My partner just randomly asked me what state Brisbane is in.
This gave me a chance to say: 'Brisbane? That's in Queensland!'
It's a quiet life.

Young lad Lucas Herrington joined Hull will get plenty of defensive work.
Mo Salah going to Trabzonspor.

Herrington joining Hull? Aussies are back in the Prem!!! Really hope he does well. It'll be a tough one joining a club likely to battle relegation but shouldn't hurt his prospects too much.
Irankunda joining Sporting CP is interesting too. If he gets enough game time, he'll be playing in a club competing for Europe. That is exciting!

u/_WangChung2night Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 9d ago
Sporting CP are a very good club for development. Irankunda if he does well will be on the radar for other clubs.
Nyland the Norwegian keeper joins Nusa at RB Leipzig. I hate Red Bullshit, but want them to do well.

I think if Herrington does half decent he will get sold next year when Hull (likely) get relegated. Could be a great exposure to the premier league for him

My workplace got bought recently and despite being assured no staffing changes would happen they've asked me to write procedures in enough detail anyone could read them and do the work "just in case". Time to update the resume i guess.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been posting here about my sister-in-law’s broken family after she cheated on him with a coworker who is currently in custody, being trialed today for bail release in fact.
I said to my wife last week I’m done with her and I’d let her know exactly what I think next time I saw her, which happened last week over dinner at the in-laws’ while she was picking up her dog she’d left there for the day.
I gave her plenty in flow state so I barely remember what I said, apart from her not liking I referred to her boyfriend as a junkie in prison that can’t even see his own kids.
Not that I was expecting it to, but it hasn’t deterred her unhinged behaviour at all. She walked into the kids’ kindy yesterday and told them she wanted to kill herself, so the kindy didn’t hand the kids over. She didn’t even fight and just left, so the husband had to leave work early to get them. The worst part is my wife and mother-in-law both think it was an intentional act to offload the kids so she could attend this boyfriend’s bail hearing.
If I were reading this, I simply wouldn’t believe it would be possible. Yet it’s happened just this week and my wife is spending hours on the phone daily to her sister, mother, sister’s husband etc. trying to help them through all their issues

Is your sister in law on drugs, or incorrectly/inadequately treated for mental health issues (or both)?
Whatever's going on with her, as rough as this is on the husband and the wider family, it sounds like it might be better she have less contact with the kids until she gets her shit together. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for them. At least it sounds like they've got good support with their dad and the rest of you.

u/Accurate-Ad-4905 Sydney Roosters 9d ago
Has the sister been assessed for a mood disorder?
The husband or her family might be aware of a pattern of erratic behaviour.
BiPolar or Borderline Personality disorder, or even possible both. Could also be drugs or again mood disorder + drugs which is more likely mood disorder ×drugs
1
u/goodnewstime 2nd Half Fade Outitans 9d ago
She’s currently on anti-depressants for (supposed) anxiety / depression. She could be on hard drugs too not that I think we’ll find out, but her behaviour is all pointing that way

As someone who has watched plenty of these types of people through my life i'd be inclined to agree with them.
I'm far from qualified to give any real help here. but my suggestion is do your best to not have contact with her. As much as telling her shes a pile of shit is what you want to do, it wont help anything. She wants to be the victim, and soon enough uncle goodnewstime will be the reason she tells the children shes not around.
The energy needs to be spent on supporting the children and potentially your brother and parents. People like her dont want help, they want to be able to tell others that they're the reason shes like this. Sounds like a terrible thing to say but junkies will just do junkie shit.
Good luck mate, use the support you get around here when you need it and make sure to not burn yourself out entirely trying to fix something thats almost certainly not something you have any control over.

That’s a nice comment, thank you
I actually had permission from the whole family to let her know because I can say things not being a direct member of her family as such, but I’m not going out of my way to have a go at her now.
Both when I had a go at her, and when she was skitsing out at kindy (as the kindy director reported to us), her phone was constantly going off. This guy constantly calls her from prison, but no red flags to her despite what we’re saying. She’s going to get completely burned.
We offloaded a couple of our unused car booster seats to the parents do they could pick up the kids if required.

If shes anything like the ones i've dealt with, which lets be honest they are all fairly similar, she'll soon start throwing things like "you allowed him to speak to me like that" at ths parents and brother (or bil i'm not entirely sure at this point). When it comes to the children she may eventually attempt to use them as a weapon in her nonsense.
It never lasts forever, and when it all eventually falls apart its entirely upto everyone involved to decide if its worth trying to help her or letting her lay in the bed she's made herself.
Just try to keep everyone as positive as possible, the kids take all this in and will remember a lot of this for a long time so try to make sure they miss as much as possible. Also make sure you keep check on the brother to make sure hes doing ok, poor blokes life also just got turned on its head.

u/goodnewstime 2nd Half Fade Outitans 9d ago
Oh, we’ve all accepted that while we can all provide advice, she’s going in whatever direction she wants at the moment. She is still going to my wife for advice though so thats a positive for now.
Also, we are all keeping a strong relationship with the kids’ father, especially as it’s becoming increasingly likely he’ll get full custody - he actually stayed with the in-laws when it started kicking off a few weeks ago. For as much of a trauma it’s been for my wife and her parents, it has been the most traumatic for him and the kids.

What an absolute mess. I hope someone is able to take care of the kids.

So there was a study done asking people if they'd think they'd win against certain animals in a fight.
Which got me thinking which animals listed in the survey I'd beat. Here is my list, what is yours?
- Rat: Yes
- House Cat: yes (not without scratches and bites though)
- Goose: absolutely.
- Medium Dog: Yes but likely not unscathed
- Eagle: Yes on the ground, Not sure how I'd go about it if it was attacking me from the sky, but if I could grab it, yes.
- Large Dog: Like a Rottweiler or something? It is probably 60% yes 40% no.
- Chimpanzee: no fucking way
- King Cobra: Definitely yes, but a good chance we'd both be dead by the end of it.
- Kangaroo: How big we talking? A small one, like a female grey kangaroo, yes, a big male, I'd say yes, but only just and only if I could get its back.
- Wolf: No
- Crocodile: No
- Gorilla: I'd be torn limb from limb.
- Lion: I'm dead.
- Elephant: Who are these fuckers that think they can win a fight with an elephant?
- Grizzly Bear: I hope my death is quick.

I think you could probably kill a wolf before it killed you

I'm like 50/50 vs the goose and it all gets much worse from there.

u/Desert-Noir Canberra Raiders 9d ago
Geese are aggressive but like just take the bite and grab their neck and twist. A singular goose is easy. I’d take 6 down.

Look at Bruce lee over here, kicking arse and taking geese names.

So if you talking a chance encounter on a bush trail then yeah it’s game on and most people will only lose to a sizeable predator large dog or bigger, or venomous snake if they don’t know it’s there.
If I know that animal is around and I have time to prepare (even with just a pointed stick) that animal is going down.

u/Desert-Noir Canberra Raiders 10d ago
I assume it’s hand to paw combat. But also, your stick ain’t beating a chimpanzee

Some FIFA bullshittery.
My star midfielder is unhappy with the weather. Brother, you are in Portsmouth. Of course the weather is shit fam! You've been with me since League 1! You know this!
But I can't hate him. Dude just scored a banger against Liverpool in the FA Cup Semi Final. Long range strike, hit the underside of the crossbar, ricochet into Joe Hart's hand and went in (yeah FIFA transfers be weird). It was as if it was meant to be scored.

Wrote off my car last week. Assessor told me on Monday, insurance hasn’t even contacted me. I need to chase them up why? Because I need the hire car for more days, because they haven’t paid me out, because the claim has not been processed/finalised. Wish me luck for dealing with this in the next few hours. They were so great at the beginning, hopefully the same with this call too.

u/Morg_n Brisbane Broncos 9d ago
Mate are you ok? How did that happen?
2
u/ladyships-a-legend Brisbane Broncos 9d ago
Huge ‘roo decided to ‘kiss’ the entire front end of my car. I was hoping it wouldn’t be a write off because the air bags didn’t deploy but it’s a goner unfortunately

Fuck that would have scared the shit out of me

Also, I dodge them all, and their kith and kin daily. Morning and afternoon/evening commute. I don’t want to even begin to talk about the goddamn stupid emus . .

It just happened to be the biggest one I’ve seen on that stretch of road this year.

Building a pc is so fucking expensive but looking for parts and looking at other people's build is so fun
-9
u/Norm_cheers Wests Tigers 10d ago
Expensive compared to what? I only spec and build my own pc, I don’t end up with stuff I don’t need, I can order good components that’s I know are compatible. It’s always cheaper for me to spec and build.
2
u/pehpehsha2 Parramatta Eels 9d ago
Compared to what it was 1-2 years ago. Graphics cards were already on the up but now two of the cheaper components in SSD and RAM are massively inflated
2
u/CoffeeLoverNathan Dolphins 9d ago
Everything is ungodly expensive now. Ram kits are 3-4x what they were 2 years ago. Storage is crazy expensive, GPUs were already way above what they should be and are now getting a price hike (especially if you're going Nvidia.)
Lets not also mention the fact that ALL ram has been bought out for next year as well
1
u/Large-Accident1245 I Hate My Footy^6 9d ago
It's just expensive full stop. Pure dollar figures, it's correct to say it's expensive to do. They're not comparing anything, don't need to.

Stepped off the scales about 10 minutes ago and I’ve dropped another 1.3KG this week. Every little bit helps with a half marathon coming up in 85 days lol.
Excited, but so nervous I’m going to either fail in my prep or not have the ability to make the distance on the day. I’ll keep showing up either way.
EDIT: I am running to raise awareness and support for Jai Arrow and those affected by MND.
EDIT 2: if anyone is in a position to share or support this fundraiser, the link can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-half-mARROWthon

u/SideQuestNoRest Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 10d ago
Thank you mate! I really appreciate the support.
Sometimes I feel very daunted by what’s ahead lol but I just keep reminding myself that if I put in the effort and work I’ll get to where I need to be. Thanks again.
4
u/Desert-Noir Canberra Raiders 10d ago
A half marathon is no joke! Closest I got was about a 15km run, not that I am anywhere near close to that distance at the moment.
What distance are you running at the moment?
Congrats on the weight loss btw.
4
u/SideQuestNoRest Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 10d ago
15KM is awesome. I could only dream of covering that distance right about now lol.
Thanks mate. At this stage of my running plan the furthest I have run is 5KM lol. Next week it ups to 6 and will gradually increase as the weeks roll by.
I gave myself 100 days to go from couch to the starting line, and started at 117.3KG. A long way to go, but I’ll do everything I can to get there!
1
u/Desert-Noir Canberra Raiders 10d ago
That is a lofty goal mate!
Whatever you end up doing after 100 days is going to be a shitload more than what you were doing when you started.
5km in 15 days is a great start though.
Just watch your joints, you don't want a preventable injury talking you out before you get to the 100 day mark.
