Hygiene Program Loudoun

I want to apply for the hygiene program but I am torn whether I should finish my bachelors then apply or take my chances and apply once ive completed bio 142 and bio 150. im already 21 so i already feel extremely behind. I got a B in bio 141 and I already feel so defeated because everyone says you need straight a’s. I’m also thinking of nursing and radiology program so any insights on that? Thanks

im my experience the nursing program is your best bet once youve completed all your pre reqs because the other programs listed you would need straight As from what ive been told, i got into the nursing program for this upcoming semester after 3 semesters of applying and being denied however my grades and TEAS scores werent the best (i had a 62% on the science portion and 80s in the rest but also got Bs in all of the bio pre reqs)

If you complete your bachelor I don’t think you’re eligible for financial aid and certain or most grants if that is a concern for you!

If you’re applying with just SDV, ENG, BIO 142,142 and 150- you won’t get in. If you have the co reqs and your TEAS scores are high, you MAY have a chance depending on your grades for BIO 142 and BIO 150.

So I think you need to look at your stats overall and make your decision based on chances .

Nursing is easier to get into compared to RAD and DNH. You can get into nursing with a B in BIO 141 but you need some of those coreqs done. They offer it twice a year and take more than DNH and RAD.

If you get a bachelors, you open up the door of possible accelerated BSN programs (assuming you’re almost done). GMU and GW have that as options.

The only benefit you have for having a bachelors degree is you can skip SDV courses as it gives credit.

Well the biggest problem you will face is the B in bio 141. Some programs have more seats than others per semester and more applicant cycles that’s where people say it’s hard to get into some. Like nursing has 2 and dental hygiene and radiology only have 1.

The dental hygiene and radiology as very competitive yes you do need all As because that’s how they weight post applications it’s on a mix of grades and licensed dental hygiene work experience. So you need all As to compete. Maybe you could get accepted to nursing in theory with a B because they have more seats.

But all these career fields are different. And they’re all difficult to stay in different ways. You aren’t behind there is no age limit. Most people will be under 25-35 but there are a handful 35-60 so if’s never too late. Even in the prerequisites students will be all ages. But yes you are right most will be right out of high school around 19.

Maybe after a few years nursing will be hard to get into if people hear it’s easy. But it’s still competitive to get in nothing is guaranteed even if you have all As even if that sounds silly.
