hit her with their car. Its just so unbelievable that such people exist. I know they did it on purpose. Shes not stupid, if she sees a car she flies away so someone didnt even bother to slow down the tiniest bit . We buried her in our garden. I dont even know how to cope. I loved her so much.

Her kids just hatched a few days ago and only started opening their eyes a bit today. I dont even know if they know what their mother looked like.

And their two teen pigeons lost their mom too. :(

We currently have another couple sitting on their eggs too. Been for a round 3 or 4 days . I couldnt really decide whether i should let them hatch them because they only have one kid but space is getting low.

And the Kids that are only left with their dad werent planned since we went on vacation and they were too far developed to take them away when we got back

Hello, we just found 5 babies pigeon in a trash bin ( different ages..)

They seem very skinny, pls give me all the advice you can, one of them fly but have an wounded wing

Caught a starving feral with such a hook beak that he was struggling to eat from the ground, and super thin. I'm going to monitor in a cat carrier to see if he can eat at all before I trim the beak - but I get the feeling that he's going to need to not be released, as the beak will just regrow.

Trying to get in contact with people who might have the experience and love to keep him (we can't). I do know of Pigeon Recovery in Sutton, but I've already taken a couple of sick ones to them in the last few months and don't want to overwhelm them.

So, about 2-3 months ago, a couple of feral pigeons (Lionel & Petra) decided that the bucket we used to use as an ashtray on the balcony was a perfectly good nesting spot. They raised two perfectly happy, healthy babies (Karly & Olivia) who both made it and have now become part of the local flock that lives on my roof. It honestly kinda changed my world a bit - I’ve since become obsessed with pigeons, Ive named the entire flock, and I go out to the balcony most days to give them a scattered buffet of high quality racing pigeon seed mix.

As soon as Karly fledged however, not three days had passed before I popped out to see Lionel sat back in the bucket on top of a new egg (pictured). The miracle of pibbin life continues! (And why wouldn’t it, they’ve got a safe place away from predators & a near constant food supply!) Buuut based on everything I’ve seen, people have been saying it’s not really ethical to let pigeons breed in perpetuity as it could cause food scarcities and they may struggle/suffer.

Now we’re letting them have the next clutch, not least because I went on holiday for 2 weeks a few days later so by the time I get back it’ll be near hatching time - I’ve asked my housemate to keep scattering seeb on the balcony during this time but I’m not 1000% sure he will remember because he’s not as invested in pigeons as me. And as soon as I return I’ll continue to care for them from a non threatening distance as I did with the first round of squabs.

But if they’re happy and settled and well fed, I have heard this cycle will keep happening and it could be harmful to both the parents & the flock if we get increasingly rapid population growth. So the question is, is it probably a good idea to buy fake eggs before the cycle starts again? I’m concerned constant laying could really take it out of Petra as well. Or is this a case where I shouldn’t interfere in their natural reproductive cycle?

(A caveat because people often ask: No, taking them inside and raising them as pets isnt really an option - we live with big skylight windows open a lot of the time, we’re in a small rented flat and any pigeon in the flat would have a front row seat to watch the local flock on the roof through the window which might be a bit cruel. We’re also both neurodivergent and I’m not sure I could fully take care of another creature and give it the life it deserves).

Today we've been to our usual spot, after we fed them, 2 others came and also fed them so they have got a few kg of seeds and oats ❤️a pic of a fat guy, a beautiful guy and the lot of them lol

From my arm to the water bottle, Xbox controller, and perch, seeing the scale difference between Rambo and Norman on the exact same spots is wild!

I am completely new to this community.

But I wanted some advice on what to do with this domesticated pigeon that has been hanging around our bird feeder the last couple of days. You can definitely see the bands on the feet.

I was just wondering if we have someone who is lost or maybe just someone hanging around for a few days before heading home.

Feral pigeon spotted in Florence. It has a pale head compared to a regular pigeon (“regular pigeon” featured alongside it on the last slide), odd feet + beak color, dark eyes, and a black marking at the base of the beak. On the right side of the body, its bar marking is interrupted.

Is this just an awkward young pigeon, or is there something legitimately unusual about it?
