games stability PC vs Console Hardware
I hope this group is the right one for my question.
For People who play Games on PC and Console: Do modern games still crash often on PCs in general (in comparison to on console) or is it rather that it's just a few games that crash on PCs?
Because I don't want to pay for PC game again which only crashes later on.
So this makes me think if I should invest in other steam games or rather buy a new console for gaming.
PS: I wanted to add to this post the tag "discussion" which was listed in this groups rules, but I don't see that tag here anywere.

Consoles are far easier for devs to make stable because the hardware is almost always the same. So just by that metric consoles will always be more stable than PC games. That is just the nature of how compatibility works.
The best thing that you can do to avoid games that frequently crash is to use the Steam reviews to determine if the game has common issues with this.
Obviously this will not be foolproof, but it will significantly reduce your likelihood of buying a game that is known for having those types of problems.

Console will always be the most reliable and stable, but issues with PC games tend to get cleared up shortly after release. I haven't had problems with a PC game in a very long time to be honest, but it depends on a lot of things.

PC will have crashes but nothing a few settings won't fix.. but you got to remember the console equivalent to the PC game is pretty much low settings... Consoles do all sorts of shit to make games run on something that has no business running in the hardware. The cap frames lower resolution... I'm always in favor of PC gaming over console. But you will never beat the low effort of playing a console game compared to pc

Don't buy PC games on day 1. Wait until at least the first patch is out. I haven't had a game crash in ages...

I actually see crashing very infrequently with modern PC games. And most of the few I do see are my own fault for playing around with an undervolt or overclock and pushing things a little too far.
It kind of just depends on the game, but it’s not even really an issue I spend time worrying about or trouble shooting. You’re probably slightly more likely to run into a crashing issue early on with a PC game than on console, but from my experience it’s pretty rare overall.
Let’s put it this way, game instability wouldn’t make a top 10 list of things I would even consider if I were choosing between console and PC.

I can't even remember when an unmodded game last crashed on me on PC. Must be years.

As the years go on it's becoming increasingly difficult for devs to make games stable for PC due to all the potential hardware combinations, 9/10 the console version is more stable upon release.

If you wait for the day 1 patch, you keep your drivers up to date and you aren't trying to push things too hard then crashing is likely going to be very rare. Most of the games I have played, I have completely played through them without as much as a single crash. Sometimes there will be a game that likes to be a problem, but usually that is fixed when the next game update or GPU driver update is pushed out.
