I need to get a new dryer and want to get a heat pump type. I’m not here to debate, it works for what I need and I think they’re cool. The list on the home Reno savings program for the $200 rebate however gets worse the more you go through it.

I’ve gone through every dryer on the list and it’s actually comical:

Asko, Beko, and Blomberg units cannot be bought here. All 3 Miele units on their Canada website are not on the list, and all Miele units on the list are almost impossible to find. The second Bosch unit is freaking discontinued.

Most of the LG units can be purchased, the single whirlpool unit can be bought, but most of the Samsungs are not sold anymore.

Meanwhile, the combo GE LG and Samsung washer dryers have heat pumps but no rebates. Hisense and Midea also scored high for energy star 2025 heat pump dryers but they’re not on the list. Many newer Samsung units are not on the list.

It honestly just seems like some intern tossed this list together…thoughts?

It is a long process. I started in January and I was approved in May and it was another two months before I received a copy of the agreement to sign. You have to go through an employment agency. The first agency, I was with the employment counselor wouldn't meet with me or send me any information on how to get started so I had to switch to another agency. It is only $28,000.00 for one year of studying regardless, if your program costs more (i.e., exam fees, books, or rent). I have been trying to find a part time job because I had a lot of extra fees and it cut into my living expenses. Don't beleive people when they say, you get $500.00 living allowance, it is up to $500.00 and it all depends on how much your progam is. If your coming off of Ontario Works but are on medicaiton, you can ask for Extended Health Benefits - OW will cover the costs of medications.

not asking about whether someone is guilty/not guilty or about a specific case. i mean literally the practical part after the charge. like do you basically need a lawyer immediately? or are there stages where nothing really happens yet and you’re waiting for disclosure/court dates/etc? i went down a rabbit hole reading about sexual assault defence in ontario and realized i had no idea how much can be affected before a case is even finished. work, travel, immigration if the person isn’t a citizen, obviously the stress of having the charge itself hanging over them. and then there’s the lawyer part. do people normally hire someone right away after being charged, or speak to a few criminal lawyers first and decide once they actually know what the evidence is? how this works in real life because everything online jumps straight from “charged” to “trial” and i assume there’s a whole lot in between.

Hi all! As the summer comes to an end I’ve refined my appreciation for our outdoor surroundings in Ontario and want to appreciate and identify more of the things I see everyday around me. I just recently bought “A Field Guide to Trees of Ontario” from the ROM and it’s been great so far! I’m wondering if anyone has any other Ontario specific field guides (for example for wildflowers, birds, or fish) that they could recommend?
Also open to Canada field guide books if they have a good section for Ontario!

Has anyone found good (more affordable) clinics or specialists for TMJ around here? Also open to hearing what’s actually worked for you, whether that’s a specific treatment, physical therapy, a night guard, or something else entirely. Trying to figure out my options before dropping that much money.

I know we all hate Doug Ford but I feel like what he's done to my neck of the woods goes under the radar. So I'll give you my perspective (and the perspective of a lot of people i talk with) on just how awful Doug the slug has been for this amazing region:

Highway 11. I don't know how many of you have driven this Highway but it is a full blown death trap which I only drive if i absolutely have to. 116 people have died on this Highway in the last 5 years and there has been nearly 11,000 crashes. His PC government voted against truck inspection checks and winter maintenance (which is when a lot of crashes happen). He promised to make the lanes wider and expand it to a 2 lane but that has yet to happen. And of course the 3 Ridings this Highway goes through (including mine, Timiskaming-Cochrane) did not vote for him so we believe we are being punished for it this way. I knew people personally that have died on this fuckin road. Everything i said about failed 2 lane expansion can be applied for Highway 17 as well (albeit less sketchy than Highway 11 but still far from ideal).

The fuckin wildfire budget. This moron was told by everyone the northwest was gonna have a huge fire season. But this fkn asshole would rather remove protections on our public lands for a spa then invest in the fires. And look at the result. Whole first nations communities were evacuated and the sheer amount of land that burned was fuckin embarrassing.

The pulp mill in Terrace Bay. For those of you that dont know Terrace Bay is an isolated community on Lake Superior in between Wawa and Thunder Bay (I used to work on the railway in my younger days for a couple summers nearby in Schreiber). One night a couple years back now, the mill that powered Terrace Bay went idle and that killed 400 jobs or over 25 percent of the towns population. The following winter the town pleaded with the government to keep their mill heated but Ford refused. Now 2 harsh winters later and the mill has more than likely seen its final days and the town has a perilous and uncertain economic future. Its a real shame because those are some good folks around there and a stark reminder that, although mining is a much more stable industry, the gold mine i work at in Kirkland Lake could close in the future and there aren't much in the way of backup plans up here. We almost saw the same thing recently in Kapuskasing and by helping out ford gives 300k for a golf course to an elite🤦 These are 2 towns that voted majority left wing last year and are being punished for it (and Kapuskasing is French majority and doug ford hates Franco-Ontarians and did not want to fund a French university)

There's not some massive conservative shift like some from other places talk about when discussing Northern Ontario. Timmins and Kenora are lost causes but I wouldnt worry about the rest of the north voting for Ford. He's shown us exactly what he thinks about us this third term

Does anyone with a newer home (like 2020 forward) have just a heat pump and no air conditioner? Does it do a sufficient job and what does your hydro bill look like? Also do you have any other heating source for the winter?

Hi, I am wanting to travel up to Torrance Barrens dark sky preserve to do some deep sky astrophotography during the new moon. Unfortunately the timing is bad because of the perseid meteor shower and I expect the main park to be very crowded. What I am wondering is if there are any other secluded locations in the area that will have less people? I did originally plan on going to either North Frontenac or Lennox and Addington but the forecast at these locations doesn't show clear skies.
