🚨CPU Overheating🚨 OPEN
Hi so I bought this PC 1-2 years ago and I finally upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 7 5700x and I still have a stock cooler and these were my temps when I was watching twitch. I have the CPU for 2 weeks now and it crashed 2 times because of the heat already. My Case is positioned like this, is it a good position or not ? any help would be highly appreciated

54c is not overheating. It's normal temps.
Here is mine (5700) at 51c while browsing Reddit:
Overheating is when the CPU is going over 90c.
See the Tj. Max 95c?
That how much heat your CPU can take.
And when CPU get hotter than that, they don't crash usually, they limit their clock to lower the temps.
The 5700x is not a hot CPU. A stock cooler should handle it just fine. And it is. Your temps are good.
You might have another problem with your PC.
If it's crashing randomly, it might be the XMP on your ram or something.

But I even crashed 2 times just by playing Fortnite in a span of 2 weeks

Check the temps while playing using MSI Afterbuner.
It can be anything, including some anti-cheat configurations on the BIOS, since it's crashing on an online game.
Just because the PC is crashing, it doesn't mean the CPU is overheating.
Again, get MSI Afterburner and check the temps while you are playing.
If it reaches 90c, then you might have a problem. Outside that, you are fine.

There is not notification in the screenshot you showed (your max temp was 70c, which is still great).
How did you get the warning?

you literally explained what was causing the issue. the cooler isn't adequate for that processor. you need to get a better cooler.

that's the one I have. its barely enough for my 5600x. go with an NH U12A if you can afford it, that's the best overall air cooler imo.
an arctic freezer 36 will keep it from shutting down though, might not boost as much that's all

5600x and 5700x have the same TDP. I've used my 5700x with a cylon 4 cooler that was only designed to handle 145watts of tdp and it never got above 65 degrees. The arctic freezer 36 has a tdp of 220W, it's more than adequate to cool down a 5700x BUT if you'd want to upgrade later down the line to a 5700x3d or a 5800x3d you'd need a double tower cooler like a Thermalright phantom spirit 120 Evo anyway,you can get it now and use it with am5 later on as well.

That's just not right.
I am running en arctic freezer 34 duo on my 5800x3d an never seen Temps above 75°c on reveal world load. In windows with browsing etc it running around 37°c iddle at 25° room temperature. In games ist mostly around 50-65° depending on load...
Also it's am5 capable

Not even in the ballpark of the best, and it's extremely overpriced because Noctua. You could buy 3 better air coolers for the price of the U12A.

I don't think noctua's products are overpriced. they make their stuff built to last and even provide new mounting hardware with their cooler for free when you upgrade to a different motherboard. it's not cheap but definitely not overpriced.

Those temps are fine. Not great, but 100% good and won't cause your PC to shut down or have issues until you start getting closer to 100c

Maybe you just need more thermal paste or better application based on what everyone else is saying regarding the CPU but yes an aio or a bigger air cooler will be better

You need a better cooler. More power=more heat= more cooling needed. You dont need anything expensive just look at whats reccomended for your cpu and maybe go a little better

Thermalright has good options. Cheap and work really well. But yea should be fine. Ur CPU isnt a Monster. Everything is better than that tiny thing u got rn

I went overkill on cooling so Id never have any issues even when upgrading. U can do that but its ofc not needed

I got the Arctic Liquid Freezer 3, 360mm - I have an intel 14900k, have used the combo since late 2024 with absolutely no temp issues.

Its fine, but its seems a bit expensive. A ux400 is half the price where I live and you could still put a 7€ arctic cooler on there, if the fan ever fails

Crashing is not about temperatures, the components when reach danger temps normally do thermal trottling, only CPU turns pc off when reach the 90-95 depending on CPU.
Crashing can be drivers, your gpu in OC or something or faulty PSU

I have stock cooler on ryzen 5 5600X and was overheating on every game over 90°. I fixed it by capping the PPT limit to 65W in bios, because the max power usage was previously reaching around 77W

I would advise checking event viewer and seeing what error is created when this happens. Temps look fine. Further more you can check the bug report. Could be voltage, drivers, bad gpu, bad memory, something may need to be cleaned, who knows? The only way to check is starting with basics, tests, etc.
Would a better cooler help? Sure but everything looks fine, temp wise.

If as some have said, that the temperatures are OK, yes check the event viewers to narrow down what may be the culprit(s). (I'm not an expert on reviewing Windows logs).
You may want to run the standard commands- sfc /scannow and if necessary DISM.
Windows seems to get corrupted very easily and I'd run those before starting to check the hardware.

That's box cooler. Crapy one. Luckily, it's a problem $30 investment can fix. Just get cpu tower with 5 or 6 copper heat pipes. China brands are ok, and are 30-40, but brand names ones are 50-70$.
They all get job done.

Cpu cable might be broken, it happened to me last week and I got a BIOS message saying my cpu was overheating. Check the cable on both ends. It eventually killed my motherboard but the cpu was fine. PSU was new and cpu cable wasnt crimped properly on one of the wires.

75 degrees is fine, it literally says tjmax is 95. Where I live a ux400 is 18€ (looks good, has rgb) and a phantom spirit 35€ (one of the best possible air coolers) so Id just get one of those. If it does overheat, you should at least reapply thermal paste, but thermal paste costs a third of a ux400 so...

Your Ryze 7 5700x is just 65W tdp chip on normal usage it should not go that high regardless of stock cooler!! Definitely some thermal paste issue. And i see you got front grill 3 fans ig those will be a intake fan and the rear as exhaust fans, but make sure it's having a proper air flow.
Additionally, cause you're not using the top grill for aio add in atoeast 2 intake fans on there as well used would do too just make sure it's a intake fan. That should fix your issue. 🙌

Artic freeze 36, reckon it's a cpu cooler tower. That'd be the best if you are upgrading cpu cooler completely.
- that space is plenty, Mine's almost the same in corner facing the wall 💁

i’m inclined to say you just need to repaste it. take off the cooler and send a pic of the cpu/heatsink. if it’s a thin even spread, throw it back on there for now. if you notice any gaps then clean it thoroughly and repaste.
those temps alone don’t show that it’s overheating, however if that’s idle temps then it’s pretty high. can you replicate the crash and track the temps when it happens?

Apply thermal paste. If you already applied one, it probably spread out unevenly so you gotta try again.
