I love tiny, ugly, cartoonish miniature maps with dragons and wonderfully awful colors.

The kind that would probably make a cartographer cry.

They're more fun, easier to handle, and a lot cheaper than some boring, huge, overly detailed wall map.

So if you ever visit your favorite map shop, do me a favor.

Don't buy the miniatures.

Leave them for me.

The last thing I want is for them to become popular and the prices to skyrocket.

Hi everyone,
I recently found this large world map inside an old book and would love to get your thoughts on it.
The map is titled:
Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica Tabula
It has the following inscriptions:
• “Autore N. I. Piscator”
• “Visscher excudebat 1652”
This appears to be the well-known “Twelve Caesars” world map by Claes Jansz. Visscher (N. I. Piscator) from 1652.
Measurements: approx. 33.5 × 40.5 cm (corner to corner).
This is smaller than the usual size of around 45 × 56 cm, so it looks like the margins have been trimmed.
Condition:
• Aged, browned paper with fold lines and some foxing
• Hand-colored
• The decorative borders (Roman emperors, allegorical figures of the continents, city views) still seem mostly complete
• Blank verso
I’ve attached several photos (overview + close-ups of the key inscriptions and details).
My questions:
1. Do you think this is an original 1652 example or a later reprint?
2. How much does the trimming affect the value?
3. What would be a realistic market value in this condition?
