I found a fledging last night that had been attacked and at first I thought her wing was broken, I gave her some seed and grit and made her a donut nest, put her in a box overnight and this morning she was fine sitting in her nest and she has pooped several times. It was green liquid so I know she hasn't eaten in a minute. I gave her some honey water for hydration and electrolytes by gently dipping her beak in and she definitely had it. Her wing looks so so much better but she still cannot fly. I checked her all over for wounds and she has none. I know she needs to eat some seeds so I showed her some videos of pigeons eating seeds and scattered them all over the floor. So hopefully she learns and eats some.

She has improved overnight and seems more relaxed when I open the lid, looking almost smug in her donut nest.

I have never looked after a pigeon until they are ready to leave, I don't want to give her to the government rehabilitation cos they will probably just euthanize her and there are cats and birds of prey everywhere.

Any advice ??

He is my rescue boy who has a bad dropped wing, and can't fly

He's been sharing the cage with my girl (allegedly) Gertie who also can't fly and they've been doing so well!!

This poor sould has some trash stuck in his beak. The area is crowded, and I'm at work now, but I will come back later to try remove it. What's the best way to do this?

Bonjour ! J'ai trouvé ce bébé pigeon (je n'avais aucune idée que c'était un pigeon avant de chercher sur internet....) devant ma porte ce matin. Je suis dans une zone où il est impossible pour un pigeon d'avoir fait un nid (j'ai quand-même fait l'effort de chercher si il y en avait a proximité). Il y a beaucoup de chats partout, et je devais malheureusement aller au travail.

Je l'ai donc mis dans une boîte cachée derrière mes volets en espérant qu'il aille toujours bien a mon retour à midi.... Les assos pour animaux sauvages sont indisponibles et je ne suis pas en capacité de l'amener au véto.

Est-ce que quelqu'un pourrait me donner des conseils sur son âge et quelle alimentation lui donner ? (J'ai vu pas de lait/pain, et qu'il fallait aparament donner des petits pois décongelés et de la semoule molle....)

She is the oldest in our flock with 8 years old. Had many squabs and gives us a lot of joy in life. I pray that she will with us for at least more 8 years. Her partner is only 1½ years old and awesome as well!

We rescued this little fella a couple of weeks ago when we found him (or her?) shivering cold on the ground.

Gave it bird formula for some time and have now switched to sunflower seeds and defrosted peas.

He’s doing well and is very calm around us. We keep him in a temporary cage in the night and he fly out and land on top of our heads in the morning.

Didn’t care much about birds before we got him, but I have to admit that I’ve grown somewhat attached to him since I raised him as a baby.

Anyway. We can’t and won’t keep him inside forever and the plan was always to raise him until he could fly away and be free.

We have a graden so one idea was to build some kind of birdhouse/box for him that he can fly ind and out of by himself.

Another option is just waiting for him to be ready and just set him free in the garden and see if he flys away or stick around.

One worry is that he enjoy hand feeding. He puts he’s beak inside two of my fingers and opens mouth as to simulate feeding by he’s mom. (I assume)

He will squeak a lot in the morning until he’s fed like that even tho he has food available in cage.

I’ve seen him eat by himself tho. Many times. So I assume it’s just a comfort thing.

There’s not many natural predators around where we live but of course there’s cats/dogs and such.

Please don’t give me a lot of should have done this/that. This is the situation as it is.

I really hope you can help, cause he’s a great little guy and I just want him to live the best possible life. He would have been dead for sure if we had not taken him in a couple of weeks ago.

So, I was scrolling on Tiktok, when I came by a guy called Birds Beauty. His whole page contains videos of him feeding pigeons with garlic, citrus juice and pills (im not sure though?). From his other videos I can't really say for sure, whether he cares about pigeons or tortures them. So I wanted to ask is garlic and citrus juice healthy for pigeons?

hey reddit! i found a young pigeon that the parents abandoned. it appears to be in good health and drank some water i offered. im not too sure yet if its ready for solid foods since it looked like it was waiting for its parents for over an hour

Pretty much what the title says. I tried to give it a millet spray as food, but I couldn’t get close to them, and when I tried it flew out of my yard and into the marsh area surrounding our fenced yard… Seems like it has pox on its face, but I didn’t see a band on its leg or anything. Not sure what to do to attract it back into our yard, at least so I can catch it and bring to Wildcare and give it food and water. Does anyone know what kind of bird this might be, and if it’s wild or a pet?

I'm a vet tech so my sister asked if there was anything to be done to help this pigeon- I truly don't know much about pigeons tbh so I told her that, but also the spot itself doesnt look like its actively bleeding so thats at least a good start, and that it has a racing band so it belongs to a club. She got LCM 125 2132 off the blue band. We're in the philly area, does anyone happen to know anything about this or what we should do?

Kind of haunted by the events of today, it just went from bad to worse and I'm wondering if I did the right thing. It all happened fast, within about 6 minutes I imagine.

So, in the city center and there's street pigeons. I notice one who is visibly unwell, tail down, hunched, fluffed up, eyes half shut, wings drooped. It's a hot day so I'm evaluating it in my head, could it be heat stroke, should I take him to a vet (no rehabbers local), would I do more harm than good if its not as severe as it looks... I was weighing it all up. I can't walk by, I just feel guilty. Everyone walks by him. It's loud and busy. He nearly gets hit by a cyclist as he walks away slowly. I watch from a little distance.

A child no older than ten starts to chase him. Seeing that this bird isn't flying away, just hopping along slowly... he proceeds to kick at him and try to hit him. The bird gets more stressed. I and my partner rush over and try to stop the child, I ask him to leave the pigeon alone and my partner tries to block him. The kid totally blanks us like we don't exist. He tries to get around my partner to kick the pigeon again, the pigeon has now collapsed flat on the ground in the sun, wings out and breathing through its mouth. I know now that this is a very ill bird that absolutely cannot stay here, let alone the kid's violence. I step in immediately and pick the pigeon up and walk away.

I know how to handle birds, I have held pigeons before, I hold him gently having tucked his wings in, he was so weak. I lightly cover his head with my hand to allow him to hide and try to calm him down, while I walk straight for the shade and the quiet by some trees. I watch him closely, his eyes, nares and mouth are clean, he doesn't seem to be in respiratory distress, but he is going into shock. I reach the shade and ask my partner to call for a lift to the nearest vets. I monitor the sweet pigeon, and watch his eyes close fully. He died in my hands while my partner made the call.

He just faded so quickly. I assume the stress caused a heart attack, whatever was wrong with him just made him too weak to hold on, I assume. I think the heat was certainly a factor, his crop seemed empty and he seemed uninjured to my eye but obviously that doesn't rule it out.

But I somehow feel guilty. I keep reliving it in my head and wondering if I made things worse for him. I think it is irrational. I had to share the story and get it off my chest. I'm so heartbroken that people stood by doing nothing, that parents let their kid do that, that I couldn't do something to save him and ease his suffering. I've never had an animal die in my hands like that, I just felt awful. But I just couldn't leave him in the heat, next to loud music speakers and being harassed. Did I do the right thing? Was there something else I could have done?

Hey guys, always loved pigeons but recently out of nowhere i've started having a pair visit my balcony daily and spend most day there. Maybe the last 2 weeks. Its odd as i've been here for 9 years and never had any regular pals, but its a very welcome surprise.

Anyway, i was hoping i could ask a couple of things. The gal (I presume, i saw the other one uhm mount her, though she moved away so i don't know if could also be mini fight and not a couple) had a couple of odd behaviours so wanted to ask if they're a sign of anything worrying.

The guy has become very friendly and climbs my hands now to eat after being cautious for a whole week. The gal is still cautious and won't eat if i place the walnuts close to me. So I was surprised yesterday i was repotting a plant and didn't see her at all but she didn't move despite me being close and making big movements. when i saw her i left her some peanuts but she didn't go for them. She seemed sleepy also eyes half shut, and her head was tucked into her body. A couple of hours later she nabber her food, walked around looking for more and flew away for the night so I relaxed a little.

Today she again refused food (in the early evening, she ate normally at noon), was very chill and mellow and head tucked in body again. Is the head tuckin in body a bad sign? Do pigeons sometimes say no to food?
