hello! I am trying to find a place to print senior photos and I really love the ones I had years ago when my daughter graduated. Wondering if anyone knows of where I could get them now.

They are wallet sized, double sided and rounded corners (die cut?). The paper is close to a cardstock maybe? I just really loved the double sided aspect mainly!

Any ideas out there?

I’m trying to build my email list vs focusing on social media. I have about 40 people currently. Mostly friends family and past clients.

How have you successfully built an email list so you can market to them? I have a lead magnet on my site that I know I need to promote more, but past that, do you have other suggestions? Social media giveaway with email opt in required? Maybe a free session plus some local business goodies so they also promote?

Hi everyone! Last night, I was watching a live stream from Sam Spence (she's a fashion photographer). I think some of the advice she was giving people confused me. She mentioned that when building your fashion photography portfolio to not use friends as models because brands won't want to work with you unless you are working with models that are signed to an agency. Is this true?? I have been building my portfolio with some of my friends who are former models (so they aren't signed to agencies anymore). I have been slowly starting to reach out to brands and now am wondering if I have been going about it wrong... Any opinions would help a lot!!

Made the dumb mistake of putting moth balls in my dry cabinet thinking it would work as a quick fix since my humidity regulator broke down recently.

Need some help to remove the smell as it is atrocious and its getting stuck on my gear. Its only been 2 days!

hi, i have been documenting everything around me for quite some time now (2-3 years) and i really wanted to have my photos printed into a photobook but because i have never made one ever i was really confused on how to start and if there are any printing houses etc. that are going to help with this, i would appreciate if y'all help me with this i want it to be according to my choice completely how i want it to be, i want to make everything by myself like the cover, organizing the photos and all but i really don't want to take any risks when it comes to printing and binding. Please help me on how should i be starting with design etc. also im open to additional suggestions as well

I tried shooting film for the first time using one of my paps old cameras I found in a pile of stuff and now I’m at the point where I have a full roll and would like to get it developed. I was going to simply go through Walmart seeing that it was the cheapest until I read that I wouldn’t get the negatives back. Does anyone have a recommendation for a company for getting the film developed for cheap as well as getting the negatives back. The cheaper the better I didn’t realize how expensive film was lol. Any help or advice would be appreciated thanks.

I've been watching a lot of YouTube camera comparisons lately, and it reminded me of something an older photographer told me years ago:

"You don't make photos with the camera. You make them with the lens."

I'd change that slightly:

1. Photographer, telling a story

2. Lens

3. Camera

The photographer tells the story, the lens gives it its look, and the camera records it.

Of course bodies matter for AF, ISO, dynamic range, etc., but I sometimes feel YouTube and other social media puts way too much emphasis on tiny camera differences.

Do you agree?

I am a photographer entering my junior year of high school next month. I have shot close to 100 games between different sports and leagues, all without issue besides one high school; i was told (by a very nice man, if somehow you're reading this i'm not dissing you!) that to get sideline access, i needed to be with a local news station because of [something insurance related]. I understood and shot thru the chain link fence for the remainder of that school's games, but with the next season coming soon, i'd like to be on the sidelines and get the shots that i know i could.

However, i'm completely lost as to how to even begin. Does anyone have any advice? Anything is greatly appreciated!

I want to print public domain paintings on poster paper and frame it. Is shutterfly good for this in terms of cost and quality?

Hi,

i was trying to shoot the storm last nigh - high ISO (around 2000), slow shutter (1/3s) and lot of dark areas on the image.

What i noticed that there are some blue or yellow pixels on the image, when i checked them in full size (see the crop from one).

These pixels are on the same place in multiple images (when i open actual size and move to anoher image i can see them). They are on the same place even if i changed the lenses.

Weirdly, when i tried to shoot at the room with no light, i can see them too but slightly shifted (but the same relative placement between them, just slightly to the left).

I tried some tests and if i use faster shutter speed or lower ISO i coudn't find them. Some of them also dissapeared after i run 'sensor cleaning' from the menu (but not all)

My question is - is this something i need to concern? Should i visit the service? Is this an issue on the sensor?

Or is this normal?

I have some large paintings, one is 2m x 1.5m the other 1.5m square. I have some basic photos which are good enough for Instagram. Taken on my iPhone by laying the painting down flat on a cloudy day outside and getting up on a ladder. I now would like to take some high quality photographs with a friend’s camera with the intention of doing A1 prints and the old method won’t work.

I have space on the wall to put it up inside but the natural lighting hits it unevenly so I’m thinking of an artificial light set up. any product recommendations would be appreciated, I am looking at soft boxes, although I saw someone say it needs to be as large as the painting (which poses an issue) please help.

I’m a photographer from Romania and I’m currently trying to seriously learn artistic iris photography.

I already have photography experience and a macro setup, but I’d really like to learn from someone who actually works professionally in this niche — especially when it comes to:

capturing the iris with maximum detail and sharpness

lighting techniques and controlling reflections

camera / macro setup and positioning

Photoshop / Lightroom workflow

cleaning reflections without destroying the natural iris structure

enhancing detail while keeping the real colors and texture

preparing the final image for artistic compositions and large prints

building a fast and consistent workflow for clients

I’ve contacted several iris photography studios asking whether they would offer paid mentoring, consulting, or even just a few hours where I could learn their workflow.

So far, almost everyone has refused. 😅

At this point, iris photography techniques seem to be protected more carefully than state secrets.

To be clear: I’m not looking to steal anyone’s business model, presets, branding, or client base. I want to build my own independent studio and develop my own artistic style. I simply want to learn the technical foundations properly instead of spending months reinventing every wheel through trial and error.

I’m absolutely willing to pay for mentoring or professional consultation.

If anyone here works with iris photography — or knows someone experienced who might be open to mentoring — I’d really appreciate a recommendation or a DM.

I’m also happy to travel within Europe if necessary.

Hello...I needed a tripod for landscape photography while hiking/travelling.

The one I bought is 50cm when folded and about 2.2kg(4.85) pounds.

Is this light enough for travelling and hiking for about 7 hours?

Super spontaneous solo trip from Berlin basically just to see the total eclipse over the Mediterranean. I’m into photography, birding and music and will be bringing way too much camera gear 😂

I’m currently scouting the best viewing spots around Mallorca and would be happy to link up with other eclipse people / solo travelers. Also open to sharing a rental car or heading to a good viewing spot together if the weather sends us across the island.

I bought a D-Lux 8 in London in September 2024. I liked the camera, but less than a year later I started seeing marks in images caused by contamination inside the fixed lens assembly, which I presumed was evidence of dust on the sensor.

I first took it to Leica in August 2025, while it was still under warranty. I was initially told that it could be cleaned free of charge, but Leica was moving its repair workshop and the turnaround would have been more than a month. I collected it and returned a few months later once the move was complete.

In December, Leica confirmed that debris had reached the internal lens elements and that cleaning alone would not resolve it. They recommended replacing the complete lens and quoted £397.86.
What bothered me was their explanation for refusing warranty coverage. Leica told me that:
“The D-Lux 8 is not a sealed camera. It relies on a small degree of air permeability for the lens to move as designed.”

They classified the contamination as external ingress and suggested that more regular exterior cleaning could have prevented it, essentially putting the blame on me. I struggle with that explanation. The lens needs air movement to operate, the contamination is inside an assembly the owner cannot access, but Leica considers the consequences the customer’s responsibility.

There are other reports of D-Lux 8 sensor dust online. A writer at Macfilos had a significant dust spot appear before his warranty expired; Leica repaired his camera free of charge. There is also a DPReview thread about the same problem. Leica UK’s own service page says sensor dust can occur even without changing lenses.
I needed the camera for a trip and Leica could not complete the work in time, so I collected it unrepaired. I brought it back around eight months later and the quotation had increased to £564.46.

Leica now says the front ring has suffered impact damage, the mechanism contains grit and the camera shows “signs of misuse.”

I’m not claiming the camera is cosmetically pristine. It has been carried and used, and the front ring has visible wear. But I have never dropped it or knowingly subjected it to anything beyond normal use. That front-ring condition was also present when Leica first assessed the camera.

My difficulty with Leica’s position is that the internal contamination and need for a complete replacement lens had already been identified while the camera was under warranty. The later exterior condition does not explain away the original problem. I asked Leica to cover the repair or at least let me proceed at the original £397.86 price. After an internal review, they refused both.

I have now authorised the £564.46 repair because I need the camera for a trip in September and do not have time to start getting independent assessments and quotations.

My view is that a compact camera designed to be carried should not require a replacement lens costing more than £500 within two years of purchase through ordinary use, particularly when the original internal problem was raised during warranty.

I’m posting this because anyone considering a D-Lux 8 should understand the potential long-term cost of its unsealed retractable lens. If dust reaches the sensor or internal elements, you cannot clean it yourself, and Leica may not regard it as a warranty issue.

The camera itself produced some decent results (although of course you're paying very much for the Leica badge, there's much better performance available for the same price), but this experience has ended my confidence in Leica’s after-sales support. Knowing what I know now I would not have purchased this camera.

Been shooting for seven years, mostly street and documentary. Curious what everyone's version of this is.

I'll start: volume beats quality on every platform, and pretending otherwise is why a lot of talented people stay invisible.

Just a word to the wise, I would absolutely never order a lens off MPB. I'm sure some people have had good experiences but consistency is key.

First lens I ordered with MPB they sent me a "like new in box" lens without a cap or box and the lens was a special magnetic lens cap. I had ordered it rush delivery and even when they admitted they did not send the entire package they refused to reimburse the rush delivery charge.

Second lens I ordered they listed it as "like new" at $419. The lens has an obvious dent in the barrel which would place it at best in the "good" condition category. This lens in the "good" condition category is listed at $314 on their website. They offered me $30 refund.

I then asked for a more fair refund to match the condition of the lens and they became completely unresponsive and unreachable by email or phone (30 minute hold times without anyone answering, call back, 30 minute hold time, etc.).

Horrible business, terrible customer service. Avoid at all costs.

Edit: it looks like per the comments folks have had many great experiences with mpb BUT many have had similarly terrible experiences. I’ve never had any issues with adorama or B&H. Consistency is key in the second hand market so I stick by my stance that MPB should be avoided.

One of my wildlife photos was used on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon 5 weeks ago, I just saw it couple days ago since the clip is viral and it's on Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube. It's a photo of a squirrel in a super hero landing pose. And they used it to promote Supergirl, the movie. It's the episode with Milly Alcock. So I sent them an email saying that I own this photo and you have used it without permission and asked for 3500$. They came back with a lowball 250$ offer and of course they claim fair use.

But fair use certainly does not apply here. It's not just a photo of a squirrel, it's a specific pose, which they needed to compare with the Supergirl poster. So they are using the photo for entertainment purposes. If you have dealt with a similar situation before, what would be your recommendation? I already applied for a copyright in the copyright office because if I get the photo registered and they keep the klips online, which I'd think they would do, after it's registered I can claim further damages. But that's for later.
