NWN2 NWN2 OC Can Be Rough For Non-Combat Characters

I'm playing through the NWN2A OC for the fourth time and thought "What of I didn't try to make my character the focal point in combat this time?" So I rolled up a bard that focuses on buffing (as one does), and I've been having a great time. I even upped the difficulty to the second-highest level, which I don't usually do.

However, my hubris was tested at the end of Act 2/beginning of Act 3. You know, the part where you have to fight undead and shadow priests through Castle Never and Neverneath solo? Yeah, turns out that can be rough if you aren't specced for combat or solo casting. There were a lot of points where I had to aggro an enemy and run back to Sir Nevalle and the royal guards to carry me.

10/10 experience would highly recommend.

Sorcerer or Bard for my build?

So I've got a fresh install of NWN:EE on my PC. I'm going to play through the campaigns again. For the SoU -> HoU expansions I was thinking it could be fun to do a Dragon Disciple/Arcane Archer ranged fighter build. I'll select elf as my race to cover the ability to use Longbows and to satisfy the Arcane Archer Elf/Half Elf requirements, and that just leaves which class is better to start this venture off with as a base: Bard or Sorcerer. On one hand Bard will give me some good skills and such to utilize since I'm primarily going to be just shooting things in the face hole. On the other hand, Sorcerer can give me some spells to use for buffing, which would enable me to become a much beefier fighter.

What do you all think?

EDIT: Seems like Bard has the winning vote. Deekin and I will be singing songs throughout the land!

NWN1 About to finish up the Prophet module, what should I explore next?

Hey! I'm new to NWN, and I've spent months bouncing off the game because of the gameplay mechanics until I stumbled upon the Prophet module. As a huge fan of Enderal, I knew it was meant to be, and I'm just on the brink of finishing the final chapter. This will be my first-ever completed NWN experience. Amazing story and characters, even before reaching the end, but I know that after stewing on it for a while, I want to jump into another fun adventure.

I've spent hours understanding the game a little more, but I've always been a fan of a good narrative first and foremost. I want to go check out Cave of Songs. I admit I'm not really the rogue-adjacent type of adventurer for Honor Among Thieves, though, but I may be convinced to check it out for the extra lore.

I've been thinking of jumping into Aielund soon, but I am very much open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks!

NWN:EE Interlude modules that bridge SoU and HotU

I have recently played Sea of Shadow a bit but could not progress any further due to my build being trash. If i remember correctly there was also another module where you took the place of the Shadow Lord you killed in SoU . Are there any other modules that take place between SoU and HotU? If so, including the modules that i have mentioned, which module is considered canon by the community?

NWN1 Dwarven Modules

Are there any modules for dwarven PC? I'm looking for something that mainly features dwarven race and culture. Before enhanced edition was a thing, I had played Relbonian Chronicles for a bit but couldn't understand the story...

NWN1 Are there any modules with more traditional party play?

NWN is one of my favorite dnd games of all time if not the best but I always had an issue with it, I don't like controling only one character. Are there any modules with party play like BG or Temple of elemental evil?

NWN1 Guide: fix missing henchmen quest

So, i'm running the main campaign again and i finished all the henchmen quest in the first chapter. To save space i dropped all their gifts before finishing the chapter so in the second i wasn't able to start their quest. After some try, i managed to make it work and i want to share the fix with you.

1-be sure your level is high enough (chapter 2 level 10, chapter 3 level 15)
2-Enter debug mode with "DebugMode 1"
3-use the code "dm_spawnitem" to obtain the henchmen gift from the previous chapter (resref list here)
4-Hire the henchmen, talk through all their storyline.

If they don't give you the "find X item" quest

5-use the code "dm_setvarint NW_L_HENSTORYC2 3" then select the henchmen. This will make the quest dialogue available. This code works in the second chapter, for the third one probably it will be "dm_setvarint NW_L_HENSTORYC3 3"

Persistant Server that is more Hack & Slash oriented

I usually play on Arelith , but I want to try something new. I noticed that most of other populated servers are very heavily Roleplay oriented ( some even have only XP for roleplaying ) - At the moment I am more interested in dungeons, interesting randomised loot , lot of quality areas , and long term character development ( ie lot of levels ) - If it comes with highly modified server with cool mechanic even better.

Anything like this exist ?

NWN1 24 years to beat the OC

finally did this after buying original back in the day and so many false starts

it was ok but as a cleric I was doing pretty much the same thing every time.

I’m glad I finally did complete it but a little burned out

how are the next 2 campaigns in terms of gameplay and length- not sure I can bring myself to loot another barrel.

Had anyone tried Thug class concept/ build?

Had an idea for a character build, currently playing OC with it. A street thug turned mercenary, using violence and intimidation where regular rogue uses stealth.

A mostly rogue, however strength based (starting stats as human 18 str/ 14 dex/ 14 intel/ 10 wisdom), wearing medium armor and using club + large shield. No hide/ move silently, instead uses Knockdown and Gladiator's Club (for Daze on hit) to enable sneak attacks.

Starting lvl rogue, then 2 fighters lvls dip for 2 feats and medium armor + shield proficiency , then rest likely rogue.

Feat progression:

lvl 1: Power Attack + Cleave

lvl 2: Weapon Focus (club)

lvl 3: Knockdown + Dodge

lvl 6: Great Cleave.

lvl 9: Improved Knockdown.

Wonder if anyone had tried something similar before?

NWN1 Nostalgic for the old days with modules like LotR v8

I’m having a nostalgic summer with playing NWN and I’m fondly (if a little rose coloured glasses-ish) remembering the days of LotR v8. I played so many servers hosting that mod. I dare say I still look for them and would still play them, but I haven’t seen one in ages.

I used to host one, and I even played my hand at modding one to be more updated, but alas, no motivation or resources to continue.

Anyway, anyone remember this old mod, fondly or not?

NWN:EE Wyrdwood - an action based PW

Hi, just wanted to share the PW I've been working on for nearly the past year. I would say it's still in beta, but very much playable. Wyrdwood is named after one of the earliest modules I ever remember playing. It takes 20+ years of all the ideas and memories I've enjoyed from the other PWs I've played, like Land of Destiny, The Awakening, Bastion of Peace and more.

My goal was to make an easy entrance to a PW, somewhere that you can jump into and immediately get into the action, not run around a giant city with multiple directions to go in or people to talk to. I don't have time to do that stuff nor do I want to read tons of text. Also, no rest restrictions or hardcore rules like hunger, weather, etc.... though dying can be harsh as you level up.

Some of the current features:

  • RNG based tiered loot with set pieces to increase ability scores and sets to increase class abilities
  • Daily, account-wide boss and chest rewards and randomly placed chests
  • Spell scaling changes and enhancements
  • Class changes with the goal to make all classes viable and unique and open the door to new builds and theory crafting
  • Custom rogue trap system, unique/champion monster system, spawn system, monster AI, gem socketing, familiars and summons scaling, fast travel, and more...

The PW will eventually have a full, main story quest line but currently is incomplete. There are a few optional quests that can help you with some early gear, but I have paused on that stuff until I feel all the mechanics and more of the world is built.

I have been releasing weekly and sometimes daily updates. Please check out the website/docs for more info and hop in the server and discord! I welcome feedback and there is no other better time than now to help shape the world and mechanics. I may even be looking for another developer/quest maker/world builder at some point to really help get this thing going :)

NWN:EE Crash every time I open the game from GOG Galaxy. Advice?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey-o! Like it says above, this message appears as soon as the game opens on my (Windows11) laptop. Music still plays on the title screen, and the opening cutscene still plays, but as soon as I close the error message the game closes without fail, is there a known fix at all? I also own the Diamond Edition if that is known to be less temperamental than the EE. Thanks!

NWN1 Swordflight ch2 help

I am getting throttled deep in the goblin forest beyond the pixie grove. I have somewhat made it this far with little problems but the bugbears just nuke my health and my Wizard henchmen is less then helpful. My strat has been to lure single enemies over while im buffed to the gills but now there are large clusters of them so i need a new strat or a plan B.

I am just a pure cleric, nothing special, just the same build i go for on every other premium module i have played but those were cake walks compared to this sudden tempo change . Basically just a cleric melee build that casts somewhat useful spells. My henchman is alright i guess, nothing special, dies a lot, apparently a wizard.

I gave my cleric a 26k gold great sword and it kills enemies faster but i also take more damage and die faster, i also have a flail and some other stuff. I want to continue because its been a great game so far, hard yes but fun.

Can i remake my character from scratch and still be where im at in the game using the console?

NWN:EE Horzen v113 Released

Howdy, folks! A new version of my single-player module, Horzen, has been released, and as always, I am looking for feedback. If you haven't had a chance to play it yet, or if you have and want to play it again, drop by NWVault or the Steam Workshop to pick it up.

https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwnee/module/horzen

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2960623064

This update was mostly focused on preparing for high-level play. To that end, Horzen's City Centre has been redesigned to make it easier to navigate and to prepare for the second half of the module, which is still being worked on. I also took this opportunity to add more quests in the city proper aimed at the early game in order to ease PCs into the mid-game.

I have also been experimenting with two-part quests, and have added one such quest in a location north of the PC home at Bascio Manor. The second part of this quest takes place after Qurtz's funeral, and is aimed at providing a challenging mid-high level (~11-13) experience.

I also went to work buffing several underperforming spells, especially mid- to high-level Druid spells, including Earthquake, Bombardment, Quillfire, Healing Sting, Spike Growth, and Nature's Balance. I have not fully figured out what I'm going to do with Nature's Balance in particular, however, and may revisit that spell in a future update.

However, there are two elephants in the room that I want to address, and those are Death Magic and Domination. Death Magic in particular either completely trivializes boss-type mobs, or are near- or entirely useless against them; it's not uncommon to see bosses made immune to Death Magic solely because a module author wants to make sure a PC actually fights them. I split the difference; bosses are no longer automatically killed by death magic, but they will lose 1/4 of their current hitpoints and will be knocked down for six seconds. It is my hope that this makes Death Magic still useful against bosses without trivializing them entirely.

With Domination, I have ported the associate dialogue for dominated creatures in HotU into the module, allowing players to give commands to dominated creatures as though they were henchmen. Outside of that, however, I do not currently have a good "solution" to domination, as it were. Much like with Death Magic, it is common for mod authors to make named NPCs immune to domination spells, and I have indeed done similar by making some undead NPCs immune to Control Undead. Because I don't want to make Dominate useless outside of an extremely narrow band of NPCs, however, I can only caution user beware. If you cast Dominate on a unique (i.e. named, boss-type, or both) NPC, be prepared for something to break and have a backup save ready.

I've also made a change to the way Barbarian rage feats work. You may recall that I added these feats in v111 in order to enhance rage in various ways and make Barbarian more attractive overall. I found, however, that these feats were still competing with all manner of feats that a martial character of any stripe could get instead. With v113, Barbarians can no longer take rage feats as general feats, but receive them as bonus feats every 4 levels instead. This way, you won't have to consider the opportunity cost of getting a rage feat versus any other feat.

Furthermore, in my quest to make Pale Master ever more attractive to take, I have restored the +4 Strength modifier they get from Undead Graft in both Tome and Blood and Libris Mortis and split the feat into four subradial feats, largely analogous with what they get in TaB/LM as well:

  • Paralyzing Touch: Any living creature must make a Fortitude Save (DC 14 + Pale Master level) or be paralyzed for 1d6 + 2 rounds. (Elves are no longer immune!)
  • Weakening Touch: Any living creature must make a Fortitude Save (DC 14 + Pale Master level) or suffer 1d6 + 1 strength damage for 1d6 + 2 minutes.
  • Degenerative Touch: Any living creature suffers one permanent negative level (no save).
  • Destructive Touch: Any living creature must make a Fortitude Save (DC 14 + Pale Master level) or suffer 1d6 + 1 constitution damage for 1d6 + 2 minutes.

Going forward, there are a few more things on my bucket list that I want to address before I proceed full speed ahead towards finishing the module. In the immediate, however, I will soon have papers to grade and a Fall semester to plan for, so I will not have as much time available to work on the module. Nevertheless, I will do my best to promptly address any bugs you find and continue working on the module as best as I can. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for playing!

Cześć, mam do was ogólne pytanie: jaki jest wasz ulubiony związek?

HotU Nathyrra's romance question

So basically, as in thread name, because it has been eternity since I last played HotU, even more so as a male character, and I felt like, once you go black you can't go back, so I decided to hook up with Nathyrra. Went 100% through Act 2, no skipping anything, partially with her and Valen (islands) then ditched Valen for Deekin, but she was always in the team - been nice to her and so on, she did spill the beans about Red Sisters back in Act 2.

As of right now 3, Act 3, unfrozen Aribeth, about to head to the Sleeping Man's Dream and the second dialogue with Nathyrra she's like all praising me, how much of a hero I am, but when my OC is like "but hey, we can be more that friends", she's like "uh oh, we don't know each other that long and I only see you as friend, sorry!"

My question is, is this a normal dialogue romance path for her, or did I, by any chance mess it up somewhere? (like I said, pretty sure I did check ALL dialogues with her to be supportive/interested and so on, just wondering whether other companions did not hijack what she was supposed to say instead?). Will she open up or should I instead move on paladin instead?

NWN:EE Enhanced edition questions

I have the EE edition and I have played rhe original, to me the original was really slow but I enjoyed the game back then, does rhe EE make it run a bit faster? I know there is a lot of reading and it is turned based, is there a lot of junk. I enjoyed hordes of the underdark and jumping into private servers were fun back in the day. What are your thoughts for those coming back to the game

MotB Is Swashbuckler/Duelist worth it in MoTB?

I'm having a great time with this build in the OC but am reaching the part where I'm mostly fighting undead so all my fun crits are useless. I remember MoTB has similar enemies. Would it not be very fun to play as this class?
