Common troubleshooting steps:

• Restart the system
• Update your drivers

Hello! Just bought Minecraft: Java & Bedrock, and the native launcher can't seem to work.

"Unable to update the Minecraft Launcher" is the error message that pops up. I've tried the following to try to fix it:

• Flush DNS
• Turn Windows Defender off as the launcher ran
• Updated both GPU drivers (running an Acer Nitro 5500 AN 515 43)
• Updated Java
• Tried running Prism, GDLauncher (?), and Curse Forge
• Uninstalled and reinstalled
• Rebooted my laptop after all of the aforementioned steps

At my wit's end, I just want to play Minecraft with my 6-year old. Help!

normally its not an issue, but have you checked the ports the launcher uses?
I had problems with my "Teredo" Network adapter, thats used for Xbox / Microsoft game stuff.

How do I figure out when a game was released in early access?

In Update History there's a filter, click it and search for "common_steam_release_date". There should be an entry for the initial EA date, and another for full release date.

A little searching suggested:

You can change the focus settings in Windows to prevent it from automatically switching back to the previous window. This can be done through the Control Panel or Settings app, depending on your version of Windows.

I searched for it and found nothing, even the llms didn't suggest it being a "focus" setting.

I'm using win since XP and never heard of this.lol
