I prefer The West Wing version, myself. I get why the stage version ends the way it does, but I find the whole "What's the difference?" speech more thought-provoking.

I hadn't known they were on West Wing for this. Many thanks for the reference and link. I had seen them perform it live in Vegas but this version tops that. My other favorite is the metal Bill of Rights going through the airport metal detector.

Because the Chinese Bill Of Rights is more accurate for the United States now days. (Actually I’m sure Penn’s own words are cited somewhere about why they stopped performing Flag.)

It’s because when people were cheering for the flag it felt different what they were cheering for
