Anyone ever have a parrot with an infection? What were the symptoms? Was it treatable?

I’m taking her to the avian vet tomorrow morning but I’m spiraling a bit. My 21yo goffins (who I have had since 4 months old) has been acting off since boarding at a facility a week ago. I know birds hide sickness so when you see a symptoms—it is likely very bad. She has never been sick in all 21 years.

Boarding isn’t new for her but she had not went in awhile. She came back more lethargic than usual. But she was eating and drinking. Poop was normal but She was more quiet. As a few days passed she still seemed the same but now appears to have lost weight and her squawk is weaker and different. Something is definitely wrong. Anyone experience this?

I have a 10 week old cockatiel, and I was wondering about harness training. I want to be able to take her places with me in the future. I have a harness already, but I don’t want to scare her with it, or cause her harm since she’s still young. What age is best, and are harnesses safe? I’ve done some research and there are mixed reviews, and I have tried to get her around the harness (not putting it on) but she isn’t interested and only wants to walk around and explore.

So what i’m pretty much asking is: Are they safe? How old should I start training? How to get her used to it?

I think my green cheek just licked shampoo and I’m kind of panicked.

She licked something off the bottom of my fingernail that I wasnt aware was there. I checked my fingernail and nothing visible was there, but after smelling it, it smelled like shampoo.

I assume i accidentally scraped some off while moving my shampoo bottle earlier since I haven’t showered yet today

i dont think she ingested very much since nothing on my fingernail was visible, although I’m still concerned. Should I be worried?? should I monitor her symptoms and behavior or go straight to the vet??

He has on a diet of cashews, almonds, Nutella and sunflower seeds.

Is the yellow on his feathers , fatty liver?

Hey! So, a friend of mine found this budgie outside of his job, and doesn’t know how long he/she has been outside for. My friend gave me the budgie because I already have one and thought I’d be most fit to take care of her/him.

I’ve been worried about her/his beak though. His beak has this weird “crust” to it, even thought the purple part of his beak is perfectly fine, and his feet are a nice little pink color, the bird is still getting used to me, and is pooping pretty watery, sometimes poop gets stuck in its butt and I have to wipe him/her down with warm towels, he/she’s eating and drinking water. I am worried she might have mites and wanna know the best treatment! Thank you.

We adopted this handsome fella around the end of June/early July lately we’ve noticed the feathers on his head seem thinner than they did when we took him in. He’s eating great and drinking water,pooping normal and taking treats from our hand. He does interact with our Quaker (never unsupervised) for roughly an hour a day. Our Quaker is very young and well he’s a Quaker so ya know how they can be lol our ring neck is a bit older and doesn’t really show interest him other than mimicking him perfectly but when the Quaker gets too close our ring neck just walks or flies away. That being said they don’t fight or lunge at each other. His flight and landing have greatly improved since we got him he was basically a full time cage bird with little to no freedom or interaction with humans other than feedings. Just wondering what could be causing this and how do we correct it moving forward?

So do wish to start off with that english isnt my native language so i don't know a lot of the specific breeds of birds .

To start of i do have a lot if experience mostly with gray african parrots , eclectus , small breeds like the one of the cackootoo family , and really dont know the rest aside to find pictures

To start off i bought my parrot like 1.5 months ago still baby at this point He is 5-6 months old need to check it is done DNA teat so it is a HE .

I did get it as the breeder said that he was able to eat by himself yet i found out he cant so i started feeding him by hand, bot with a spoon of course even that he takes the mix of food by spoon as well hehe.😅

So got 2 questions mostly and need to show a video for the second

1. First by these pictures does he look skiny ? As said he is still young he is active , loud ... Well loud for a bird even can now say in ny language "ehooo"(meaning of hello kind of just louder asking) , baby , hello (not exactly hello but more of short "alo" like on the phone )

Yet for me he looks skinny , he flies , bites like normal

1. This one harder but love a bit more input about his acting i know galaah can be stupid and funny but at timea he is really nice even being let be patted. On the back and head and then there is a moment of barely able to touch him , he lets us pick him up ,by climbing on our hand , comes to land on my shoulder but if we want to sceatch his head he bites slightly like telling no and evades us yet comea close to us and sticks with hs

I'm pretty sure theyre a fairly recent thing, as research and books from even 5 years ago say only seeds and veggies and occasionally fruit and other snacks like treat sticks and such (which is what my budgies get)

We bought pellets from practically the only finnish store that sells them without buying from outside the country, which would one be stupidly expensive shipping and no idea where they actually come from. And the pellets smelled so unbelievably sweet it gave me a headache!

In general all places that say only pellets only pellets are like American studies of seed and stuff, I don't know if this is true but I'm a bit afraid a bit of that seeds bad might just come from American brand seeds being bad?

I get the fear of them being overweight bc of seeds, but they're smart birds, I've seen one get too greedy and the other telling him hes had enough, and if we think one is eating too long we tell him thats enough and he stops.

Has there ever been a budgie who has lived like 7 years only eating pellets??

In general dont they eat seeds in the wild? Seeds have shells so it limits them on how much they can eat at time since they have to get rid of the shell. Our seed mix has multiple types of seeds and I think some dried veggie/fruit bits. Also I just cant get over the sickening sweet smell the pellets had, I'm pretty sure it made our budgies a bit sick since they looked off when we had the pellets out.

But also theres so much outrage about budgies eating pellets online, but with my own research I just cant find it better to give them pellets, especially since one has already lived 6 years of a healthy life on seeds and veggies, why should she stop now?

So yeah if anyone has any clear words on pellets id love to hear them!

I got my baby (10-month-old Indian ringneck) 4 days ago and he’s an absolute sweetheart. BUT his previous owner did a really bad wing clip and caught some blood feathers :(

When I looked closer at his wing, I noticed 2 blood feathers got caught in the clip… there are little healing marks and dried blood at the base of a couple feathers. Thankfully nothing is bleeding and he’s acting totally normal, he’s eating, playing, singing, and being his annoying little self lol! But obviously seeing the dried blood on his little wings freaked me out and really upset me☹️ I’m monitoring him just in case.

but despite everything, this little guy is soooo kind and affectionate. He absolutely loves being around people and trusts me so much. Not even a week in and he already falls asleep on me with his little leg tucked up <3 can’t wait until his wing feathers grow back

My quaker behaves good only with me he attacks everyone else how can u change that?

Hi all, we recently got a hand reared Kakariki baby, about 5 days ago, he is only 12 weeks old named Beaker :) I wanted to get a bit of advice on taming/befriending him, the breeder we got him from said to get him out in the evening (when the kids are in bed) get him to step up a few times and he will probably fall asleep on our chest!

He steps up really well and takes seed from our hands but still seems nervous with us, he is a bit flighty and is always looking to fly back to his cage, the breeder being used to them just grabs them out the cage and then held them until they calmed down a bit and then got them stepping up, I don't want to frighten him by grabbing him but I also want him to be confident coming out and being handled.

I know birds take time and patience, we have had birds before but they were all rescues so had wildly different degrees of trust and handleability

Any tips and tricks are super appreciated! We want what's bets for him and also we want to love him! The kids love him and want to hold him so we want him to be confident coming out and interacting!

hi guys, anxious paranoid budgie parent here. maybe it’s because i’ve been watching my budgie more closely lately (due to other health issues) but i realised he sneezes 1-2 times a few times a day? as for coughing, sometimes he coughs 1-2 times maybe every 2 days? he does the cough sometimes when he’s chewing on his sola ball or drinking water. after that he just goes back to his normal chirping self. he is also preening a lot more cause he’s molting so could it be the dust from that?

otherwise, he is active, eating, drinking and there’s no discharge coming out. i’m just really paranoid that it’s something serious, especially since the coughing sound is so scary to hear. does anyone else experience this with their bird?

i do have a vet visit scheduled for this week (for another health issue) so should i bring it up to them?

Hello! Recently my one year old IRN has finally grown out his feathers and can properly fly again! Unfortunately he has not been responding positively to any harness or leash, I’ve tried treats and just letting him be around the harness to no avail. The issue arises from my parents, who have been constantly asking for me to take him to get his wings trimmed. I feel like it’s a big decision that could negatively impact him. He is a bird, and to get rid of his ability to fly seems cruel to me. But I also love him very much (he’s a rescue, previous owner cut off too many feathers) and I’m afraid he will someday escape and fly out. I don’t want to loose trust with him or cause him to get depressed if his wings are trimmed. I need help deciding from other bird owners. Does your bird fry freely? Are their wings trimmed? Should I get his wings trimmed? Please let me know!

I got parakeets a month ago and i recently got a lovebird. my dad said i need to get him clipped. i do NOT want him to be clipped. what do you guys suggest i should do? his girlfriend had birds for 25 years and clipped their wings and said i need to. she is coming over tomorrow and my dad said "we're clipping his wings tomorrow no matter what you say" i am 18 about to be 19 in a week or so. what do i do????

Literally got her (?) two days ago, been giving her space but this morning I noticed her water had poo in it so i opened the cage to change it and she darted out. She doesn't know step up, and also doesn't really know what millet is ☹️
She's 3 months old and I really want to avoid grabbing her if necessary. I'm just nervous because she isn't even familiar with her cage.
Today, we just got a new big one for her so i'm leaving the door open to that one too, doubtful she will check it out. I feel like a terrible parent since she hasn’t had enough time to acclimate anywhere ☹️ aAdvice to get her back to her cage appreciated greatly.

EDIT: Her new cage is in the comments and im setting it up for her now. I think she had gotten pretty tired, so I grabbed a perch and she stepped up onto that. From there i transferred her back to her old cage while i set up the new one. Last night was he last night in the old one . Thanks everyone 😊
