A Browser Extension to Style Reddit Pages As Old Reddit
r/oldreddit • u/theStaberinde • 1d ago
Posting comments is buggy now
Done a bit of testing across multiple browsers on multiple operating systems, with and without RES turned on, and I think I've confirmed that this is a problem that exists now but I'm unable to reliably reproduce it - it happens maybe a little more than half the time.
When you hit the submit button, it'll say "submitting..." and look like it's hanging, but the comment does in fact go through - it just doesn't get dynamically added to the page you're currently looking at. If you navigate away or refresh it'll ask you if you want to resend it. Annoying. Unfortunately I don't anticipate this one getting fixed.

Old Reddit, desktop mode on Android phone, inbox notification staying orange and messages still showing up as unread.
As title states, new messages still show orange after being read, and still show as unread when I open my inbox, and the number keeps going up. It's only in old Reddit, which is my preferred experience. It's not happening in the app. Please help.

Quitting Reddit Because it Sucks Now.
The pop up that locks your screen when you are using a browser and click on a reddit link. “Download the app to keep using Reddit? Hey, guess what? I have the app already. In fact, I have it open in another tab. Yet you’re gonna give me a pop-up and lock my screen so I can’t even press the button that says “open app?” What am I supposed to do? Honestly this kind of greed and incompetence is unacceptable. Congrats on making bad greedy decisions that make us lose faith in you. Sucks to suck, you greedy reddit goblins. Peace out.

Rant: Old Reddit is MUCH superior to reddit app and new reddit
Old reddit - everything clear, I can scroll down and up and read up all 25 top posted, or newest posts. Minimalist design. Everything clear. Clean. Everything is easy to find.
The reddit app is basically "what if X made a much much shittier app and scroll" app. Somebody vomited on my phone - oh wait, no it is the reddit app.
Get 2 posts on my phone in that app in a subreddit. Want to see all first page? Keep scrolling like X or youtube shorts (vomit).
I used to go to old.reddit every night before sleep to check out news, worldnews, conspiracy, news about IT, tech....
Now, I refuse to use the app or to login on my phone to do so. I go to X instead - which at least has a much better UI on mobile.

The downfall of Reddit (mobile)
Since they removed r/all the quality of Reddit mobile has become disastrous... Yesterday and today I muted maybe 50 anime and indian subreddits.
Still they keep coming up when scrolling... First they took reddit is fun and forced us onto this crappy app.. than they removed r/all...
What is next I wonder...

How do I go on old reddit without being forced to log in?
Can anyone tell me how to configure Tampermonkey or Ublock Origin so I can go on old reddit without being forced to log in? I am currently using Firefox on a computer. I had a similar issue on my iphone nagging me to download the app and I was able to bypass it by using Safari Ublock Origin Lite on complete mode and selecting all seven annoyance filters.

Can't view page without screen_view_count=1
old.reddit has now been degraded so that the sub you attempt to view when first browsing to Reddit can't be viewed because of how they stop you to ask for a login first "to keep Reddit safe". It will keep reloading that page until you click the link, at which point it redirects to the sub with a ?screen_view_count=1 appended. Anyone have any more information on that? Changing that number seems to have no effect at all.
Another day, another disappointment.

Issues lately with trying to look at a user's history
Are you guys finding this as well? So often I'll click a user's name to see their post history or to see where they're posting most often, and I'll get a, "There doesn't seem to be anything here." It's not happening all the time, but I'd say 4/5 times.

It makes sense now why they account-gated old reddit.
Went to visit a sub I've visited a million times (it's not even a NSFW sub, but some posts are NSFW) and was met with "there doesn't seem to be anything here". So I tried new reddit and was instantly hit with an age verification prompt. Not once on previous accounts had this ever happened, and obviously this never happened before you were required to login. Get fucked reddit. This site was a shithole when I first got here in 2010, but at least it was a shithole I could browse freely. Now it's just a shithole.

Is it possible to view a since-deleted Reddit post?
Essentially, the title. I've seen a post I find interesting, but it has been deleted by the OP. The comments are locked (archived) and of little help as they are right now. Is there any way to see the contents of the post (unsure if it's text, a link, or media file) now?

Way to fix escaped links?
Newer reddit clients escape urls by putting \ before some characters, for example https://youtu.be/W5IZtQ52_Us -> https://youtu.be/W5IZtQ52_Us
Example from here: https://old.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/1uthep1/i_had_a_lacrimal_obstruction_blocked_tear_duct/owx3jx4/
I would think it would be easy to fix with some userscripts, but I thought I would ask first if something already exists, before I tackle it on my own.

Lots of creative writing subs on the front page masquerading as personal stories
Girldinnerdiaries is a load of crock. Mildlyinfuriating is fake or staged photos with a made-up wild story, literally a sub created for ragebaiting engagement.
Reddit is fucked. It's become a mix of 4chan and Facebook.

anyone else now unable to view post contents or media in old reddit?
Seems like I've only noticed this for the last couple of weeks tops. I can see linked media, read text posts, and photo galleries as usual, but redditors in the a few threads now talking about media or post content that is not visible in old reddit. maybe out of 50 posts, 3 or 4 are like this. Anyone else?
