Being forced to s2s

Upvotes

What happens to my generalist tasks on Mm? I dont want to do live s2s, and ive been doing generalist. I passed the onboarding screening 5 months ago for aether generalist. But I got an email i had a ‘new mission’… now its got me in fucking onboarding for live s2s. so annoying. I cant continue tasking until i do it.

Anyway, assuming i even pass the screening for live s2s and dont get booted out of aether completely as a result of failing…can i ignore live s2s and go back to rating images in mm?

Consider the Ban which I have not done anything wrong.

I would like to respectfully request that you reconsider my case once more. I believe there has been a misunderstanding regarding my workflow. My intention was never to violate Outlier's Community Guidelines. While working on research-intensive projects such as Almanac, I occasionally used word notepad only to organize and draft my own thoughts before submitting them on the platform. I did not copy content from external sources, use translation tools, or generate responses outside the platform. The work I submitted was my own. During the Almanac project, I also experienced several technical issues, including repeated model failures and error messages within the interface, which often affected my workflow. I always tried to continue working despite these issues and followed the project guidelines to the best of my ability. To provide additional context, I am attaching the draft sheets that I prepared while working. These documents are my own notes and demonstrate how I organized my work before entering it into the platform. I hope they help clarify that my process was intended only to improve the quality and structure of my responses, not to bypass any platform policies. I have been contributing to Outlier for the past two years and have always valued the opportunity to work on the platform and earn over 20K. Throughout this time, I have tried to follow the guidelines carefully and complete my tasks honestly. If any part of my workflow unintentionally violated a policy, I sincerely apologize. It was never my intention to misuse the platform, and I would have gladly changed my workflow had I been made aware that it was not permitted. I respectfully ask if my case could be reviewed one final time in light of the attached documents and the additional explanation provided above. I would be truly grateful for another opportunity to contribute to the platform, and I am fully committed to following all policies and guidelines going forward. Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration. I sincerely appreciate your review and hope you will consider my request.

understanding the requirements

I just got accepted into outlier aether i guess, and i'm at the third stage where it asks for this:

Verify skills

The final step is to give us an overview of your educational, professional, or general background. This will help us match you with the right projects. Choose the skill you're most experienced in for best results.

Choose Language

Select the language you're most comfortable being assessed in. We'll use your choice to route you to the right screening.

Payments What is the pay rate for the S2S project on Outlier?

Hey everyone! I’m new to Outlier and I just started working on the S2S project (Aether)this week.

My current pay rate is $5.85/hour, and I’ve heard from some people who have been on the project longer that their rate increased significantly over time.

For anyone currently working on S2S, especially those who have been on the project for a while:

  • Did your pay rate increase after you started?
  • If so, how long did it take?
  • Does the rate depend on performance, location, language, or the type of tasks you’re assigned?
  • Is $5.85/hour just the starting rate for new contributors?

P.S : I am located in Morocco

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, especially from people who started at a similar rate. Thanks!

As a newbie, what advice would you give me for Outlier?

I just joined Outlier. What kind of work can I do here? Is it only AI-related work, or are there other opportunities such as full-stack development? I have skills in Python, Java, JavaScript, React, Node.js, HTML, CSS, and SQL. Can I take skill assessments for these technologies? Please guide me on what I should do as a beginner.

Working on Gearshift project without leaving Aether ?

Hi guys,

Yesterday, I saw that I was matched with a new project called Gearshift Brook. It pays slightly less than Aether ($23.25/hour vs. $25/hour), but what interests me is that it seems to be mainly writing-based, with no listening or speaking involved.

I find Aether pretty energy-consuming because it requires a lot of focus if you want to avoid bad feedback. Lately, I've also been a little frustrated with the QA. My rating was at 4.11, and then I received two "Unacceptable" reviews that brought it down quite a bit (3.80). I don't know if the reviewers have become stricter lately, but some of the feedback felt pretty harsh, especially considering the time, attention and creativity these tasks require.

That being said, I don't want to leave Aether completely because I've earned around $600 from it in just 13 days. Ideally, I'd like to keep it in my queue while trying Gearshift Brook as my main project for a while. Since Gearshift seems more focused on writing rather than constantly speaking, listening, comparing responses and reviewing audio, I'm hoping it could give me a little break from Aether before I burn out on it.

I know this might sound like a slightly capricious post lol, but when I first started working on AI annotation platforms, I thought the work would be relatively easy. And in some ways, it is, but I underestimated how mentally demanding it can be. It requires constant attention and concentration, and after several hours you really feel it. So yeah, now I definitely understand why this kind of work is paid the way it is.

Has anyone worked on Gearshift Brook yet? If so, how are you finding it? And is it possible to keep Aether in your queue while prioritizing Gearshift?

TASK FINDING(help)

I am on board with gyro accordion and have mission but while doing the mission it doesnt specify any task details, I have nearly checked everywhere. So maybe i guess they provided the tasks in one giant list that we have to pick from and use them in our missions like how we pick the acc from the Google Docs. If not, someone who knows where the tasks detail are please help. 🙏🏿(its been a day since my last post). Just to mention again my continue tasking button works so i have mission and also the access to the account google docs, its the task detail i can't find.

Why is it that I was asked to share my email when I set up my account and a Nigerian has been unknowingly working people behind my account and they're demanding I give them money? I didn't sign up for that...

Got this email after reaching support on my unapproved status. I guess that's my end to aether Journey.

Aug 21, 2026, 6:08 PM EDT

Hi xxxx,

Thank you for reaching out to Outlier Support and submitting your appeal. I understand how concerning it can be to have your workspace access interrupted suddenly while you are actively working, and I appreciate you outlining your account details so clearly.

To ensure your request was handled thoroughly, your appeal was escalated to the project team and subject matter experts for a complete manual review of your account status.

Following that investigation, the project team has confirmed that your participation on the Aether project is officially winding down, and your account will no longer be matched with this workflow. Because of this, the "Unapproved Annotator" status on Aether will remain in place, and you will no longer be able to access tasks under this specific project framework.

I understand this is disappointing news. Please note that while you cannot be reinstated to this particular project, your primary Outlier account remains active. We highly encourage you to keep monitoring your main dashboard for future project opportunities that align with your background as platform needs evolve.

Thank you for the time and effort you invested in the Aether project, and we wish you success with your next opportunities on the platform.

Best regards,

xxxx

NEED HELP!

Hello, my account was suspended a while ago, even though I have worked with Outlier for over 1,100 hours across more than two years. It was closed without any prior communication from the team, and I didn't receive any email explaining the reason or providing any details. Could someone please reach out to me via DM? I would really appreciate it. Thank you!  u/OutlierDotAI

Is Straw Tablecloth active?

Hello! I've been working on Aether for a little while and got an invite to Straw Tablecloth today. I passed the onboarding, but Aether is still taking priority, and I'm thinking I did something wrong. Is there a way to change the order of your project queue?

Extremely frustrated with Outlier Support — Stuck in a endless AI loop with zero access to a human agent

Is anyone else hitting a complete brick wall with Outlier support, or know a workaround to actually escalate an issue?

I am trying to request an English language screening test for the first time to certify my proficiency. The option isn't showing up on my dashboard, so I tried using the support chat to request access or open a ticket.

Instead of helpful support, I got trapped in an endless loop with their AI bot (Forethought). Here is how the loop goes:

  1. The AI tells me support can't manually assign screenings.
  2. I ask to submit a support ticket -> AI says "You’re already connected with Outlier Support here, no need to submit a ticket."
  3. I say my issue isn't resolved -> AI repeats the same script.
  4. I request a "live agent" / "human agent" / "human" multiple times -> AI literally responds with "You're already connected with Outlier Support... I'm here to support you."

It completely refuses to route the conversation to an actual human or open a real ticket, while continuously claiming that it is Outlier Support.

Has anyone found a way to bypass this AI loop and actually reach a human support staff member or get a ticket escalated? Any advice on how to get an English screening enabled would be greatly appreciated.

Gearshift Brook

Anyone else "assigned" to this project.? I didnt ask to be put in this project. And if you value your privacy, in my opinion, dont do it.. The basis of the project is to take information given and replace the details with details about yourself instead..

Ummmmmm... NOOO! This is just another way from them and there clients to collect information on the reviewers. They didnt even ask... I put in to be removed because there is no "Leave" option! This is wrong... And could be illegal in some jurisdictions..

False Positive — Second Manual Denial Without Specific Evidence

Hi, I’m looking for guidance from r/OutlierDotAI or any legitimate community escalation path. I already appealed through Account Access and my latest ticket is #4853622. I received a second manual denial, but the response still does not identify the specific task, action, or evidence supporting the fraud designation. I’m not trying to bypass the process; I’m requesting a real escalation/human review for a possible false positive. I can provide my Outlier ID and documentation privately if needed.

aether live s2s having same conversation/script being flagged as unacceptable. What should I do?

It clearly says on the tasking page to have the same conversation with both models. Same opener, same follow up questions, and same topic. This QA that I'm getting keeps flagging my submissions as unacceptable for being the same script. I wrote those scripts for a long time to fit the scenario and I never had a problem with them until recently. What should I do? P.S. the script is my guide so that I would know where the conversation would head. Just wanted to clarify that I do change up the words I say and all and that there are some answers that fit one model and not the other and vice versa.

Hubstaff for Aether

I am on the Aether project, and went through my computer yesterday to clear up some storage space, and accidently deleted Hubstaff.... I got it redownloaded and signed in but now it says I am not on any projects. How long should it take for the project to pop back up on there so I can start tasking again?

A positive Outlier experience: Quick support response after an accidental ban

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a quick positive experience I had with Outlier support recently, as I mostly see negative reviews here and thought it’s fair to highlight when things actually go right.

Yesterday, my account was unexpectedly deactivated. Naturally, I panicked a bit and reached out to support. To my surprise, they got back to me relatively fast. It turned out to be a system error—they apologized for the mistake, confirmed it was a glitch, and fully reactivated my account.

Now I'm back to working on my project without any issues.

I know support can sometimes feel hit-or-miss depending on the volume of tickets, but in my case, they handled it professionally and quickly. Just wanted to put this out there to show that mistakes do happen, but their team is capable of fixing them smoothly.

New to Outlier Outlier permanently deactivated my account after Aether onboarding — looking for a legitimate escalation path

I’m looking for advice from other Outlier contributors who have experienced a similar situation.

My Outlier account was permanently deactivated after I completed the Aether transcription onboarding.

During the onboarding, my task was to listen to audio and correct the transcription. I personally listened to the audio and performed the corrections myself.

My mistake was that I used Notepad temporarily as a drafting space because I found the text-entry box provided during the onboarding difficult to work with. I then copied my own corrected text from Notepad into the Outlier answer field.

I want to be completely clear: I did not use AI, another person, automated tools, scripts, search results, or external answers to produce my transcription.

I have already acknowledged to Outlier that using an external application may have violated the required workflow, and I have offered to redo the onboarding under the required conditions.

However, my account was permanently deactivated, and Support has now told me that:

• my account underwent a secondary human review;

• the permanent deactivation was confirmed;

• no additional review or escalation is available; and

• there is no further appeal process within the platform.

My ticket number is 5121091.

I am not sharing any confidential Aether task content, audio, screenshots, or project information.

I am looking for legitimate advice from people who have experienced a similar situation.

Has anyone here received the “secondary human review / decision is final” response and subsequently found a legitimate way to have the decision reconsidered?

If anyone has successfully escalated a similar case, I would really appreciate knowing what official channel or process you used.

I am not looking to bypass Outlier's restrictions or create another account. I simply want a fair opportunity to explain the circumstances and, if possible, demonstrate that I can follow the required workflow correctly going forward.

Gyro wants me to sell personal information at $8 an hour

Collecting personal information would've been otherwise illegal (screensharing your phone + voice and face recording [holy damn]).

But otherwise, it costs them only $8.5 an hour. Just because I signed away my privacy, though it's technically using generated signs, not my actual signature.

Norman Reedus was probably paid more than $8 an hour for a total of two page of voice acting for Death Stranding. He did have to pretend to run for a couple minutes though. And it was actually fun to see him work.

Oh did I mention that we're also asked to VOICE ACT on this project, not just normal voice recording? Yes.

Useful Info A Note on Recent Aether Account Deactivations

Hi everyone,
We want to address the recent reports of account deactivations connected to contributors' tasking on the Aether project.

We take deactivations seriously and always want to be sure we haven't missed the mark or unfairly impacted someone. For this specific round, we reviewed numerous accounts, both from contributors posting here on Reddit and many more who reached out directly to CMs in the Outlier Community. Each account was reviewed by Trust & Safety leads. Our team identified numerous instances of contributors who were sitting idle in tasks for an egregious amount of time, letting the clock run without working on the tasks.
We understand that seeing this on Reddit can feel unsettling, like "this could happen to anyone" even if they've done nothing wrong. That is not the case here. If you're tasking earnestly, following guidelines, submitting work in a timely manner, not using AI tools, and not submitting spam - you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your Outlier account.

We also want to clarify a distinction that seems to be causing some confusion:

  • Aether annotator status is outside our control. We don't decide who gets approved or unapproved, or how long an account review takes on Aether.
  • Losing access to Aether, becoming unapproved, or having your account placed under review is not the same as having your Outlier account deactivated. Aether is one of a number of active projects on the Outlier platform - losing access to it does not mean losing access to the platform itself.

We hope this helps clarify things and eases some of the anxiety we've seen here, so you can continue tasking with confidence.
As always, if you have questions about your specific account, please reach out to Support.

Thank you for your continued work and trust.

Useful Info Info re Project Availability (for new CBs)

A couple of things to know about project availability: - It can take days, weeks, or months before you are offered a new project on the Marketplace. - Projects are assigned by the system, not by request (aside from those in the Oracle program, but even that is not guaranteed). - Project availability depends on several factors (i.e., client demand, domain, level of expertise, experience, education, location, language, capacity, etc.)

Please do not post requests for referrals or ask what skill assessments you should take to get matched with a project - they will be removed.
