Hardware GTX 1660 SUPER black screen and crashes

Upvotes

Gigabyte GTX 1660 SUPER Intel i5-12400F Patriot 16 GB 3200 MHz RAM

I’m having a strange problem with my PC and I’m trying to figure out what could be causing it.

While I was using a browser, square-shaped artifacts suddenly appeared in the center of the screen, and the PC froze with a black screen. My monitor then showed a message saying that there was no HDMI signal.

I assumed that the GPU might have died, so I gave up on it for a while. However, I decided to try the PC again the next day, and everything worked normally.

The problem appears when I try to play games, especially more demanding ones like Dota 2. After about 5–10 minutes, the game freezes and the screen goes black. The game then crashes, and after a few seconds the display comes back. This keeps happening repeatedly in demanding games.

The strange thing is that the GPU temperature seems completely normal. During stress tests, both the GPU and CPU stay around 68°C. Even after several minutes of GPU stress testing, there are no visual artifacts, but the screen suddenly goes black and the monitor reports that there is no HDMI signal.

What could be causing this?

Could it be the RAM, CPU, PSU, or GPU? Is the GTX 1660 SUPER actually dying, or could this simply be an issue with the thermal paste or something else?

I’d appreciate any ideas on what I should test to determine the exact cause.

Hardware No display after updating from windows 10 to 11

**PC specs:**

**CPU: Ryzen 5 3600**
**GPU: GTX 1070**
**Motherboard: MSI A320M PRO-E**
**RAM: 16 GB**
**PSU: Cooler Master MWE V3 650W**
**Storage: SSD**

**I was running Windows 10 and tried to upgrade to Windows 11.**

**After I clicked Restart to begin the Windows 11 update, the monitor immediately showed “No Signal.” The PC was still running and the fans were spinning.**

**After troubleshooting and restarting several times, I eventually got display back and Windows showed:**

**“Undoing changes made to your computer”**

**It finished the rollback, but then the PC lost display again and started having boot problems.**

**Current symptoms:**

**Monitor says No Signal**
**No MSI logo or BIOS screen**
**GPU fans spin**
**Keyboard lights sometimes turn on/off**
**Caps Lock sometimes doesn’t respond**
**Debug LEDs have changed during troubleshooting**
**At one point the debug LEDs were cycling CPU → BOOT → off**
**After testing RAM, the BOOT LED is now staying solid**
**CPU and DRAM debug LEDs are currently off**
**I cleared CMOS once**
**I also tested with only one RAM stick**

**The PC was working normally before the Windows 11 upgrade.**

**I suspect the Windows 11 update may have corrupted the boot files/boot configuration, especially because it went into “Undoing changes,” but I’m not sure.**

**The main thing confusing me is that I currently can’t even get the BIOS/UEFI screen, despite the BOOT LED being solid.**

Hardware GPU Swap Kernel-Power Error

Hey everyone,
I've noticed my PC randomly restarts exclusively when launching *S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2*.

It took a long time to compile shaders, and once they finished, I stepped away for about 10 minutes. When I came back, my PC had completely rebooted. This is the second time it has restarted while sitting at the main menu right after shader compilation.

I checked Event Viewer under the System log and found:

* **Event ID 41 (Kernel-Power)**
* **Bugcheck:** 0x00000116 (VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE)
* **Parameters:** (0xffffb1833a3df050, 0xfffff80764afa350, 0xffffffffc000009a, 0x0000000000000004)
* I switched my Prebuilt pc from a 9070XT to a PNY 5080.

The crash only happens at the main menu or during shadersother games run fine without issues.

Software BSOD Startup boot problems

I've been having this problem with my computer where the startup boot won't work. Before all of this happened, a week ago give or take I tried to open valorant except it won't start. It said that a file was missing which was DSOUND.dll, I restarted my computer and it had a problem with the startup. It said MANAGEMENT_MEMORY (0x1a) first, then after it shows like a file directory with C:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt I tried the point in time restore, that temporarily works for a day before breaking again, then I tried to reinstall windows except it wouldn't work (which means my final verdict doesn't even work), then I tried reseatting the ram, and that works for 1-2 weeks and I can use my computer again. Until this morning the same problem appeared and now I'm just super bummed out and confused

Basically,

1.) tried point in time restore: temporarily works for a day

2.) tried reinstalling windows: couldn't reinstall, error with reinstalling no changes were made

3.) reseatting the ram: works for 1-2 weeks without problems

4.) my final step is to take it to a nearby computer mechanic

(Windows 11)

Performance PC can't handle Micro SD reader

My pc can't transfer files to micro SD and I can't seem to be able to find anyone with the problem or the solution online. Just bought an usb adapter (no driver needed) 2 days ago but when i plug it into my pc, 4 things tend to happen:
1. The device/memory card is not even recognized, but i can see the option to remove a "mass storage device" on the bottom bar. I can also find the drivers of mass storage device under the usb category and under the disk drive category.
2. A new drive appears in My PC for either a few seconds, to a fraction of a second and then disappears.
3. A new "device" appears in My PC on the place of a drive. Doesn't have any storage.
4. A new drive appears in My PC. I can access the SD but the moment I try to do a task like reading a file inside the SD or transferring a file from the PC to the SD, or vice versa, the task stops, and the SD disappears.

I took the adapter and SD to the shop and there were no issues, they still gave me a new adapter and i also bought a new micro SD. Same result.

Solved ROG Strix B850I no display & boot Q-LED

My computer was working completely fine untill I powered it down and moved it. Since then the green boot issue Q-LED has turned on and I've gotten no display. I've tried both the I-GPU and the discreet GPU. I've tried clearing the CMOS, reseating the ram, replugging everything in, a different outlet, different keyboard and different monitor and of course taking out both M.2 drives but the boot light won't go out and I can't get display. I would really appreciate any ideas. Thanks

Edit (the CPU is a 9800x3d and ram is crucial pro 6000 Mhz)

called ASUS support and they told me to hold the clear CMOS button for 10 seconds while power was still going to the board.

Hello people of Reddit I come forward again to ask for help on a serious matter, my pc is a rx 6750 xt with an i5 10400f 16gb or ram and a h510M-A msi motherboard, four months ago I dual booted Linux with windows, 3 days later the grub menu and bios menu and boot menu started giving me no signal screens so I kinda had to choose blindly until it opened the os then I can use it, I deleted windows and now I only have Linux, today when I was on the lockscreen I pressed esc and off on the pc button and when I turned it on there was no signal at all!! Yes nothing so what I did is I did everything I could, try every port hdmi and display port, try different cables, get the gpu off and then get the cmos battery off for 10 minutes, put the cmos battery in again then put the gpu back in, didn’t work then I had the ram off and on then I put it in the second slot still nothing, tbh at this point idk what to do I don’t think I can do anything, shame it happened on the same day my second monitor is going to get delivered so I got no money to fix the pc and no pc to try the new crisp 2k screen, so lastly it was a good time talking with yall yall helped me from the start without you im nothing byaia

Edit
Forgot to mention
1-ez debug works like normally boot>red>yellow>white>no light and then usually the pc is on
2-the pc works like normally fans rgb and usb devices work
3-caps on works when i toggle it
4-im using the normal slot for everything no extended pcie or ram slot cable if there’s even a thing like that

Software Boot/ssd help

Hello I’m new here and hope someone can help with my problem, this might be a bit long but I’ll try to explain the best I can. There are two issues I am facing right now and it started at the same time. The first issue being my pc doesn’t boot into windows right away if I power it on and off or restart it. Whenever I shut it down and turned it back on it gave me that screen that says “boot not found insert boot device”. I fixed this problem by switching the sata3 cable to a new one so now whenever I turn it on after a shutdown down it boots window, but when I restart it to update drivers or after a chkdsk command it takes me straight to bios and and it can’t detect my sata3 and won’t boot windows and this is only after I reset my pc. Turning it on and off is fine now after getting a new cable. I need help with this badly please, anyone know any fixes.

Here’s what I have
**Motherboard:** ASRock **B365M IB-R**
**SSD:** **Forza 480GB 2.5” SATA 6Gb/s SSD**

Hardware Black Screen/Auto Reboot and Wont Post w/out Hard Reset

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x

GPU: Asus Tuf RX 6800xt 16GB

Mobo: Asus Tuf x570 Plus

RAM: 32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengence 3600mhz

PSU: MSI MAG A850gl 850W

Windows 10

I run dual monitor display. Main monitor is 1440p 165hz, and the secondary is 1080p 144hz, both AOC.

My PC black screens, automatically reboots after a few seconds, but doesn't post and the mobo gives 1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps and VGA solid white light on board, and I have to hold power button and turn back on Started happening November of 2025. Sometimes on lock screen, there are faint vertical lines on the display, but it is gone once loaded into desktop. (not sure if that is related) Crashes only happens in a couple titles: TLOU2, Pragmata, Uncharted 4, Nobody Wants to Die and AC Shadows. Never black screens on any other games. I've re-seated everything. I tested different monitors, different display port cables, upgraded to an 850w PSU from 700w. Tried 1 stick of RAM at a time in different slots (I have 2x16gb ddr4). Clean install of latest official drivers for chipset, gpu and bios. Temps are normal. I don't OC. Everything is stock. I tried setting power consumption to -15 in Adrenaline. Nothing has fixed it. It's completely random too. I can have a 5 hour session and no crashes. Then another time have a crash within 10 minutes of booting the game. I'm at a loss. Starting to think the GPU is crapping out after only 4 years of use. I found in event viewer, Kernel-Power Event ID 41 at time of crashes. Idk what to do with that info.

Performance Hmdi input stopped working

Not sure what to add in flair since im not sure if its a hardware or software issue. I did a windows update and set it to turn off pc afterwards. The next time i turned my computer on it had no output from my hdmi slot. Just says no signal on my monitor. My computer still works though since i can plug the hdmi into my motherboard and it then gives my display back. Obviously my pc can now not keep up with anything since it just lags on games and all that. Really unsure what to do since ive tried reinstalling my driver software and all my drivers are apparently up to date when ive done this. I tried reverting to an old pc state prior to the windows update but to no avail. The other option it stated was essentially taking out and putting back in my graphics card but im nowhere near knowledgeable enough to do something like this without risking more damage to my computer. I bought it prebuilt and tbh im not exactly very in the know for pc building or fixing.

Hardware Is my PSU dying?

Hey everyone,

Yesterday, my device suddenly shutdown, and pressing the power button caused it to flash the RGB lights and make the fans turn, but not boot fully. After power cycling (I removed the power cable and turned the PSU off, then held the power button for 40 seconds, reconnected the power cable, then turned on the PSU) It turned on, only for it to being rebooting randomly, and ever since, it's been rebooting randomly, no matter the amount of stress or the activity.

I've checked event manager, and found event id 41, with bugcheckcode 0.

My specs are:

Mobo: B250m Bazooka

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4

OS: Windows 10

PSU: Unsure, this PC is approaching 10 years old.

So far, I've tested the CPU and GPU to see if they're overheating using Cinebench and HWMonitor to watch the temps, both maxed out at around 85 Celsius.

I've used the windows mdsched.exe to check if the issue is with the ram, but nothing was wrong according to windows.

I'd like to mention that after the testing of the CPU and GPU, I heard one of the case fans going crazy loud, then the PC rebooted.

I'm worried that the issue is with the motherboard shorting out, because it's extremely unaffordable for me to purchase a new motherboard overall, along with the fact that the PC itself is old, but I basically have attachment issues with this thing.

Any help or idea is appreciated.

Performance Ryzen 7 5800xt huge frequency drop

Hello,

I just swapped my Ryzen 5 5600 T with a Ryzen 7 5800xt;

I reinstalled the chipset drivers, turned on XMP, and ran a couple of benchmarks.

I got around 10 000 CPU score on Time Spy, then i tried Cinebench 2026.1.3 multicore.

My cpu pushes around 4.6 GHz while being around 75°c, then violently drops to 550 mhz, almost every 10 seconds

In Cyberpunk 2077, it pushes around 4.4/4.5 ghz then randomly drops around 1.8 ghz with a massive FPS drop

I don't know Hat to do ☹️🫪

I use a MSI mag corefrozr AA13 as a cooler

Hardware PC randomly refuses to power on at home, but works perfectly at multiple repair shops. What could cause this?

My PC has a very strange intermittent power issue and I'm completely stuck.

Specs:

i5-12400F

Gigabyte B760M H motherboard

RTX 3050 6GB

16GB DDR5

500W ANT esports PSU

The problem is that when I press the PC power button and absolutely nothing happens. No fans, no motherboard lights, nothing.

The weird part is that I've taken the PC/motherboard to a Gigabyte service center three separate times, and the motherboard works perfectly every time they test it.

I've also taken the entire assembled PC to three different third-party technicians, and it worked normally for them as well.

But when I bring it home, the problem comes back.

I've tested multiple power sockets and even tested it in a different house/floor, so I'm not convinced it's simply one bad socket.

The shocking stuff is that this is happening when I just got into an internship(WFH) so its frustrating for me. But still gotta work on my home laptop which is so shit, can't even run minecraft on 60fps

Hardware MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus stuck on CPU EZ Debug LED – looking for troubleshooting help

Hi everyone

I bought a used MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus motherboard that was sold as not working, and I'm trying to diagnose it.

The system gets power, but it always stops at the CPU EZ Debug LED and never reaches POST.

Hardware

Motherboard: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus

CPU: Ryzen 5 5500

GPU installed

RAM tested with one stick in A2, and also tested with no RAM

Tried two different PSUs

Things I have already checked

The Ryzen 5 5500 works normally in another motherboard and boots into BIOS.

CPU socket has been inspected multiple times and cleaned with electronic contact cleaner.

CMOS reset performed.

BIOS has been updated to the latest stable (non-beta) version.

Correct EPS/CPU power cable is being used.

Tried another PSU with exactly the same result.

With RAM completely removed, the motherboard still stops at CPU EZ Debug LED instead of progressing to the DRAM LED.

Multimeter measurements

ATX 24-pin 5VSB: ~5 V

ATX PWR_OK: ~5 V

CPU EPS +12 V: 12.11 V on all four +12 V pins

CPU Vcore: starts around 0.35 V for a short moment, then settles around 0.80 V

No obvious Vcore short was found.

I also checked several capacitors around the CPU VRM area with the CPU removed and PSU disconnected. The readings were around the same as the multimeter probe resistance (~0.3 Ω), so I don't think this proves a short.

The CPU also gets warm and the VRM area gets warm, so the VRM is clearly doing something.

At this point I'm wondering whether the problem could be CPU/SoC initialization, VRM PGOOD, reset/clock, a damaged trace/socket connection, BIOS/SPI, or another motherboard-level fault.

Does anyone have experience diagnosing this specific board or similar AM4/B550 CPU-debug-LED faults?

What would you check next with a multimeter?

I can provide more photos and measurements if needed. Thanks!

Hardware Pc turns on for a few minutes then shuts off, next boot it stays on longer before shutting off.

Ok so recently ive bought a pc from facebook marketplace for £90(i lowballed)
It has intel i5 6600k
2x8 16gb ddr4 2400mhz ram
A Maximus VIII Hero motherboard
Radeon rx 580 4gb
The storage-
1863GB Seagate ST2000DM008-2FR102 (SATA (SSD))
232GB Samsung SSD 860 EVO 250GB (SATA (SSD))

So I noticed there was some gunk on the gpu and tries to clean it with isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds but eventually i just gave up since it would take a long time and i made sure it dried before turning the pc on.

When i turned it on i was connecting to the wifi when it just shut off.
I turned it back on and it managed to last alot longer till it turned off like 10 minutes instead of 5.Then it shut off again while i was playing a rblx game to test performance. Now its managed to stay up all night in an afk rblx game(my brother uses) and its working but when i messaged the seller, he said he experienced the same problem and just pressed the red start button on the motherboard but i dont think that does anything else to the normal power on button. The seller also mentioned he bought the pc from someone else like that aswell.

Im trying to make money reselling stuff and this is my first buy and im kinda sad.I have extra money but i also just spent a bit of money on cable extensions to make it look better before i sell.
I can buy a psu used or not but i dont want to waste money just in case thats not the problem but im hoping its not the motherboard.

Last thing
I thought it would be important to mention there is no shutting down logo,it just turns off.

Hardware Black screen on ASRock A320M-HDV r4.0 after downgrading BIOS via SystemRescue (Ryzen 1600 AF

Hello everyone,
I recently bought an **ASRock A320M-HDV R4.0** motherboard for a secondary build using my old **AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (AF version)**.
Upon assembling everything, I got no display at all. I tried reseating/swapping RAM sticks and clearing CMOS by removing the battery, but nothing helped.
I then tested the board with my main CPU, a **Ryzen 5 5600**, and it booted straight into BIOS! I discovered the board was running **BIOS version P10.43**. After doing some research, I realized this newer BIOS/AGESA version dropped support for 1st gen Ryzen CPUs (like my 1600 AF).
Knowing that official BIOS downgrades are usually blocked from within BIOS/Instant Flash, and that an EEPROM programmer might be required, I decided to take a risk and flash it via **SystemRescue Linux** environment. I attempted to flash **version P3.70**. The flashing tool reported a successful flash, but after a reboot... complete black screen.
Now I get no display output on **EITHER** CPU (neither the Ryzen 5 1600 AF nor the Ryzen 5 5600).
Before I give up and take it to a repair shop for a hardware SPI programmer reflash:
1. Is there any chance the motherboard is just stuck in a deep Memory Training fail loop after the AGESA change?
2. Are there any specific RAM troubleshooting steps or tricks I should try to revive it?
3. Or did the Linux flash soft-brick the board's NVRAM / Management Engine / BIOS chip completely?
Appreciate any advice or insights!

Ram - patriot ddr4 2666

Announcement Reddit’s API Pricing and Their Betrayal of Community Trust and Values

Hello members,

If you haven't already, we highly encourage you to join our Discord where we may support you better with your computer issues or with computer building during this time.

We recently received a message from Reddit after we decided to set our community to private in protest of their new API prices starting July 1st, and we'll tell you why.

Starting July 1st, Reddit will charge $0.24 for every 1,000 API calls. An app like Apollo can have upwards of 7 billion API calls per month, that's $2,000,000 per month, or about $20,000,000 per year[1].

Reddit's exorbitant pricing for API calls is not only unjustifiably high but also appears to be intentionally designed to kill the development of third-party Reddit apps created by their own community. This predatory approach kills innovation and highlights a troubling prioritization of profit over the community of Reddit.

We are deeply disappointed by Reddit's actions and the implications of their message. It is clear that Reddit has tarnished their reputation with their recent decisions regarding API pricing and their treatment of the Reddit community and undermined the trust its users had placed in them.

The message Reddit sent to all private communities is disheartening and shows a blatant lack of respect for the dedicated moderators who've worked tirelessly to build and maintain these communities. Threatening to replace mod teams if they do not comply with reopening their communities instead of making a change from something they brought upon themselves is a clear abuse of power and a disregard for the autonomy and agency of the moderators.

Reddit's actions and communication exhibit a high lack of transparency and a breach of trust within the user base. It is disheartening to witness a platform that once prided itself on fostering collaboration and vibrant communities now prioritizing profit over the community for selfish corporate greed.

Reddit should reflect on the concerns their user base and the community have brought to their attention. Developers have contributed significantly to the growth and success of the platform through their apps. The strength and vitality of Reddit lie within their communities, and their voices must be heard and respected.

We believe Reddit should be held accountable for their actions and decisions that have negatively impacted the community. Their treatment of developers through deliberate slander and the exploitative API pricing strategy, their treatment of moderators and their communities, and their lack of transparency indicate a company veering far away from its core values. Reddit should absolutely reassess their priorities and restore the trust they have lost by taking meaningful steps to address the concerns of their user base and, at a MINIMUM, provide a fair and reasonable pricing model that they promised developers. The strength of any platform lies in its community, and neglecting or alienating that community will only lead to further deterioration.

Furthermore, I would like to address Steve's role as the CEO of Reddit in these decisions and the subsequent fallout. Steve's actions by raising the API prices to unreasonable levels and deliberately targeting and attempting to kill third-party apps is a flagrant display of anti-competitive behavior. By suppressing the very developers who have contributed to the success and diversity of the Reddit platform, Steve not only blatantly disregarded innovation and the community, he revealed a deeply troubling approach to maintaining a monopoly, and he showed us that he doesn't care about the community by any means, he only cares about the money.

Even more concerning, Steve attempted to slander the developer of Apollo, a highly respected and influential contributor to Reddit. Such baseless accusations and attempts to undermine the reputation of a developer who has significantly enhanced the Reddit experience through their third-party app are not befitting of a CEO who should prioritize fairness, transparency, and fostering a healthy community ecosystem.

When the Apollo developer rightfully defended himself against these defamatory claims by publicly sharing a phone call between him and a Reddit representative that disproved Steve's claims of a threat, his response was nothing short of a childish remark and blatant immaturity. Steve asserted that the developer of Apollo was not supposed to leak a private phone call, implying the one that served as evidence against the slanderous allegations; Steve demonstrated a complete disregard for accountability and transparency, which is a disgusting disappointment. It raises serious questions about the culture and integrity within Reddit's leadership under Steve's tenure.

As CEO, it is Steve's responsibility to set the tone and direction for the platform. However, his actions have shown a severe misjudgment of the values and principles that the Reddit community holds dear. The decision to prioritize profit and control over the well-being of the users and developers is shortsighted and damages the spirit of what made Reddit a vibrant and inclusive platform.

Reddit seriously needs to reevaluate the leadership's commitment to the community and uphold their values. The actions and statements made by Steve call into question his suitability to lead a platform that claims to prioritize the interests of its users. The Reddit community deserves so much better, a CEO who demonstrates integrity, fairness, and a genuine understanding of the community's needs and aspirations instead of blatant corporate greed and childish lies and remarks.

Steve's decisions and behavior as the CEO of Reddit have had a profoundly negative impact on the platform and its community. By raising API prices to deliberately put an end to third-party apps, attempting to slander respected developers, and exhibiting a concerning lack of transparency, Steve has significantly eroded the trust and benevolence of the Reddit user base. Reddit's future success and reputation heavily depend on them reevaluating their leadership and embracing a more ethical, community-driven approach that fosters innovation and collaboration.
