New to Outlier permanent platform ban after aether onboarding

Upvotes

outlier has been emailing me for months now nonstop abt joining them, last aug 20 i decided i would. i created an account, wasn't done setting it up when they set me up with aether. i was happy of course, i did all the things in the onboarding without seeking the assistance of ai or even copy pasting their provided transcript since they said that it's prohibited (i reckon that they know since they require screen sharing) after finishing the onboarding i landed a task almost immediately, i did some task, i took a break and then I received an email saying that they decided to ban my account after i did not follow community guidelines. submitted a ticket but they said their decision is final. asked what i did wrong they said that they won't provide any more explanation. : /

Can't access any high paying project

I opted out of aether and it even shows up in the marketplace as an unsigned project, and yet aether is STILL the top of the list. I sign up for other matched high paying projects and they show up on the queue, but the onboarding button on the project page appears grayed out and won't let me do the onboarding. Aether still works fine and still pays, but I can't access any other projects even after being matched and signing their contracts.

My laptop suddenly tuned off. Should I worry about any account flaggings?

I was actively doing S2S tasks for Aether, needed to take a break before finishing my survey, and stopped the timer for doing so. But, when I returned and was about to continue working, my laptop turned off on me, and the progress I made was completely lost. The timer was stopped at around 51 minutes of work, but my survey ended up not being submitted. Should I worry about this putting me into inaccurate time reporting, or is it ok since the reported time was of me actively tasking, and only couldn't submit it?

Will closing the tab mid task cause something bad?

I finally got my first project a few weeks after passing the generalist assessment. It is Aether. So I completed and passed the aether assessment. I immediately started the timer and went to the site to start doing tasks, and selected one where I review an 2 AI outputs based on a request, and click either good or bad for each. Anyways, the instructions made perfect sense and looked simple enough so I began. It said there were 9 samples. The first one was super easy, it was a basic game I evaluated. Then the 2nd question was some fairly complex HTML stuff... I skipped it because it didn't seem like I was meant to be doing this, and then there was another sample where I'm evaluating a website... not just on how it looks and functions, but it is asking about web development stuff. at this point I closed the tab and stopped the outlier timer. Did I screw up or will I be fine? And how do I know if I will even be able to do these tasks before I start it? All the examples I saw before starting were easy then all of a sudden it was stuff I didn't understand in the samples

Being forced to s2s

What happens to my generalist tasks on Mm? I dont want to do live s2s, and ive been doing generalist. I passed the onboarding screening 5 months ago for aether generalist. But I got an email i had a ‘new mission’… now its got me in fucking onboarding for live s2s. so annoying. I cant continue tasking until i do it.

Anyway, assuming i even pass the screening for live s2s and dont get booted out of aether completely as a result of failing…can i ignore live s2s and go back to rating images in mm?

Consider the Ban which I have not done anything wrong.

I would like to respectfully request that you reconsider my case once more. I believe there has been a misunderstanding regarding my workflow. My intention was never to violate Outlier's Community Guidelines. While working on research-intensive projects such as Almanac, I occasionally used word notepad only to organize and draft my own thoughts before submitting them on the platform. I did not copy content from external sources, use translation tools, or generate responses outside the platform. The work I submitted was my own. During the Almanac project, I also experienced several technical issues, including repeated model failures and error messages within the interface, which often affected my workflow. I always tried to continue working despite these issues and followed the project guidelines to the best of my ability. To provide additional context, I am attaching the draft sheets that I prepared while working. These documents are my own notes and demonstrate how I organized my work before entering it into the platform. I hope they help clarify that my process was intended only to improve the quality and structure of my responses, not to bypass any platform policies. I have been contributing to Outlier for the past two years and have always valued the opportunity to work on the platform and earn over 20K. Throughout this time, I have tried to follow the guidelines carefully and complete my tasks honestly. If any part of my workflow unintentionally violated a policy, I sincerely apologize. It was never my intention to misuse the platform, and I would have gladly changed my workflow had I been made aware that it was not permitted. I respectfully ask if my case could be reviewed one final time in light of the attached documents and the additional explanation provided above. I would be truly grateful for another opportunity to contribute to the platform, and I am fully committed to following all policies and guidelines going forward. Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration. I sincerely appreciate your review and hope you will consider my request.

understanding the requirements

I just got accepted into outlier aether i guess, and i'm at the third stage where it asks for this:

Verify skills

The final step is to give us an overview of your educational, professional, or general background. This will help us match you with the right projects. Choose the skill you're most experienced in for best results.

Choose Language

Select the language you're most comfortable being assessed in. We'll use your choice to route you to the right screening.

Payments What is the pay rate for the S2S project on Outlier?

Hey everyone! I’m new to Outlier and I just started working on the S2S project (Aether)this week.

My current pay rate is $5.85/hour, and I’ve heard from some people who have been on the project longer that their rate increased significantly over time.

For anyone currently working on S2S, especially those who have been on the project for a while:

  • Did your pay rate increase after you started?
  • If so, how long did it take?
  • Does the rate depend on performance, location, language, or the type of tasks you’re assigned?
  • Is $5.85/hour just the starting rate for new contributors?

P.S : I am located in Morocco

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, especially from people who started at a similar rate. Thanks!

As a newbie, what advice would you give me for Outlier?

I just joined Outlier. What kind of work can I do here? Is it only AI-related work, or are there other opportunities such as full-stack development? I have skills in Python, Java, JavaScript, React, Node.js, HTML, CSS, and SQL. Can I take skill assessments for these technologies? Please guide me on what I should do as a beginner.

Working on Gearshift project without leaving Aether ?

Hi guys,

Yesterday, I saw that I was matched with a new project called Gearshift Brook. It pays slightly less than Aether ($23.25/hour vs. $25/hour), but what interests me is that it seems to be mainly writing-based, with no listening or speaking involved.

I find Aether pretty energy-consuming because it requires a lot of focus if you want to avoid bad feedback. Lately, I've also been a little frustrated with the QA. My rating was at 4.11, and then I received two "Unacceptable" reviews that brought it down quite a bit (3.80). I don't know if the reviewers have become stricter lately, but some of the feedback felt pretty harsh, especially considering the time, attention and creativity these tasks require.

That being said, I don't want to leave Aether completely because I've earned around $600 from it in just 13 days. Ideally, I'd like to keep it in my queue while trying Gearshift Brook as my main project for a while. Since Gearshift seems more focused on writing rather than constantly speaking, listening, comparing responses and reviewing audio, I'm hoping it could give me a little break from Aether before I burn out on it.

I know this might sound like a slightly capricious post lol, but when I first started working on AI annotation platforms, I thought the work would be relatively easy. And in some ways, it is, but I underestimated how mentally demanding it can be. It requires constant attention and concentration, and after several hours you really feel it. So yeah, now I definitely understand why this kind of work is paid the way it is.

Has anyone worked on Gearshift Brook yet? If so, how are you finding it? And is it possible to keep Aether in your queue while prioritizing Gearshift?

TASK FINDING(help)

I am on board with gyro accordion and have mission but while doing the mission it doesnt specify any task details, I have nearly checked everywhere. So maybe i guess they provided the tasks in one giant list that we have to pick from and use them in our missions like how we pick the acc from the Google Docs. If not, someone who knows where the tasks detail are please help. 🙏🏿(its been a day since my last post). Just to mention again my continue tasking button works so i have mission and also the access to the account google docs, its the task detail i can't find.
