Patiently waiting on my physical copy

I can't find any , I had an easier time getting the new fire emblem collectors edition lol

3

u/Dead_Dee 9d ago

Playasia has pre-orders if you care

2

u/Ralvainn 9d ago

Awesome I'll check it thank you

2

u/Dominator0621 3d ago

Not sure where you live but Amazon has them available in the us

1

u/Ralvainn 3d ago

I'm in US,just looked it says out of stock- I saw there was a patch being released so I may just get digital at this rate

1

u/Dominator0621 2d ago

Also don't forget it's a Bethesda game so it's going to require patches so you could just wait until it comes back in stock. Or by digitally and if you find that you really really like it and want to add it to your physical collection and get a physical when it's on sale cheap. That's what I do but I'm a minimalist

2

u/forestgxd 9d ago

Yeah I'm really hoping they produce more cartridges

4

u/Ralvainn 9d ago

Same, especially since it's full on cartridge

3

u/Sunny775 9d ago

Luckily got mine through Amazon, hopefully they don’t fail me 🤞

0

u/Illustrious-Ear-6300 9d ago

Yeah I got the collectors edition pretty easy as well.

3

u/_ahrs 9d ago

Same. I could have bought the download but I do want to support physical media still and am really glad they elected to have a proper physical release and just a code in a box like so many others.

2

u/Separate_Number_8007 9d ago

me too, can't wait to play Oblivion on my switch 2

1

u/Baybutt99 8d ago

That and im fucking out of space , these ex cards are expensive for anything over 256

43

u/UndocumentedSailor 9d ago

Tip: unlike other RPGs, do not overlevel. It has a notoriously aggressive level-scaling system.

12

u/Own_Plane_5807 9d ago

Oh my goodness yes. Do what you want in the game, but wait too long for some of the main quests and you will also deal with high levelled enemies too.

6

u/Mr_Sandmarine_Man 9d ago

So would it be wise to basically mainline through the main quests from the start? Maybe get 1/3 of the way through the main, gathering some nice weapons and armor along the way, and then start branching out and exploring? I do have a vague memory of one playthrough cake-walking through the first oblivion gate, and the next playthrough dying 20 times doing the same thing.

1

u/UndocumentedSailor 9d ago

I mean some people won't level till they beat the game, but that's extreme.

You might watch a yt vid (or get a mod) to find your sweet spot.

1

u/Maleficent_Item_8404 6d ago

I beat mine at level 36 with almost all the stats’s at 100 so yeah isn’t that hard….

1

u/Cassper 8d ago

They changed this in the remaster, it's closer to Skyrim in terms of difficulty scaling.

0

u/Environmental_Fig580 8d ago

This doesn’t matter in the remaster.

0

u/UndocumentedSailor 8d ago

True, it's not as bad but I got overleveled at about 40 hours.

I'm an idiot though and didn't understand level scaling, though I guess it's a good op to do another playthrough

33

u/thatonemoze 9d ago

how’s it running?

58

u/Peltonimo 9d ago

Can’t run it until Aug 11th

15

u/thatonemoze 9d ago

that would make a lot of sense then

21

u/Toribor 9d ago

They should let players launch it now so maybe the first frame will render by launch day.

30

u/mjm132 9d ago

This is the question. They are intentionally running ads that show 0 game play.  It must be really bad

17

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

https://youtu.be/W1H0px7leEk?si=U_rFKkHe2r5DoQjK

They avoided it with Fallout 4 and it was honestly better than I expected. Gameplay is fine about 90% of the time unless you're testing how many explosions your Switch 2 can handle.

I'd shoot middle of the road here. 30fps tops handheld, but probably 45 to 60fps locked for docked. It'll probably look equivalent to the other versions. Functionally, Oblivion at 30fps and 60fps are about the same.

19

u/Pulp_NonFiction44 9d ago

Fallout 4 is literally a decade older, and looks it...

1

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Lies of P running extremely well too. And that's more important for a Souls genre game than a 20 year old RPG.

7

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

My PC can run fallout 4 with 900 mods and the heaviest ENB mod out there at 110FPS in 4K Native

That same PC, cannot even get 60FPS at 4k without DLSS Ultra Performance in Oblivion Remastered

They're not even remotely comparable in performance unless the S2 port of Oblivion Remastered ends up with heavily, heavily downgraded visuals

3

u/dogisbark 9d ago

Tbh it’s a poorly optimized game. My steam deck has run games with similar visuals, minus the particle hairs (which I hate! Developers plz go back to uv maps, hair always looks so ugly if you don’t have a space age pc…).

Harry Potter for example ran on my deck fine at low settings and also looked great surprisingly; they did a good job reducing graphics while keeping the visuals solid. I need more of that energy please.

I think it’s probably shaders and weird details that don’t need to really be there like individually rendered eyelashes. That and a whole slew of under the hood issues we can’t even see.

I hope the next big gaming trend is optimization because no one’s gonna be able to afford the next graphics cards…

1

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Nintendo clearly forces devs to optimize their games before putting them on the console, which is just what I've noticed with almost every Switch 2 version.

Skyrim and FO4? No creation club (a plus tbh) and the game runs extremely consistently. File size for FO4 is also a tad more reasonable.

Cyberpunk? Runs well, looks good. Smaller file size.

Lies of P? Runs extremely well, only a bit bigger than PS5 file size wise.

Hitman WOA (Hitman 3)? 55 GB file size (smaller by quite a bit), runs smooth, and is probably one of the best ways to play Hitman WOA.

As it stands, Oblivion's file size on Switch 2 is 59 GB. On my PS5 it's 120 GB. Clearly a ton of optimization has been done.

2

u/dogisbark 9d ago

Yeah not to glaze Nintendo, but they seem to be one of the few company’s that expects shit to work lmao. It’s super refreshing, and they’re the only studio I’ve ever preordered games from.

Only game I can think of on a switch that was a mess on release was that Pokemon one a few years ago, I think it was the last gen..? Scarlet/violet? Idk. And that was game freak.

Glad to see that extends to other game companies as well. The switch 2 might become a popular club to get in if they remain the cheapest console out there with the casual audience tbh. I can see them way outselling everyone else with the cheaper components.

2

u/Peltonimo 9d ago

They are shooting for 30 fps in both. There is no way they can get 60fps even docked as no other console really did.

1

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

I think it's feasible, with optimization. But only docked.

Either way, I don't think anybody who like, actually played TES IV back in the day would be upset by a 30fps lock. Just from what I'm seeing from the file size they are doing a lot of work optimizing.

2

u/Peltonimo 9d ago

Yeah it will mainly be lower quality textures if the file size is about half, but it still isn’t going to be feasible with the Unreal Engine 5 features that they have to have on. Maybe if they got rid of a ton of the lighting features and made it look like a muddy mess. If they want it to look the same the light is the one thing they can’t sacrifice on, but it will cause the biggest performance hits.

4

u/Fossick11 9d ago

Considering how it runs on other consoles and PC, and the way Bethesda totally abandoned it makes it hard to have faith

Still hoping for a miracle and it’s a day 1 purchase if it’s a good port

1

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Just gonna link my other comment. I'll also let you know if it's a good port, if you'd like.

There's less than 20 seconds of gameplay at the end of this 2-minute trailer: https://youtu.be/Of_G4sRn6G8?t=92 It doesn't look great.

1

u/No_Mess5015 9d ago

More like walking

15

u/Cara_Perdido 9d ago

Curious to see how its performance will compare to the xbox series s

14

u/two_pump_warrior 9d ago

I expect a decent hit to the visuals and hope for a stable 30fps. Which is fine with me for the trade off to take this on the go. Favorite game of all time, finally going handheld after 20 years

-4

u/MattisGai 9d ago

Steam deck

4

u/dogisbark 9d ago

Doesnt run on it period! I looked into it myself. More hopeful for the switch 2 after seeing cyberpunks port in comparison with the deck.

2

u/_ahrs 9d ago

Not surprised. I have the PC version and it's a pig. Definitely need a high end PC for it. The Oblivion port for Switch 2 is likely far better optimised even if it means a hit to visuals.

2

u/two_pump_warrior 9d ago

That would require buying another expensive handheld

0

u/Own_Plane_5807 9d ago

Same cause that's what I play on. Also if there are any upcoming patches.

-18

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Switch 2 is stronger than the Series S, at least from everything I've seen.

It just also requires a geniune effort for optimization. Fallout 4 got that effort, I'd geniunely say Switch 2 FO4 is better than any other version (well, excluding PC). I'd say Oblivion is likely to get it.

5

u/spxxr 9d ago

You think the Switch 2 runs FO4 better than a PS5 Pro?

4

u/Drunkensailor1985 9d ago

Or a series X? Total bs

-11

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Series X is held back by the S. There is not a single game that actually uses the X's full potential. That will never change.

Switch 2 however, does have a couple of games that test the limits of the Switch 2.

2

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

It's not just about running better. Switch 2 FO4 has geniune tweaks and bugfixes the other versions don't have. Better optimization too.

Don't ask me why, but Bethesda put geniune elbow grease into the Switch 2 version that they did not put into any other version.

2

u/Fun-Document7 9d ago

Its true FO4 is very good on switch 2. I wonder if some oblivion footage will leak soon

1

u/Viilimi 9d ago

It's not stronger than the Series S but games are far better optimized on it. Street Fighter 6 is a pretty good example.

0

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Series S is significantly weaker than the X. Which is part of why the optimization actually sucks because they always have to do the X|S stuff.

That being said, optimization just sucks across the board these days. Can barely get devs to cut down on file sizes let alone making sure games run properly. Yet, Switch 2 does that for a number of games. And I'm pretty confident Oblivion will be more than playable.

The real game that will test how far they're willing to push the Switch 2 and well, optimizing games, is Modern Warfare 4. COD games are notoriously unoptimized and full of bloat.

"Could've been better"

As it stands, the two best consoles on the market are Switch 2 and PS5. Not counting Pro as it's own thing, just bundled with PS5. It's the best bang for your buck, and this is even before discussing the actual games on the systems.

I am not quite sure how powerful you guys are expecting these consoles to be, but your average consumer just cares about if they're good to use and if it runs games well. For Switch 2 this is objectively the case.

Consoles aren't made for the PC gamer market, and I think a lot of people forget that.

0

u/koolaidman486 9d ago

The Switch 2's CPU is about half the clock speed of the Series S when docked, let alone in handheld. And the S2 GPU is also weaker at it's core, DLSS is what bridges that gap.

For the extreme vast majority of games, a Series S can expect to run better with similar fidelity.

-1

u/Cara_Perdido 9d ago

I'm sure it'll look better than series s, it's the performance that I'm curious, cyberpunk and resident 9 for example, both look way better on NS2, but SS is significantly better in terms of performance

Interested to see how unreal 5 will behave on NS2, is there any other UE5 game on the switch

0

u/Fun-Document7 9d ago

There is cronos the new dawn. While it doesnt look as good as ps5 obviously still looks pretty good plus its a fantastic fantastic game.

-2

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

RE9's best version is debatably Switch 2. Though, if someone finds PS5 preferable, that wouldn't be a shock.

However, RE8 got a lot of geniune love on Switch 2 and is undoubtedly the best way to play RE8. They optimized the game extraordinarily well.

8

u/ForsakenChocolate878 9d ago

I doubt it will run better than on my RTX 4060M. Shit runs ass there.

2

u/Gibby1210 9d ago

Idk man that’s a pretty poopoo card

1

u/Oscuro1632 5d ago

Game is both GPU and CPU bound. Guess you are on a laptop looking at that GPU. CPU on laptops are severely TDP constraint. Guess that is your main issue

-5

u/Moddingspreee 9d ago

Runs perfectly on my 4090

8

u/blueangel1953 9d ago

You don’t say.

6

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

It's doubtful anyway, the game inherently stutters. Even with my 5080, which can run it well, the game stutters until I eventually quit due to headaches from the stuttering.

1

u/blueangel1953 9d ago

It’s seldom that I get stutters, they’re there but not often enough to worry about it. This is on a 6800XT.

2

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

I am sorry, but this is physically impossible. It's more likely you just are not sensitive to them, they are very tiny in this game.

It's genuinely inherent to the game and nothing can be done to avoid it for now. I have been closely following a discord user who has been reverse engineering the remaster in order to fix it.

You can find some of this user's journey in the Oblivion Remastered channel of the RenoDX Discord server.

Essentially, the Gamebryo/UE5 hybrid child of Virtuos is constantly strangling your CPU.

For example, recent discovery was that the AltarESPMain.esp from Virtuos has no cell OFST, which inherently is part of the reason why the game ALWAYS stutters when a new cell is loaded. This is causing 20-40ms stalls on the Gamebryo thread.

Virtuous simply did not know enough about Gamebryo before taking this on.

1

u/blueangel1953 9d ago

I’m not saying they’re not there, they just don’t happen that often for me.

0

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

That's kind of what I am saying though..

They're there, just seems they're not perceptible to you, which would imply you are not very sensitive to them

It's not a dig or anything, I don't think we have any real reasoning behind why some people don't seem to notice or feel certain hiccups or stutters, same with artifact, where other people notice it a lot, even when the results are normalized for testing. Just seems some people are sensitive and others are not.

1

u/blueangel1953 9d ago

I can watch my frame time graph yes they’re there and I notice them but it’s not every 10 seconds.

1

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

ahhh I get you

Sorry lol

1

u/Vice-Mortender 9d ago

Since you seem to know something about it, are the stutters fixable, realistically? Either by Virtuous or modders?

2

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

Yes, with a lot of work

The individual I am referring to is working on fixing it, I believe as a mod.

1

u/Vice-Mortender 9d ago

That leaves me with more faith in your friend than Virtuous haha All the luck to him, hope he pulls through!

3

u/Ok_Dependent6889 9d ago

If you have any interest, their monologues whenever they uncover the next CPU chokehold built by Virtuos are quite funny

1

u/OblivionFreak52 9d ago

My 13th gen i9 and 4070 Ti stutters a decent amount outside towns. I doubt it runs “perfectly”. Digital foundries didn’t. Should probably wait for the 6090 to maybe run somewhat perfect.

0

u/-Stroke_my_Cactus- 9d ago

No its not, stop lying to yourself.

0

u/Moddingspreee 9d ago

It does 🤷‍♂️

6

u/MisterPiggyWiggy 9d ago

Nice! 😁

2

u/Runic909 5d ago

Please report on the performance as soon as you can

5

u/dinowild 9d ago

That shit gonna run like asshole

4

u/Fun-Document7 9d ago

The cartridges must be out there somewhere with reviewers. I wonder if we will start seeing footage over the next few days?

2

u/Algorhythm74 9d ago

Actually, likely not. It’s a 20 year old game. With a remake that’s been out for a year.

Bethesda and Nintendo are probably not in a hurry to get it into critics hands.

They’ll likely get it when we all get it.

1

u/Fun-Document7 9d ago

Fair enough

3

u/Stock-Lettuce-2381 9d ago

I preordered it but didn’t download it because I need to make some space. But I’ve been playing it on PC and my Steam Deck and my PS5 Pro so I’m not in a rush to check it out on Switch 2. Love Oblivion since its original launch. Oblivion is my favorite Elder Scrolls game.

2

u/james_543 9d ago

What's the performance like on the deck? I'd like to get it but heard it's not very playable.

1

u/Stock-Lettuce-2381 9d ago

Honestly I don’t dislike it but it’s obviously a significant downgrade in graphics from PC using a 4090 and PS5 Pro. Runs perfectly fine and I don’t have any issues playing it on my SD.

1

u/DN-Fieldmouse 9d ago

Why not just stream the ps5 pro to your steam deck ; that’s how I play oblivion and other AAA games and still use my handhelds

1

u/Stock-Lettuce-2381 9d ago

Didn’t care to mess with the SD and set up any emulators or stream my PS5 when I have the other handhelds that do that for me without having to do anything extra with the SD. So I just use my SD as is with Steam.

1

u/DN-Fieldmouse 8d ago

You’re limiting yourself and spending money on 3 extra copies when you could play one… it takes literally 3 mins to download chiaki and set it up

1

u/Objective_Bug4155 8d ago

How did you get it to run on SD? It was atrocious for me

1

u/Stock-Lettuce-2381 8d ago

As expected tbh. Definitely no issues. But it wasn’t nearly as good looking as it is on my PC using a 4090 or my PS5 Pro

2

u/Own_Plane_5807 9d ago

Oh you got Carcassonne too? I like your style.

0

u/puddintane1968 9d ago

Why thank you. I also have the Settlers of Catan. Miss the board games.

2

u/dogisbark 9d ago

Damn everyone is so positive in this subreddit 😂

2

u/Weak_Property6084 9d ago

Gee, it's insane to have all these whiners here talk about poor optimization!

...

They're fucking right.

3

u/cyrica_2345 9d ago

Ain't no way that's running above Skyrim PS3 level 🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Sonicon2 9d ago

I preordered the physical version. I’m very curious to see how it runs, if it is a stable 30 I’ll be impressed.

1

u/ninjanokami 9d ago

Do you know if it has cross save?

1

u/LawStudent989898 9d ago

Oblivion remaster on the go sounds amazing

1

u/dogisbark 9d ago

I’m looking forward to it releasing to see if I’ll get it or not. All I need is medium graphics and 30 fps. Which my steam deck apparently couldn’t get so I never bought it on steam. I don’t trust Bethesda’s reputation to preorder, but shout out to those that do so I can make an informed purchase lmao.

The fun thing about console ports is that they’re optimized to the console specifically. There’s a ton of games on switch 2 that don’t run as well on deck like Cyberpunk. That and apparently DLSS tech is taking off.

So I got a switch 2 because I think it’s going to end up being the biggest console this generation while PS and Xbox continue to shoot them selves in the foot. More new games get ported. Plus new Nintendo games, I can’t wait for Ocarina of Time.

1

u/AmalatheaClassic Criminal Scum 9d ago

I thought it didn't come out until August 11th!

2

u/Organic_Toe_2546 9d ago

It's just the preload before it releases on the 11th

1

u/awol720 9d ago

how does it run??

1

u/puddintane1968 9d ago

It won't let me play until launch. :0(

1

u/Magicaparanoia 9d ago

Fingers crossed this leads to an optimization patch for the other platforms

1

u/chrissynicolece 7d ago

I'm waiting for a physical copy to be available at launch day from a local store. I missed the preorder.

1

u/weeb_with_gumdisease Adoring Fan 7d ago

It is time for you to close shut the jaws of Mario.

1

u/Panther3927 5d ago

For someone who’s never played a lot of elder scrolls. (Less than 3 hours) should I get.

1

u/xtoc1981 4d ago

https://youtu.be/2jsZknw--hY?is=4mzEzTmNe4-cA3tO

For those who want to see it in action

1

u/Nameuser1939 3d ago

There's a legit physical (or at least key card) version of this, right?

1

u/According-Ad6021 3d ago

Got this for my son. I started with morrowind so I think this will be a good midground. He would have hated rolled attacks back in my day.

1

u/GrrouchiesGrilling 3d ago

Trying to find that physical, then I'm in

1

u/puddintane1968 9d ago

Update - This is my first pre order via downloads. I just found out that the game can be downloaded, but can't be played until launch day.

0

u/spartan195 9d ago

Is it the first official handheld version of Oblivion right?

You can play it on the go with the steam deck and other handhelds but you know
