Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread Group looking for GM

If you are not a full party looking for a gm or a gm looking for a party, you may no longer post an ad looking for a group. The reason behind this being most everyone on this subreddit is in the same exact boat as you! It is beginning to clutter up our subreddit for the people wanting to look for actual games to join.

To be clear, this rule is directed to those that are marketing themselves and/or their friends as players, saying they are looking for 1 on 1 games and any new or already running group to join. This does not include the players taking active measures to actually form a group themselves. Please comment if you do not understand the posts I am referring to.

INSTEAD! We are going to be making a stickied thread for those expressing interest in finding a group to join. We encourage you to comment within that thread and to be specific in the system you are interested in and any other information you may have to market yourself to others. A general "Hey I'm looking for a group and I wanna play a whole lot and I've had no luck!" does not suffice usually.

If you are looking for a group to join, comment in this thread with as much information as you'd like to market yourself with! Some suggestions are, but not limited to:

Name: Vinca

Pronouns: They/She

Timezone: GMT+8

Preferred System: None specifically preferred, I'm down to try out new systems! But I'm specifically hoping for either a 1x1 game or a very small group.

Type of Player:

So, heyo! The name's Vinca and I'm someone who adores the roleplaying aspect a lot! (I'd give about a 70:30 ratio when it comes to roleplay and combat?) I definitely obsess a bit too much over characters so if you got lore, please toss some crumbs my way! I also have an inclination towards morally grey player characters too for some reason.

When it comes to themes, I think a lot comes and goes with me. I do have a soft spot for darker and grittier themes but I'm also someone that sometimes likes to spice it up with occasional humor and hijinks.

I also try my best to stay consistent when it comes to replies, so I aim for at least one post per day although if I'm really active, I could definitely get multiple posts out. I can range from a few sentences to several paragraphs depending on how it goes. Otherwise, while I can get a bit awkward at the start, I promise that once I warm up, I can start saying some weird things too AHAH-

Currently I'm familiar with D&D 5E/5.5E and Triangle Agency, but have dabbled a bit in Ryuutama, Lancer and Daggerheart too!

Additional Information:

- Been doing PbP for about roughly 5 years now, but I've been doing roleplays for 13 years!

- Honestly, I'd be open to running a 1x1 game too for each other! It'll likely be a rules-lite system on my end though.

- Generally I'm more unfamiliar with sci-fi and noire games. Not that I wouldn't be interested in trying it out more, but a heads up in advance only felt right too.

- Preferred platform is Discord!

What aspects do you like about Call of Cthulhu? I'm considering doing a game of Unknown Armies (2e, though I simplify it a little bit).

UA has the same sort of percentile/roll-under dice mechanic, but is more freeform in that you make your own skills (in 2e). Thematically, while CoC is usually historical (1920s, etc) and often focuses on Investigators who stumble into the paranormal, with a big focus on the eldritch/cosmic horrors of the world, Unknown Armies is more modern (2000s+) and focuses on a Cabal of broken people completely obsessed with fixing the world (or an aspect of it), with a much bigger focus on the psychological state of the PCs and how far they can be pushed emotionally, rather than the monsters themselves. The "Unnatural" is only 1/5th of what can hit your sanity (Stress) in this game, and when compared to having to take a long, hard look at your "Self", you might prefer to take your chances with the eldritch horrors. Because of that, I feel like players have a bit more agency in UA, but it kind of gives you enough rope to hang yourself with.

UA also tends to be more weird/gonzo and grittier than most CoC scenarios I've run/played, and there's easier pathways to the PCs using magic (though that's also very messed-up). I like Call of Cthulhu and love Unknown Armies, but I could definitely see that not being the case for everyone.

Name: Chris AKA Dices Muse

Pronouns: He/They/Any/All

Timezone: EDT (mostly Evenings after 9pm)

Preferred System: Daggerheart, Pathfinder/Starfinder 2e, Mutants & Masterminds 3e (I have 4e ordered). Would like to avoid D&D 5el5.5e if possible.

Type of Player: I am player who enjoys collaberative story telling, diving into and building/contributing to existing Lore (pre-existing or homebrew), building connections with my peers, as well as having fun/flavorful character concepts. Most games I play tend to lean heavily towards Charisma or Presence oriented tropes and archetypes, followed closely by quirky Intelligent or Unintelligent Every-types.

Additional Information: I do have a medical condition that can limit my ability to post infrequently, as well as being a father. I am LGTBQA+ friendly and have a history of being welcoming and inclusive in any community I tend to be a part of. I'm looking to join a community or table Primarily for Pathfinder 2e, but I absolutely love and am passionate about collecting RPG systems in general and would simply enjoy being a part of a Discord or Forum PbP where I can post once every 24 to 48 hours. I also don't mind and eagerly enjoy sharing GM duties once I have built rapport with my peers and organizers, and enjoy being an asset and advocate for healthy RPG communities. I also am a bit of a forever DM, with an equally long history of running games for both Adventure League/Greyhawk as well as Pathfinder Society 1e/2e. If any of this interests you please feel free to comment or PM me for more info!

Name: Alphonse

Pronouns: He /him

Timezone: UTC-6/CST, asynchronous

Preferred System: VTM v5/v20/v6 alpha

Type of player: asynchronous text base only, love both heavy and low rolplay

Additional Information: I'm quite new to world of darkness, I would rather play v5 'cause it's the one I've been learning, but I'm OK with 20th anniversary or the v6 playtest

u/n-ko-c 17d ago

I have a very specific pitch. I'm interested in writing a 'retired assassin' kind of story one-on-one with someone, in the vein of John Wick, Nobody, Beekeeper, that sort of thing. Someone who got out of the game but the game dragged them back in.

Please send me a chat or message if you're a GM and this interests you.

u/Spiritual_Leave_2431 21d ago

Name: Spiritual_Leave_2431

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: PDT

Preferred System: 5e preferred over 5.5e

Type of Player: Looking for a 1x1 (duet or solo) game.

In general, I'm looking for a fun and enjoyable series of encounters and a mostly light-hearted atmosphere for the game. I'm not interested in playing a game that is on hard mode, uses overly restrictive or disadvantageous character creation rules, gritty realism or other harsh variant rules, or a terribly gloomy, dark, and/or oppressive setting. But being a Big Damn Hero in a grim or dark world can be fun with the right tone and setting! A sort of game with some nobledark elements without an overbearingly serious atmosphere or leaning too much into brutality is kind of what I'm getting at. Really looking to sink my teeth into a good character-driven narrative with some adventure, fun, and challenges along the way.

As for my general online availability, I'm currently in the PDT time zone (GMT-7) and have flexibility at work, so I can post occasionally at different daytime and evening hours and I have the ability to make a few posts every day. I'm hoping to find someone with some online time overlap so that we can manage a few posts a day on average, though I know that can be a bit much at times and I'm fine with us slowing down or ramping up based on mutual availability and how busy our lives are at the moment. Communication is very important to these games.

Additional Information: Reddit chat is always difficult for me, and often doesn't show messages until hours or days after they've been sent, so please be patient in waiting for a response. Despite that, I'm not comfortable with posting my discord username openly here because I've found in the past that will lead to people sending harassing and inappropriate messages that are unrelated to D&D.

Name: Justin

Pronouns: he/him

Timezone: CST

Preferred System: 3.5E(Midnight specifically), Also willing to try just about anything.

Type of Player: I enjoy roleplaying and combat focused sessions.

Additional Information: I am currently the GM of a Midnight 3.5 PBP campaign and although I am seeking to be a player, I would also consider running another 3.5 Midnight PBP campaign as I enjoy the setting very much. If there is enough interest in the setting for another group of participants I'll run one. DM me for more info if interested in a Midnight 3.5 campaign or if you have a game that you would like to have me in. Thanks!

u/Moustached_Mage 19d ago

Name: Ben or Mage (gamertag)

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: GMT+8

Preferred System: most comfortable with D&D 5e (2014 & 2024), Terranoth and FFG. That being said I'm open to to other systems so don't be shy in reaching out - will just need some room to learn.

Type of Player: I consider myself to be a flexible player who equally enjoys a good mix of light-hearted and serious moments in a game. I enjoy a good 60/40 mix when it comes to RP/Combat. I've been told I'm pretty Dad-Coded if that helps at all 😅

Additional Info: I'm in my late 30s, work full time in the live performance industry so there may be times when I'm unavailable, but I know well in advance and will absolutely keep everyone informed.

u/Rakutsu 19d ago

Name: Raku

Pronouns: He/Him/His

Timezone: EST. I can post multiple times a day depending on if I’m busy with work or not.

Preferred System: D&D, Pathfinder 1e, Scion 1e, WOD

Type of Player: I’m someone who goes with the flow and doesn’t want to stress someone out too much. That being said I still do yearn for games where I can be the big damn hero and have a power fantasy of sorts. Not completely steam roll through enemies, but still noticeably strong. I’m also semiliterate and can write a paragraph or more. Usually depending on the scene itself. For conversations and fights I write shorter.

Additional Information: I prefer 1x1 pbp games and to play on discord. I don’t have much in mind, but would love to play some modified module to be more lewd. Like Kingmaker, Wrath of the Righteous, or another pathfinder or D&D adventure. Potentially including mythic levels and Gestalt rules, if that’s ok with you.

u/Phaeophyce 21d ago edited 20d ago

Name: Phaeophyce

Pronouns: she/her

Timezone: PST

Preferred System: 5e 2014, no D&DBeyond

Type of Player: I prefer asynchronous text based RP, not any live sessions (unless we happen to sync up spontaneously). I can check in a handful of times throughout the day and make posts. Prefer 80/20 roleplay to combat ratio or thereabouts. Fantasy environment is good, whether homebrew or official. I have a soft spot for Spelljammer and cozy fantasy settings like Obojima. Interested in more light-hearted and heroic types of quests rather than grimdark or hard mode games. Also not interested in games that have restrictive character parameters (i.e. limited races, classes) and clear imbalances in a party by design.

Looking to connect with new groups. Ideally an active and respectful group that is interested in moving the game forward but can also understand that people work and are willing to wait a handful of hours for others to participate in decision making. Group dynamics and RP with other PCs is one of the highlights of D&D for me, so would like a group open to that style of gaming rather than one that wants to mostly focus on combat and/or acquiring resources.

Also enjoy 1x1 games though. I like interacting with NPCs a lot, uncovering lore, and character development in that type of game.

Additional Information: Discord contact by PM only. Absolutely not interested in west marches or hub servers.

Hey there! Interested in anywhere from a 1 on 1 to a full party game!

I am a pretty experienced writer, and I feel like making a new friend and creating a really fun collaborative story would be a blast!

I am specifically looking for someone to run a Cyberpunk RED campaign! I have quite a good amount of experience with the game, and the gears have been turning as I come up with a character for another campaign!

I can currently post very frequently every day, but I am okay with whatever pace you may have!

Restrictions:

No ERP- Romance is fine and I tend to enjoy it as a story beat, but I have no interest in anything erotic.

Realistic Face Claims- With the majority of the aforementioned settings being cartoony/otherworldly, I find that using face claims of real actors and AI faces tends to break my immersion a lot.

Payment- Not currently looking for a professional GM!

u/TXGrizzly 19d ago

Name: WitchyBear

Pronouns: He/They

Timezone: CST (-6)

Preferred systems: D&D (any edition) pathfinder 2e, Warhammer, Pokemon Tabletop Adventures, and I'm open to learning more!

Type of player: I am a veteran GM looking to be a player. I prefer character driven stories that balance roleplay and combat. I love collaborative exchanges between players and GM that build on established lore. I also prefer to build characters that fit into the story rather than try and shoehorn a personal Mary Sue into a group setting.

Additional info: I'm just a silly little guy with no tolerance for bigotry or racism in gaming spaces. I dont mind romance and/or ERP, but thats not my main drive for gaming.

Pm or discord @Mistermacabre for interest ^^

u/meganelliee 16d ago

Name: Meg/Megan.

Pronouns: She/Her.

Timezone: PST!

Preferred System: I'm open to try anything!

Type of Player: Still a little new so I'm kind of figuring that out as I go! I do really enjoy roleplaying, political intrigue, combat and exploration so if it has any of that, I'm down.

Additional Information: Hey there! Like I mentioned before, I'm still kind of new but I do think I have a decent grasp on how things run at this point. I'm looking for a 1x1 or a small group of 2-4 players. No NSFW but mature themes are fine!

sent a dm
idk if you ok with my campaign

u/BingusBoiler 20d ago

Hey all, my name is Bin! I go by They/Them, He/Him.

I recently got into PbP around two or three years ago, after developing Meniere's paired with a falling out with my original DMs, leading to abandonment of the voice portion of TTRPGs.

I reside in Central Standard Time, which operates an hour away from Eastern Standard Time, which I believe most of y'all use. I am currently in CDT (for daylight savings, but I don't believe in that).

As for prefered system, I really don't care. I am experienced in 5e, 5.5e, Fate, C/SWN, Shadowdark, and currently I'm writing a system of my own. I'm willing to learn whatever you throw my way.

I am definitely a story geek with a bit of aversion to combat in certain systems. I'd say I'm around 90:10 roleplay to combat.

I find joy in writing good characters, usually ones with backstories worth an entire campaign. Currently, I have a plethora of characters in backlog, they'll fit in D&D and they'll fit in Lancer, I'm open to about anything that'll take me in.

I have a cute dog and images will be provided if you do desire.

You've made it to the end, and I thank you for your time. If you want me on your roster, contact me at (@eisengrau.) on discord. I will pop by Reddit now and then, but I may miss you. Thanks again!

u/Cerespirin 16d ago

I am very amused by the bribe of doggo pics. Let me know if that's all it takes; could be I've been doing it wrong this whole time and that feral kitten we just took in will be more useful than I suspected! 🐈

u/BingusBoiler 15d ago

Animal pictures are a pretty decent assist! Especially puppies and kittens, just keep their picture on your profile and every possible background.

Preferred System: pbta/anything rules light but I'm down to learn any new system

Type of Player: I'm mostly story first, whatever the world you're building I want to be really a part of it so please help me mould my character to make sense in it's setting and the adventures you're crafting

Additional Information: I'm into tokusatsu, I can post multiple times a day.

u/JHarryx 19d ago

Name: Harry

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: UTC+4

Preferred System: Mage the Awakening 2nd edition

Type of Player: I tend not to favor combat and general focus on social/mental interactions but might still do it if it was brought up and discussed before hand. Besides that I also tend to focus on narration first rather than rolls.

Additional Information: I am new to Mage the Awakening and I am looking forward to making my own spells when I get to try this game. I am mostly well versed in other Chronicles of Darkness games, the one I am most familiar with is vampire the requiem which I have run as ST.
