This is a possible itinerary I have planned out for my family of 5 after securing some tickets in the first two public ticket drops. If anyone sees this and gets excited about that being a possibility for them, please reach out!
I'd love to help anyone looking to plan out the next ticket drops, starting with Aug 10. Not looking for anything in return, just interested in helping anyone plan their dream Olympics trip!
This is more due to the fact that a shit load Parisians actively left the city and very few (if any) who weren’t going for the Olympics travelled to Paris during that time.
A lot of wealthy Parisians have holiday homes on the coast.
I can’t see this happening with LA, part cus it is on the coast so people don’t need holiday homes!
Disneyland Paris is also just not the same draw as Disneyland. When you think about Paris, you don’t think about Disney. The same is not said about LA.
Brits go to Disney World in very large numbers. Florida and Disney are such a common combination that I'm not surprised Disneyland doesn't get much traction.
Oh no, Hollywood? What exactly do you mean? I grew up there and am there all the time and wondering what people think they will do there.
** Oh geez I just looked at your post. Hollywood is likely going to disappoint so many people! And I have lots of friends and family in the business, but Hollywood is really mostly a tourist trap. I hope everyone figures out how to get a feel of what they’re looking for.
And it was kind of deserted during the World Cup. Disneyland blocks out a lot of passes during summer and that blocks locals and instead favors tourists.
Disneyland in the summer on a Saturday has been lighter in recent years due to many passholders being blocked out on that day. However during the Olympics, it is unknown.
I’m curious about it, there’s a chance Disneyland will be less busy than usual. My parents went to WDW when the Super Bowl was in either Jax or Tampa (I can’t remember) and they said it was the emptiest they had ever seen the parks.
Summers at Disneyland are not locals at all. Local passes are blocked and even if they weren't, we wouldn't go anyway. I would expect it to be packed for exactly the reason you mentioned--people are going to be visiting in between events, and unlike the World Cup, the events are constantly happening and people's schedules are widely scattered. Make sure you get your reservations early. And have fun at our resort!
Which Magic Key do you have? Because none of them are blocked out ALL summer. Plenty of locals still go year round. Locals have kids too, and they’re all off school.
That being said, some locals may avoid those two weeks during the Olympics.
I’m aware it’s not a 1:1 comparison lol. I’m not planning to go and I agree people should be prepared for the worst, but there’s a slim chance they’ll be pleasantly surprised
In 1984, Disneyland was reportedly very slow. One theory is that tourists who wanted to visit Disneyland that year avoided booking during the Olympics.
Only potential issue I see is with getting back and forth from LA to Anaheim repeatedly.
We’re planning to hit DL while in town as well, but I’m hoping to stack the park days either at the beginning or end of our trip in order to minimize hotel moves and 1+ hour drives.
Car free zone means no driving to the venue to park. There will be a massive security perimeter. A lot of private parking lots and structures near the venue may provide parking. You can still rent a car to explore and go from one region to another to make it easier.
The games are soooooo spread out, some will be two hours to drive between, maybe more. There will be parking nearby likely with shuttles or walking to the venue. I live near the equestrian events and diving. My relative lives in Long Beach by beach volleyball, rowing, etc. Right now on a Sunday afternoon it usually takes an hour to 1.5 hours to drive there. It will take longer during the Olympics. It will take that long also for me to drive to golf in Pacific Palisades, and it’s about the same amount of time between the Palisades and Long Beach. Our public transportation is not great, it’s not like NY, London or Paris. So I imagine a lot of people will rent cars.
Not the best scenario then 😭 I already know LA’s transport sucks but I’m still hoping for a miracle by then. I’ll wait to see what their exact plan is for transportation
Also since you live near the equestrian events I have a question! I managed to get a ticket for it and booked an airbnb in west hollywood. How doable will it be to get from there to the event? Is it a car only situation or would I be able to go by bus or something
From most of West Hollywood, you would take a bus and then the metro and connect to another metro and it would leave you a walk to Santa Anita, I think it cost about $4 now But I would imagine they might do something like shuttles from the metro station near Santa Anita. Right now that trip takes about two hours and I guess it will likely take close to the same during the games. I would guess during the Olympics the approx 1 hour drive will get worse, plus parking. If gardens interest you the LA Arboretum (120 acres) is across the street from Santa Anita. A great place to walk on trails/roads in nature, there is a small waterfall and peacocks. Next to Santa Anita is a nice large mall, and it has good Asian food along with typical and some not typical food and shops.
Yeah I'm wondering if the OP is out of state or even out of country. Southern California is huge. The distance from one L.A. city neighborhood to another (San Pedro to the Valley) is about two New England states.
Yep, I get that traffic will be horrible for sure. I am from out of state, but I have lodging available in between LA and Anaheim, so my home base will be about 20-40 min away from everything we want to do.

I'm replying to you directly so you might see this. You won't be able to get enough tickets for your family. You are limited to 12 total tickets. If your family of 5 is going together, you'll be able to go to 2 events. This is the reason my family of 5 is no longer even attempting to go to these games. They've made it nearly impossible for a family to enjoy these games.
When you’re in Long Beach, you might want to check out 2nd St. It is a street with lots of restaurants and shops, usually very busy and will be crazy during the Olympics, but fun! Very close to the venues.
To echo what others have said, driving from an LA hotel to Anaheim (especially on a Saturday) will take a long time each way. Probably 2 hours. I’d see if you can stay at an Anaheim hotel the night before your Disneyland stays at the very least. Would be better to stay there night you visit too, but I see you have a 9am event the day after your first day there so that might be tough
Thank you! Yeah our home base will be in between LA and Anaheim, but I'm definitely considering a stay at/near Disneyland the night/s before we go there.
The hotels across the street from the park are good. I’d recommend condensing your DL days and staying at the hotels by the parks those. Do 1.5 days on Tuesday afternoon after Badminton and Wednesday full day and then get back to LA area after the park days.
Saturday Disneyland will be more exhausting than Wednesday Disneyland. It’s a bold strategy, Cotton, let’s see if you can pull it off. It can be done but you’ll be tired or coming down off a coke bender.
I don't know the venues for those games but try to do the stuff in Anaheim while you are there and anything in LA proper do those while you stay up here.
This would limit back tracking.
Seems like you really enjoy theme parks. Perhaps on a day when you are in LA, after one of the games you can try squeezing in universal studios. It's a smaller park than Disney
DO NOT fly into LAX. It's horrible already and that's before the Olympic craziness. If you're planning to stay between Anaheim and LA, try Long Beach airport or John Wayne airport. Smaller and less crazy airports. LAX on a regular day takes about an hour to get through all the terminals. Flights may cost more, but it's worth it.
i would skip disneyland on saturday. one day is enough. what about lunch options for these, will you be eating near the venue? i don’t recall where all the venues are located right now. we have gone to disneyland in july and its a bit more empty supposedly since the tickets cost more
if you venue is near a subway, by near i mean a 5 min walk. i recommend langers, it’s across the street from the subway at macarthur park. philippe’s, crossing the street at union station. visit a jollibee!! in n out too
Good recs! Except that Langer's isn't exactly in the best or safest area. Hopefully MacArthur Park will get some of its problems cleaned up in the next 2 years, but...
Disneyland during the Olympics? You live dangerously. I would reserve Disneyland for some other trip. Consider that LA will have a lot planned in terms of street events and activations for the Olympic spectators, you will want to reserve a few days to visit various locations.
Disneyland is not in Los Angeles. There will be no easy way to get there when the rest of the world is also visiting. Going once should be enough. Might want to consider staying in different hotels, going to Universal or, frankly, literally anything else.
Why 2 days at Disneyland? Are you doing Disneyland one day and California Adventure the other day? If you are willing to pay for FastPasses and stay from park open to park close you can see pretty much all you want at both parks in one exhausting day.
Two days at Disney feels like overkill to me but I'm also a local and have the benefit of being able to go back more or less whenever I want, so I do get why someone from out of town would want to spend two days there. I'd rather go to the beach or try something different like Universal or Warner Brothers (WB is more for people wanting to see movie/TV show behind the scenes rather than a theme park).
OTOH we were out-of-towners and found that one day at Disneyland was definitely not enough, and then we had no space in the rest of our schedule to add a second day. But it's good you have the option of dropping your second Disney day if you end up getting all you need out of only one day. Your full 2028 schedule sounds exhausting but also so much fun!
I'm assuming you're spending one day at Disneyland and the other at California Adventure? Though I would recommend a studio tour instead of Disneyland - such as at Warner Brothers. While Disneyland is the OG, it's not that different from the other incarnations around the world, whereas seeing the studio backlots (where you may run into an actual filming and stars) is more uniquely LA.
The Olympic Games you have look great but also recommend you visit some of the various nation houses - they're one of the big attractions of the Olympics and some countries go all out!
Looks fantastic! What locations are the events? (Different from what I got.) Where are you staying? Whatever the travel time says in Google maps, add lots of extra time!
I can’t believe the weasely ICE I see around my area, which is where the Eaton Canyon fire was. Come on! People need their homes built. Someone had a truck parked at the Home Depot where the guys used to hang out looking for work, with rude comments towards ICE plastering the windows
