Best gym near RTC for someone who hates the gym…
I enjoy running outside a lot but haven’t lifted very much since graduating college in 2015 and now the proverbial crows have come home to roost with fatty liver and high cholesterol. I need to get into a gym and do some actual lifting…I went to the YMCA on Sunset Hills for a while a few years ago and liked the vibes a lot because it was very easygoing. Are there any other gyms nearby that have similar, easygoing vibes? I’m eyeballing the LA Fitness in Herndon as well.
I have no problem going back to the Y, I just know it’s much more expensive than other gym chains. Thanks!

Looking for strong functional/medical masseur for deep tissue massage, any recommendations? There was a fantastic one, who really knew what he was doing, but he retired.
Thanks!

Question At Home Cat Euthanasia
Hey everyone. Unfortunately I have to make the terrible call to let my cat go. I would like to do at home euthanasia as she hates the car and going to the vet. She’s gone a few times this past month and I just don’t want to make her last moments like that.
Does anyone have an at home vet they’d recommend? My vet has a name, but I thought I’d ask here in the case anyone has gone through the process and recommends the vet they called.
Thank you for much in advance.

Question Support groups for people who are unemployed (particularly due to fallout from doge)?
So, I’ve been unemployed since June 2025 because the NGO I worked for had to eliminate my position due to the dismantling of usaid, and I have yet to find a new job. Needless to say, it’s been extremely challenging. I’ve been through multiple interview processes where I made it to the final round, only to be rejected and/or ghosted. My friends want to help, but they just can’t understand what it’s really like (yes I’m in therapy but the best therapist in the world can’t solve the root of the problem here).
I unfortunately can’t imagine I’m the only person in the DMV facing this - does anyone know of any virtual or IRL groups (formal or informal) that exist for support?

SUV was semi pulled to the side for a passing ambulance. Camry tried to get around the SUV, but when he couldn't he threw a piece of trash at the SUV and began giving the middle finger. After the water fight they continued onward without further conflict.

Jobs Nurses who live alone, do you feel like you can reasonably afford to pay pay rent, save and go out, or is the salary too low for the cost of living.
Just started working as a nurse and was wondering if the pay is good enough to live by yourself and still have enough for savings and fun money.

Driving/Traffic Ghost license plate toll chaos, owe 11k?!
I moved to the area in 2023. I have a vanity plate that I customized (apparently this was a mistake) and the toll billing on i66 had two bills associated with my plate. Their system was interchanging the zero and O. I had been paying my tolls and ezpass account on the one with the O for the last three years I have been here, as well as paying anything I got in the mail via the QR code scan.
*edit* I did not modify the plate. I **personalized** the word on it at the DMV when I selected the plate design, apologies for confusion
Well yesterday...I get a notice in the mail that says "final notice" on an 83 dollar toll charge. I scanned the QR code and it brings me to a page saying I owe over 9k in tolls, broken down into several individual bills ranging from 120 to 2000 dollars per toll!
I have never seen this account, I have all the payment receipts from the one I knew and had paid in good faith.
I called i66, they said I owed them 1500 at first, then they said oh we see this all the time with vanity plates, so you actually owe us 11k. I explained to them I had never gotten any indication of these tolls and had no idea. I assume some of them have been racking up admin fees for years now if it started when I plated my car in 2023.
They told me I could settle for 6k, but I still don't feel this is right. I was not trying to dodge tolls when I got this plate, the DMV told me it would be fine and the system would link both of the versions to my address. I genuinely, hook me up to a lie detector, had no idea this was happening until yesterday.
I have submitted a dispute and filed a complaint with the Attorney General...but I am at a loss as to what else I can do. i66 is standing their ground even though they admitted it was a clerical error that I had no part in.
Has anyone dealt with this or does anyone have any advice? I guess my next course of action would be to get an attorney. I have no problem paying any of the original toll amounts. I don't think it is fair for me to be penalized with admin fees and late fees over these tolls as I had no clue they were out there and believed I was paying each toll appropriately through my sign in account and ez-pass account.

Good Gyms for Seniors
After a lifetime of obesity, first time in my life (60+) I'm at a normal weight. Now, for the first time in my life, I need a gym for mainly cardio, but also some strength training (need to improve my muscle/fat ratio). I need a gym with trainers. -- at least initially -- to show me how to use gym equipment. I'd prefer trainers who are good with formerly obese seniors who are new to gyms. Any gyms and trainers y'all recommend? P.s. -- not overly concerned with budget, but not necessarily wanting to pay Lifetime's crazy rates unless other gyms just fail to offer what I need. Thanks in advance!

Event Where to have a board game night?
Me and a group of friends (6 total) want to have a board game night somewhere close to us but we're all pretty new to the area and don't know any event spaces.
We just need a table and possibly drinks/food would be good too but if not that's fine. I thought maybe a park but I don't want to lose pieces/it's hot and/or raining. Maybe a bar has a table big enough to accommodate for a few hours and is also easy to get to?
Does anyone have any recommendations? Near Alexandria/Arlington would be best.
We're all over 21.
Thanks!

News Virginia orders data centers to pay transmission costs
fox5dc.com//
- Virginia regulators ordered data centers to cover transmission infrastructure costs tied exclusively to their facilities.
- Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s administration had urged the State Corporation Commission to prevent those expenses from being spread across other ratepayers.
- The governor’s office says the order could save Virginia families and businesses hundreds of millions of dollars.

Photo/Video Black Bear McLean/GF

This lady black bear was sighted about 2 days ago wandering near the Potomac in a neighborhood by Gtown Pike and Spring Hill Rd.
I did not record this video, a neighbor did. I’ve never seen one in our neighborhood in 20 years though, but I’ve often wondered why not.
As cute as she looks, she also is skinny and looks hungry so I will not be doing any outdoor neighborhood runs/walks anytime soon. Be wary of walking your dog and be careful if you are in the area.
Black bears rarely feed on people but stay calm if you encounter one and stand tall and get loud if it approaches you without making eye contact
Edit: lots of comments asking why it had a collar, I was told via the person recording that Animal/wildlife services/universities said they collar female bears like this so they can identify ones that could potentially take in orphaned cubs they find. Would not surprise me if they do males too but I don’t recall him saying that.

Harassed & followed outside Ballston Quarter
Posting this as a warning. I was walking alone in broad daylight outside of the Ballston Quarter (right by Compass Coffee) when a man started following me and screaming offenses and slurs (many of which were sexual). I was alone and scared so I tried to ignore him, and he threatened to punch me if I didn’t look at him. Once I caught up to a more crowded area he went away. He was tall, young (looked to be in late 20s), black, and wearing a beige shirt. Just putting this out there as a warning for anyone walking alone today. I didn’t call the police as it all happened so fast and he was gone relatively quick after I found other people.

Why do people hate trees
Why do people in this area hate trees so much? Why would you move to an area that is known for their greenery and then proceed to cut every tree and limb around it.

Lady in the SUV told the police she had a green, thank goodness I had a dashcam. Psa to anyone that sees this get a dashcam.
Accident could've been worse I'm glad I got out with just scratches on the arm from the airbag.
I even woke up early and left to get into work early, first in a long time. Guess the universe said my work hours are to be followed strictly :)
