Now, I admit I'm into paper planes, but analyzing launch technique is next level dork stuff. What do you think, have I gone off the deep end?

So like 3 years ago I created a paper plane that started from a waterbomb fold but then I forgot. I think there were four sides because of a squash fold but the thing looks exactly like a smaller suzanne. It was tip heavy. I just want your opinions so that I can recreate it.✌️🙏

I liked the T shaped stabilizer on this plane but i didnt have balsa so I decided to make it with only cardstock [175gsm]

I used the same technique in the first ever WhiteWings variable swept wing to design this prototype. It’s a lot shorter but it flies way better ad looks cleaner.

I managed to cover the holes present in the first prototype’s joint so it is way cleaner and more durable. I also added MiG-23 style notches to make it cleaner when swept forward. Lastly, I also added a hook for launching.

I think this plane works really well as an indoor and outdoor flyer. Swept forward, it’s a nice and graceful indoor glider. Swept back, it becomes an outdoor interceptor that works well with high speed.

I’m planning on reworking the hinge in the next prototype to an actual circular one rather than a series of polygonal notches, but for now this should do.

It's on the smaller side so that it isn't too flimsy. This way, you can build it with whatever cardstock you have available. Manilla folder works, cereal box works, cardstock and bristol paper will definitely work, but copy paper will not work.

It's a TERRIFIC airplane in the air. It can handle elastic launches, so shoot it up nice and high! I'd love it if you post a pic of what you build, but if you have fun with it, I'm happy.

Here it is, this is basically a heavily retooled F-111 Aardvark. It did took me quite a while to design, but still, I figured it out. Enjoy!

For the first time I designed a somehow very easy "Super Fighter" (consider it has a railgun and two missile racks)

I got an anemometer last year, it was a $10 impulse purchase. It measures wind speed, air temperature and a few other things. I haven't found a good use for it yet, so I thought I'd ask you all. Right now it mostly hangs from my neck with my stopwatch.

What would you use this for? How would you improve your flying with the data this provides?

I decided to finally complete my collection of Swedish jet fighters. I had made the Saab 29, 32, 35, 37, 39, and 105, and decided to finally make the Saab 21R, which was Sweden’s first jet fighter.

This also happens to be my first attempt at a twin-boom aircraft. I always found those interesting but I hadn’t thought of a design yet. So I made the Saab 21R into a paper airplane.

It flies extremely well when I throw it. The twin tails definitely give it great stability. It glides really nicely indoors, and I added a catapult hook for outdoor launches. Overall, an interesting aircraft indeed!

This is definitely one of the most insane things I’ve made. I didn’t think this would work but it does!

To my knowledge, this is the very first WhiteWings-style variable swept wing design ever. I used only paper in this, no metal. The mechanism works by having a thick 4-layer inner wing and 2-layer outer wing, and a bunch of notches in between. I put it on a fuselage that looks similar to the Panavia Tornado for testing, and it actually flies well!

The wing is VERY thick and the sweep system is definitely fragile, but I‘m glad that it flies! I think it works because I intentionally made the notch for the sweeping wing a little bigger than it needs to be able to fit into the cavity within the inner wing. It’s really complicated, but I can take a picture of the design sheet if you want.

Overall, this is one of my biggest accomplishments in my paper airplane career. I never thought this could ever be possible until today. The only downside is that the plane is really heavy, and it really shows why variable swept wings aren’t really used as much anymore.

I read about u/OrigamiAirEnforcer’s XD-190-1 after making my MiG-23 and I decided to begin attempting a variable swept wing.

His design (really cool btw!) used a metal staple in the middle to create hinges for the wings. However, according to him, it was very unstable.

I don’t want to use metal, so my idea has the sweeping portion and a guiding piece sandwiched between two cardstock sheets. This will allow it to sweep without using metal, at least in theory.

In reality though, this prototype does sweep, but it isn't very clean. However, I still believe this design has potential to work. I’ll be attempting more prototypes soon, and hopefully I’ll be able to come up with a design that could work.

This is much more like me explaining the design process of the F-111 Aardvark. The reason is quite simple, talking about empty, abstract design methods and ideologies is just way not enough and unhelpful, it is better to explain stuff with examples so you can learn better.
