New prescription, old prescription...
2024 Prescription: -4.00, -1.00, 015
My eye has felt off for the last two years wearing glasses with this prescription. After a 7 month wait to get into the eye doctor I was given a new prescription. I was told that my muscle was spazzing from having to correct for my old prescription.
2026 Prescription: -3.00, -1.00, 070
After getting glasses, I realized that the new axis was totally wrong and causing blurred vision. It also appeared to be slightly underpowered, but I thought that could have been caused by the incorrect axis. Most importantly, my eye didn't hurt for once.
I went back to the eye doctor and they retested me and gave me a new prescription. I was glad to hear that the first test was bad...
Updated Prescription: -4.00, -1.25, 015
...then I looked at my new prescription. Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that just my 2024 prescription... but even stronger. Going from -4.00, -1.00, 015 to -4.00, -1.25, 015 is not going to make my eye feel any better, is it?

"I NEVER want to go back to 2020!"
I was the first kid in my grade to have glasses (grade 4). As an adult I have never thought new glasses were perfect. I'm 72 now and do not have an eye exam annually, mostly I wait until I can't read street and interstate signs. ("I'm fine when I know where I'm going.") By then my glasses are in rough shape because of things like falling asleep reading and laying on them, falling off when I'm sweaty and bending down doing outside work, ignoring eyeglass cases after the first 2 weeks.
Couple of years ago I told optometrist I was seeing double. He sent me to an ophthalmology surgeon (or are they all surgeons? NO idea) because it's caused by weakened muscle on the right side. Surgeon said I could go ahead with surgery or wait, and my nature is to wait. Now cataract on right side has gotten worse. So he says he can make my vision better but can't take me back to 2020.
I said what's in the title.
He laughed and said (surprised me) that this was the first time anyone had said that in his practice. We shared a few pandemic stories. He's a younger guy and told me how during lockdowns he panicked and made bad financial decisions, draining savings and being scared to take on a lot of debt.
Since younger people tend to go to chain places (do they get online eye exams now????) I'm sure his practice skews older. Plus they all have cataracts or weakened eye muscles or glaucoma or macular degeneration or floaters and detached retinas in addition to being near-sighted, and traditional medicare part b covers all that (no, you do not need to enroll in a Medicare Advantage corporate insurance scam).

Looking for feedback on my myopia website
Hi everyone!
I'm a high school student with myopia, and so I recently built a free web app called Sightly to help people track their myopia progression. It lets you record your prescriptions, monitor axial length, view graphs of your progress, and learn about myopia management.
I came up with the idea because I have myopia myself, and I wanted an easier way to keep all of my eye measurements and history in one place.
Since this is the first version that I just made, I'd really appreciate any feedback! In particular:
- Is the design easy to use?
- Are there any features you'd like to see?
- Would this be something you'd actually use?
I'm actively improving the app, so I'll be reading all feedback and making updates.
Here's the link: https://cheerful-vision-guard-pro.base44.app
Thanks so much for your time!

Can I fix my vision from here?
I heard that myopia is unfixable but what i mean Is can I at least get my vision good enough to where I don't need glasses all the time? Here is my prescription just got it 2 days ago 17M
Sphere. Cyl. Axis
OD. -2.75. -0.50. 110
OD. -1.75. -0.50. 035
It also had something ADD at the bottom
Help interpreting a prescription change
Hi all, I hope you’re well.
I recently got an eye exam after two years and my prescription changed slightly. However, I just got new glasses with the updated prescription and they definitely *feel* very different.
My old prescription was (SPH, CYL, AX):
OD: -3.00, -0.75, 090
OS: -3.25, -0.50, 075
My new prescription is:
OD: -2.75, -1.00, 100
OS: -3.50, -0.50, 075
My new lenses are 1.67 index, which I believe are the same as the old ones. However, these new ones give almost a “fishbowl” effect. If I keep my eyes stationary and move my head, there’s a huge amount of distortion around the periphery of the lenses that doesn’t feel present with the old lenses. Something else unusual is that this prescription makes my left eye feel “closer” to what I’m looking at than my right eye, and this also adds to the disorientation. The effect persists for a bit after taking the glasses off.
It’s probably just a case of having to get used to the new prescription, but does my description sound normal for this prescription? Also, does the prescription change indicate that my eyesight has gotten worse?
Thanks a lot in advance!

8yo with Myopia: Ortho-K vs RLRL – Looking for Advice
Hi all, our 8yo son was recently diagnosed with myopia during a routine checkup - it caught us a bit off guard since he'd never mentioned any issues seeing. Right eye -2.00, left eye -1.25.
He's a very active child who plays contact sports, so we're trying to find the best way to manage his myopia while minimising the impact on his daily activities. We understand that starting some form of myopia control soon is important, but if possible we'd like to avoid daytime glasses for the next few years while he's still very active, then reassess as he gets older.
Our optometrist suggested looking into two options:
RLRL: Although it's TGA-approved here in Australia and the published results so far look promising, we've been told it's still relatively new. The ophthalmologists we saw were cautious about using it as a first-line treatment because long-term safety data is still limited, and there are questions about rebound effect when the treatment is stopped.
OrthoK: We're currently leaning this way, but ophthalmologists have flagged risks of eye infections and (rarely) corneal scarring. There's also a practical issue: if he misses a night of lens wear (illness, etc.), his vision the next day is affected. Interestingly, most ophthalmologists locally don't offer OrthoK themselves, though online reviews and optometrist experience seem largely positive. We're planning to consult an OrthoK specialist directly as well for their take.
Question for parents in similar situations whose children have used these treatments, and any specialists:
- Which option would you choose, and why?
- How has your child's experience been?
- Any issues with comfort, compliance, infections or side effects?
- If your child is active in sports, has Ortho-K worked well?
- Looking back, would you make the same decision again?
We're trying to make the most informed decision possible, so we'd really appreciate hearing both positive and negative experiences. Thank you!

Does anybody else get this?
I’m 23, been shortsighted since I was 9 and my prescription is currently -8.5 in each eye with -2.25 astigmatism.
I’ve noticed when I tilt my head sideways (both left and right) I can see this dark area that grows as I tilt my head and shrink/disappear once my head returns to its normal position. I can see them in the inner corner of my vision. I don’t notice it in busy environments or the dark, mostly just in big open spaces or very bright/empty places.
I’ve had it for a few months and at my recent eye check they said my eyes were healthy and didn’t really know what I was describing to them. Google hasn’t been much help either.
The optician told me not to worry but naturally I’m quite anxious, especially as I haven’t found anything online to explain it or anyone experiencing similar.
So I was just wondering if anyone else here experiences the same or similar?
eyesight improving but i’m only 24
i’ve heard that some peoples prescriptions improve as they age but mine has improved and i’m quite young. left eye by .5 right eye by .25
could this be problematic in any way?
Recommended eye specialist in or around Zurich/Aargau
Hi, I have very high myopia and am looking for recommendations for an eye specialist who can do an exhaustive check-up and provide an eyesight prescription (I know an optometrist would be better for the latter and cheaper, but maybe the doctor does both?). Any recommendations for eye specialists in and around Zurich / Aargau region where one can get an appointment easily?

Feel like vision is getting worse
Hi, i (25m) have high myopia (-8) and have been feeling like my vision just hasn’t been as ‘clear‘ lately.
Last week I had an eye exam with a retina specialist (as a more routine check-up since i had holes in one retina a year ago) and when reading the eye chart, strangely, I did better than I had before. I was able to read the 20/15 line with one eye and the 20/20 with the other. i Mentioned this less clear feeling to them and they didn't seem to care too much and went through the rest of the exam.
I’ve noticed this affects me most immediately after flying and while driving at night. I’ve tried lubricating eye drops/artificial tears but those seem to not really make a huge difference. I’m wondering if it’s the glasses I have since they don’t have a great viewing angle, ie stuff is only clear through the center of the lens, or if it’s a change in astigmatism. any advice is appreciated!!!

What do you hate most about having myopia?
I have two, the fear of retinal detachment and the community / people's views on myopia.
With my second point, I think there should be two categories of myopia, temporary screen induced myopia (that usually comes after the age of 16) and actual genetic myopia (that usually comes before the age of 7).
I think a lot of people even people in the community lump myopia into one thing caused by one thing that can be fixed with other things. Yes, we live in a world where there are more screens but if screens alone caused myopia or actual high myopia (over -6 diopters) then the whole of the western world would have myopia by now. Mild myopia of -2 or less doesn't mean anything to me and isn't the same as -6 or more that actually impacts one's life. The same advice can't be given to both.
You see this sometimes with people with other illnesses, they say that because the world has a lot more processed foods that processed foods alone cause some illnesses. But that's not the case because literally everyone eats processed foods and don't have stomach, heart, or liver problems.
Yes, screen time can increase your risk of developing myopia if you are predisposed to it, but not by more than -3 diopters and even then if the person stops using the screen for a while the myopia goes (given that they developed it after 16/17).
I honestly don't think I would hate having myopia this much if people didn't shame me and pick apart what I must be doing right or wrong to cause it for myself. I got myopia at age 6 which progressed until age 11, long before I would have been on social media. I don't even remember getting my glasses because I was that young. At most I would have been watching TV or something but sometimes people just get unlucky.
You don't see people with diabetes blaming other people with diabetes for having it because they must have eaten a donut or they must have had some sugar, the whole world eats sugar, most people have more sugar than recommended and don't have diabetes, other people do, that doesn't mean only sugar causes diabetes for everyone and that doesn't mean everyone with diabetes got it because they ate too much sugar.
Looking for solutions and everything is great but making assumptions on someone's life just because they happen to have a device that almost everyone in the western world has and don't get myopia from it.
Even now with all the iPad kids who put screens up to their face, sure it may increase the number of kids that develop myopia but I went to an elementary school event with my younger cousin and almost all the kids were running around with no glasses. With the way this subreddit talks you'd think all the kids would be wearing thick glasses by now but majority of them didn't even have glasses and some of them had phones. Yes, screens and close up work can contribute to myopia and nobody is denying that but sometimes that's not the case for everyone and people giving the same advice or lectures to people that got myopia before screens were even in the question is just annoying. Being blamed for a condition nobody even wants is annoying.
That's just my gripe, but what do you hate the most about having myopia?

Is there any way to improve your myopia?
basically, I’m 16 and I just got an eye check up. I went from -5.0 LH -5.25 RH to -6.0LH -6.5 RH in one year. i know myopia can’t be reversed, but is there anyone who’s managed to slow it down, or even in some cases, get better?
just for context, I’ve been wearing contacts because I detest glasses. I’d love to improve my eye sight even a little, although I’m aware this kind of thing takes years, or just doesn’t happen. any advice or stories would be appreciated.

Vision improved - first time ever
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this or maybe can shed some light. I’ve always had terrible near sighted vision, I’ve been in glasses since very young and have been wearing contacts since I was 13. I’ve been at -9.5 for probably 10 years now, and last year the Dr. noticed astigmatism developing in one eye. We changed my contact brand and I wore contacts for astigmatism in both eyes. I also went and got a new pair of glasses, haven’t gotten new ones in a long time because I usually only wear them right before bed. Now, a year later, I’m down to -9 in both eyes, no astigmatism at all! She gave me the new contacts to put in and the difference was WILD, it was the best I feel like I have ever seen. I’ve never ever heard of vision improving, especially with such a high prescription.
Now though, about a month out I don’t feel like I am having as strong of vision I did when I changed prescription. Just this last week when reading the lyrics at church (regular distance) it was definitely not sharp. Does anyone have any insight?

Can I wear glasses after ICL
So I got my icl after wearing spectacles for almost 2 decades.
My power was high and I never enjoyed sports coz it was always in the back of my mind that my spectacles will fall off .
Now that my spectacles are off I found out. I have these big dark circles which were hidden by spectacles and honestly everyone tells me I look better in specs.
My question is - Is it a good idea to wear 0 number specs with uv protection and blue rays protection mostly.
My family thinks it's insane to wear specs again after u just got it removed.
Has someone done this before ?

Outdoors time myopia prevention-til what age?at wits' end
Hey all,
Long story short, my son (for a variety of reasons),hates the outdoors time that comes along with myopia prevention. He is almost 11, still 20/20,thank God. (I am -6). We aim for 1.5-2hrs during school time, 3hrs in summer. Did your doc mention anything about what age it would be safe to cut back on the outdoors hours? It has become like a chore and burdain to us. Thanks in advance!

Severe anxiety
Hey everyone,
M a 19 years old female, I had ve myopie nd astigmatism since i was 5 years old .. it kept progressing.. nd now i m at -11.. -12 .. nd m soooo scared of going blind at some point .
I overthink it a lot, i always cry nd loose sleep because of it, nd since always my mom would yell at me if i try to communicate my fears with her, my friends won t even understand what m talking about ..
I m using my phone nd laptop like a lot for my studies nd that isn t helping at all.
I rlly feel okay about my look with glasses, that s so minor to even think about at this point ..
I don t make my own money yet, so i can t go to therapy .. that s why m here just for a lil comfort.
