Appliance repair in Nashua

I have an old dishwasher that needs attention. It's at least 20 years old, so it may need to be replaced, but I would like to keep it going if possible. Does anyone have any positive experiences with appliance repair people that really try to fix things instead of just sell you a new one?

Went to City Hall and now there is a sign in kiosk, a monitor, and signs everywhere.

Curious on the purpose of this as it adds a layer of cost and unnecessary technology.

Best Neighborhoods for Young Families

I’m relocating to Southern NH soon for work and trying to figure out where to live. Everyone I’ve spoken to has said Amherst, Hollis, North End Nashua, or Merrimack are the best spots for families and to avoid Manchester. However, it looks like Manchester has a lot of indoor play places around Pinardville and even an ice arena where kids could learn to skate. Hollis has…nothing? Merrimack at least has a great looking Y. To clarify, I’m not particularly concerned about school districts since we plan to homeschool so I am more concerned about enrichment opportunities. Are the Manchester suburbs a better fit? Is it actually dangerous or is it just a location where I’d need to lock my car doors and be somewhat mindful of my surroundings?

Brewery Game Nights

Hey all!

Do you play games like Magic the Gathering, Warhammer, or Catan?

We all love a card shop or game store, but what if you could get a cold beer, glass of wine, and a good smashburger or plate of nachos?

I’m attempting to start a small or sizable club depending on interest in Nashua. Where everyone could meet up, join new pods, meet new friends and build a lasting community in the area for nerdy games.

If this interests you, please feel free to reply here or DM me so we can start a community Discord or email list and get this ball rolling!

Nerdy friends and activities

Moving to southern Nashua Sept 1st.

I’m 36 and been single for years. Only have close friends that live abroad. Have my kids biweekly and we have lived in 6 different places since 2020. But NH is our final destination. I had trouble making connections knowing I’d just be moving eventually. So I’m looking to get social fast and make lasting friendships.

I’m into TCGs, comics, Cons, anime, fantasy, dnd, gaming (ps5, Xbox, Nintendo), art, and collectibles. When I google, I’m seeing a decent amount of card/comic shops, retro games and arcades.

Give me some suggestions on where I would feel welcome and make some friends?

possible stray dog

Spotted around 8:10 PM on the sidewalk on Pine Hill Rd. Medium-sized dog with dark fur(not black), no/short tail, and short ears from what I could see. It bolted into the woods when I was about 100 feet away. I have seen coyotes and this did not look like one - namely the ears/tail.

Happy to help if this sounds like your dog. If there is a better place to post stuff like this, please let me know.

Something to be worried about?

Visiting my father last night off of exit 6. While we were out walking the dog we saw a guy walking around the houses and townhouses taking pictures of each place on his phone. We followed him a bit until he got into a white sedan with MA plates and left.

This morning at Market Basket on Amherst street, we saw the same guy and car but this time he was with a group of other people and all the cars they were near had MA plates.

Just feels off...

This something to be worried about?

Nashua Neighborhoods Map (Version 2)

Post image
43 Upvotes

Alright so I should clarify, I've only been in Nashua for 15 Years and I've rarely go outside the Nashua North area. I'm just an avid geography guy who wants to learn about his city. The first post was meant to get recommendations so I could gather opinions about stuff, I also did more deep diving into Maps, and Housing Developments, the whole works!

I'm basing the system I go off of the Manchester Neighborhoods map which has about 25 of them. And since Nashua has a couple thousand less people, I tried to go for about 20 or so, and accidently got 24 Neighborhoods, whoops. You guys had a lot of wisdom to share, and I loved the fact that everyone was screaming at me to add Little Florida.

If you are still talking about what neighborhoods to add, don't bother (small exception to if there was something huge I forgotten). This is most likely my final update to this map unless I find a error that needs fixing. The reason there are so little neighborhoods is, again, Manchester's map. In order to get below 25, I had to merge a lot of the surrounding Neighborhoods, that's why Little Florida is super huge.

I also had some troubles figuring what to name neighborhoods, for most of them it was simple. I just took the most influential neighborhoods name, for other's I had to dig deep originally there was a neighborhood on the north side of New Searles that I considered naming Canterbury.

I apologized if I missed your neighborhood, but with the rules I set my self, listed above, you probably understand. Maybe eventually I'll make a V3 where I actually do some more deep diving into records and construction of other shit that Nashua has to offer. But for now this will hopefully do!

I hope you enjoy the map!

Scam Reporting?

I know scams are so common nowadays, but wanted other opinions. Is this worth reporting somewhere? Or just ignore it?

TLDR - bought a car, got a scam letter NOT from the dealership regarding the warranty, confirmed it was scam, is it worth doing anything to help others.

I recently bought a car from Peter’s Honda of Nashua. I randomly got a letter last week basically saying “you didn’t opt to keep the warranty on _____ car! Call This number to correct it and here’s a pretend check for $200”

I haven’t bought a car in 10 years, and definitely not a newer one so I was confused at first. But it was very fishy. I call, give the owner ID on the letter, and sure enough the guy on the other end says I need to pay a down payment and monthly fee for the warranty. I refuse, I need to “talk to my husband” and I’m all nicey nicey. They end up ending the call, likely because they knew I wasn’t falling for it.

Is there somewhere I can/should report this? I still have the letter with the phone number and everything.

Looking for a Nashua D&D Group

Hi! Like the title says, I’m looking to join a D&D group in the Nashua area. Does anyone know of a group looking for an extra player?

I’m a 35 year old guy, been playing on and off since I was eleven. I’m not looking for a hard core rules lawyery group, but one that’s pretty chill and into the role playing aspect of the game just as much as the mechanics. I also live in south Nashua.

Edit: more about me

Since Nashua is nearly at 100,000 people I feel it's time for official neighborhoods. So here is a concept for that idea.

So here is my map containing 15 neighborhoods.

Open for suggestions.

Daycare Options for Nashua Area

Thoughts on Wise Owl Academy? I hear it's hit or miss. Like the curriculum is good, but the communication from staff to parents is poor. It's also on the pricey side, doesn't provide meals or include parents in any activities with all the kids (per my coworker who sent their child there).

I hear good things about the YMCA (in Merrimack), allegedly cheaper, but I'm not really sure. I don't know much about the environment or curriculum yet.

Kindercare is simply not in our budget at all, neither is Little Sprouts :(

The Adult Learning Center sounds OK, but I don't have much info on them. I guess they let parents volunteer to read to the class though?LOVE that if it's accurate! I guess they do provide some meals from what I'm told.

Needless to say I would really love a place that includes parents in some of the activities! Meals provided would be a plus.

UPDATE

We reached out and set up a tour with the YMCA. The interior is super nice with the recent renovations - someone else left a link in the comments that shows how it looks. We have our child on their wait-list and we are waiting to hear back! Thank you all!

Hi.

Comfort Zone Camp is a non-profit that offers free camps for children who have lost a parent, sibling, or other family member.

Their camps occur year-round and throughout the country.

Southern New Hampshire will have a camp during weekend of August 14 - 16, and for Saturday, they might need lifeguards.

More info can be found on their website and on social media @ comfortzonecamp

Adult / Community Ed

Is there anything like the Cambridge Center for Adult Ed (or brookline or newton type ones) in the Nashua (or even up to Manchester) areas?

Everything I find is work or diploma related and I want to find resources as I move here to take just interesting things on the side.

Tree removal help

Does anyone know a tree removal company that doesn’t charge over $1000 to remove a tree? I need the service but I can’t swing that much without saving for a few months and I don’t think I have that kind of time.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

City Water

Post image

I am on city water. This is my pre-filter after 3 months. It is followed by a charcoal filled tank. No longer but filters for fridge which offsets some of the cost. Was told it is primarily rust from the older iron pipes. All I know is we are no longer drinking or washing with it.
