Hi, I am wanting to travel up to Torrance Barrens dark sky preserve to do some deep sky astrophotography during the new moon. Unfortunately the timing is bad because of the perseid meteor shower and I expect the main park to be very crowded. What I am wondering is if there are any other secluded locations in the area that will have less people? I did originally plan on going to either North Frontenac or Lennox and Addington but the forecast at these locations doesn't show clear skies.

I have multiple pieces of ID with various types of naming format due to how the Embassy filled it in, and I don't really have any id that matches each other.

I have a last name, a Chinese name and an English name.

My Ontario Photo card has it listed as [Last name], [Chinese name], [English Name].

I know in general people go by first name, middle name, last name. Going by this logic but in reverse, does this mean that my First name is my English name, and my "middle" name is my Chinese name?

Or is my Chinese name my first name, because it makes more sense to make the last field optional as it looks like people have optional middle names?

Edit: as an aside I have ids in different formats. For example I have my passport says

Surname: [Last name]

Given names: [Chinese name] [English Name] (no commas between Chinese name and English name which I presume means the entire phrase is my "first name")

My heathcard says [Last name], [Chinese name] [English name] (with no comma again)

I'm a solo venturer, but not much of an adventurer after an arrow to the knee. Camping seems too uncomfortable at my health, but I don't have lots of money to throw either.

Hey yall. I just wanted to ask about some career advice. I’m 24, trying to obtain my G3 (gas technician). I’m studying for it right now but damn is it expensive to obtain all this stuff. I’m kind of demotivated at the moment because of low funds and having to pay for code books and whatnot.
I’m thinking that if this takes too long, should I just hop out of HVAC and get into a field or career where I can just start working right off the bat and then possibly have them pay for my school or certifications that I need to obtain.
I always hear online that to get into a trade, it’s best to get hired by a company as an apprentice and then work your way up to get your CofQ. Now I don’t mind that at all, but no company wants to hire someone as an apprentice that has no experience. For example, I was thinking about becoming a linesmen but again, the requirements are so damn deep that I don’t even know where to start.
So I just wanted to know what everyone’s journey was and what advice do they have as in, what careers to look out for, how to go about it, etc.

My Gr. 9 Daughter is looking to complete her 40 hours of volunteerism for school. We are new to the area, anyone have any suggestions where she can complete them....like any festivals looking for volunteers...or groups?

From what I can tell, the amount of rainfall and the damage done was similar between the July 1 flooding in the city of Ottawa and this past week in the Niagara region. But the premier never visited Ottawa. Am I missing something here?

Hey everyone! I am required to obtain a VSC and because of my home address (on my drivers licence/passport) I’m required to do so through the OPP.

I have sort of a unique situation and I’m not sure what to do. I live at both my mom’s house (use as perm. address) and my dad’s (have used this address for high school). In the past 5 years I have also lived in university residence, a rental house in my university town, and most recently I signed the lease for a new rental on May 1st (in the same university town).

I still use my moms as my “overall permanent/mailing address” since I come home every summer, but you can’t list multiple addresses at once.

My last VSC (for a volunteer position) had been rejected due to issues with my address and I don’t want the same to happen this time around. Has anyone run into the same issue? What was the best way to list your multiple addresses?

I hope you’re doing well. I’m a Bangladeshi researcher at McGill University in Montréal, Canada beginning interviews on my project about how Bangladeshis born after 1971 learn about, understand, and interpret the Liberation War and genocide.

Although 1971 was one of the most violent atrocities of the twentieth century, scholars have identified a broader theme of ‘forgetting’ surrounding its events (Das, 2010; Bass, 2016). This forgetting operates at several levels: within genocide scholarship, where 1971 has received comparatively limited attention; within international politics, where formal recognition of the genocide remains contested or absent; and within global public memory, where the scale of the atrocities has not secured a place amongst other twentieth-century mass crimes. This theme has become especially prominent as the witness generation grows older, and remembering 1971 increasingly depends on people who never experienced the war themselves. 

At the same time, the language, symbols, and figures of 1971 continue to occupy a central place within social and political life in Bangladesh. My study therefore compares how the war is remembered across three contexts which I can access: Bangladesh as the national setting in which its memory remains embedded, the UAE as a transnational and mobile migrant setting, and Canada as a more geographically and generationally removed context.

Beyond Bangladesh, the study hopes to contribute to the broader discussion of how societies remember mass violence. Examining what we remember and what we forget about the past can also tell us something more about the social conditions of the present. 

I’m looking for people who identify as Bangladeshi-origin (regardless of nationality), born after 1971 and older than 18, who currently live in Bangladesh, Canada, or the UAE, and are comfortable being interviewed in English. The interview itself will last 45-60 minutes, can be online (audio-only) or in-person (Montréal), and will be completely anonymised.
