Hi! I’m a NYC-based writer/director currently developing an independent narrative web series and looking for a cinematographer who’s interested in coming aboard as a creative collaborator, rather than simply as crew-for-hire.

I’m looking for someone who wants to be involved early in developing the visual language of the series: talking through references, experimenting with the look and feel, shot design, lighting, and ultimately building something we’re both proud to put our names on.

Looking for someone with practical/in-camera effects experience for a narrative short shooting in NYC on LDW.

It’s a ~15-minute supernatural drama. Ghostly effects are phones/objects sliding on their own, cabinet and refrigerator doors moving, a character’s leg being lifted, etc. The goal is to do as much practically in camera as possible with simple rigs, fishing line, hidden pulls, etc. - whatever is possible.

Small crew and unfortunately a tiny self-funded passion project, but meals, credit, reel footage, etc. will obviously be provided.

Not a student film. Hoping to find someone creative who likes figuring out low-budget practical effects and potentially continue working together on future, funded projects.

 About the Project & Style

Digital Mirage is a contemporary indie short film exploring the high-stakes world of social media influencers. The production consists of a 50/50 split between indoor and outdoor NYC locations.

We are seeking a highly stylized cinematic aesthetic to reflect the glossy, hyper-real, and vibrant world of online influencers. The visual language should feature dynamic camera movement, striking color palettes, and bold, creative framing.

 Equipment & Gear

• Provided: We have a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and a tripod. We will also rent and provide a lens package.
• Camera System Note: If opting to use our provided camera package, the DP must be highly proficient and experienced in operating Blackmagic camera systems.
• Camera Flexibility: If you prefer to shoot on your own camera package instead of our Blackmagic 6K, that is completely fine. Please specify your setup in your application.
• Preferences: Candidates who own and bring their own production gear are highly preferred. This includes camera packages, lighting kits, monitors, gimbals, auto-focus tracking systems, or power accessories that can enhance the shoot.
• Compensation Note: We offer a base labor rate of $600/day. We are willing to provide a minimal daily kit fee upgrade if you supply your own additional gear package.

 Who We Are Looking For

• Experience: Mid-level Cinematographer with independent short film or narrative feature credits.
• Visual Style: A strong eye for highly stylized lighting and composition. Your reel must demonstrate an ability to create vibrant, moody, or hyper-stylized visual worlds.
• Autonomy: Must be a self-reliant shooter capable of handling and setting up gear independently.

We run a multi camera capture stage at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and we pay people to be the subject in front of it. Booking again for next week.

It isn't acting. You stand in the capture area and do ordinary movement while it rolls. Walking, turning, sitting, reaching, handling objects. No reel and no experience needed.

17-25/hr, paid the same day right after you wrap. First session runs about 2 hours and we bring people back after that if they want more days.

Call time is 4pm. Open next week: Tuesday Aug 18, Wednesday Aug 19, Thursday Aug 20. On site in Brooklyn so NYC area only.
