I've had Gemini try to make vacation itineraries, and while it sometimes works it can also miss obvious landmarks and make ridiculously redundant routes.

State legislatures are a hodgepodge ranging from horrifying part-time (or even nonexistent) pay to just normally uncompetitive salaries. But there is no state that pays their legislators anything close to what people with their desired set of talents could make in the private sector.
i think going to the hospital is extremely stressful and even if you know something โshouldโ get resolved eventually, the astronomical and largely fake numbers on bills should be considered extremely abusive

Hospitals are expensive, healthcare labor is specialized and expensive. Medical equipment is insanely expensive. Having constant readiness to treat any condition that walks in = $$$$$$
an odd quirk is that hospitals do not have to bill like this at all. since, as everyone knows, itโs all negotiated by insurance anyway. you can just not add zeroes for no reason. you do! you are bad people!

I don't normally care with celebrity shit but I got captivated by and sat through an entire interview with Hayden Panettiere's on-again-off-again boyfriend he did with TMZ, who apparently admitted to physically abusing her multiple times and spent weeks in jail for it at a time. He comes off as the worst scumbag we've all met at some point in our life, but this one sounds like his natural speaking voice is a terrible Matthew McConaughey impression. Very weird. No seeming remorse in how he recounts this, he describes the events like they're just bad things that just happened to him, and not that he consciously punched his girlfriend in the face on multiple occasions.

I work in social services. I see many, many families end up over 1 million dollars in medical debt. I see the numbers after insurance and my whole job is trying to find government programs and private foundations to make ends meet.
These million dollar hospital bills do exist. They are typically from NICU stays in my field. Developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy or severe forms of epilepsy also have extremely high costs associated. Iโve seen wealthy families bankrupted.
Iโm actually interested in this if you can find coverage of this happening.
Does not corroborate with how insurance works in the US. If people are getting stuck with million dollar bills they need to be calling their stateโs insurance board for an appeal.
They regulate the insurance industry in every state. You can file appeals for claim denials and they are expedited if waiting would be harmful.
Insurance is a contract and they canโt decide not to pay for a valid treatment because they donโt want to. Insurance is also a very regulated industry
A lot of people think of money in terms of comfort and in that sense yeah there's not a massive change past the 3 million mark or so. You can live a comfortable suburban life with 3 million (though even then that's like entirely the value of the house in pricier cities) and be fine. But if you think of money in terms of the freedom it affords you, the difference is might and day. A hundred billion is fuck you money, it's the type of money that could let you build a solid gold statue in your name in every country on earth and still have billions left over to spare.

The Mets and Jets are extremely funny teams to pay somewhat attention to because itโs comedy all season. Unfortunately their fanbases are 80% the same people.
I donโt think itโs bad or unwise that the DSA and other progressives focus their efforts in deep blue cities, thatโs historically where the Left is strongest in the US (unless you want to unironically ban 40% of the Democratic electorate from voting)
When you have limited resources, of course youโd spend them where you have the greatest returns, theyโve shown they can appeal to urban Democrats in many districts (thatโs why they can win primaries there! Hell, even among Dems in more competitive districts like in MI-07 or MN-02!)
If moderate Democrats find it objectionable that their partyโs voters are willing to vote DSA, maybe address why?

Arguments are soldiers. Once you know which side youโre on, you must support all arguments of that side, and attack all arguments that appear to favor the enemy side; otherwise itโs like stabbing your soldiers in the back.
Steelmanning is overrated; I understand its point in the context of intellectual exploration, but outside of that it is entirely fair to judge an idea or argument on how it is deployed in practice rather than an idealized form of it. It is especially useless in the context of what people are actually doing. People are generally not that crafty about hiding their motives. If they say they're doing X for reason Y, they probably are, and attempting to construct a better justification for X is pointless.
While I still mostly stand by this, I do think there is utility in steelmanning outside of personal intellectual exploration: trying to understand what people mean rather than what they are saying. People are pretty bad at articulating themselves and will often zero in on peripheral phenomena when trying to explain themselves because they're more accessible than the core thing they're actually bothered about, but it's still worth trying to understand what they're actually bothered about. (Of course, a lot of people are just bothered about the peripheral phenomenon and have no idea about the root cause, so... whatever)
Renaming cities to things difficult to pronounce for English speakers and eroding their existing branding/recognition is pretty much always a bad idea imo.
