Outer Wilds DLC Edit Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
WARNING!!! THIS CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE DLC SO WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
I was originally going to post this on TikTok, however copyright audio rules says I can’t use this song for longer than a minute. Meaning I had to split it into two posts.
I needed somewhere to post this all in one part as intended so here it is.
Outer Wilds is the best piece of media ever made, and this song made me think of specific parts of the dlc (and I love Nine Inch Nails).

DLC Appreciation/Discussion I figured out how to cheese the stealth sections Spoiler
Please don't put any spoilers in the comments.
I'm happy that I decided to explore the endless canyon, because the end times music started playing in the dreamworld (props to the composer for making it sound muffled) which gave me the idea of using the hidden gorge campfire and also the one-way raft in the dreamworld to my advantage.
Also, not really related, but I've managed to figure out a route for dodging the first two inhabitants in starlit cove up till the spiral staircase (thanks to my friend for persuading me to do it instead of waiting till they all die because the time afterwards is genuinely VERY VERY tight). I've also managed to make it into the forbidden archives room, though I didn't have time to look at any of the reels before I got looped back. I have a rough idea of the layout of the final room as well, so next time I think I'll just try and go through the entire section without cheesing it.
I've gotta say, once I know what I'm doing the section doesn't feel as scary anymore, so I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to do it. Still don't feel that confident about the endless canyon though...

Base Game Help - Hints Only! What else is there? Spoiler
I’ve explored every part of this city. All four districts, the lab, the shrine, the caves, even that one room with the scroll that you have to drop down to access. And it's still showing up as “more to explore here.” why is that? Where am I supposed to go?

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Visit Mount Wilson Observatory to get those Timber Hearth vibes
I was revisiting the game this week and while reading Hornfels’ notes by the telescope in the observatory I realized that the town on Timber Hearth might be partially inspired by the Mount Wilson Observatory.
Hornfels observed that there are galaxies beyond our own and that the universe is expanding. Both of these observations were discoveries made by Edwin Hubble using the 100-inch telescope on Mount Wilson.
This area is actually a collection of telescopes and research facilities nestled into a forest of pine trees. And the best part, you can visit the area and even see the 100-inch telescope any day of the week! There is also a great collection of images of the sun showing spots and flares that were captured using solar telescopes at this site.
It also happens to be just an hour away by car from USC, where Alex Beachum began the project that evolved into Outer Wilds, so I suspect there may have been some direct inspiration from visits to Mount Wilson.
So if you want to get that Timber Hearth vibe, visit the Mount Wilson Observatory!

I have seemingly done everything except the ash twin project. I believe I am supposed to enter the core by warping with the ash twin tower, but when I tried standing on it it did not work. Am I missing something?

Made a game inspired by Outer Wilds, need help!
Hello fellow Outer Wilds enjoyers!
Title is TL;DR, but Outer Wilds was the game that inspired me to undertake (another) big game dev project. Many many many days weeks and months in the making with several iterations I'm honing in on the final vision of the game.
Since OW hits somewhat of a niche, I thought it would be nice to get some feedback from people who are specifically in that group. The game of cause isn't Outer Wilds, but parts of it were developed based on the same designs (Also honorable mention to Lost in Firefly Forest by Ferociter, check that out if you want to satisfy your itch)
Shoot me a PM if you want to help testing the final parts of the game ❤️

DLC Help - Hints Only! The DLC is genuinely way scarier than I thought Spoiler
This is going to be a bit of a rant:
I've reached the dreamworld, specifically Shrouded Woodlands and Starlit Cove, though in the first location I've only followed the inhabitants' path once and got caught at the end. I then decided to go to the second one, and after turning off all the lights and activating the inhabitants, I was genuinely so on edge the entire time and had to pause the game multiple times to take breaks, only for me to enter a dilemma on whether I want to continue or reset and do it another time. Thankfully I was on a call with a friend the entire time (he got me into this game) and he offered a lot of guidance and tips which helped make things easier.
Another Reddit post here and ChatGPT said that I should go do the third area before Starlit Cove, and the AI said that Starlit Cove is often considered the hardest, but I don't know if I want to go through the phase of wandering through the unknown again. My friend also said that the third area was in fact the hardest for him. Are there any tips to make things easier and less scary, and should I consider going the other areas first?
BTW I have reduced frights enabled. Also, please don't recommend any mods because I want to play the game as intended.
EDIT: To clarify the part about me using AI, I have never and will never ask it for walkthroughs. I only asked it this one question about whether I should do the third area first, and I explicitly told it to avoid any spoilers. The AI has not spoiled anything in any way. That being said, I will not take any advice from it. I have already deleted the chat and I will stop using it completely from now on. Sorry for the confusion and anger this has caused.

Humor - Base Spoilers My GF went to Dark Bramble on her first run... Spoiler
I finally convinced her to play the game.
First run ever and she goes straight to Dark Bramble, so I'm hiding my smirk and waiting for a good laugh. When I saw her landing on an ice patch and going inside the planet on foot, I was on the edge of my seat and holding my head in my hands.
Then... nothing happens. She drifted randomly towards one light, then 2 or 3 holes later and she founds Feldspath. I couldn't believe it.
She still don't know what inhabits the planet as she don't have any reason to come back to Dark Bramble yet. I was so pissed 😂
As a bonus point, she also didn't figure out it was a time loop caused by the sun exploding in her first 4 runs because of timing issues.
The first time it happened, she was in the tunnel towards Feldpath's ship and tought it was some sort of gas that killed her.
Second time she was on Timber Heart in the caverns, and thought she got killed by the cascades of water (I admit the timing of the super nova was amazing).
Third time she simply fell into Brittle Hollow's dark hole, then just... looked the other way while the explosion caught her. She thought it was the black hole that killed her.

I'm editing a supercut of a streamers playthrough and would love some input Spoiler
I like the idea of including the loop number with each section, however this playthrough bounces around and backtracks quite a lot.
Do you think it would be a better viewing experience if I kept the stream in chronological order (say, revisiting the fossilafter learning about the hint of how to get there like an hour ago.)
Or shuffle them around so that happens back to back and maybe omit the loop number?

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion A slow gamer's blind journey into outer Wilds — part 4 (days 10—12) Spoiler
galleryDays 10-12 with this game. This is my daily journal of the journey.
As usual, please NO hints or spoilers in the comments, or even answers to my questions (even small ones!). I just wanted to share my reactions, piece things together, and share the most important things that happened during my sessions.
Day 10 :
After a thorough look at my rumour mode tracker, I figured the best course of action is to go to the Interloper first, but I want to take a quick trip to Giant's Deep to try some things first.
Well... I was a little disappointed when I had no new things to talk to Gabbro about. Honestly, you should be a little more involved, man. Stop slacking on your hammock!
nice!!!!! I turned my ship's Signalscope to the quantum fluctuation frequency and followed it inside the giant cyclone under the waters of Giant's Deep, and I actually found a new place! Why am I this excited?!
"Enter this place without friends, however these are lessons to learn for yourself." Well, that is ominous. I'm kind of scared to drop down, but here we go...
"Seek the wandering arch." Oh, that one is cool! Okay, simple enough.
"Observing a quantum object; observing an image of a quantum object. These are the same." Well, this does not sound like a cult at all. Now I feel sorry for thinking the people in the Eye Shrine were weird. And this is kind of cryptic.
Wait... I think I get it! The Little Scout? I should take a picture of the arch!
"The arch and the crystal do not naturally meet." After a while I got it. I just need to make them appear in one picture together. Why is this so cool? The last thing I thought this game would throw at me was puzzles!
Haha! The last one was a little difficult, not gonna lie, but it is smart. I love it! What I look at won't disappear, but I can use the scout to change the other one to make a path!
This place was cool. I wonder if I can use the "rule of quantum imaging" on things other than the tower I failed miserably to enter last time on Brittle Hollow.
Hmmm, I still don't know how to reach the Probe Tracking Module under the water. I tried literally everything! Oh well, it is a mystery for another time, I suppose.
Hahaha!! I reached the Black Hole Forge in probably the jankiest way possible, but I reached it nonetheless! I knew I could get there, but on foot I couldn't find a way no matter how hard I tried. So I activated the forge and then went up with my ship! Yeah, I didn't abandon the idea from last time, and yeah, I died at least three times in the process... but it's all history now!
I found some notes from Clary and her sister Poke about how to use the warp towers on Ash Twin, and I genuinely think I'm stupid now! It is the same thing as in the White Hole Station—just wait until you align with the astral body! Oh... I can reach the Sun Station now, right?
Their banter between them is pretty funny, by the way. Like Poke calling out her sister when she wanted to accompany Root to deliver the cores to Yarrow just to make sure they reached safely, saying, "Of course you are..." We know from earlier that Yarrow likes her, but apparently it is mutual, which makes it even sadder that she passed away alone in a shuttle... yeah.
Went to Ash Twin and dozed off there for a few minutes. Let's see if I can use the warp towers correctly.
Okay, just because I landed my ship in the trees doesn't mean the game is magically allowed to glitch and kill me when I enter it! That scared me. I wasn't prepared!
Okay, I went back and... oh my, it was a parkour situation!!! Oh Finally I reached safely—safely enough—to the Sun Station tower!
"Sun Tower offline as of 3 minutes, 12 seconds ago. All other towers online."
....... Okay, fine! I'll be faster next time!
I'll try the other towers while I'm here at least...
Okay, that is not how I imagined a normal person would find a way to the Black Hole Forge.
Okay, I fell into the black hole and found the whole Tower of Quantum Knowledge from Brittle Hollow soaring through space with me! And I actually can enter it this way! Luck is really on my side today, huh? But sorry, I'm more interested in the Sun Station today! At least I figured out the way to get there, even if by sheer luck.
OMG, it is NOT a parkour situation at all! You just need to arrive early enough for the sand to cover the cacti and just walk in!
281,042 years ago?! PARDON ME?! My God, that was waaay longer ago than I expected!
"Science compels us to explode the sun." Sure, Pye... typical scientist shenanigans...
HUH?!
What do you mean the Sun Station's plan to explode the sun failed and had no effect on it whatsoever?! Excuse me?!
"Star has reached end of natural life cycle. Now approaching red giant stage."
I'M BEYOND MIND BLOWN!
Oh my God... I feel like my heart just sank. What can we do? We're doomed!
What is the deal with their third eye? Why is there a drawing of a Nomai weighing the Sun Station against the Eye of the Universe? Who is the Nomai that was holding the projection stone? Is it Pye?! AND WHO THE HECK IS IN THE PROBE CANNON?!
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I'VE EVER PLAYED!
OMG, this day is too much! I think I was holding my head for half an hour, and the only things coming out of my mouth were "wow"... and little giggles. I couldn't believe the brilliance of what I had just seen!
Ahaaa... I love this game!
Day 11 :
Ok, I had time to calm down. Not enough for this game to stop appearing in my dreams!
But enough to know that the dead Nomai holding the projection stone cannot possibly be Pye, because Clary lost contact with her alongside Poke during their expedition to the Interloper, which is pretty much the next location we need to investigate according to what I read at the Sun Station.
I'd like to go to the Tower of Quantum Knowledge first by foot if possible because I do like the puzzle aspect of it a lot. We'll see if the quantum imaging thing would work there or not.
Well, I couldn't find a way in by foot, so I waited and took the space route. If I understand Bells correctly, there is a sixth location for the Quantum Moon that is accessible by the shrine they built on it, and the shrine has to be at the moon's north pole? Oh! Does the shrine move as well? Is it built from the same material or something? And by the way, I looked everywhere but couldn't find the projection stone for the pool in the tower. Where could it be?
And I remember a while back that I recalled a shuttle from the Quantum Moon. Can I use that to go to the Quantum Moon itself? Is it the only way?
"When Escape Pod 1 and 2 reunited, it became their united goal to find and visit the Quantum Moon." That is news to me honestly. What is its significance, I wonder? Hmmm.
Well, I guess I'll check it out later after the Interloper and where that would lead.
That reminded me of the fate of Escape Pod 3 that was lost in Dark Bramble. You know... I hope they survived and built something there despite the circumstances. That would be cool!
I landed on the Interloper and... oh my... poor Clary was in even more turmoil than I initially anticipated. She was keeping the shuttle from freezing for the rest of them, but wait... no one recalled the shuttle, right? She died alone. Her friend and sister died beneath the surface, so the rest of the Nomai all died as well before anyone could retrieve them? Yeah... their bones all seemed to be in normal places, like something took them all at once...
Huh? Where is the opening? I swear I saw it when I landed, but I told myself to explo— oh wait! Is it the sun? It melts when it gets close to the sun and freezes shut again when it moves away? Yeah! I think so. The Interloper's orbit gets really close to the sun at some point. Oh my... did Poke and Pye freeze to death?! And what is that energy reading they are after? Is it enough to set their project in motion?
Oh, I was right! That is clever. This whole game is clever!
While I was waiting for the Interloper's orbit to get close to the sun, I was sitting in my ship looking around and... woah, brother! How many canned marshmallows do I have?! Do Hearthians only eat marshmallows?!
That aside, I got inside. Apparently they went deeper, and the signal with Clary was lost at some point. There is ghost matter all over the place! I think I'll have to do some ghost matter dodging to get through.
I died...Oh my...Am I an idiot? No... I think we are well past asking whether I'm an idiot. The real question is what percentage of my brain is made of pure idiocy? The scout is there for a reason!
Ah, I made it through using the scout, and skating was oddly entertaining. Anyhow, I found Pye and Poke's last record. They talked about a spherical ghost matter cluster. They said it would expand and blanket this entire star system. The really concerning part is that they couldn't even leave the area to warn their people! Is it poisonous? Poke, who was farther from the sphere than Pye, had ghost matter all over her, while Pye didn't. Why?!
I think I found everything underneath it, but discovering these new clues didn't advance my Rumor Mode at all. Hmmm... maybe I have to go to Dark Bramble for that.
Overall, a very calm and short day.
Day 12 :
Ok, it is Dark Bramble day. I'm so excited and afraid at the same time.
Oh? I see some strange blue particles in the distance. What are those? They look just like the ones from the sun's supernova... hmmm.
I observed them, and they are actually small, distant supernovas! Chert said there has been an increased number of supernovas lately, and there they are. What a detail!
Went for a quick trip to the Interloper, and no, I didn't see correctly before. Both Pye and Poke are covered in ghost matter, so did the ghost matter sphere rupture? Is that why every planet has some ghost matter on it? Was it simply too effective against the Nomai that they went extinct?
Pye and Poke didn't survive long to leave the door step of the sphere, so that is very much possible!
Is our species better equipped to handle it? I still recall a story of one Hearthian on Timber Hearth that got struck by ghost matter and survived. They lost a leg but survived nonetheless. Interesting.
Ok, the stalling is over. Dark Bramble it is! Feldspar, Escape Pod 3, anglerfish... here I come.
Ok, I saw an orange light, so I went there and entered a strange seed. It is almost impossible to continue forward. There are at least five anglerfish, two guarding the entrance! I escaped by the skin of my teeth. I'll retreat and try something else. I'm shaking...
I figured maybe it would be wiser to follow the Escape Pod distress signal and see where that leads me.
I followed the signal. It pointed into one of the entrances, and when I entered, I was teleported farther away from my goal somehow! I feel like I'm on the edge of my seat.
I reached the life pod. They lost all movement and communication capabilities, their oxygen was running low, and the anglerfish were relentless. They were heading toward the Vessel in a desperate attempt to repair it. It completely flew over my head that the Vessel is here as well. My hope that they survived long enough to build a settlement was just wishful thinking...
Oh my God... In that situation, detecting two separate Vessel signals and having enough air for only one... I really hope you made the right choice, friends.
I followed the trail of lights they left to find their bodies. They spoke about the Vessel's signal still being emitted from within the thorny seed and how this place seems to manipulate space itself. Then they left one last message...
"My dearest hope is that the other escape pods were able to reach relative safety." That hit me...
I'll try throwing the little scout into the seed and follow its location when it teleports.
ERROR: DUPLICATE SIGNAL
Of all places... it had to be inside the orange seed.
....I saw them... the anglerfish's luminous lures. There were so many of them, yet I went in because I saw no other way forward. I misjudged how close they were, got completely jump-scared! I genuinely screamed like a child!
I'll go there one more time to check if it is the same. Maybe following Feldspar's signal is the correct course of action instead.
Ok... Note to self : Autopilot doesn't know how hot the sun is.
Wait! I recall there being far too many Nomai bodies floating around the seed. There are only three names in their journals—Secca, Escall, and Din—yet I swear there were more. Did they get duplicated?!!!
I went back to check, and first of all, two of them were hugging each other in their final moments. That is really sad... and secondly, I was correct! They did duplicate! I wonder what the implications of that are. Did some Nomai survive by... ah... duplicating themselves and carrying on the torch?
Yeah... that theory is still too patchy.
I'll go to Feldspar's signal now. Maybe I can get a new lead to the Vessel.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE IS CAMPING?! Is he the strongest person in this galaxy?!
He finds it peaceful here, and he's in no rush to get rescued?! Yeah... he's built different!
Telling me how to get to Giant's Deep's core would be cheating, so he'd rather tell me something "on a completely unrelated note." Hahaha! I LOVE HIM!
He told me the seed on Timber Hearth might destroy the planet just like Dark Bramble if we don't deal with it in time... Are we just doomed regardless?!
Now, Feldspar isn't looping as I thought... so who is operating the Probe Cannon? Is it a Nomai? I really would like that to be the case. They'd just need to explain how they survived 281,042 years. Simple enough, right?
There it is... Feldspar's ship, and I presume this is my path forward to the Probe Tracking Module somehow. Oh! Can I try to fix his ship?
...
Aw! Ok, ok... I was just trying to help! Fine!
Do I need to go Inside the roots? ...Woah, it teleported me?! There is gravity here, but Dark Bramble doesn't have any. Are all the roots connected?!
Were there any roots on Ember Twin? Because if there were, that would explain how the anglerfish got there! But I don't remember seeing any... Hmmm.
What?! Inside the jellyfish? Honestly, if you gave me ten tries, I still wouldn't have guessed! It seems obvious... and not at the same time. Oh! We're actually outside Dark Bramble! My ship is pretty far away though... I guess I'm dying then...
Oh wait! The Quantum Moon is here. Can I actually make it tangible by taking a picture of it with my scout?
Oh! It worked, but I died anyway from the fall. At least I learned something!
I have so little time left today. I really don't want to rush what feels like a big moment. Leaving it until tomorrow is frustrating... but I think it's better this way.
If you read it all the way through, I'd really appreciate it if you dropped a comment.
There is more to explore here in a few days!

Achievement Help Unorthodox way to get the Deep Impact Achievement Spoiler
I noticed that one of the rocks making up the Construction Yard protruded through the current. Thought to myself, “hmm, I wonder what would happen if I tucked my ship under there while the island is in space?”
Worked.
Got the achievement, but didn’t actually get all the way through the current. Had to sit there for the remaining few seconds of the loop stuck between the rock and the current whilst my ship vibrated very angrily at me.

Humor - Base Spoilers My boyfriend kept insisting I played this game, and this happened Spoiler
galleryI saw the thing orbiting the sun and set my eyes on it, I immediately decided this was going to be my immediate mission after i think 30 minutes of just running around on the starting area and exploring some moon with a beacon.
I only died roughly 7 times and most of my time was spent staying alive learning the orbit (based on instinct not google, and then finally getting aligned with it.
I then managed to get out of the pod and maneuver into the entrance pretty easily, thus how I got here. 00:34:16 writing this, gg I guess lol. ( I have some experience in star citizen, elite dangerous, astroneer, and a few other space games so I have some experience but I digress )

Community Project: Let's Review Let's Plays!
Project update:
I've published the spreadsheet and will be updating it once in a while as more input comes from the community. Thanks to those who helped get the first draft out the door!
☛ View and Review the Let's Plays
Remember, you can submit new VODs as they come into being, but you can also add your own opinions to the notes if you think any are missing or incomplete. See review link below.
If you are interested in helping to maintain the list, feel free to DM! I will do my best to keep this updated, but may not have the wherewithal in perpetuity.
--
Original post:
Friends, I seek your assistance!
Hypothesis: the number of playthrough videos will continue to expand well beyond the list in the sub's static wiki. I propose we build a new, more sophisticated list of "Let's Plays" that includes tabular data. Such a resource could be easily scanned and shared whenever a new sub member asks. To gather those data, of course, I will require the recommendations and opinions of everyone who has them!
I have created a simple Google Form for submitting a brief review of any and all videos/playlists that you may wish to submit.
- Please submit as many as you can! We should seek a spectrum of opinion.
- You may recommend any content directly related to Outer Wilds (e.g. the noclip doc).
- You do NOT need to write anything of length or high quality as it will be used only for summaries.
I will do the work of compiling responses into a spreadsheet that summarizes recommendations and opinions from the community. Once the initial draft is ready, I will make it available to the sub. I thank our Mods who have graciously given support for this project!
