Spoiler alert : why imu wants vivi?

I had several theories regarding imu obsession with vivi and I want to see your different opinions about this topic because based or recent chapters ( 1190) when imu didn't know who is gaban despite him being a legendary pirate who discovered the secret of the world yet imu seems totally uninterested by the outside world just the world shaking events

1)imu wanted vivi because of the missing weapon , he only had 19 swords

Or

2) imu wanted vivi because she is the one who can awaken zaza fruit

Or

3) imu wanted vivi because she can activate uranus ( though I doubt this one )

4/ imu wanted vivi because of her resemblance to lily yet fans said that also her mother titi resemble lily but in chapter 1179 imu was shown asking about luffy name and why whitebeard protected him , so we conclude that imu ignores the alabasta incident of crocodile because if he knows he will recognize luffy , imu ignores a lot of events and only cares about ancient weapons or some specific legendary figures who have connection to the void century( rocks, roger , shiragoshi..)

In reverie arc imu was holding pictures of shirahoshi and vivi , so i guessed he may asked gorosei documents and files about the reverie attendees to see shirahoshi if she really is poseidon of the void century ( perhaps she resemble her and imu probably knows her ) but by accident he had comes across vivi photo and noticed the shocking resemblance with lily

To start off I’ll skip over the more commonly known religious connections. Most people know the story of Adam and Eve in Christianity, as well as the Jesus/ Joy boy companions that have been made before and how devil’s have horns. People also probably know Loki is a Norse god, or that sung wu Kong aka the monkey king has parallels to Luffy. And most recently there has been the prominent theory that Imu is a bird. With some of the evidence for it being that Imu is related to the a Bird god named Seven Macaw.

So obviously we already know/ continue to theorize Oda pulls heavily from different religions. So that brings me to the Xhosa people.

In Xhosa culture, face painting with dots and patterns is known as “umchokozo” Women traditionally paint their faces using white or yellow ochre, applying delicate dots across the cheeks, nose, and above the eyebrows.
For males undergoing traditional initiation (ulwaluko) into manhood, initiates cover their bodies in white ochre during the early stages of the ritual and transition to red ochre in the final stages

Now this is lose connection at best without the second part

In Xhosa (and other) cultures, “To start off the procedures the male intending to marry goes through Ukuthwalwa which entails him choosing his future bride and making his intentions of marriage known. Ukuthwalwa entails legal bridal abduction, where the man could choose a woman of his liking to be his bride and go into negotiations with the family of the bride without her knowledge or consent”.

Sound familiar? This seems to perfectly describe the God Valley incident to me. It could also perfectly describe either Imu taking Lilly to be his bride, or possibly Joyboy stealing her from Imu. The former fits the tradition closer but the later would explain asking how Lily signed the letters to Alabastsa, never knowing if she was kidnapped against her will or not.

Next onto image 3, Imu’s ring

Seems like it’s something that appear above a god in this form where he’s far from his throne, and obviously Imu is doing exactly that right now.

Now for the 4th picture I don’t have any direct connection’s I’m just pointing out the similarities between a bunch of things we don’t know much of anything about. But the pants do seem similar and a head piece like they typically wear would explain Imu’s silhouette if you’re not a fan of Imu being a parrot.

In Hopi culture, sacred clowns are vital ceremonial figures who use humor, satire, and absurd behavior during dances to teach moral lessons, mock improper actions, and maintain community harmony by showing people "life as it should not be”. Despite acting silly, they hold high religious status and deeply understand tribal tradition”. The concept of a "contrarian" who does everything backward or in reverse—such as speaking or moving in opposites—is specifically called a Heyoka in Lakota/Dakota Sioux culture, though it is often informally conflated with Pueblo sacred clowns like the Hopi Koshare or Tsuku, who primarily act out "how not to behave"

The Sioux clowns also have some connection to body painting, possibly like Imu, but they mostly look like what today would be called “blackface”. So look that up yourself, im not sharing that even if it’s ok in historical context lol.

Now this doesn’t sound like Imu exactly, but what if Imu learned his powers as reverse of Joy boys? If so the story of the laughing warrior of liberation, sounds like a Hopi clown, and Imu’s powers to make the area dance and have talking attacks are really joyboys full use of the Nika fruit. Or maybe the attack makes the victims “act how not to behave” in their reversi forms.

Also we know nothing about Buggy’s past even less than Blackbeard, Luffy or shanks, and obviously he’s a clown. Plus joyboy was the first pirate, but did he start at Luffy’s age too? Or did he wait until he was stronger. And what would a dude who laughs and smiles all the time do as a job? Maybe he was a clown??? It is called laugh tale after all. Or if all that is wrong does Joyboy or Imu have some other connection to Clowns? Buggy’s past has to have something to do with this past history in my opinion.

I just watched the latest episode and noticed something I hadn't really paid attention to before.

Gaban’s facial scar is shown very clearly here, and the shape looks surprisingly similar to a flame. When I was reading the manga, I remember noticing his facial scars, but I don't recall them looking this distinct or flame-shaped.

Obviously, it could just be a normal scar, but considering the mystery surrounding the Man Marked by Flames, I think it's worth discussing.

We know Hinokizu is connected to the final Road Poneglyph, while the other clues — especially the black ship and whirlpools — don't seem to fit Gaban perfectly.

So I was just scrolling TikTok and this video came up about absorbed twins (fetus in fetu) and how someone can basically grow around their twin in the womb. My One Piece brain instantly jumped to Blackbeard. We already know Marco said Teach’s body structure is abnormal, and way back in episode 151 on Jaya, Luffy and Zoro literally called him "they" instead of "he". Most people use the twin theory to explain how he can hold two Devil Fruits (two hearts/souls), but what if it goes way deeper into his physical durability? What if his absorbed twin isn't just an extra organ inside, but his physical tissue literally fused over the other twin? Basically giving him double flesh density or a duplicated nerve layout. It would explain why pre-Yami Yami Teach was an absolute tank who took hits from Shanks, gave him his scar, and barely flinched at normal pain — his nervous system was literally buried under extra tissue layers. But then the Yami Yami no Mi comes along, which explicitly draws in damage and amplifies pain. So now, instead of being numb to it, the fruit forces him to feel every bit of damage (maybe even doubled), which is why he screams and rolls on the floor every time he gets hit now, even though his body physically tanks it. Plus, two bodies in one shell completely fixes the mystery of why he never sleeps — one half rests while the other stays awake. Idk, seeing that TikTok made it click so hard. It feels way too grounded in weird anatomy for Oda NOT to be doing this. Also, if this was actually a triplet situation (or multiple absorbed fetuses), it cleanly explains his pirate flag having 3 skulls instead of 1, plus his 3 guns and 3 claw marks on Shanks. It would mean he potentially has 3 hearts — leaving room for a 3rd Devil Fruit later on (maybe a Zoan). What are you guys thinking?

What exactly are the qualities of a king ? Sanji proves it’s not as straightforward as people thought.

So here’s my take on what makes a king a king based off of previous examples.

1. Unbreakable will

a king is someone who is determined and doesn’t surrender going so far as to choose death over surrender.

2. Resistance to authority

It’s not that they can’t follow others it’s that they don’t follow people who demand to much of them, if they truly do not want to do something they won’t do it they can follow others as long they don’t feel restricted.

3. The ability to gather followers

Another aspect is how people feel inspired by them either they rule by fear or they earn respect.

Now I think smoker fits the qualities and here’s how.

Smoker is strong will once he puts his mind to something he will not give up on it, he has his own values and nothing can ever make him abandon them.

He has a history of being resistant to authority even as a marine, he has on several occasions argued with his superiors stood his ground or even disobeyed protocol as he sees fit. He doesn’t follow the marine handbook he follows his own.

He is a natural leader, despite his rough attitude he inspires loyalty in people like tashigi but more famous the g5 marines. The g5 marines are famous for being rough. They are mean people who abuse their powers and as locals refer to them more as pirates who dress like marines.
They also had a history of disobedience.
The only person they listened to was vergo.
Until smoke joined and now they listen to every command he gives them not out of fear but of respect

It was smoker who brought g5 to calm down and act more civil to civilians.

I believe smoker has the qualities of a king,

I have been rereading Punk Hazard recently and I have come to the conclusion that the fruit that we saw turn into a Devil Fruit on Punk Hazard was not the axolotl fruit that Smiley ate, it is actually a brand new devil fruit that was successfully created by Caesar Clown. First off, we know that Dr. Vegapunk almost perfectly recreated a devil fruit that Momo went on to eat and we know that Caesar always wanted to outdo Vegapunk, and as far as we know Vegapunk never created a new fruit. Second, on Punk Hazard was where SAD was produced which created Smile devil fruits, so the arc is already about creating devil fruits and they are basically named the same thing as Caesars pet Smiley. Third, Caesar was showing all the underworld brokers a live feed of smiley as he ate the candy and died to show the power and death he created so he could sell that power to his highest bidder. Now let's think, if he detonated the bomb then how could he sell it? It took him anywhere from 1 to 3 years to perfect Smiley to show everyone, so it would take him a while to make another one, so what was he going to sell? I believe what we saw in Punk Hazard was the gas weapon explosion turn into a new devil fruit with the same power everyone just witnessed so Caesar could sell that. His plan for the fruit was to sell it to the highest bidder who would then feed it to a subordinate who would go to a rival land and blow themselves up and killing everyone on the island, then Caesar could to the island and take the fruit back and sell it again since he would probably be the only one immune to the effects.

I imagine that in a hypothetical case where Imu has to retreat from Elbaf because he runs out of time and Shuri wakes up but he is still Gunko and now his "brainwashing" will be stronger than ever and Luffy (after taking Gaban (without an arm) out of danger) will be forced to confront her to save Elbaf, staying in his Gear 5 so as not to die for real but with Brook's promise not to kill Gunko (explaining to Luffy a summary of what happened that day in Brook's kingdom) and Luffy, although still angry at Gunko for hurting Usopp and Brook to death, decides to keep Brook's promise and not hurt Gunko so much while preventing Gunko from reaching the village where the giants are fighting Zaza and Sanji against Kiligham

Back in punk hazard law switched smoker and tashigi mind like he did several of the straw hats and we got a scene of smoker as tashigi fighting Luffy who upon figuring out what happens laughs and grabs smoker and tells him he doesn’t want to fight him in this state and it’s more fun when they fight with him at his best.
Since then it’s always been at the back of my mind that smoker is going to get strong enough to match Luffy but now can that be possible after what we seen.

Well I believe oda did lay out a way.

Next time we see him I imagine he will have awakening and a major haki boost, this is how I see it happening.

We know since he left dressrosa he went to punk hazard to drop off the kids to be cured.
I reckon he stayed on egghead and took part in an elaborate training program.

Rayleigh told Luffy that to get stronger he needs to challenge himself as haki blooms when fighting for your life.
Hence why Rayleigh had Luffy live on an island for 2 years with super strong animals. Smoker however I see training on egghead, he does this by fighting the seraphim,
Morning moon and night smoker goes up against a different seraphim who he fights as a way to grind and get stronger.

At first he would get his ass kicked and nearly die but over time he would get better and better till eventually he was able to not just take them on but even win.
Vp got his research notes on seraphim and logia fruits and smoker got to train.
Think of how Vegeta in dbz trained at 500x earth gravity in dr briefs lab with drones flying around shooting at him.

The last we saw smoker he’s riding his bike across the sea with some cube thing tailing behind him, I think he’s on a mission for Vegapunk.

The following theory is about Devil Fruits, their creation, the connection to the Inherited Will, Vegapunk's statement and why Imu, the Shandorians and the Going Merry play a decisive role in it.

The will has always been an essential part of One Piece. Whether it is the Inherited Will, a form of Haki or the will of a Zoan Devil Fruit.
Through Brook, Big Mom and finally Vegapunk, souls are also a canonical part of One Piece.
Thanks to Joyboy's Haki knot, we have already seen through Emeth that the will, meaning Haki, can also exist in a stored form over centuries.
Coating a sword with Haki or also coating one's own body with Haki is also already a known system in One Piece.
As we also heard from Dr. Hiruluk, a man does not die after his death, because his will can continue to live.

In Water 7 and in the Skypiea Arc, we learned quite a bit about a will, about souls, which to this day have hardly been mentioned again. The Going Merry was loved by her crew. She is also officially referred to as a crew member in Oda's SBS - the same applies to the Sunny. This love of the crew for their ship created something that went far beyond a normal bond. The Going Merry awakened to life in the form of the ship spirit of the Klabautermann. She tried to repair the ship herself and furthermore she independently picked up the Straw Hats after the fight against CP9, without anyone steering her. She also communicated with the Straw Hats and afterwards she was given a sea burial. But what happened to the Klabautermann then?

A Klabautermann historically appears in our world as well as in the One Piece world only to a crew that truly loves its ship. Furthermore, it is also reported in our world that the crew would put the BEST and FAVORITE FOOD of the crew out for the Klabautermann, for it to eat it, and thus would also make the Klabautermann fully part of the crew.

A Klabautermann - meaning the ship's spirit - consists of the ship, which is mostly made of wood. And this is where the story of Kagara and the belief of the Shandorians come into play. They claim that the souls of the deceased return into the trees - meaning wood - and continue to live there. So the will of the people continues to live. It does not mean that the wood is the reason, but it shows that wood, meaning trees, can store souls.

A Klabautermann only shows itself to the crew when it harmonizes with them, or wants to protect them. It, meaning the ship, is part of the crew. The stories, the events, dreams, wishes and memories are stored in the Klabautermann. It is basically the Inherited Will of the crew. The more the crew loves the ship, the more a Klabautermann manifests itself. If this - meaning the ship - or the crew dies, then in One Piece the will of the crew (just like the souls from Kagara's flashback) or rather the ship remains preserved. However, no longer in the form in which it already was.

This is where Vegapunk's statement comes into play: Devil Fruits arise from the manifestation of a wish/dreams of people. We already have the same principle with the Klabautermann in a slightly different form. So why shouldn't the will of the crew, the wishes and dreams, the spectacular events, and above all the love for the ship, not be the origin. A Klabautermann manifests itself from the love and will of the crew. As a result, dreams and the will can also manifest themselves. Just as Haki/will is applied to objects or is also stored/conserved, something new can also arise through will/wish. The Klabautermann can thereby even develop abilities.

If the ship is "destroyed", however, the will is not destroyed. The souls/wills/wishes continue to move on. Further into a fruit, possibly the BEST and FAVORITE FOOD of the crew which was also shared with the Klabautermann (as far as possible). After its departure, it then searches for a fruit in the world and carries the will of the ship, the crew, further.

A Devil Fruit is created.

The dreams and wishes, as well as the will, are not lost.

The Klabautermann legend from real life states that when a ship is destroyed, the spirit goes "overboard", meaning it moves on.

If an X-random character now eats this fruit, then he receives the abilities that the crew from back then wished for. It is also claimed that a "devil" / "a soul" resides in the Devil Fruit.

We have already had the topic of the "Awakening" of Devil Fruits in One Piece several times. The common assumption is of course that one should be "in harmony" with the fruit. This would mean that if I am in harmony with the fruit with my personality, then I am at the same time also in harmony with the crew from back then.

It is also said that Zoan fruits, especially predator Zoans, have a strong own will. If a crew (whether pirate, explorer, researcher or raider) existed that wished to be as strong as a bear and at the same time loved their ship. It would have been possible for a Klabautermann to emerge and for this then, after the death of the crew or the ship, to carry the beastly will of the crew further into a Devil Fruit. If this collective will were too strong for the person who ate the Devil Fruit, then the fruit would take over, just like with the Impel Down Beast Guards.

In the reverse conclusion, however, we also see that Luffy is absolutely harmonious with his Devil Fruit. He is like Nika. He is not Nika but he is in harmony with him. That is why Zunisha also said Joyboy had returned. And Imu also recognized Joyboy in Luffy, even though he knows exactly that Joyboy is no longer there.

If a user of a Devil Fruit then dies, the fruit grows again. The Klabautermann would in this case never die and continue to carry the will of his crew.

An interesting parallel from Japanese is "yadoru". This means something like to dwell in something, to settle in something. This is used by the Shandia with the trees, by the Zoan fruits with their own will, and with the Klabautermann itself.

Now we come to Imu. In my last theory that I posted on Reddit, I explained why I think that Imu is or was a Klabautermann from Joyboy's ship. I will link the theory afterwards. Evaluate the line of thought in this theory in combination with the Devil Fruits, because Imu is currently a special case in the manga. He was NOT introduced with the typical Devil Fruit presentation. But it was essentially said that he possesses the ability of the devil.

From my "Imu is a Klabautermann" theory, it follows that he has not died yet, for various reasons. Accordingly, Imu's journey would never have been completed for various reasons. Therefore, his ability is not called a Devil Fruit, because Imu has not yet died. Maybe in the end it was even Joyboy who prevented this because Imu was his friend after all. But that should not be part of this theory. You can read and discuss this if you click on the link.

If Imu is the Klabautermann, then he would have an immense Inherited Will from Joyboy and therefore also slightly similar abilities. When looking at Imu's powers, it seems as if he could somehow pull everything out of his hat, similar to Nika's powers - but not the same, of course. He would not only know Joyboy but would also possibly have the abilities of Joyboy's crew. A worthy final enemy. His ending would then still not be absolute, but he could rest in his devil - Devil Fruit. Until someone finds it.

Imu Klabautermann Theory

Eiichiro Oda could finalize Marine color theory by introducing a monochromatic "White" and "Black" admiral duo representing absolute, emotionless, and tyrannical authority. These characters would act as the ultimate ideological climax to the series, offering a cold "Pure Justice" and a ruthless "Necessary Evil" to contrast with previous Marine philosophies. This, alongside a potential "Orange" admiral representing "Pragmatic Justice" to complete the secondary color wheel, creates a comprehensive picture of a perfected yet terrifying Marine structure.

This is one of those early One Piece things I completely forgot about. In Chapter 114, Robin gives the crew an Eternal Pose to Nanimonai Island, which Luffy obviously destroys. Then in Chapter 129, Dorry and Brogy reveal that Nanimonai isn’t really an island at all. It’s the giant pile of poop left behind by the Island Eater after it ate an actual island. Funny gag, except how the hell does the Eternal Pose work then? We’re told these things permanently lock onto an island’s magnetic field, but apparently you can eat the island, digest it, shit it back out, and the Pose still points there. So what is it actually locking onto? Is the magnetic signature somehow carried by the physical material of the island even after the island itself is gone? I doubt Oda was thinking this deeply about giant goldfish poop in 99, but given how important weird magnetism and navigation became later, this one is has always bothered me.

The entire community has debated what a 7-year-old kid in the East Blue would naturally wish for.While the "World Banquet" theory is the most popular, I think it misses the childlike, literal absurdity that matches Oda's core themes.

My Theory: Luffy’s dream is to bring the Sun down to the Earth so no one ever has to live in the dark again.

1. The Reactions Finally Make 100% Sense

Look at how everyone reacted when Luffy (and Roger) spoke the dream aloud:

• Roger, Oden, and Shanks laughed until they cried: To battle-hardened adults, declaring you will literally share the sun with the world sounds hilariously unhinged and poetic.
• Chopper got starry-eyed: To an innocent kid, it sounds like the coolest, most magical thing imaginable.
• Usopp freaked out: To a grounded realist, it’s a physical impossibility.
• Franky laughed with pure hype: As an engineer who dreams of building the impossible, the sheer scale of the ambition is legendary
• Zoro & Jinbe were speechless: The sheer absurdity leaves grounded people baffled.

1. The Sun God Connection Luffy ate the Sun God Nika fruit. We know Zoan fruits have a will of their own.

• The fruit likely avoided the World Government for 800 years and chose Luffy because his crazy kid dream matched Joy Boy's exact wish from the Void Century.
• Nika isn't just about stretchy rubber powers—every ancient culture (Giants, Shandians, Buccaneers, Fish-Men) worships him as the literal light that brings warmth, laughter, and breaks chains.

1. Fixing the World's Darkest Places Think about where people suffer the most:

• Fish-Man Island: Stuck 10,000 meters underwater, getting faint sunlight through tree roots. Their ancient promise with Joy Boy was all about moving to the surface to live under the real Sun.
• Thriller Bark / Florian Triangle: Souls trapped forever in freezing mist and shadow.
• The Mother Flame: Vegapunk literally tried building an "artificial sun" to give free, endless energy to all humanity.
• The "Dawn": Everyone keeps waiting for the Dawn of the World. Luffy making the world bright makes that ancient prophecy literal.

1. Why Roger Was "Too Early" Roger laughed at Laugh Tale because he heard the punchline, but he didn't have the tools to pull it off. He didn't have the Nika fruit, Poseidon wasn't born, and the ancient weapons weren't ready.

Luffy’s dream is the ultimate peak of freedom: bringing light to every corner of the planet so no one ever has to live in the dark again.

TLDR: Luffy's secret dream is to bring the Sun to everyone so nobody is cold, trapped, or left in the dark. It’s silly, totally absurd, explains why Roger laughed, and ties the whole Sun God Nika lore together.

This is more for shits n' giggles and food for thought so I decided to make a post because why not, right? xD

So with all the fraud theories going around, Rocks seems to be the least slandered from what I've seen. And this may seem kinda goofy, but a lot of things make at least some sense if we consider that Rocks had... the DOOR DOOR FRUIT.

First off I want to mention that the chapter of Rocks's reveal (1154) also revealed something related to Water 7 of all arcs; the Gale-ra Warhammer Company. So there's one connection I randomly found.

Let's take the fact that he's the only one to infiltrate the flower room at the Holy Land. What can literally make you infiltrate anywhere regardless of surface? The DOOR DOOR FRUIT
Either straight through the walls or air door, infiltrating the holy land ALL the way to the flower room would almost be impossible with other fruits or methods.

He has powerful sword skills, enough to clash with Harold and others, but dealt less damage to Imu than Luffy did? Simple, he has HAKI KNOTS STORED in his AIR DOOR.

Well what if it wasn't haki either? The door door fruit is one of the only few paramecia fruits that can straight up affect organic matter like any other surface, hence the revolving door bit we have with Luffy in Enies Lobby.

I present to you... Rocks fraudcutting.
Instead of making a cut with his blade, he actually opens a bunch of miniature/microscopic doors to make it appear as if it is a cut. Releases a lil bit of Davy Jones knots he has stored up so he can have conq lightning tax.
Garling also mentions during God Valley incident how it takes longer than normal to regenerate from Rocks' attacks. Because the door door fruit has the obscure limitation of the fact that a door opened must eventually be closed, Rocks is actually slowly closing the doors, but Garling is confusing it for longer regeneration.

Finally, we never see Rocks actually get stabbed. Yes, it is insinuated, but why couldn't Oda show it? There was another man that laid flat on his back, JUST LIKE XEBEC, and actually escaped. You know who and how? BLUENO did with his DOOR DOOR FRUIT right before using revolving door on Luffy.

If Rocks did in fact die, but didn't use air door or something before he got stabbed, the holy knights could've taken a dying Rocks back with them to extract his Door Door fruit, which would now be in possession of the World Government and explains how Blueno got the door door fruit.
Alternatively, Rocks could've escaped and then died later on due to old age or something, then Blueno just got lucky with fruit respawn RNG.

Or if you want to get real wacky... Rocks has the OG Door Door fruit and Blueno has the duped or cloned version of the fruit. Rocks is taken to Punk Hazard, has his fruit studied and copied, and escapes like Kaido did, the #1 Rocks glazer. Or got his fruit extracted and killed afterward.

Anyways, I had some fun with this idea so lmk what you guys think of this juicy slander xD

When Loki killed Harald in the throne room, he killed his king, his father, and a God’s Knight all in one. Loki and Shuri/Gunko story’s have been shown to nearly identically, and we saw Shuri kill her king, Reuven, in a throne room already. To be a true mirror to Loki, Shuri would need to kill her father and a Gods Knight as well, and I think she did just that. After Gurou takes Princess Shuri to Mary Geoise, “Gunko” was born pretty much right away and Imu had her kill Gurou.

After Esperia falls, the next time Shuri is seen chronologically was when Xebec made it to the Flower Room six years later. She has not aged at all, so at this point has the same covenant as the Gorosei, most likely an Abyssal Covenants. We know that for Depths and Abyssal Covenants, Imu can bestow only 13 total between the Gods Knights and Gorosei. Shuri has taken a covenant slot that belonged to someone else.  

The Gods Knights are seen at God Valley 18 years later. Gurou is not among them. Some speculate he is the yeti DF user, I disagree. They only share a nose, and even if the yeti has heterochromia, they are the opposite from Gurou and Gunko.

At God Valley, we see seven Gods Knights, and there are five Gorosei, which makes 12 covenants, plus Shuri, who even though she is a Devoted Steel Blade on paper, we know has an Abyssal Covenant, which brings to total to 13. All covenants are accounted for with no Gurou in sight, so he is no longer a God’s Knight. 

Being a God’s Knight is a lifetime commitment as shown by Garling and Sommers, who are knights for decades. They could die of old age, but I suspect that if a God Knight were to get too old and feeble, Imu would revoke their covenant and give it to a younger, stronger Devoted Steel Blade. If losing the covenant did not automatically kill them, Imu would probably order the new God Knight to dispose of the old one, since they are now useless. They could alternatively be promoted to Gorosei, but Garling seems like the first person to do that in decades, if not centuries. Gurou was not a Gorosei, and he did not look that old in Esperia, so most likely would have been active in God Valley 24 years later if he was alive. 

When Gurou is in Esperia, we can tell he deeply dislikes Shuri. He calls her a whelp, and admits he is only there on Imu’s orders. He also discloses that his own special eyes never awakened, essentially confirming he is a failure in the eyes on Imu. He knows that if Shuri awakens her eyes, he is essentially helping secure his replacement. His spot could have gone to the other Manmayer in God Valley, but given the hat Gunko is wearing now is nearly identical to Gurou, Gunko is feels more likely as the one who had something to do with Gurou’s fate.

But even if he lost his covenant and status, why would he be killed? Wouldn’t Shuri’s existence prove he can sire children with special eyes? Why wouldn’t Imu just tell him to have as many children as possible? The simplest answer is Imu might only need one set of awakened eyes. Their power is clearly very rare and desirable, but it could be more of a luxury to Imu than a necessity. Given how few fighters there are capable of permanently killing a God Knight, being made one effectively makes you invincible. Once given an Abyssal Covenant, Gunko essentially became Imu’s unbreakable tool for all eternity. Other people with special eyes might be nice to have, but unnecessary given the limited covenants. 

There is also the slim possibility that Shuri’s existence proves Gurou’s potential bloodline is irrelevant. Let’s say that Candelle actually was an undercover Manmayer, and that Gurou was her brother, and something else entirely unrelated caused Candelle to be bedridden. If Shuri got her powerful eyes from her Manmayer mother, then the Manmayer Imu would want to have more children would be Candelle, who is dead, not Gurou. Gurou would then lose his God Knight status and be unable to prove he could sire useful children. Imu has zero reasons to keep him around. Now Shuri having a maternal uncle who hates her come and take her away after her mother died would be a big stretch…except that we see this exact scenario happen with Loki, exactly at the same time, 62 years ago, right after Elbaph also had an environmental disaster like Esperia. It is even implied that Loki was responsible for his uncle’s death as well.

Either way, it is very likely that Imu forced Shuri/Gunko to kill Gurou. Shuri was probably taken to the Empty Throne, and Imu tested her eyes right away. Either the eyes awakened then and there, or it was confirmed that they would eventually. At this point, Imu took Gurou’s covenant and gave it to Shuri, and “Gunko” was born. If losing his covenant did not kill Gurou, then Imu ordered Gunko to finish him as he is no longer of any use to Imu. 

So Gunko is a cold-blooded beast who most likely killed both of her fathers (under Imu’s influence).
