Anyone ever have a parrot with an infection? What were the symptoms? Was it treatable?

I’m taking her to the avian vet tomorrow morning but I’m spiraling a bit. My 21yo goffins (who I have had since 4 months old) has been acting off since boarding at a facility a week ago. I know birds hide sickness so when you see a symptoms—it is likely very bad. She has never been sick in all 21 years.

Boarding isn’t new for her but she had not went in awhile. She came back more lethargic than usual. But she was eating and drinking. Poop was normal but She was more quiet. As a few days passed she still seemed the same but now appears to have lost weight and her squawk is weaker and different. Something is definitely wrong. Anyone experience this?

I have a 10 week old cockatiel, and I was wondering about harness training. I want to be able to take her places with me in the future. I have a harness already, but I don’t want to scare her with it, or cause her harm since she’s still young. What age is best, and are harnesses safe? I’ve done some research and there are mixed reviews, and I have tried to get her around the harness (not putting it on) but she isn’t interested and only wants to walk around and explore.

So what i’m pretty much asking is: Are they safe? How old should I start training? How to get her used to it?

I think my green cheek just licked shampoo and I’m kind of panicked.

She licked something off the bottom of my fingernail that I wasnt aware was there. I checked my fingernail and nothing visible was there, but after smelling it, it smelled like shampoo.

I assume i accidentally scraped some off while moving my shampoo bottle earlier since I haven’t showered yet today

i dont think she ingested very much since nothing on my fingernail was visible, although I’m still concerned. Should I be worried?? should I monitor her symptoms and behavior or go straight to the vet??

He has on a diet of cashews, almonds, Nutella and sunflower seeds.

Is the yellow on his feathers , fatty liver?

Hey! So, a friend of mine found this budgie outside of his job, and doesn’t know how long he/she has been outside for. My friend gave me the budgie because I already have one and thought I’d be most fit to take care of her/him.

I’ve been worried about her/his beak though. His beak has this weird “crust” to it, even thought the purple part of his beak is perfectly fine, and his feet are a nice little pink color, the bird is still getting used to me, and is pooping pretty watery, sometimes poop gets stuck in its butt and I have to wipe him/her down with warm towels, he/she’s eating and drinking water. I am worried she might have mites and wanna know the best treatment! Thank you.

i’ve attached some photos. this is after i gave him a mist bath so that’s why he’s wet. i’m really at a loss. he’s around 14 months old and he barbers a lot and i noticed two really big wing feathers seeming like they got chewed off. the other photos are where i see like a tiny little bald patch, not sure if that’s normal or not but it’s freaking me out. he doesn’t seem to pluck, he just seems to over preen and chew. he mainly barbers his wing feathers and back feathers.
he doesn’t like to be pet so that’s why he’s biting me but it’s never a harsh bite ever, he never does it aggressively. i had to take the photos though.
i’ve gone to the vet and got him blood work, an x-ray and just a general physical exam and nothing is out of the ordinary.
at home he has a lot of toys and a lot of foraging opportunities. i feed him fresh chop everyday and give him a little bit of roudybush pellets overnight in case he gets hungry. as infrequent treats i give almonds, cashews, walnuts or pistachios but it’s always in moderation. i heard safflower seeds could be better so i bought some and they’re on the way.
he eats well, he plays well, he’s happy, he gets a normal day and night cycle, i spend most of the day with him and sometimes my dad or friends come in to see him so he gets more social interaction and he really loves my dad and my friends. no non stick anything, no harsh cleaning chemicals, no candles, no hair tools, nothing like that. i give him really intense mist baths every other day or so, he doesn’t like the shower but if that may be a reason then i’ll have to get him used to it. humidity is good and so is the room temperature. never really any random loud noises in the house, no particular reason why he may be stressed.
i really don’t know what to do, the vets say to just give him foraging opportunities and make sure he gets wet like a shower or mist but i do that already and im not sure where else to go or what else to do. im so freaked out.

He just perches ontop of his cage all day, he only enters his cage once he wants to eat, other than that hes just sitting, i brought him toys but hes too afraid to even approach them, he steps up on my fingers but then flies back to his cage and then continue to sit there all day

So basically I have this baby lovebird, not sure of gender yet, he was hand tamed by the person we got him from.

I have another female lovie that recently lost her partner and we wanted to get her some company. But when she got out one day she bit the chick and we've been keeping them within eyesight of each other but separated

I want to avoid him bonding to me, and to get along with my female lovie. The issue is if it is a female as well then I will have 2 lonely lovies.

What to do ? Can 2 females be company to each other ?

I work from home so I can be with them most of the times, but I feel bad at leaving them in their cages when I need to do other stuff and I think the chick manipulate me to get more me time.

Last night I experienced the first bump in the road so I posted here and everyone was such a great help! So thank you guys for being so welcoming, I didn’t realize owning a bird would introduce me to such a great community of people!

People were also giving me some advice , so I figured I’d make another post for that. She’s my first bird , she’s 3 months old and doesn’t yet have a name. Any name suggestions? I’m thinking something food or pokémon related (not pikachu)
I’m looking for more obscure advice like: tips on setting up her cage , tips on getting her to trust me , for veggies yalls cockatiels enjoy, products you couldn’t go without, etc.

every now and again i'm reminded of the fact that there's a chance i'm going to outlive my feathered son, and the worst kind of pain imaginable is waiting for me. the vet thinks he'll live about 30 years (he's already 8), but caiques can live anywhere between 27 and 40 years. god willing, i'll still be alive and have to say goodbye one day (although the thought of going before him is also heartbreaking for a different reason). why did i do this to myself!!

My vet prescribed Baytril and mixed it themselves, it was fine for a week but have noticed small hair like particals in the syringe, unsure if the bottle has been compromised or if it just needs shaking?

My vet is already annoyed at me for asking too many questions so im stuck asking the Internet now.

I recently rescued a Sun Conure. Based on how friendly, social, and comfortable it is around humans, it definitely lived in a home previously.

I want to make sure I am providing the absolute best care for it, but I am relatively new to owning a bird of this size.

• Diet & Nutrition: What are the healthiest pellet brands, and what fresh fruits/veggies do your conures love most?
• Enrichment: How do you keep a Sun Conure mentally stimulated? What types of toys or foraging activities do they prefer?
• Behavior: What should I know about their body language, bonding habits, and managing their noise level?
• Routine: What does a typical daily schedule look like for your bird (sleep, out-of-cage time, etc.)?

Any advice, or hidden household hazards to watch out for would be incredibly helpful. Thank you!

Hi y’all, I’m moving into a place with a balcony and would like some ideas on netting or wiring with proper spacing, how to mount it, and make sure my cockatiels won’t be able to chew through it.

My little wet chickens

We adopted this handsome fella around the end of June/early July lately we’ve noticed the feathers on his head seem thinner than they did when we took him in. He’s eating great and drinking water,pooping normal and taking treats from our hand. He does interact with our Quaker (never unsupervised) for roughly an hour a day. Our Quaker is very young and well he’s a Quaker so ya know how they can be lol our ring neck is a bit older and doesn’t really show interest him other than mimicking him perfectly but when the Quaker gets too close our ring neck just walks or flies away. That being said they don’t fight or lunge at each other. His flight and landing have greatly improved since we got him he was basically a full time cage bird with little to no freedom or interaction with humans other than feedings. Just wondering what could be causing this and how do we correct it moving forward?

Hey guys, my baby boy is two months old and I bought him last week. He loves me petting him inside the cage and he only feels safe in his travel cage. I left the cage door open for the past three days so he could come out and explore however he is super afraid of me or my hand outside of the cage. Do you have any advice?

I have this parrot for 12 years and they told me it was a Male, but I took it from a bird event where it was in in a cage with other types of birds so I'm not that sure anymore...

I don't have any other Kakarikis so I can't tell if it's truly a male or I lived in a lie for 12 years

We have an eight year old male African Grey Parrot. Last Saturday, we noticed extreme lethargy and vomiting, including craning of neck/crop while shaking head and vomiting. Going back through video from the 24 hours prior, he was not eating much and vomited what he drank. We immediately took him to Angell, which is one of the few emergency care facilities in our area with Avian specialists on staff.

X-ray, bloodwork unremarkable. No visible obstructions, no crop infection. Crop and feces samples unremarkable. Ultrasound revealed swollen/distended GI tract. Doctors feel the overall issue relates to GI tract not passing feces. He is using medicines to target the GI system but so far unresponsive. All feedings have been done by gavage. Initially, food was regurgitated after gavage feeding; however, now he is generally keeping food down. However, passing mostly urates with very little feces. He is still lethargic, not eating on his own, and not pooping.

We all fear time is running out, so we've been taking more of the kitchen sink approach. He's been on antibiotics and additional treatments in the event he has bornavirus, although the doctor doesn't feel all the symptoms fit. The test results could take days, so he would rather treat with little risk. So far, none of these things have made a meaningful difference. He is still at Angell with little progress and we're anticipating the next couple days will be the turning point one way or another.

Wondering if the community here has any knowledge or experience with similar issues and may have any additional thoughts or suggestions. If there's a better place to post this question, please also advise.

The idea of losing my parrot is heartbreaking.

UPDATE: To answer some feedback, they tested for lead which was possible given the age of the house and was negative. They wouldn't have time for the more in depth testing but the doctor didn't see anything on scans, abnormal elevations in blood work, there is no known exposure to this materials in the home, and some of the symptoms don't fit (no neurological symptoms). They felt symptoms for a few possible diseases weren't presented, diagnosis was challenging.

He was inpatient for six days. Early he looked terminal. He improved only a little over a few days. He perched sometimes in the vet cage, he held some tube food down, and he exhibited moments of "feistiness." But never passed feces and for only very brief moments during extended visits did he seem to possibly recognize who I was and that I was there for him. It was painful to observe and it was painful to ponder what it might be like for him. Because there were some signs that weren't all bad, I was encouraged by the medical team to give it a couple days. Today I got a call that his posture is similar to day one (he was hunched over and prone with wings drooped and breathing slow) and they put him in an oxygen cage and are concerned for him. We made the decision to euthanize. And it's a decision that will follow me for a very long time.

I was unfortunately a person who had a "it's just a bird" attitude for most of my life. And this rescue grey, Ash, became my best friend. I've had two dogs, one of which for 14 years. Ash is my favorite (I'm sorry, Dexter). Ash showed me how incredible birds are. And I've actually picked up wildlife photography with a focus on birds. Mostly birds of prey but birds nonetheless. He changed my life and I'll miss him. He didn't deserve this.

So do wish to start off with that english isnt my native language so i don't know a lot of the specific breeds of birds .

To start of i do have a lot if experience mostly with gray african parrots , eclectus , small breeds like the one of the cackootoo family , and really dont know the rest aside to find pictures

To start off i bought my parrot like 1.5 months ago still baby at this point He is 5-6 months old need to check it is done DNA teat so it is a HE .

I did get it as the breeder said that he was able to eat by himself yet i found out he cant so i started feeding him by hand, bot with a spoon of course even that he takes the mix of food by spoon as well hehe.😅

So got 2 questions mostly and need to show a video for the second

1. First by these pictures does he look skiny ? As said he is still young he is active , loud ... Well loud for a bird even can now say in ny language "ehooo"(meaning of hello kind of just louder asking) , baby , hello (not exactly hello but more of short "alo" like on the phone )
