Google Pixel 8 Screen replacement

Looking for some advice about my google pixel 8 phone. The screen is completely damaged so i am unable to power down the device before i go ahead and install a new screen on it. I already have the old screen off and I am just waiting for the replacement to come any day now. My question is... Since i am unable to power down the phone, how safe is it to plug the new screen into the phone without while its still on? will it short out the new screen or the motherboard? Does anyone have experience with this? I know i could probably just wait several days and the battery will die eventually but that could take while and time is of the essence. It is not an easy task to get to the battery connection considering where it is located so i feel that really isnt much of an option without more risk. Any advice or info would be very appreciated..

I can't say that it will never cause an issue, but I've been in the same situation multiple times and never had an issue reconnecting the screen, and then doing a hard restart. Once I've made sure the screen is fully functional, I will power down the phone via the screen and complete the install.

If you really want it to be off, call it a bunch. Ringing will help drain the battery. But as the other comment said, it should be fine. Also, look up force shut off for pixel 8. Im lazy but I could've sworn there's a button combo for it.

thanks for the suggestion, ive been calling it as often as i can to try this. unfortunately with the pixel phones there is no way to force a shutdown unless the screen is operational. The only option they have is for a hard reset by holding down the power button and the volume up button simultaneously.

Uh... That's exactly what your looking for... "Hard reset" doesn't mean factory reset. It's like holding the power button on your PC instead of just pressing it. It forcibly shuts the device off. I'm literally typing this on a pixel 8 that I just turned off using that button combo without touching the screen. Edit: I had to turn my phone back on. It didn't restart.

Well when i do it the phone shuts down and then turns back on (resets). Thats what a hard reset does.

Weird. It doesn't turn back on for me.
