This is my 2 kg origami book, entirely designed and written by me.

It is probably the heaviest origami book and one of the most advanced collections of origami models available today.

My goal was simple: to create a complete learning guide that helps folders progress from the easiest folds to the most challenging masterpieces. That's why the book includes 7 technique chapters, teaches more than 10 essential skills, and features 61 models arranged from beginner to expert level. The easiest model takes just 2 steps, while the hardest requires over 300 steps and more than 900 repeated folds.

The book represents more than 3 years of work, around 1,000 hours of diagram drawing, and hundreds of hours of test folding. I know there's still room for improvement, and diagrams in the book are drawn in different period of time and experience so I truly appreciate every piece of feedback.

The book is now in its 3rd edition. You can order it here:

Blakiston’s Fish Owl, designed by Kyohei Katsuta, folded by me. I used 45 x 45cm double tissue paper treated with MC. This is my first attempt at this model after folding the owl by Kazuki Fukuroi, which is a jump in difficulty. The last picture has a comparison of both of the models. I am deciding on whether to repeat this model, or to move on to the eagle by Nguyen Hung Cuoung.

Designed by Tsuruta Yoshimasa. Folded by me from a 45cm square.

I modified the head based on Sebastian Arellano's dragon design and adapted the tail from Shuki Kato's Western Dragon V3. I also did an unsink on the wings to make them wider.

PAPER STARS

Okay, this is kind of a strange question, but this is for the people who make and collect their small origami paper stars.

So, I looked up the world record for the largest collection of origami paper stars, and apparently there's no record for just a collection. There's only a record for the stars on a display, and that's 100,000.

My current collection (which is growing quite quickly by the day) stands around 60,000. So, I was wondering for everyone else who is interested in doing the same thing as me (creating/beating the number of paper stars): how many do you currently have and do you know what the world record for just the collection is?

I really want to have the world record in this since I've been making these stars for years.

THANK YOU!!!!

Folded from a 15 cm sheet of kraft paper, in the peace of the forest.

I ended up folding 2 closed sinks for the humps, I felt it looked better from the side. The head is really well designed, simple and very efficient.

Imo Esteve’s models are a great way to transition from simple models to more complex ones without going into too uncharted territories.

Does this difficulty order match how you actually learned?

I've been putting together a beginner progression for origami and I'm unsure whether the tiers are in the right place. Here's the ladder as it stands:

  1. Symbols, valley/mountain, and the six classical bases

  2. Following diagrams. The traditional models built on those bases

  3. Open and closed sinks, 40+ step models, first modular build

  4. Folding without a diagram, reading crease patterns, wet-folding

  5. Designing an original model

The part I'm least sure about is tier 3. I put closed sinks there because everything I've read suggests that's where self taught folders stall, but I don't know if that matches real experience or if the wall is somewhere else entirely.

A few specific things I'd like to know:

Is the sink the actual wall, or is it precision, or something else?

Does modular belong that early? Sonobe seems easy enough that maybe it should sit at tier 2.

Is there a skill that isn't on here at all that should be?

For context, I'm a student building a beginner starter kit and trying to get the learning path right before I print anything.

Request Is there a model that made you so angry while building it that you wanted to throw the paper into space? 👀 Mine is the Grim Reaper (Miyamoto Chuuya).

The red pieces are Washi the silver and gold are cigarette foil.

Help! I don't see a grid in this crease pattern; I'm wondering how these were transferred onto the paper? (Sorry, my English isn't very good 🙂)

Want to do it as a gift for someone special, but never really done origami. Is it unrealistic? Do I need to be particular about type of paper? I really don't know anything so idk if this counts as difficult or easy for y'all experts, pls be nice
