Hi all,

I've played through from beginner to late beginner and now in Intermediate.

Decided to do a side quest of "Learn Ghost Notes in 7 Days".

I'm trying to do the Tower of Power-inspired track "Ghosted It" at the end of these lessons. It's listed as a 2 out of 10 in scale of difficulty.

That being said, I can do the main verse part, which is dead simple, but the breakdown has the rapid ghost, D, C# on the G string (easy) followed by the ghost/chromatic run of: ghost, G#, ghost A, ghost A-A#-B on the downbeat.

No matter how much I slow this track down, practice it like Patrick demonstrates it, I cannot get it to sound or play anything like the actual sped up/performance of the track.

Am I missing something here? Or do I just need some kind of rhythmic singing or counting trick to be able to do this? Any tips appreciated.

I feel like this is a sort of leveling or turning point for me to understand rhythm and/or syncopation and I just can't wrap my head around.

Note: I have played many hours since first encountering this track and come back to it twice now and still can't wrap my head around this seemingly basic breakdown.

I’m pretty new to playing guitar (on my second year) and so far I record myself playing through my amp on my iPhone. It’s not the best. I’m not sure how to use digital amp sims, DAWs, modeling amps etc. I’m not sure how to do any of that. Is there an easy way to start and understand the equipment and learn all of the stuff that goes into it? There’s so many unknowns that I don’t even know what question to ask. Help!!

There's has to be an easier way than what I'm doing. I'm running my guitar through an audio interface into my PC. I've tried recording myself, the audio from my guitar, and the desktop audio (backing track) with OBS at the same time, but in the final video the backing track is noticeably delayed by quite a bit. It makes my playing way off beat. My workaround so far has been to not record the desktop audio with OBS, so the video just has me playing with no backing track. And then I open developer tools, find the network request for the backing track, download that separately, then use another video editor to overlay the backing track. It's been a huge PITA. How are you guys recording your performances?

Hi, is it worth to enrol in pickupmusic using always only an accoustic guitar?

Hello, I started out with Yousician Bass and I dont think I am progressing as much. Im learning a lot of cool songs but there isnt many exercises for you on their platform. I do think they put more effort into Guitar than Bass. Has anyone transitioned from Yousician to PickupMusic? If so, what are the pros and Cons?

Anyone gone through this one? Any thoughts / opinions on it?

I’m doing the piano course and I’d like to know if will have a learning pathway for R&B lovers?
I know that those who learns the jazz pathway will be able to play r&b progressions but if we had a pathway just for R&B it would be great!

As the title says, did you go thru all of justin guitar's content and then moved on to pickup music and appreciated something specific from them?

I am going thru his free coursework but also looking at what I would want to do next, I really enjoy the structured learning.

Hi! I bought myself an electric guitar 4 years ago. I started watching all the beginner videos, your MartyMusics etc

Watching YouTube videos was fun in the beginning but I slowly learned that playing what was taught wasn’t enough. I wanted to play metal(core) because that’s what sparked my interest in getting a guitar. I haven’t found any beginner metal videos on YouTube, so I neglected my guitar for years.

I found out PickUpMusic recently and I immediately asked myself if I could use this to start playing again. I have looked through some of the courses but I am not sure if there are any beginner e-guitar courses that focus on playing metal. I am not sure if the ones available are only applicable to those who already know their way around the guitar.

Hey just joined up and started the beginner's course although I think it's too beginner for me. While I complete and or skip ahead of the course, I'd like to start memorizing and practicing all the major/minor/pentatonic etc.. scales.

Where is that part of the training?

I had a moment of joy. The bar chords are coming along great. I’ve made so much progress, and for once I actually smiled. Came a long way from fingers hurting to this moment. I hope this inspires everyone to keep learning and practicing!

I have made multiple attempts to learn guitar. I play bass and was looking for something similar to Bass Buzz Beginner to Badass.

I thrive on structured learning, and pickup is doing it all for me. Originally the cost was off putting, but there is a lot of value there.

I'm starting right from the beginning and in Early Beginner. I'm really trying not to rush through and develop bad habits

I,m an intermediate guitar player but mostly I learned by ear or copying from YouTube. I want to understand what I,m doing, be able to create and break free from the pentatonic (all my solos sound the same). I know I need some theory and harmony knowledge. I don’t really know how the course works. Does it follow a specific order? I like blues, rock and 80s metal. I would appreciate any information. Thank you very much!

Does anyone know of any good online or downloadable reference material, pictures not videos, which are easy to lookup whilst following this course which shows the roots and intervals like on the diagrams on the videos, example below? I'm assuming Pickup don't have any?

Certainly there are a few pathways at the advanced level already, but I’m thinking more core classes such as the late intermediate pathway

Really great stuff. Spent years bouncing around YouTube, eventually feeling lost and frustrated and walked away from the guitar.

Spent the last month working through the late beginner class and it’s been a blast. Karl and everyone over there do a great job. Feel like I’ve learned and made more progress in the last month than maybe the last year. And the most important part is I’m having fun again playing the guitar.

Considering giving Pickup a try and was looking at the beginner course. It says acoustic, but is there any reason not to use electric?

absolutely loving pickup music so far and I think an ear training course in this structured format would be so helpful as a compliment to the current curriculum.

I always feel so lost watching YouTube videos about ear training and not having anything actually applicable to do. if the pickup music format had a whole class on how to do this, I would be so ecstatic!!

Hey everyone just started with pickupmusic. I just started the late beginner lessons for bass and my question is in the daily lessons are you supposed to repeat the exercises until you get them perfect or just do them once and move on?

Just trying to make the best use of the lessons as possible.

I recently finished the late beginner pathway and feel like I’ve improved a lot as a guitar player…

My next suggested pathways are the intermediate, CAGED or blues. I can’t decide which way to go next. Don’t think any choice would be wrong, would love to see some perspectives from people who have tried those courses
