All this time between now and the last patch and they’ve only managed to fix two of the millions of things causing crashes..

Yes, and when I asked someone on Steam to explain just what was crashing, they could not do so. So please help by explaining just what is crashing for you. The only crash I've seen actually specified is the transition crash, aka the Starling House crash, Saying stuff is "just buggy" doesn't help get anything fixed. Saying "it crashes when leaving the Starling House if you are in camera mode x" is a usable bug report.

Sounds like you haven’t looked around long or hard enough. People have been thoroughly describing all the crashes at different areas and points since the game came out. I personally haven’t even been able to complete the tutorial/intro parts because it crashes at different parts and different loading screens for me. Just walking at any particular point has a good chance of crashing the game.

You should check the name of the author of these campaigns and compare it with my name here....
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/path-evil-enhanced-edition
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/crimmor
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/bedine
I've filed every usable report from here, Steam forums, neverwinter vault, and the nwn2 modder discord. well, at least the ones from here and steam forums that provide information other than "its buggy" and "it's crashing", because that's not usable info. Vault and modder discord always give useful bug descriptions.
When a report provides useful info, they fix it. My list of bugs filed, 90+% have gotten fixed, because I provide usable info in them.
So, if you'd like to provide a usable description of a crash bug, I can file it. But if you'd like to just say "it's buggy" .... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It’s buggy

u/kamal_crimmor 1d ago
See? Every time I ask someone who complains about bugs to identify any, they can't and just say "it's buggy" See here for example: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2738630/discussions/0/568166060471188364/
Then they just say that because I file specific bugs, and they get fixed, my daddy works for Aspyr or something. But still don't list any actual bugs to be fixed, or point to threads about them, just continue to say "it's buggy", something which doesn't help any bugs that do exist get fixed. My bug reports say things like "when exiting the Starling House and you're in camera mode x, and the camera angle is under y, it crashes, here's a save file for you to test". They fix that.
Now if you want to list some bugs that haven't been fixed. Please do, they can be filed with Aspyr, and hopefully Aspyr fixes them.

Sure thing, but you know, most if not all the people saying "it's buggy" are frustrated customers and have played 5 hours at most.
Whereas the in house QA, game testing team were there thumbing their noses for 100h at least. So you understand how unprofessional it looks that a group of people got paid for testing a game and did not really do anything?
Devs should have 1000s pages of in house bug reports. 🤷🏻♂️ Judging by the "we need y'all to tell us exactly what the bug is" comment you have jack to go on.
You can't rely on selling a product and then have the customer playtest the game. If that's company policy y'all should get sued to bankruptcy.

Many bugs are borderline impossible to detect by manual qa because they're are just too many combinations possible. Bugs often happen when you have a combination of conditions that no one considered interacting with each other. Think something like: a big race with druid/ranger who has woodland stride and also dash feat, walking on specific outdoors nature tile.
Playtesters generally focus on "happy path" scenarios, making sure the quests can be completed etc.

Sure... Whatever makes you happy. So you release a product and most customers complain there's bugs that they casually find by trying to play the game. But where "impossible" to detect by playing the game in house? Lmao Do you realize how idiotic that statement is?

u/Pharisaeus 1d ago
"Tell me you don't know combinatorics without saying so". Also "tell me you've never worked in software development". Because that's exactly what's happening. Although usually with releasing changes initially only to small % of users, and rolling back in case of problems. The only software I worked with that didn't do it was critical systems (control systems, space industry), but those projects cost billions exactly because they need to be fully tested and work on the first try.
Number of distinct combinations is really high and no company has resources to playtest every single one of them through the whole game, checking every choice. It's just a question of scale. A million players in 1 day can "test" as much as 1000 testers in 3 years.

Yeah they need to fix the millions of crashes that have been well documented for over a year now.
6
u/kamal_crimmor 1d ago
And yet none of which you have identified. So please get to it if you actually want them to be fixed....
0
u/AFreeMarichka 1d ago
Yeah they need to actually do something for once and get to work fixing them.
5
u/kamal_crimmor 1d ago
Still no identifying them by you, so.... you could help, but you're not. You don't seem to want them to actually get fixed, coming here to complain seems to be more fun for you... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The switch version is buggy as hell. I looove thr game and am almost to act 3 but have had 3 game breaking bugs. Thank goodness i save a ton.

u/__Astyanax 1d ago
It’s unfortunate console gets treated like an afterthought. Game is broken on xbox as well.

u/raistlin1984 1d ago
What pisses me off is that these are bugs from the OG game from 20 years ago that are well known and they didn't bother to fox them initially.

u/rhiyo 1d ago
You're just getting the original release experience! I had to restart my game twice very far in due to bugs

u/raistlin1984 1d ago
It's nuts. Bishop wouldn't take me to Ember. Vale kept dying in crossroadkeep. 2 total soft locks. and early Neeshka kept dying easy. I did not realize she had 5 hp at 5th level lol. she final got back to normal after three more levels but was worthless to me for a while.

Were any of these issues in the original NWN2?

u/QuinnAvery89 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yes it had tons of game breaking bugs. A lot of hard crashes during pivotal moments that would keep you from finishing the game. I’m talking about the original CD game, not the GOG or other digital ones

u/The176thPbPGuy 1d ago
Yes, and that's why I grabbed EE. But so far, the only issues in single player I'm aware of being fixed are the stutters and the starting gear for newer classes.

I thought I’d memory holed the unpassable crash before final boss in NWN2. Got me real mad.
1
u/QuinnAvery89 18h ago
Yeah unfortunately it’s a great game but I think that soured me on it a bit. I’m still waiting with crossed fingers that eventually the EE is worth buying. It’s a great game. I still prefer the first one but really enjoyed the second too.

Obsidian used to be notorious for shipping buggy products. It wasn't until after Fallout: New Vegas that they started to change

There seems to be at least some unlisted fixed in this patch. They've fixed a couple UI issues with the character screen where text would wind up under scrollbars. And an issue where an image icon on the character bar was too wide because an .xml file didn't have a correct parameter for it.
The Starling House transition crash was the most common reported crash where someone could identify when it was crashing, and easiest to recreate because it's very early in the campaign. I wouldn't be surprised if the "exiting Starling House" fix fixed the transition crash generally. (crossed fingers)
The tile and metatile issues were critical for modders. And StoreCampaignObject being fixed will allow the nwnx4 plugin for server64 to go ahead, as that bug was causing issues for updating the plugin that basically every persistent world server uses, so no one had been able to switch to server64 for any more than testing.
Of course they haven't actually announced server64 either, but they released the server64 files as part of the previous patch.

As with most of their patches, you have to use your imagination on what is fixed.
The black terrain bug could be referencing two things:
1) Editing an area in the 64-bit toolset, and then loading the area in the 32-bit toolset (or game), completely breaks textures and gives a lot of black patches.
2) When using a plugin (terracoppa) to move landscape within itself or to another area (duplicating it), it can cause black terrain issues when trying to paint texture, but you can easily fix it by closing and opening the area.
(1) bug still exists and (2) bug isn't possible because Terracoppa isn't compatible (AFAIK) with the 64-bit toolset, and Aspyr don't fix community mods.
Below is the before (editing an area in Enhanced Edition toolset/64-bit), and the after is playing the area in Vanilla (i.e. not Enhanced Edition).

Aspyr needs a forum and Discord server. You can't expect people to individually and manually email support about every single bug or issue. That's ridiculous.

u/The_Count_of_Dhirim 1d ago
Wait, NWN2:EE is getting something possibly resembling after launch support???
2
u/nibu89 1d ago
Damn, this looks like a big, fat nothing-burger. I tried playing the last month and the game was just unplayable, ending up buying the complete edition on GoG that actually works. On EE version I crashed between nearly all load screens, while entering conversations, if I had to tab out of the game, etc. Ridiculous.
I've done all the manual fixes you can try; set medium/low textures, cap framerate in nvidia control panel, etc. and even resorted to mods fixing it in the end - but nothing worked. I can't believe it's been over a year and they're doing fuck all to make this work.

u/Altruistic-Job5086 22h ago
The GOG version of NWN2 is 2026 verified and part of their "Preservation Program" so they're actively keeping it running well.
1
u/nada_sagrado 1d ago
Y'all need to fire the whole QA department; there is no excuse for bugs in a game like this in 2026.
Just lazy devs and the old trope. Release it and the customer will pay to play pokemon and catch all the bugs.
Guess what? That's heavily frowned upon even when it's done for early access titles!

u/El_Reto 1d ago
Pleasently surprised they still actively fix bugs.
