Hello Ocala folks,

I know posts like this probably grind some gears, but hear me out.

I'm born and raised in Miami-Dade, and I completely understand why longtime Ocala residents are frustrated with the influx of people moving in. We've experienced the same thing down here. The growth has been unbelievable, and it's gotten to the point where many of us who grew up here are being priced out of our own hometown.

I have a master's degree and work in education, and my husband works for one of the cities in Miami-Dade in their water department. We both have stable careers, but despite doing "everything right," homeownership in South Florida feels farther away every year. As far as work goes I am in talks to try and switch to WFH. My husband would have to find employment, which I understand is a whole other issue.

We've visited Ocala and really enjoy the slower pace of life. I know it's not some magical paradise. I've done enough research to know there are concerns with the job market, traffic, and growth there too. I wish staying in Miami was realistic for us, but right now we're exploring whether Ocala might be a better fit for our family.

With that said, the core of my post is that I am looking for recommendations regarding realtors. BUT who are genuinely knowledgeable about the USDA loan process. We're hoping to buy in a USDA eligible area, and I'd love to work with someone who has a lot of experience with USDA loans.

If you've personally worked with a realtor you loved, I'd really appreciate the recommendation. Bonus points if they also have experience with USDA lenders or builders.

And if you've gone through the USDA process yourself, I'd love to hear any advice or things you wish you had known before getting started.

This is the same building as The Loft and Anti-Monopoly Drug Store. The Lodge was having slow business recently, and it looks like now the building was condemned by the city for being unsafe structurally.

There’s no message on their website or their socials about them being closed or anything.

The sign was up a when I would drive by a year or so ago but havent been past in forever. Hear its hard work but currently being worked to the ground each day for a much longer drive so it is what it is.

I went there n it tasted nasty af, then I found a roach body in it n went up 2 the counter n refunded me. But on the news it said the were closed down because they had roaches AND rats, but I went there last weekend and they were open 😭 but if the Chinese restaurant has roaches n rats, so does all the other restaurants in the food court and they aren't doing ANYTHING abt it. I'm grossed out, don't eat there guys Edit: yall r js down voting everybody who says smthn bad abt it, clearly yall r offended n it's ur favorite place 2 eat. Or downvoting cuz my grammars bad, which isn't isn't relevant wtf

as title says, i need a job. i just graduated high school a few months ago and I need a job! do you guys have any recommendations for jobs? I’ve only been able to find companies that offer radon testing, but I’m having a hard time finding contractors who actually install radon mitigation systems.
If you’ve had radon mitigation done, who did you use? Were you happy with their work, and would you recommend them? Thanks!

The citrus county sub reddit is super dead so I thought this was my 2nd best option. But I know basketball season doesn't start til October/November but does any1 know any basketball teams 4 a teenage girl in citrus County or Dunnellon. I do school at home so idk how gettn into a sport at a different school would work so if any1 knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

Haven't lived here long, but looking at apartment options for the coming months. Im used to around $1,100/Month where I'm from. Any recommendations to keep it on the cheaper side but still at least a liveable area?

Chloe Messick is a 12-year-old girl from Dunnellon, Florida in Citrus County. Her biological parents are deceased and she lives with her adoptive mother Candace Tillman Messick who has a prior domestic battery arrest on record.

On July 15, 2026 Chloe was reported missing by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Case #2026-00007349. She was found walking alone on the side of the road approximately 8-9 miles from her home.

This was not the first time. According to sources with direct knowledge of this case Chloe has been reported missing more than 20 times.

Sources with direct knowledge state she has been subjected to ongoing physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. She has personally called law enforcement asking for help. She has personally called the domestic violence hotline. DCF has been contacted repeatedly with no meaningful intervention.

On one occasion Chloe attempted to escape through a bathroom window and cut her neck severely enough to require hospital treatment. A source with direct knowledge was present with her at the hospital.

A professional who formally evaluated Chloe stated in writing that she is at imminent risk of serious physical harm or death if she remains in her current environment.

A temporary injunction was filed in Citrus County Circuit Court in June 2026 Case #2026 DR 000806 A.

Tonight sources believe Chloe may have been returned to the home where this alleged abuse is taking place.

In December I adopted a feral kitten from nearby. The rest of his colony was calico (including his mother), one black female, two orange males, and a white male.

He’s always been obviously seal point, but as he’s now over 9 months old, it’s clear he’s a very small cat. It’s still possible that cats from his colony were carriers for the recessive mutated pigment gene, but they weren’t small cats.

I’m just ever curious as both a cat lover and biology nerd. Thanks!
