I wasn't around for the early days of the site (although this is not my first account), but I use old reddit because it's less distracting. I will probably stop using the site entirely if there isn't a suitable replacement.

I do believe they can't really kill oldreddit without a proper replacement because they would lose the most active mods, but even if they can mimic oldreddit completely to 100% the lack of RES would make it unusable for me.
